BTW, the local dealer omition is just my personal preference. Get the best price then give them an opportunity to match or beat it. You'll likely find that they tell you to run to the other dealer to purchase the car (suggesting that they don't beleive the price or simply can't get there). If that's the case, I'd go to the other dealer. Also, when you request the match/beat from local, make sure you request the bottom line price via the internet quote request. Let them reply with their best price then call or email them back saying you've shopped other and have a price of "x", can you beat it, I'll come in to buy. If they say yes, get them to put it in writing, confirming that destination is included, they don't have extras on the car, they have your color, etc. You can't be too neurotic about the 1qualification as most of them will pull "oh destination is extra" or all our cars have these add ons--that weren't in your initial quote. Being overly cautious about the qualification will save you time and headaches of walkking in and wasting your time. If you walk-in, you don't have a chance because the sales folks working the walk-ins are on different commisssion schedule and they can't go as low as the internet dept in 95% of the cases.

I am getting close to a deal and wanted to make sure that when I go get the car the dealer does not cheat me on anything else.

I am getting a 2007 EX-L with R&N with no other accessories or options. Does that mean that I should get absolutely nothing else (mats, wheel lock, shopping net, etc.)?

In other words, what are some things that should be included and the dealer might just "forget" to include? Is there a link that has some kind of list where I can verify that I've gotten all that I should?
  • donkeypunch1donkeypunch1 Member Posts: 119
Should still get cloth mats in first few rows, 2 electric key fob openers and 2 wireless headsets. No wheel locks, splash guards (mud flaps), shopping net, etc.

have you still got the 2.9% special? Hope i am not too greedy.

Here's the numbers on the 2008 Touring:

    MSRP: $40,645 (including destination)
    Invoice: $36,849
    Holdback: $1166

    Net cost to dealer: $35,683

I constructed a spreadsheet trading off purchase vs. lease. I assumed that instead of making a capital reduction on the lease you were going to invest that money. Obviously, investing it instead of making a capital reduction only makes sense if you think you can earn more via the investment than you'll pay in interest. That being said, what I came up with is that generally if you plan to keep the vehicle three years you're better off leasing. If you plan to keep it four years, it is a wash, both methods cost about the same. If you plan on keeping it five years, or longer, buying it is a better deal. My assumptions for the purchase included the cost of an extended warranty if you went longer than the factory warranty.

Honda has a new lease program in place for the 2008 Odyssey. They are offering a money factor of 0.00228 for a 36 month lease. You can use their lease calculator (http://www.hondafinancialservices.com/planning/frm_forward_calc.asp) to calculate your payments. The calculator always fills in the MSRP, but if you enter the amount you expect to capitalize it will give you the correct monthly payment for the 2008 Odyssey special lease program.

Anyone out there in the Ohio area recently purchase a 2007 Touring w/ NAVI & RES?

I am being quoted = $33,595 OTD + tax, title and license.

From what I can find on this forum, that seems to be about the right number, any thoughts? I see quite a few deals on this forum for the EL-X NAVI & RES, subtracting the difference in the invoice prices, it seems to be in the right range.

I'm going to try the donkeypunch1 methond on Thursday, which really will be the confimation, I hope!

    OK, so here's my situation:
I'm a married mother of one 2-year-old, who plans to have another baby next year. Right now I'm driving an 8-year-old, super-dependable Acura (Honda) TL, which I've owned since it was new and had no problems. (Notably this is my fourth Honda car.)

Since we're planning to have another baby, we think we will want a minivan in the next year and everyone I know is HIGH on the Odyssey.

So... following the famous donkey method, I've contacted some dealers near me (Northern VA/DC metro area).

My best offer so far is:
EXL for $26,507 OTD (includes VA taxes)
    EXL with RES for $27,996.

These seem like pretty good prices in line with what I've seen here, maybe $150 more than the best price I've seen from a person posting from my area.

    But here's the dilemma:
My husband thinks we should wait until mid-2008, and THEN buy a 2008 when the 2009s come out.

When I mentioned this in an email to the dealer with the best price, he said, "we wouldn't be close to doing this deal on a 2008 until the end of 2009 -- this is a closeout 2007 sale, because the 2008 Ody model was a "model refresh" -- so there won't be deals like this again for almost 2 more years!"

Is this BS, or should I try to convince my husband that since we have the money to do it now, there's no reason to wait until 2008?? :confuse:

And what do you guys think of these prices?
Any advice would be MOST appreciated!
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
You should be able to do $1000 better.

And they will hit you with a $250 doc fee.
  • enp14enp14 Member Posts: 16
That's funny. We also purchased an EX-L w/ Res and Nav. on Saturday from DCH. We had agreed over the phone to $31,900 but after Honda added the add'l $500 I took Donkey's advice and got them to $31, 500! We are happy w/ the price and love the mini-van. What color did you get?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Of course the dealer will say that - he wants to sell you a vehicle.

