Hi, congrats on the new van and hope you are enjoying it.

We live in Lake Zurich, IL and just got a quote from a dealer for a 2007 Honda EX-L with DVD - slate green with olive interior. He's asking for 27,900 (cash) or 30,499 with 3.9% financing. Is that a good price?

    Would appreciate the input.

    Cheers,

    I just bought a 07 ODdyssey EX-L w/DVD System
I think this is an ok deal.
Paid $27,000 + tax and fees with 5.99% finance 66 months.
I purchased it from Goudy Honda in Alhambra, CA (near L.A.)

Sandsmom, you should be able to negotiate $ down to the pricing i'm paying with similiar or better interest rate.

You don't need to buy immediately, shop around, before you pay the money, you still have the upper hand. Make sure you try to get as much option as possible with that pricing. It's the end of the year and it's buyer's market now.
  • sandsmomsandsmom Member Posts: 3
Thanks!! Thank you for sharing the information. Will definitely shop around.

I wanted to upgrade my '07 LX for an EX so I went hunting on-line. I found a dealer in New Orleans that had an ''07 in stock in Nimbly Gray which I liked. It's sticker price- $29,290 with no added options.

The dealer allowed a trade-in of $18,000 for the LX. I stilled owed $12,000. The odometer reflected 16,000+ miles and there was a few scratches where it looked as though somebody had "keyed" it.

I financed the EX through American Honda Financial at a 6.99% interest rate. The difference between what I owed and what was allowed became the down payment. Total cost of the vehicle, including Tax, Tags, License and Honda's extended warranty-$20,649.80. After all payments have been made it will cost me $23,795.04, according to the contract.

The one thing I did not like was that the salesman lied to the Finance Manager by saying the EX had 28 miles on it when, in fact, it was closer to 340.

If you take 20, 649.80 X 6.99%, I just realized the numbers aren't adding up. I get a finance charge of 1,442.X 4 years.= 5,768.over the life of the loan. Add that to the $20,649.80. Looks like an error in my favor.

Can they change my monthly payments after the contract has already been signed?

    Thanks..
  • rick1957rick1957 Member Posts: 6
I'm sorry. I forgot to mention that my monthly payments on the contract is $495.73. That equals $23,795 on a 4 year loan.

Can someone please confirm that it is still $2500 and NOT $2000 (as Edmunds has been stating all through November and we knew it was incorrect)?

How does one go about confirming this?

That's what my dealer told me on Sat.

Finally purchased a Slate Green Metallic EX-L with RES on 12/1 from Herson's Honda, in Rockville, MD. They'd originally given me a quote of 28K OTD on or about 11/20, and though it had expired, agreed right away to honor it on 12/1. Process was longer because the one we originally picked had some deep scratches which wouldn't buff out, but they quickly offered to replace it with another vehicle on the lot. Overall, the people were very good, honest, not pushy, and generally friendly to deal with, unlike other sales personnel I encountered at some of the dealers in Virginia. Several dealers refused to believe the quote of 28K from Herson's, even after seeing it in writing (and swearing they'd beat it if I brought it in in writing), and claimed it was a bait and switch quote, or a demo or damaged vehicle or the like. However, the Herson's saleswoman said it was good on any '07 EX-L w/RES on the lot, and didn't try to renegotiate the deal AT ALL. I'd highly recommend Herson's to anyone in the NoVA/MD/DC area.

THANKS to everyone offering feedback/tips/advice on this forum - you truly saved me a LOT of money, and I appreciate it! :)

I've had one dealer in my area indicate to me that the incentive is $2,500... they're using it as more of a sales gimmick though ("take delivery by 12/14 and get an additional $500 off" ).

I'd guess that it is still available... the dealers just may not be straightforward about it (imagine that).

What's "RES"? I saw many said the model "with RES" but I don't know what that stand for. Anyone know? TIA

Back in October I was getting quotes from Honda of Joliet for 27200 for exl res. That was when the incentive was 2000 so it should be 26700 or even better by now. Did it all by internet and it was all very easy, no surprises.

