Looking for any assistance on quotes in the Seattle Tacoma area for the 2008 EX-L. I got a great deal in San Antonio 3 years ago with your help starting the negotiations - thanks in advance for your help! Mercer, I did not see any replies to your initial request... thanks!

    RRSMIGS,
    Thank you for the info.
    - What options did you get with EXL?
    - Is there a way I can have the salesperson recall your info, if needed?

    Thanks.

I live in Ohio and I was quoted $36,102 + T&T on an '08 Touring with R&N. This was not easy as I had to go back and forth with these people through phone calls and e-mails. No other dealership in the area will touch these numbers. I used the monkey - punch method and really this was the best price I cold find. Even the other dealers said to take it. Going tomorrow to make the purchase so we will see. Good thing is that I have everything in writing over e-mail. I would say the $38,475 is in line with most of the other dealer quotes I was getting before this one. I would try to find a dealership that has a larger inventory because most of those dealerships are freaked by having to pay the tax man on all those vehicles come January 1st. The larger inventory dealers seem to be more interested in just moving the vehicles at this point. Anyway, that has been my experience. Good luck.

Go in today and tell 'em to take it off the table - you never agreed to anything other than a Honda EW. If they refuse, walk away.

    Coffeemug --

I would do your research on the Honda Care Extended warranty via Bernardi or Saccucci. I would also look at oddyclub.com under their Warrenty Talk Forum. I see that one of the dealers on the Cape is offering 5% off the $1230 price for the warrenty (8/120K).

I would print out the cost for the on-line Honda Care Warranty and then ask Bock to match it. When I did this to them, they said they could not do so, so I bought it about one month later from Bernardi.

yesterday, I bought the car ( No RES/Navigation) for
    base price: $ 28588
    doc fees & dmv 295
    destination 635
    ny tax 8.375 = 2472
    Total 31990
I got 2.9% financing with 2000 down. When I use the payment est. calculator, the monthly payment came up to be $877.
When I went to discuss financing (that's the part that I screwed up) I was told that my monthly payment is roughly 940. They gave me a 2nd option 1.49% with a protection package (Basic buyer protection, HC warranty, 72m/8k miles, passive remote alarm, classic loss protection, window etching) of 3500 for a total monthly pmt $966. We were told that for additional $40 (x36= 1440total ) a month we have a whole package. But when I returned home, I ran the numebrs again. How can it be that I'm coming up with 877 monthly payment and they with 940 without a plan or with a plan 966?
When I called up next day to cancel the package, I was told that I can't, although they didn't install the alarm and didn't provide etching yet. Can they do that? (service not render yet, right?) Plus, they said that 940 included bank origination (995) fee, which wasn't mentioned during price negotiations at all. And this fee was waived in the 2nd offer. Can they do that?
I've read that I can cancel HC warraty within 60 days. What about the other parts of the package?
Plz advize me about my rights in NY. I know I can file a compain against them with BBB. But it'd be my last resort

I live in PA...assuming i get the best deal on my new car...what fees should i expect to pay? Tax of course but i'm not sure about prep fees or anything else...thanks in advance.
  • joanna148joanna148 Member Posts: 2
destination and dmv, the rest can be waived

I was offered 36,800 for 2008 touring in Pittsburgh...should I be able to match the other people on this forum? (ex. 36,102 in Ohio) I am thinking end of the year and dealer will want to push these vans a little harder. Also, are the DMV and destination fees standard from dealer to dealer? If so, how much should each be? Thanks

We are considering leasing or buying the 2008 EX-L without Nav/RES. The dealership we have been talking with is willing to lose money on the deal to make the sale. Anyone in Los Angeles area make a great deal either on a lease or purchase recently?
  • mercer08mercer08 Member Posts: 24
Jump master, Unfotunately, no one else in the greater seattle/tacoma area is sharing their purchase prices on this forum, so it's hard to gauge the local market. So far only one dealer has come close to invoice (including destination), but they are not going 1k below invoice like folks in other states are reporting. Best advice is to follow donkey punch's method in this forum (search for donkeypunch and find the postings).
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
It's unclear from your post as to what exactly is in the contract that you signed.
  • rrsmigsrrsmigs Member Posts: 3
No RES or NAV on the 07.
    Added the mudguards for 100.
If you are willing to post your email, I can send the emails I received from the internet sales teams. I am sure they remember everything. I got the van from Julio. Very responsive and timely. Final transaction was about an hour 15min in the dealership since we added my wife to a new credit app and got the 2.9% 36 month financing....otherwise I think we would have been done in 35-45 minutes.(Included car inspection and brief drive).
RES should be 1400 to 1500 more. No idea on the NAV.