The plain fact is that there's no telling what future prices will be like.

However, there is an old saying about a bird in hand....
  • richiehrichieh Member Posts: 17
    Thanks for the Reply!

You're right about the document fee, I verified in writing that the price they gave me did not include the document fee, but did include destination, so the actual number from the dealer is $33,345, I added the document fee.

Oh, and no dealer installed options.

So..............you think I can do about $750 better?
The email barage begins on Wednesday.

I bought from Brookdale Honda. I also had quotes from Buerkle, Richfield, Hopkins, St. Cloud and another, but Brookdale was about $700 lower than any others.

Buying experience was great also, although selection is getting thin.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
I think your target should be no more than 32.5 plus the doc fee.

Don't know what part of the state you're in but competition is pretty good in Columbus anymore. Would recommend Hugh White except that when I was there having mine serviced a week ago they only had one Touring R&N left (IIRC, it was silver/black). They had probably a half dozen regular Tourings though - if you can do without the nav, I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't buy one for about 30.
  • austinsfsaustinsfs Member Posts: 9
Thanks for the feedback re: dealer saying that. I just wanted to see if the group thought the dealer knew something I didn't re: 2008s. :)

I've got new car fever, and would love to have a new Ody by the end of 2007. My husband is still arguing that most likely car and real estate prices will only go down over the next 12-24 months, so what's the rush -- he'd like to see us buy in June/July of next year (notably when there may not yet be sales).

Anyone else debating whether to buy this year-end or wait? :confuse:

Is there anything special about the 2008 EXL? (I can't find much difference.)
  • austinsfsaustinsfs Member Posts: 9
Just read on Kelly Blue Book that the customer incentive (low finance rate) on the 2007 ODY is ending 11/30/07 -- does anyone know if this means the dealer incentive will also end at that time? Or does it go until they run out?
  • elam42elam42 Member Posts: 6
Just picked up a '07 EXL RES for $27,389(including dest.) from Leith in Raleigh. $28,500 OTD.

Not the lowest price on this board, but they offered me $1300 more for my trade in than Carmax.
  • mursilismursilis Member Posts: 20
    Austinsfs:
Which dealership quoted you the best price on the EX-L with RES? Thanks.
  • donkeypunch1donkeypunch1 Member Posts: 119
As cccomp notes, summer of 08 is anyone's guess. If I was betting, I'd say you'll see financing deals but you won't see the $2500 cash to dealer marketing incentive that's available today--not at least until year end 08. The invoice/list on the 08's also increased, so even if the $2500 incentive was available, its highly unlikely you'll see an 08 EXL as low as you can pick up an 07 EXL today. However, resale on the 08 would probably be about 2K more than an 07 for same model with roughly equivalent miles. Though, if you keep the van as long as the acura that delta eventually fades away.

Honda will feel the economy just like everyone else, but there's generally a floor on an Odyssey, unlike a 5 bed 3.5 bath in Texas.

If price is the ultimate factor, nows probably as good of time as any. If waitings the thing to do, waiting until summer will probably be better than January. I'd agree with the dealer that you won't see prices anywhere near todays on an 08 in Jan/spring.

Probably the quickest way to get results is to tell your husband he's right and that you should keep saving. After the 4th child in 2011, you'll have enough for a year end Escalade with spinners. Factoring in depreciation, it'll be good you bought it outright, otherwise you'd be upside down :P j/k.
  • donkeypunch1donkeypunch1 Member Posts: 119
Elam, remember that the lowest prices on the board are usually b.s. deals the omit the fact that they got hammered on the trade or a lousy finance rate. Factor in that 90% of the people in the market for an odyssey don't realize that current market is well below MSRP, let alone the $2500 marketing incentive and your in the elite buyers group. Enjoy the new ride!
  • ckennedyckennedy Member Posts: 82
Donkey, I am back. Only 2 dealers out of about 8 responded with numbers. I went there and I will leave out the slick salesman pitch but quoted $24,074 and $26,200 respectively. The other dealer simply said he could not compete with those numbers. I then went to my local dealer in NY and he quoted $23,750 & $25,750 respectively. The only thing extra would be TT&L. Is the bottom near I know colors are limited but really secondary for me price matters most. My trade ins he said to sell privately i would do better and finance he told me to go else where.
Don't want to get to greety but is this a good price? Dealer thinks these will be all gone in 2 weeks.
  • austinsfsaustinsfs Member Posts: 9
Donkeypunch: Dude, you're hilarious. That last bit about saving for an Escalade after baby #4 had me rolling.

Anyway, thanks for all the advice. I think when my sister shows up with her new Odyssey at Thanksgiving, that might make my case more than anything -- the ease alone of getting kids in and out will be a major improvement over my Acura (which I love -- and we affectionately call "Bunny").

