I wanted to thank posters for their valuable feedback and contribute my two cents to prospective buyers. The short version: I purchased an EXL+RES + mudflaps + wheel locks for 30,100 OTD (28860 price incl destination + 299 doc fee + 75 registration/license fee + 3% NC taxes) from Burlington Honda, in North Carolina. I highly recommend them.

Now the long version. I began my search by reading recent posts. I went to a dealer (Crown in Durham NC), test drove a vehicle and determined that I wanted the DVD entertainment system. Knowing a ballpark price range for EXL+RES, I asked the salesperson for a rock-bottom price. I got a ridiculous price and the line "bring me another offer and we'll match it". The script was right off from an Edmunds article, as I learned later.

Then I solicited internet bids from 10 dealers within 50 mi. of my house. I purposefully left out two dealers closest to me so that I could call them and negotiate (one was Crown). I received 7 replies within 36 hrs. Most quotes were in the 30,500 range OTD. I pressed one dealer for a better price and got to 30,300.

I then called one of the two dealers and the salesperson said, after consulting with management (of course), that they could beat it by a couple hundred dollars. Two hundred, I said? Yes, two hundred. Big mistake by me: always get a price instead of the discount, and get it in writing if possible. With this "price," I called Crown and replied via email to several other dealers. Crown was not able to walk the talk and after some laughable apologies and made-up reasons said they could not match it. Other dealers that gave me quotes were straight up and said they could not match the quote in hand. A couple dealers matched that price but nobody was willing to beat it. It was time to settle for a price and add in some frills (mudguards, etc).

I called the dealer that had given me the quote on the phone to suggest that they add the frills, and suprisingly their quote had increased by $100. They claimed the original quote had been a miscommunication between the manager and the sales person. After some haggling they did go down to the original price. The next day I called early in the AM to seal the deal. To my surprise the sales person was off that day. The owner balked at the deal and the sales manager could not remember the conversation with his salesperson (!!!). So I simply never called them back and went to my second best dealer (Burlington). Burlington was second because they had an Ody in a slightly less preferred color but the price was the same.

The internet salesperson at Burlington (the sales manager --good indication) was straightforward and played no games. The price I was quoted OTD was the price I got. It was a real pleasure bringing my business to them. They were professional and corteous. No wonder they are a President's Circle dealer (apparently this DOES mean something). In retrospect, I think I could have negotiated the price down to 29,900 or so by playing one dealer against the other one more time. I wasn't willing to do that, so I settled for the price reported above. All in all, a positive experience. I highly recommend using the internet for pricing and negotiation. It takes away the dreaded and slimy "I will talk to my manager" and the time you spend sitting like a lame duck playing games in a cubicle at a dealership. A few hours of emailing got me a decent deal.

My suggestion is to email dealers first (off honda website), requesting exactly what you want and get quotes. A good deal appears to be at aboud 26,500-26,700 for an EXL INCLUDING Destination cost, just add TTL. Some dealers will look at you like your from another planet with such prices, so I wouldnt waste your time heading in with research. blast 15 email quote requests out, sit back and see who's serious about selling a car. narrow it down to the best 3, then hit them once more for best/final, letting them know what you have offered. (thats really condensed version but what it boils down too).

walking into the dealer with research is like to add to a lengthy/frustrating experience, perhaps one where you let down your guard and pay too much just to be done with the process. The emailing process is painless, avoids frustration and keeps you out of their turf, where with research or not, they are in control. (their experts in moving cars at top dollar!)

Note your apprehension "26/27k is amazing to me!" Any guy selling cars will read right into that and will be helping you to understand why that "is" too good to be true, and next thing you know your paying 28 or 29. which is too much.

Get email quotes, narrow down exactly what you want and price. Go into the dealer and drive the EXACT car you will buy. Making sure no squeeks, etc. Buy the car for the exact pre negotiated price. Anything less and its highly likely that you will walk out with the short end of the stick.

    Good Luck.

Received quotes for an EXL with Nav & RES between 31,300 -33,700. Some of the NORCAL dealers indicated that these prices are good until May 29.

Is the 27k quote that you received from Dublin Honda for an EXL w/o Nav & RES?

