is is true that it is easier to get lower price at the end of quarter than at the end of month?

    thanks.

    Hi,
We were looking at the 2007 EX-L with RES and NAV, all because my wife wanted the rearview camera. Now 2008 solved that issue by having it standard on the 2008 EX-L.
Guess its gonna save me 2000-3000.

What is the best OTD price anyone has received on a 2008 EX-L in the Chicago area ?
    Thanks

Folks, I am looking for a 2007 EXL with RES and NAV in NJ; what should be the best price I should be looking for? I have a quote of $28,250; is this good, or should it be lower? Thanks

Can you share the dealership name you dealt with? Our windstar is dying and we need a Odyessey fast. We are on the Island.

Sounds like a good deal. I just got mine in Los Angeles this weekend for $29,400 with wheel locks and mud guards thrown in; plus tt&l. $29,400 is $3,100 below invoice. Got 5.99% financing from Honda. Love the car and all of its features. Bought silver, which comes with the gray interior. Not crazy about the interior color, but getting used to it. With two little ones, it may be low maintenance.

Thank you guys! I went ahead and offered 250 for just the Backup sensors, Mudguards and All season floor mats.

Can you tell us which dealership you got such a good deal with? $29,400

    Thanks,

    All,

After two days of concentrated emailing and negotiating (trying to beat the lapse of the $2500 incentive for 2007s), I bought an EX-L today.

I first tried Autobytel, CarsDirect and Costco, before I discovered this forum and learned Donkey Punch Fu. Using DP Fu, I emailed 15 dealerships in a 60-mile radius, plus one about 95 miles away because I saw a post here that said the latter was offering an incredible price below $25,000 for an EX-L (that dealer made no such offer to me). Autobytel, CarsDirect and Costco could not touch the offers I got using DP Fu.

Using DP Fu, I narrowed my search down to two dealers nearest my home. I could have gone with either and been satisfied, but I did prefer dealer 1 over dealer 2 because they were closer and I had prior good experience with their service dept. I got an OTD offer from dealer 2 that was among the best I received. I then took that price to dealer 1 and negotiated on a bottom-line OTD basis. Dealer 1's only in-stock '07 EX-L in the color I wanted already had fog lights and a moonroof visor installed. Those were accessories I would have bought anyway, so it was OK. When I negotiated with dealer 1 on a bottom-line OTD basis, the accessories were not separately broken-out. On the paperwork, however, the dealer itemized it this way.

    EX-L: $25,564
    Fog Lights: $533
    Moonroof Visor: $169
    Tax: $1576
    Title, Regis & Tags: $68
    Processing & Misc Fees: $90

    Total OTD: $28,000

The prices for the accessories seems really high; but as I say, we didn't negotiate that way and the price allocation between vehicle and accessories appears arbitrary.

This may not be the best deal that can be had in the galaxy, but I am happy, especially considering what I might have settled for from Autobytel, CarsDirect or Costco if I hadn't discovered this forum and DP Fu.

Thanks to all, but especially Donkey Punch.

    GKC

The accessory prices seemed very high to me, but as I say, what I actually agreed to was the 28,000 bottom line, and the way the dealer allocated the breakdown seems arbitrary.

check estore.honda.com for accessory pricing from some of the dealers in your area.

Anything you are willing to install yourself, check online pricing at places like H and A accessories

now how would edmunds know what tax rate and dmv rate you will pay ? the prices on edmunds absolutley do not include tax and license fees.
  • enp14enp14 Member Posts: 16
where in NJ are you getting the $28,400? That sounds like a good price for this area. What is the OTD?
  • frankr3frankr3 Member Posts: 9
great sites. thanks for the info
  • rmossrmoss Member Posts: 23
When I first requested the quote, I didn't mention accessories (may be my bad!). The quotes I received were in the range of 25,650-26,285. But all the dealers want > 1000$ + tax for just the 3 accessories I want: parking sensors, mudguards, all weather mats. So there's a 700$ difference between my desired OTD and what the dealers are offering.

Should I start over and request quotes including accessories, essentially OTD? Does the 2500 rebate on the 2007 model end on 11/30?

Looking to buy (in the next 2 days) a 2007 EXL RES and was given the price of $28,740 as 2K under invoice. I asked about the 2,000 cash to dealer on Edmunds.com and the email reply was, this is the best deal we have. Inventory is going fast in the King County, WA area.
Question is, what do you mean by "broke down the msrp, invoice...etc...?????
    I hope you reply soon!

The whole process took about a week. After emailing several dealers, Buerkle Honda came through and found a black EXL for us (4-left in the state).

    EXL $25,771
    Fog Lights $492
    Doc Fee $50
    Tax (6.5%) $1,707
    License $442

    OTD $28,462

Upstate NY (Newburgh) however I live on Long Island. Does anyone know what tax rate applies and what may I expect to pay for tags? Looks like dealer based it on Long Island rate.