    But I think it's bye-bye Bunny, hello soon-to-be-named Odyssey...I hope.

And for the person who asked which dealership gave me my best price, I'd rather not do the "reveal" on that until it's a done deal. But I suggest contacting all dealerships in Northern VA/Metro DC/Maryland area with the donkey method (email all dealerships asking for the same model quotes, give them no phone number/DO NOT respond to their pleas that you call them, you want their OTD price including destination, taxes, all fees, nothing else to be charged, and you can move quickly -- don't share whether you have a trade in or need financing, mention you know about the dealer incentive), and you'll see where I got lowest.

    Happy hunting!
  • mursilismursilis Member Posts: 20
Austinsfs, we're in the NoVa area as well, and have solicited quotes from about 10 dealers. Our best was $28K from Hersons in MD for an EX-L with RES, but we'd prefer something closer. Can you send me the dealership to e-mail? I'd appreciate it very much. E-mail is Mursilis at gmail.com. Thanks very much, and good luck.
  • donkeypunch1donkeypunch1 Member Posts: 119
Shrek, (if I'm donkey?) Where are you, NYC? I can't believe only 2 of 8 produced numbers, but stranger things have happened. (like when Pinnochio showed up in Shrek 2). If your not on the island, expand your search to within a 2 hour drive and kick a few more tires via internet quote requests. A two hour drive would be better than spending your day listening to some sob spiel about inventory depletion, how crappy your trade is and that your better off getting finanancing from someone in the waste management business. Did you go in there with your title in hand and a 420 credit score on your forehead? Just kidding. Expand your search a little and relax. There's probably 30 dealers within a 2 hour drive of you and their not going to tell you to go outside for financing unless your asking for 1.9 or have a 320 credit score. Get financing online first. capitalone dot com (through costco if your member) or your credit union, whatever. Get a carmax quote for your trade. Expand your internet quote request search and see what you get in the next few days. I'd say 25,250 might be the floor in your area incl. destination, add TTL. Maybe I'm wet behind the ears, but the only way to tell is to get more quotes. Send another request to the clowns that gave you the "come in routine" and tell them you have $25,500 including destination, can they beat it. If you get 6 responses telling you to run for that deal because they aren't close, then you know your doing ok with your price. If you have folksmeeting it or beating it (slim, but never know), then you have more options. Personally for 25,700 or whatever it is that you stated, I'd want my color preference or would keep looking. Get a carmax quote though and your financing so you know what your in for. If your credit is good, you should be able to get better financing from honda by telling them you have 5.5 from capital one or whatever, but you better have the blank check in hand or it means nothing. The price isn't bad, but should get your color, and at least carmax value for your trade. You dont want to screw around with dumping it private party, it'll be annoying unless it's 10 years old, high miles and you can get a quick 1500 cash.

Also, when you went into these dealers (waste of time rule number 4, or 3) did you talk to the internet guys? Talking to Joe, who's itching for the next guy to walk in the door, isnt going to produce the lowest number.
  • donkeypunch1donkeypunch1 Member Posts: 119
When you get your bottom line quote, you can always email it to the other guys (remove sales guys name out of courtesy) and drop the number by 2 or 3 hundred bucks. "I have this quote for "x" (drop the number a few hundred) and wanted to know if you can compete". If you can beat it and have color preference I'll come in tomorrow to buy the car". (again, qualify destination, extras, have financing, carmax report for trade) etc.

Whats the difference if you get someone elses quote or fabricate your "desired" number. Some call it dishonest, I call it negotiation because they can always tell you where to go. If they get there though, and don't play games, I'd show up, drive and buy the car from them. Of course after trying to save 1/2 a point by telling them that you have 5.5% on super cosco preferred member rate. If you have good credit they should beat it. If your credit is lousy, don't bother.
  • donkeypunch1donkeypunch1 Member Posts: 119
I'm sensing a little pumkin pie for the whole family in your sisters Odyssey unless your brother inlaw pulls the Chevy Chase lampoons vacation "ah ah, new car" just before one of the kids dumps their plate in the 3rd row. Donkey would be a good name for the new ride. LOL j/k.
  • rmossrmoss Member Posts: 23
    Hi all,

We are in the market for a minivan, Odyssey seems to have more favorable reviews compared to the Sienna.

I read through some of the posts here. If we are going to buy a 2007 model, how do we go about requesting quotes from dealers? The online quotes (following donkeypunch1 approach) seem to be for 2008 models only.

Can anyone breakdown the 2007 EX-L price, where do I find invoice pricing for options? What is the dealer holdback? I understand the cash incentive is 2500$ now and there is a 2.9% financing incentive as well. If anyone can give me an idea of a target price to shoot for, that will be really nice.