I'd be interested in this as well. Looking for splash guards, cross rail for the luggage rack, floor mats and possibly a trailer hitch.

    Please post anything you find....

Did you end up finding any great deals? On this board it seems to be mostly EXL quotes. I am looking to buy an EX in Phoenix, I went straight to the fleet dept and was quoted about 26500 + TTL, this included some things like tint, mud flaps, etc. Total would be about 28700 or so OTD.
They said invoice price was 27735, MSRP was 30290. We felt that this was a great dealership and great pricce, but now I am beginning to wonder based on things posted here.

If anyone out there has a EX price point to compare or any other info on the EX and not EXL I would appreciate it!! :)

Purchased EX (cloth) today at Right Honda for $25,200 plus $368 Doc Fee . Total = $25,568 plus T,T,L. Included in the deal was a cargo tray and splash guards.

Which dealership did you buy from?
  • tiger275tiger275 Member Posts: 2
This is probably an obscure question that no one will be able to answer but I thought it was worth a try.

I would like to buy an EXL RES/NAV or Touring RES/NAV in the coming days but I am in the process of moving from DFW area to TN. Should I buy first or after the move? is there a significant difference in price, TT&L, etc? Miles are not a problem because I would trailer to TN if I bought it in DFW.

I need to by an extended warranty within the next few days on my Honda Odyssey. Please email me if you know of any good deals or places to buy from.

    Thanks in advance!

Hi that sounds like a great price, about $1000 less than we were quoted. Did you have any other options included? What was total after TTL?
Is there someone at Right you would suggest seeing? We went there 2 days ago and had a horrible experience, most of the fleet looked bad and had lots of dead batteries! Thanks :)

Researched online and got the Honda Care for 6 years/120,000 miles $100 deductible in MA for $860.

Funny I went to the website and could only show a price of $1,130.00 for Honda Care 120k W/ 100 DED.
Did you call and barter this price down?

Thanks for posting this. Not much info on straight EX purchases, so your numbers are what i am going to use to make my deal in SLC. :)

Let us know what you end up getting in SLC. I emailed 6 dealers in Phx and am getting pretty similar pricing upon first response. I've only heard back from 4 and one was very high and rude. The others are around 25800 or so, so still a little more than what was quoted here. I do have a trade that I know will be hard to negotiate.

We will likely buy this week if we can put everything together.

The answer hinges on market conditions and tax rates in two different locales. You just need to do a bit of research. You know your current tax rate - just determine what it is where you're going.

Email dealers in both places for price quotes. IIRC reported DFW prices have been pretty good. Sorry, don't recall any recent numbers from Knoxville.

Purchased a Silver Pearl Touring RES w/ NAV on 5/27/07 from Capitol Honda (SJ, CA), with not additional accessories. Pricing as follows:
    Price: $34,995.00
    Docs: $ 55.00
    Sales Tax: $ 2,891.63
    License: $ 227.00
    Reg/Title: $ 64.00
    CA Tire: $ 8.75
    OTD Total: $38,241.38
    I got also the 2.9% 36-mo financing.
I got a quote via e-mail on 5/26 from same dealer, about $1k higher than above. Then I got a quote from another dealer through Costco, which was $300 higher than the above. Headed to Capitol Honda and negotiated for 30 mins, and got the above pricing. However, it took another 3 hs after agreeing on pricing to leave with the Ody. I assume the delay was due to the high customer traffic they had on that day. Besides the long wait, everything proved to be a good car buying experience and I am happy with the pricing I got. I would recommend this dealer.

Brand new 2007 EXL's are going around 26,300-26,700. You can also get 2.9 APR for 36 months or 4.9 for 60mos with decent credit. For the 2006 with 14,000 miles on it, would you be financing it? If so, be sure to factor in that rate vs. what you could get if you went new. (used rates are going to be higher than available honda APR). Financing aside, assume you get the vehicle for 23K vs say 26,700. Is the $3700 savings for a used vehicle with 14,000 on it a better value for you, vs. paying $3700 more for brand new, pick the color, etc? If your financing, used rates will probably be higher than may Honda APRs, so the gap is probably more like $3000 to 3200 saved. There's no right or wrong answer, you need to determine whats right for you. Personally, I'd either try to get it for less than 23K or buy new, but thats just me. Honda APRs are good through May 31st. Hard to beleive they'll go up in June, but who knows. Good Luck