From what I've read here, the $2500 holdback incentive ends 11/30 (Friday). Does anyone know if it will be extended, or do people looking for a cheap Odyssey need to pull the trigger in the next two days?
  • jmarrinjmarrin Member Posts: 5
What dealer for the 08 EX? That's $2K under anything I've seen so far. Thanks.
  • mfletou1mfletou1 Member Posts: 508
My guess would be that it is going back to $2000 on December 1, so you may be leaving $500 on the table. However, that's just a guess, and nobody knows for sure.

In general, though, the best deal available is probably going to be in the next two days. Dealers will want to move vehicles before the end of the month, and to make things worse, there's no weekend before the end of the month.

Plus, there comes a point, I think, when there is diminishing returns on 2007s. Inventory dries up to the point where there are relatively few vehicles available. They'll still be cheaper than the 2008's, so they actually become somewhat in demand again and the price gets driven a little higher. I experienced this earlier this year when I was trying to get a 2007 Forester for my mom---I started too late (didn't know she wanted one) and there were so few left that I couldn't get much of a deal on it. Ended up not buying and we're now waiting for the 2008 prices to go down.

Looking at some of these fees you guys pay makes me glad I live in Virginia! Granted, we have to pay a "car tax" every year, so over time, I'm sure we probably make out worse in the deal. But our OTD is a 3% sales tax and I paid $51.00 to transfer my tags ($93 for new ones).
  • mursilismursilis Member Posts: 20
Thanks for your response. We're still trying to decide whether we want to upgrade our 2001 Windstar (decent van, but doesn't have a lot of the features of the Odyssey that we like) to a 2007 Odyssey. We've been trying to sell the Windstar privately, as dealers have been low-balling us on the trade-in (as to be expected), and it seems like we're coming up on a time crunch with the incentive.
We're in Virginia (NoVa) as well. You probably mentioned it already, but what Honda dealers in VA have you dealt with, and what ones would you recommend? Thanks again.

If you don't mind driving to the Portland area you can save some money. I just received a quote from the internet dept. at Beaverton Honda of $28,153 for a 2007 EX-L with RES. They have thirteen available. The quote included splash guards and roof rack cross bars. The document and temporary tag fee for a Washington resident totals $70.
I just bought their last 2007 EX-L for $26,499 with splash guards and the cross bars. The EX-L stock in the Portland area is shrinking but there seems to be plenty with DVD's. The $28,153 is $1654 more than I paid for the same car from the same dealer without the RES. You may be able to negotiate further on the price.

after a week of on and off emails and phone calls against the dealers around southern california, i couldn't wait until the end of the month to pull the trigger, total OTD price: $31299.99. ($28750+TTL), no dealer add-ons.
probably could have done a little better if i wait a couple of days, but worried about the color availability(Gray)...

thanks everybody in this forum for the valuable informations!

I don't know when the dealer incentive is ending. It will prolly show up on these boards eventually but maybe not in time to help. You could ask one or more of the Internet Managers. Some of them are very forth coming, and some wouldn't even admit there was a $2500 incentive. There is also car buying services like 'Auto Solution' (this is a seattle area one), who will email you current incentives. They use it for an opportunity to talk with you (I did it via email). I told them I was already negotiating with a couple dealerships, and they confirmed the dealer incentive. A service like that may know if it's about to change.

I also didn't have any luck with getting a deal on accessories, except for the ones that were already on the van. When I mention online pricing, they like to tell you it doesn't include install (when I think about paying an install fee on rubber floor mats, or a cargo tray bin, I don't know if I should laugh out loud or cry). Some hadn't heard of estore.honda.com (or at least pretended not too :) which allowed me to research the lowest dealership install prices in the area. It gave me some leverage, but ultimately they didn't budge on the accessory pricing. If you really want it installed at the dealership, then I think the best you can do is show your local dealership the estore.honda.com pricing (or you can also call the competitive service department and ask them how much it is to install the accessories you want), and stress to your local dealership that you want to remain a satisfied customer of theirs (your car maintenance is worth alot to them as well).

You have to be willing to walk out too. I have received call-backs/emails from dealerships I was negotiating with.

Hey, for all the Long Island readers out there, did you know that there is a $250 fee that you have to pay just becuase you are buying on Long Island? It is called something like a "Long Island Honda Dealer's Fee". Unbelievable. I sent out internet inquires yesterday morning saying I received an online quote from Open Road Honda in Jersey for an 07 XE-L for $25258. It did not include the $635 Destination or $349 Maintenance, but with that being said, the LI Dealer started at 26500 without the dest or maint fee. Is anyone in the downstate NY area doing better in prices? I have a feeling I am going to have to go to Jersey for an 07 if any are left.