Thank you all and have a wonderful thanksgiving!
    Randy
  • donkeypunch1donkeypunch1 Member Posts: 119
Randy, method noted applies to 07s or 08s. When you use the request button, it only gives 08 as an option. Select that and note in your request text that your looking for an 07 EXL quote. Invoice (including destination) is 28,794. At a bare minimum your target is $3k Under that. (taking the $2500 into account). You can't get the $2500 and the 2.9/4.9 financing, it's either or. Get your own financing and then get them to match. Should be able to get 5.4 or better from honda with good credit. There are no other options on the car other than stuff like wheel locks, splash guards and stuff like that. Locks are about $55, splash guards $75, (look at Bernardi honda parts online).

Another good tactic is to visit credit union websites and find the best possible rates--even if you're not a member. Tell them you've already been approved at the best rate you find and offer them the url as verification that the rate is available.

BTW, 5.5% is a decent rate, but my Honda dealer gave me 5.24% after I told him my credit union offered 5.25%. There's still cheap money out there--you just have to find it.
  • ckennedyckennedy Member Posts: 82
Yeah I am on the Island. I will look to sure up my financing and as far as the trade ins both are 10 years old one with high mileage and the other with some mechancial problems so probably would do better privately. I want to see how much I can charge (for the points).
  • donkeypunch1donkeypunch1 Member Posts: 119
kennedy, check out craigslist dot com for your area and figure out the going rates for your 2 cars. List them on there at a reasonable price, note that you require cash only, clean titles in hand, etc. Your going to find that to be the quickest, painless for cars of that vintage. I've got a 10 year old nissan sitting in the driveway. Waiting on a duplicate title and will unload it the same way. There's tire kickers looking for something for nothing, so be sure to be firm on cash deal, serious only, and go in with a fair price for quick sale and note that price is firm.

For financing, like vinny notes, credit union-- wherever you can get a good rate and then bring that check to the dealer and tell them you have 5.25 or whatever. Your credit will need to be good to pull it off.

The quote you have isn't terrible, but would think you can do a bit better. If that have your color call the guy and tell him you can do 25,400 incl. destination and see what he says. I wouldn't kill yourself to save another $300, but I wouldn't take your last color choice at your current quote.

Dont waste your time going back in to that place or another until you get your deal done with written confirmation.

    Hi,
I am looking for 2007 EX-L in tristates. So far, the best quote I got was:
    Internet Special Price:$24,955
    Freight: 635
    Processing Fee: 100
    VA Tax 3%: 770.70
    VA Tags: 98.50
Overall Total: 26,559.20 ---OTD. Is this the good price? I got this from Hersons Honda. But, they don't have the color I am looking for - Nimbus Gray. I am thinking of Slate Green or Ocean mist.

    Thank you.

    2007 ODYSSEY $6295 OFF MSRP
On the Odyssey take MSRP (total vehicle price) subtract $6295 add taxes, tags, freight $635, and processing fee.

Wonder if this is the good deal, i can get it in VA itself, instead of go to rockville. What do you guys think about this?

We're still looking as well - we're in Prince William County, Va. We want an EX-L with the RES - have to have it for the kids. We take long trips sometimes and it's a must to keep them happy. If someone wants to arrange a group purchase, we could possibly go in on that.

I cannot decide between the 2 and don't know if the touring is worth the extra cash. I am in the NOVA/DC/MD area as well, and I have a quote for the exl with RES/NAV
    of:
    $28974 internet price
    $635 destination
    $99 proc fee

This does not include any options either. I already have my financing lined up for 3.5% for 60 months (WOOHOO!!) This does not include any trade or anything either. We will also be registering in Oregon, so we do not have sales tax, or anything. only $30 plate transfer fee. What price should I look for on the 07 touring?I would appreciate any help!!!!!!!
  • ivfmommeeivfmommee Member Posts: 15
I forgot to add that I am trading in my 06 EXL with RES because we are kicking ourselves for not getting the NAV now. I guess I could sell it outright, but I don't really want to mess with it. Anyone that wants a great deal on a 2006 let me know! LOL!

Just a thought for those looking for an exl-res. We recently bought an exl no res for 25800. The exl-res would have cost us 27200, so we opted for the exl for 25800. The kids really wanted the dvd player but for 1400 price difference I could not justify it. Well, at Target this week they have a two screen portable dvd player on sale for 199.00 so we bought that for the kids for Christmas present. It has two screens that can hang on the back of the seats and you can watch one movie on both screens or two different movies on each screen. So if the better deal is on the exl instead of the exl-res you may want to consider something like we did.

Just to let everyone know what we got our Odyssey for.
Just Purchased a 2007 Odyssey with Res and Nav. 31300 OTD.
Probably could have gotten a little better deal but this was the only one we found that was the color we wanted inside and out that wasn't too far away.