What should I expect to pay for fees in NJ in addition to the 7% sales tax and $595 destination fee tha I was quoted? What should the DMV fee be? And what is the document fee (quoted at $298)? Is this real or just padding?
    Thanks

    Guys.
I'm here to let you know that I leased a 2007 Odissey a month ago and it is deffective. American Honda won't do anything about it, I'm renting a car in the meanwhile and I'm having to take judicial action.
I don't wish it on anyone.
It was leased on Coral Springs Auto Mall, in Coral Springs, FL.
I wish I came across a post like this when I was researching about this car in this same messafe boards.
Oh well...hope you guys don't commit the same mistake.

OK, I'll keep you posted... I am starting to email for quotes now. I went to one dealership today, and they gave me their standard internet price of $26745. We'll see how low they go from there... I might need to fly down to Phoenix to get your price! I am looking for an EX in Silver Pearl Metallic, so let me know if you see one! Also trying to figure out if this Century Protection is worth it; we have a lot of road salt here. Stay tuned.
  • ajdbajdb Member Posts: 8
What's wrong with it? I do wish they were building these in Japan, as I would trust the quality more.
  • avasmomavasmom Member Posts: 7
just be persistant...it is month end and soon the 08s will be hitting. They have a lot of inventory here from what I've seen online...one dealership has over 90, mostly EXL's though. With the Phx summer, leather would be awful for us I think.
It seems like people here are getting EXL pricing not much more than what I see for an EX. I'm still trying to talk down, my lowest is about $1000 less than you have gotten. They have plenty of silver pearl metallic I think. I'll keep you posted if we get any great deals!

Any other EX owners or soon-to-be owners have price points they got?

Purchased an 07 Slate Green EX this past Sat. Paid $25,800. Kind of thinking now that I might have done a little better, but kind of late at this point. Oh well. By the way, I live and purchased the vehicle in metro Atlanta.

    Good luck.
  • eagleman1990eagleman1990 Member Posts: 6
Sounds like a good deal to me. I just paid $25,800 + $495 for a "document fee".

    Hi All-

Thanks for all the posts, great help for me. And thanks Mr. Donkey for you of your help as well! :)

Did all bids on line, within 24 hrs. had negotiated price and next morning picked up van. Lowest prices came from Chicago area, Carr, Ohare and McGrath- which had the lowest at 28,250 in every color. No one in Indy would even talk to me about going lower than 30. I got one guy to price match in Cincy at Superior-- Midnight blue, no extras, barely got anything for my 10 yo jeep GC Laredo trade in. They were actually great to work with. Jeff Wyler wouldn't consider going lower than 28,8. We did not finance through Honda.

So 28,250 sale price in Ohio. We will do everything else, TTL here in Indy. Also found a guy on ebay for all weather mats, cargo tray and flaps.

All in all, I feel like we paid a good price, probably could have gotten better if our time frame had been longer, but for 24 hrs. work, I think it was great.
  • gavanmomgavanmom Member Posts: 32
Sounds like a good deal too! We just bought a 07 Slate Green in Roswell, Georgia yesterday for $25322...before ttl (7% ouch!)and had them include installing the back up sensors. We drove 2 hours to do the deal because no other dealer...north or south of us could touch it since we had to have the back up sensors and that adds $850 plus 3 hours labor. We've been looking for over 6 months and activly searching...going dealer to dealer since Saturday. Ours had the interior we wanted, pin stripe, splash guards and all that typical dealer add in stuff. We probably could have pushed more, but when two other dealers that are reputable said "take it, we can't touch it" we did.

I live in NY and purchased in NJ. If I remember correctly, MV fee is around $350 and Doc Fee is $189. MV fee should be the same for all dealers for NJ plates. Doc fee will vary from dealer to dealer. At DCH paramus, doc fee is $199. Good luck.
  • avasmomavasmom Member Posts: 7
Wow! You got a great deal with all those extras! Don't feel bad about 7%....TTL in Phx is 11%!! Yikes!
  • bigsexcgbigsexcg Member Posts: 7
I've received 3 offers in the Dallas area for a 2007 Odyssey EX-L with rear entertainment & navigation for $31,583 (incl destination) plus TTL. Does this sound like a good deal?