Just bought 2007 EX-L (No RES, No Nav) $27,600. Free acc.==> All weather mats & Mud Flaps from Planet Honda, Union, NJ. I could have bargain little more but there is not much inventory left in Northern NJ. I like exterior, Interior, reasonable price in area and so pulled the trigger. If I would have wait 1 more week there would be hardly any EXL left. There are plenty 2007 EXL with RES and/or Nav though.

My husband is thinking of getting EX 07 Odyssey for $23,400 (base and destination). However the dealer said that odometer has 180 miles (due mainly to test driving). Is the mileage Ok?

    Thanks.

In Virginia, I thought the best dealer to deal with was Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge. STAY AWAY from either of the two Rosenthal dealers--Fairfax Honda and Landmark Honda

Also very unimpressed with Koon's Honda and Honda of Tysons Corner. Leesburg Honda treats people well but prices generally run higher.

You are MUCH better off buying your car in Maryland. A couple reasons why--#1, Maryland dealers are capped by law at a $100 dealer processing fee. In Virgnia, you'll pay at least $299--Hendrick charges $399. You can try negotatiating that, but its just something else to negotiate.

#2--it makes zero sense to me, but if you buy in VA, you pay a 3.17% tax rate. if you buy in MD but register in VA, you pay a 3% tax rate. Hey, $60 is $60.

Also---I just found the MD dealers more competitive in pricing--there are more of them, and they are closer together so they have to compete with each other.

I bought my Ody from an internet saleswoman at Herson's Honda in Rockville. I thought they were great to deal with--very straightforward. I did negotiate off the quote a bit on the phone, and got to the price I was comfortable with, and they honored it. As I reported, I bought a 2007 EX-L and paid $25294, INCLUDING freight, processing and accessories. I have yet to see anyone beat that deal. Of course, I have no idea if they'd do that deal again, and where they'll be if you contacted them today, but in general they are very aggressively pricing Ody's to move.

I would also recommend the internet department at College Park Honda. I had a good experience there, but they just couldn't match the price. I had a less favorable experience with Sport Honda--some have reported good dealings with them, nothing awful happened to me but I wasn't impressed and their online inventory was not accurate (Herson's does not list their inventory online, you have to call).

Anyway, I live in Loudoun County, and it took us about 40 mins to get up to Herson's--well worth the trip!

One final note for Virginians on the fence---if you live in the NVRTA jurisdiction (Arlington/Alexandria/Fairfax Cty/PW County/Loudoun County) OR in Hampton Roads, starting Jan 1, 2008, you'll have to pay an extra 1% on the sales price--basically a tax increase.
  • donkeypunch1donkeypunch1 Member Posts: 119
Agreed. If you have great credit, when it comes time to do the deal, pull out the check and tell them your just going to write a check, already have great financing. They'll ask what great is. Tell them it's 5.25% and DO NOT show them any detail regarding your finance rate. Tell them your not filling out a credit application unless they can beat your rate...period. (They can beat it if you have really good credit)

If they say they can play, depending upon your credit, fill it out. At the end of the drama, if they can beat it, go with them. If they can't...don't. Period.
  • mursilismursilis Member Posts: 20
Thanks again for the reply. While some have spoken well of Hendricks, we were (surprisingly) not impressed with them, which is disappointing, as they're the closest to us, and we'd like to deal locally. The salesman was pushy and really tried to play games. Maybe it was just him - I'm not sure he was an 'internet guy', as he got my wife's name when she went in to see the Odyssey. Hersons has also given us the best quote, so we may still end up going to MD. We probably need to decide soon, before the incentives end! And thanks for the warning about the tax increase.

what is your base price including destnation charge and your tax rate?
  • gjones0316gjones0316 Member Posts: 6
Sent the donkeypunch email to 15 dealers in Houston. Best quote so far is $33630, plus 6.25% tax of $2102, plus documentation fees of $268, total drive out price is $36,000. Is that a good price - looks like about $600 over Invoice + Destination Charge.

Just for grins I tried the Costco pricing and got a quote from another dealership that was about $1,300 higher.

Has anyone ever had any luck using Costco's buying service? I don't understand why anyone would use it. The dealers make you go to the lot to look at the price quote - supposedly so they can make sure you're a Costco member - and then when you show them your Costco card they barely look at it. Seems like you can get a better deal on your own anyway.

i am planning to buy a 07odyssey exl R&N and got an offer from a website to help me thro this.. i would like to know , is it reliable to buy a vehicle from an internet agent ..like from fleetrates ...
what should be confirm or any precautions?
    any advice plz..
  • mfletou1mfletou1 Member Posts: 508
Yeah, that doesn't sound like the internet department...I think that makes a huge difference no matter where you shop. Hendrick loads their cars up with accessories---which they included in their quote---but some many not like the pinstripe, etc, also. I just found that with their huge processing fee, they really had to be several hundred less than my Maryland quotes in order to be competitive. At the end of October, they were, but when I went to buy last week, they hadn't really gone down any more, and the others had.