I looked around portland, and got a great price from the guys at gresham honda. The price was 26,100 for an EX-L, just a little over 27k for an ex-l with RES. That was total out the door. The problem we found was that most dealers had "allready installed" a bunch of accessories (splash guards, wheel locks, roof bars, etc), that we were not interested in. Gresham had the splash guards, which were inflated maybe $50, but they had the best deal overall.

I did the donkey punch method, and it ended up working through them the best. I will say that Wilsonville honda was excellent. The salesmen was the best, and their price was just as good. The only problem was that my wife wanted the DVD, and wilsonville honda did not have the right selection at the time (they only had it in burgundy, which was one of the two colors we were not interested in).

So the guys at gresham were good, but parker johnston in wilsonville were excellent.

Also, we got a great rate from American Honda. They first got it for us at 5.9 (with the 2500), and then lowered it to 5.75.

Sorry, but that is not how you calculate the total interest on a loan. Remember, as your principle decreases each month, the interest amount also decreases. For rough estimate, the amount of your loan in the 4th year is about 1/4 of the original amount.

Ok, I punched a few (6) local dealers and I got offers of 26800 base price from 2 of the closest dealers so far.
I did the edmunds on line quote and the base price came up as 27200. Thats without the dealer cash back I presume. My question is, should I get the 2500 dealer cash subtracted from the base? What should I expect? Is anyone able to get the cash and the financing? I was quoted at 8% int. seems way high since my beacon is 790ish.
There are quite a few exls on the lots around tampa so I have a little time.
I did visit one dealer today with a terrible outcome.
Im also going to have to try carmax for the trade, The first dealer quoted me 9100 for an 03 exl w/50k. The edmunds says average value is 12,200, ouch!
btw the first dealer visit I made, the internet guy was out, (I had an appt)I got his "helper
' who sat me down and started to work the deal like I just walked in off the street. I have a quote! Ive got to do it this way he said, "got to play the game" Wouldnt say anything about the cash back, didnt know what interest rate I was being charged and he didnt know the trade in value. just 28900 for the car and 540/month. Too high I said. "so what do you want your monthly pmt to be???". sigh. After the sales manager came out and spelled out the terms and started his spiel, I just left. Have the internet guy call me I said, Im waiting for that call now. I guess I'm paying for that gourmet coffee and the 60" plasma in the waiting room...Not!

    Hi,
    I live in Indianapolis.
I have been looking around for a 2007 Odyssey EXL-RES. I requested internet quotes from local dealers thru KBB. The best quote I got was for $27,795 plus TTL.
Upon visiting this dealer, I found that this dealer is not ready to come down even a few dollars from this price.
A visit to the second dealer was no good. The lowest he could offer was $1000 more that the previous one.
Do you guys feel that $27795 plus taxes is a right price for the Odyssey.
    Help will be appreciated.
  • desi2desi2 Member Posts: 15
    shankar,
many dealers are making use of holdback and other "hidden" incentives to go even lower.
If you carefully read all post for last 1 month, you will notice few with invoice minus 3000.
By the way, it is about 1500 difference between with and without RES. For that much of difference, EVERY passenger can have his/her own portable DVD system!!

First at all, I want to thank all you guys for your help. just bought the 2007 Honda Odyssey EX for $25,460 OTD.The extra are 3 rows of all weather mats and mud guards. Excellent dealer in Rochester NY.

    Thanks

Shankarindy and anyone else kicking tires (looking to buy). Check out post #17261 and follow it. You'll get the floor in your market and not get bent over on trade and financing. Someone posted that their credit rating is 790 and their being quoted 8%. That's insane. With that credit you should be getting 5.4 APR from honda corp (at the highest)..but your not going to get it unless you show up with financing and play the game noted in post 17261. Someone noted some extra comments based on their experience on post # 17507. Walking into a dealer to negotiate is a waste of time. IMO.

Hi liverpool1, could you tell which dealer and contact information for the purchase? I am in upstate NY and now thinking to get one 2007 Odyssey. Thanks in advance.