They also had about $1k in dealer add-ons (pins trips, moonroof visor, mud guards, cargo mat & environmental protection package) that I'm looking to have thrown in but they have been pushing back on including these items in the deal.

Since this is about the invoice price I'm sure Honda's throwing money into the deal. Any word on whether there is more than the $750 OEM to dealer cash? Or how far below invoice have others gotten?
  • rchetrchet Member Posts: 2
Where in Dallas Texas did you find this deal?

Gavanmom, can you please tell me the dealer name, I am from Roswell GA & planning to buy EX-L this week.Does your price $25322 includes backup sensor price. Please let me know soon to help me make my decision. Thx in advance

I am a recent mom for 2 kids, planning to buy EX-L within a month, please advice me on the price, I live in Atlanta GA, looking to buy EX-L, any add ons is optional. What are the must/better to have add ons. Please respond at the earliest. Thx in advance
  • pekopeko Member Posts: 15
I can tell you that the lowest price I was quoted in NJ is $27,495 which includes destination fee of $595. This is for EX-L with NO RES and NO NAV. Good luck!
  • sassyaztecsassyaztec Member Posts: 6
Try ebay. I got a package deal.... splash guards, cargo tray, and all weather mats for 340 (includes shipping and tax). The guy I used was in Indy and so am I so I had to pay 6% sales tax, but it was still cheaper than most of the other places I found online.
  • bigsexcgbigsexcg Member Posts: 7
Lute Riley, McDavid,& Bankston. If you submit a lead online, they'll get back to you fairly quickly.
  • avasmomavasmom Member Posts: 7
We bought the EX today and got out the door at 25100, that included our trade in, which was about 3000 I believe. What a long process. I definately would recommend internet buying as the way to go. You still have to haggle but don't get trapped at the dealership as long!
  • ajdbajdb Member Posts: 8
What was your base price (since my TTL will be different)? What color did you get?

1st day of haggling over the phone has produced a price of 26,500.

I see that a copule of people in Georgia got theirs for below 26K, so I'm gonna keep hagglin'...
  • eagleman1990eagleman1990 Member Posts: 6
    ajdb,

I suggest that you shoot for no more than 25,500 for the EX. I paid 25,800 for mine, but after reading this and other forums I see where many buyers are getting their EX's in the low 25k's. Mine is Slate Green and has no extra's other than the mud flaps and cargo tray (which the dealer had listed on the sticker for $990!!!!).

    Good Luck!
  • odysseyfan1odysseyfan1 Member Posts: 33
Correct, low 25K is the price you should be bargaining for, here in NC, I was able to get 25,400 for EX.

Also dont get into the trap for paying outrageous prices for these accessories caz even on honda website or later from these dealers, you can find them quite cheap at normal msrp prices. But best bet would be to buy these accs. from online stores selling honda accessories for almost 30~40% less msrp prices.

I talked to lute riley salesman yesterday. He quoted me 32,800 out the door. This includes TT&L and Destination fees. Is this a goog deal?
  • buyminivanbuyminivan Member Posts: 1
How much you paid for that?
  • bigsexcgbigsexcg Member Posts: 7
Including TTL that sounds pretty good. Was it on an EXL RES,NAV? Did it include any dealer options (i.e., pinstrip, cargo mats, moonroof visor, wheel locks, tint)?

The deal I'm considering there has all of those items, but was at $31,783 plus TTL, which by my estimates is about $33,970.
  • gavanmomgavanmom Member Posts: 32
It was Honda Carland in Roswell. Super nice and very fast. The price did include the back up sensors. I wouldn't buy one with out them. We also looked at Gwinnett Honda and Honda at Mall of Georgia. They were close to the price, we walked out of both dealers on Sunday without reaching the final price I was set on. They both called on Monday to try and get the deal, but we had already agreed tot he price with Honda Carland. I know Gwinnett and Mall of Georgia Honda had tons of EXLs on the lot....so they might deal good on those. I didn't want leather so the EX was perfect for us. Good luck!