To be honest, your best deal is probably going to be today or tomorrow--huge end of the month push.

I really never dealt directly with Brown's in Arlington, but found their quotes to be on the high end--same for Ourisman in Bethesda, though Ourisman did have a good bit of inventory left.

I think Herson's and CP are your best bets and if you go with their internet departments, you won't need a shower afterward!

We're loving our new van, by the way. It handles like a much smaller car and the quality of the materials is excellent. In particular, the seats are very comfortable.

They are also doing me right on my trade-in...............only one complicating matter left.............the wife prefers the loaded Toyota....................anyone got any quick thoughts?
The offer is only good through noon tomorrow because of a trade-in proposal linked to another dealership.

    Thanks!

This is just my opinion. Buying a car is messy enough, adding a middle man is likely to comlicate things further. Posts #17261 and #17334 are a compilation of techniques/suggestions and proven practices from others on this board that work. Give it a shot and I don't think a 3rd party will do any better. If your not paying them, the dealer is...which only means their price has to be increased to offset their cost and maintain their bottom line. Minimally, do this FIRST and then take your best number to the fleet person and see if they can beat it.
  • donkeypunch1donkeypunch1 Member Posts: 119
If the wifes the one driving the thing and that's what she prefers, use the same techniques and get a price on the Toyota and go that route. At least have a cost basis and facts to compare and then let her draw her own conclusions and follow her lead. If your going to have the thing for awhile, its a long road of "I really wanted the...." Forget about the noon deadline. Someones not dying to screw themselves on a trade for 24 hours and then their price gets worse. They'll honor it or it wasn't real to begin with.
  • richiehrichieh Member Posts: 17
    DP1,

Yep, did that for the Toyota too.................believe it or not............the deals for the Honda are actually not as good as on the Toyota (08 model years). The best I can gather from chatting with folks is that the Sienna is not selling well and the ODY is selling very well.

In the end, the prices are pretty close (within $1000 or so).............ultimately, I don't think we an go wrong with either vehicle.

Using the emailing method, I do believe that I have secured nearly the lowest price in my area............so kudos and THANKS!

The only thing about the 08 Tour ODY is that those graphite rims are a little strange, I suppose they would grow on me after a while.

What do you think about Invoice + dest, TTL?

08 Touring non-pax at invoice is the best I'm seeing as well (Philly)
3 dealers have white on the lot in my area...and they have been sitting
for a bit. The one dealer who offered invoice straight out of the chute...I have to check what he has. I don't mind white, but the wife thinks white in general looks a bit cheap. Tan interior is pretty high on my list...though that Baltic Blue and grey combo are tempting. thinking Black/tan combo right now....
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
My point was that they were built into the price of the vehicle. My guess is that at $499 in total they were each relatively inexpensive items on which there's a big mark-up so the actual to cost to the dealer is little. I used to say the same thing after I bought my Touring but the fact is that it would have cost less without the accessories.

It's a different story when you get into the pricier accessories like fog lights, back-sensors, and tow packages!

The 08's haven't been out that long, so guess we can't expect a whole lot more thatn invoice...............although, they did offer me 5.29% as well.................I don't think I'm going to do much better.

For us, there is no option but Tan..............the light gray looks like cheap plastic...........the tan, with the dark grain wood kit looks pretty good.

Just got an internet quote today for an EXL with the roof cross bars and backup sensors at this breakdown:

    price with accessories: 26622.00

    Tax NYS 8.625% 2296.15

    DMV Inspection and fees 67.50

    total w/o registration fee 28985.65

How'd I do? I used Donkeypunch method. I was going to try to close the deal in the morning.

no one around me was offering to match 5.29 over the phone...the best I got was "We'll put in the computer as a match, to see if someone wants to"....so, I hedged my bets and did the Pentagon FCU thing. I too have a trade, and will be wading in to see what that gets me before I may have to do the Carmax thing.

BTW, how to check the Car sales tax rate in AR and TN. I had a hard time to find out.

2007 EXLs are going below 26k in most parts of the country which means the dealer is charging you at least ~1500 for the free warranty. I would stay away from this dealer. Get quotes for EXL without the warrantly and if you really need the warranty get the Hondacare online.
  • sundevilsundevil Member Posts: 28
You should be able to do better than 28,980 considering it is the end of the month and there are still more than a few EXL R&N on the dealer lots. Folks have reported buying the EXL R&N for 28400 end of October, I received quotes of 28,600 over the weekend in the Chicagoland area.

As far as I know 2.9% can not be combined with the dealer cash back.