I am in Seattle area. The lowest quote I have received so far using the donkeypunch method for 2007 LX base model is 21,328 + accesories + doc($50) + TTL. I am in touch with the internet sales guy and talked to him over the phone. I asked him if price is negotiable and he said yes. I am looking to you guys to guide me on what is a good price for the LX?

I have 5.9% APR financing from Capitol One. I am looking to buy the van in the next day or two. So please guide me on what my next steps should be.

in Atlanta. I got the 2007 EXL with DVD for 26750 which included destination but not the 499 doc fee. It did come with a few dealer add ons which i wouldn't pay for. I think I did okay?? Comments anyone?? I think i could have done a little better but frankly i was just burnt out from shopping. I also purchased a base 2008 CRV 2 days ago. I think I ended up at 19599 on it. Hopefully i'm done for a few years...
  • desi2desi2 Member Posts: 15
    donkeypunch is totally right.
I have been buying car over phone since 1990 (before internet and info on invoice pricing) but visit to dealership is unavoidable if you must do trade-in (especialy when carmax is not within 4 hr roundtrip radius)

It would be useful to publish info here on basis of how much below invoice (including transportation/delivery but not any doc, title, tax) instead of specific trim LX,EX, EX-L prices.
  • winston03winston03 Member Posts: 20
I think it is okay but I believe you can do better. See my post earlier today. I just got mine last night and paid $26,750. I had to pay a 499 doc fee so my price is really $27,250 before TT&L. It came with pin stripes and mud guards which i refused to pay for. I assume my dealer was still making money which tells me that your dealer can make money at my price. Frankly I think I could have got another 250 off but I was just too tired to haggle and search any more. Godd luck

Let me know what you guys think of this deal for just a plain EX-L, no Nav or DVD.

2007 HONDA ODYSSEY EXL AUTO is $24453 and includes destination of $635
PA SALES TAX 6% is $1467.18
    PA TAGS is $146.45

    TOTAL OUT-THE-DOOR is $26066.63

Is this a good price to jump on?
  • murphconmurphcon Member Posts: 3
Jump as fast as you can. No one has posted a price like yours.
  • rmossrmoss Member Posts: 23
Wow, thats the lowest I have seen. Are you sure its an EX-L? :) The lowest quote I received was 25,650.
  • rmbalisarmbalisa Member Posts: 129
Yes it is an EX-L. And actually they have 3 colors to choose from :) white, beige or gray. im leaning toward gray. I'll have to check it out in person, but other dealers were quoting at least $1500 higher. :D

In North Carolina I purchased new 2007 Honda Odyssey Touring w/RES a few days ago.

    Price: $29,999.00
Transportation: $ 595.00 (don't think it was $695.00 but it could have been)
    Cost: $30,594.00 :)

To the above $30,594.00 add TTL, Doc fees.

Any dealer will fight you tooth and nail IF you insist on BOTH cash back and cheap financing, they will NOT do it.

However, you walk in with your own financing in hand which they might match or even beat the rate you come in with, take the dealer cash back, and then get ONLY SIMPLE INTEREST financing. Nothing else will do when it comes to financing!

Dealers make money on the vehicles AND financing kickbacks even from local banks they've set up a relationship with.

Make the dealers fight to get your business - both with the vehicle sale AND fianancing if they want it all. Don't give in to pressure or teaser rates.

The RES system built into the Honda Odyssey is a much better system than you can buy individually for each passenger as you suggest.

I recently purchased my new 2007 Honda Odyssey Touring w/RES for just $29,999.00 plus transportation and TTL.

I am thoroughly delighted with the RES in the Odyssey. The middle passengers get to use the two wireless headphones, the rear passengers have to plug in wired headsets inside the rear-most left-side armrest. Additionally, there are 3 RCA plugins for Right, Left and Video which means that you can play ANY video or audio source through the built-in RES DVD player.

Also, with the RES system you can play mp3, WMA and DVD programs.

IF you also have a portable FM transmitter to plug into one of the rear wired headphone jacks you can broadcast your DVD, mp3, WMA or other music/video souce to your FM radio or the FM radios of your friends who merely have to park within the FM transmitter broadcast distance. Me? I use a small AC/DC powered FM transmitter from www.ccrane.com which cost less than $70.00.

The RES is totally worth the asking price. :):):)

If you can really get it for 24.4, including destination and processing, jump on it. What is the processing fee?

I had the previous low price reported here, which was 25294, including freight and processing.

I wouldn't shock me, I figured dealers may go even lower than than what I paid, but I had a certain color preference that was very scarce.

I have no doubt that the Ody RES system is very nice. I wish we could have gotten one. But the whole debate about whether its worth it cannot be a definitive one--it depends on your budget. You paid more than $5000 (probably close to $6000, including freight and other goodies) than I did for an EXL without RES.

I could have gotten an EXL with RES for about $1800 over what I paid. Was it worth it? Maybe to some people, but my budget is very tight, and $1800 is a LOT of money. I just couldn't justify it. $5000-$6000 more for a Touring w/RES? Only worth it if you're willing to come bail me out of bankruptcy!

Worth it to you? Sure, I can see that. But not to me.

I paid 27325 + TTL in Dallas, TX.

Does anyone know how many wireless headsets would come with this model? There was none in the car and the dealer provided me one a week later. I think there are suppose to be two.

The Edmunds website has been updated/corrected to show a $2,500 dealer cash incentive through 1/2/2008; previously it had shown $2,000.
  • ambroambro Member Posts: 7
I am new at this, but find this forum a great help. I got a quote on a new 2007 ODY EX of $25827 out the door. The dealership said they still are giving the $2500 incentive on 2007's. The price includes a $250 service/documentation fee. I am using the donkeypunch method. Is this a good price? Are there many EX vans still available on the lots? Why the name donkeypunch?

  • esteezeesteeze Member Posts: 102
I think that you can probably do a little better than that... say under $25,000 out the door for the 07 EX. Just look around at a few other dealers.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
OTD price comparisons are utterly worthless without sales tax rate information.
  • ambroambro Member Posts: 7
the base price is $23,696, title fee $25.00, documentation is $250, Cuyahoga county Ohio tax is $ 1855 for a total of $25,827. Do you think I can get it less than 25,000?
  • kimosealkimoseal Member Posts: 3
    Hi,
just bought a new 2007 EX-L (no RES) for $25,935 (including destination), plus tax, lic., and a $50 "doc. handling fee". Free tank of gas included.
North Hollywood Honda dealer (Los Angeles area). E-mailed about 8 local dealers. That's as low as they would go, but not bad. Very nice people at the dealer ship. They even agreed to take off the over priced extras they had put on the car before I would buy it.
One dealer stated that they would sell a new '07 EX-L w/ RES for about $27,000. Did not follow through. Saved the money.
Doesn't seem to make any sense to list "out the door" prices, since every one's tax rate is different.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
You can push as hard as you can but that price appears to be about the going rate in Ohio right now. I was quoted a price within $100 of your number on an EX last week in Columbus.

Should have realized you were here when you mentioned the $250 doc fee. The damned thing has gone from $30 to $50 to $100 to $250 since 1999.
  • ambroambro Member Posts: 7
My out the door price breaks down as such:

    base - 23696
Cuyahoga County (Cleveland, OH) tax is 7.75% = 1855
    title = 25.50
    doc & service fee = 250

    total = 25827.50

our tax is high here, do you still think I can get an EX fir under 25000?

    Thanks.
  • ambroambro Member Posts: 7
On your 25460 out the door price what was the tax?

I have a quote in Ohio of 25827, but that includes 7.75% tax which is high.

    Hi rmbalisa,
can you post Dealership info (or shoot me private email), might be able to warn you against some games being played by some of them - on the other hand your may be genuine
(Do not post names of any persons - just dealership name)
  • desi2desi2 Member Posts: 15
why is everyone listing OTD price?

how about listing how much under Edmunds's invoice price? (that way, we do not have to worry about trim differences)
  • desi2desi2 Member Posts: 15
    mfletou1,
where did you buy your EX-L (noDVD) - 25294 is a pretty good price. It is about 3500 below invoice. DId you have any trade-in?