Honda of Bellevue quoted me $750 over invoice plus a $200 gas card on a 2008 Touring w/o PAX if I do a deal before end of December. Kirkland, Seattle and Renton quoted $1400-$1500 over invoice but I haven't pressed any of them to do better yet.

May I ask which dealer you contacted is quoting close to invoice?

"Got a 2007 EX-L with RES and NAV for 30000 ( including all the Taxes and other fees) in NJ. Is this a good deal."

It appears to be a very good deal. Does that price really include the close to $2,000 NJ state tax. If it does can you tell me the name of the sales person at the Honda of Essex? Thanks!!!!

Any opinion on this deal 28k OTD (Occean Mist)

    with 24900 + 635 + 7% + 199 + 435.
  • alina2alina2 Member Posts: 2
We just bought a 2007 Odyssey EX-L without RES or NAV for 26,500 + 139 for a total of 26,639 OTD. They quoted us 26,753. We countered with 26,000. They came back with 26,500. Was that a good price? It did include the sports rack, mud gards and moonroof visor.

I haven't actually purchased or leased the car. We have a little time before we do that. In the meantime, I'm trying to get a sense of what they are going for in the Los Angeles area. I didn't see any posts from someone in L.A.
  • numero1latinonumero1latino Member Posts: 7
For anyone that has used this method I have a question. I am gathering all the quotes from the dealers in my area for a 08 Touring no PAX and have them almost all in. Step 12 (i think) says take the lowest to your local dealer to see if they can match or beat. However wouldnt you want to get a quote from them first. What if they quote you something lower than the lowest offer . Not sure how possible that is but I guess it could happen. Wouldnt you be setting a limit and they may just beat it by $100 or just match. Just something that came to mind while i was doing this. I havent had time to search for financing so I think I am going to see if I can get the 4.9% for 60months. I have good credit (I think) and shouldnt be a problem. Also have a trade in but I am not sure if I have time to make it to car max. Any suggestions...maybe just have them match or beat kbb private party...just a thought.

Just fyi I am shopping in Northern VA and my local dealer is Hendrick Honda. I have only heard good things about them. If anyone has any contacts let me know. I am looking to close on the 31st.

    Thanks

Thanks, mercer and berkut... nice we live in the least "deal-prone" area of the US (sarcasm).
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
You raise a valid point - there are times that one store will offer a significantly lower price (or total deal if there's a trade). Seeking to have one store merely beat another's price will rarely reveal such a situation.

Don't have time to take it to Carmax? That's the sort of attitude that costs many consumers thousands of dollars in automotive transactions every year. Competition is the only thing that dealers respect.

If you think any dealer is going to give you private party money on a trade, well, you're dreaming. Getting book trade money is usually an accomplishment.
  • numero1latinonumero1latino Member Posts: 7
Looks like I will be taking a ride to carmax today. Thanks for your feedback.

I did go buy the '08 Touring with R&N yesterday. The price was what I was offered in writing through e-mail: $36,102. The destination fee is standard everywhere $635. The Doc fees were $250. Title filing fee was $25.00. Sales Tax at 6.5% was $2,226.39. Imporant note though the destination fee was already included in the $36,102 price. The only fees on my paperwork were the Doc fees, fling fees, and the sales tax. My out the door price with tax and title was $38,603. Make sure you get them to put their offers in writing through e-mail before you go to the dealership. It's no secret that dealerships will often try to bait and switch when you are face to face in their building. Without anything in writing you have no legs to stand on. Anything in the $36 - $37,000 on a fully loaded '08 touring is a pretty good deal. Also, once you have the price you want you can have them run your credit over the phone and tell you if you qualify for the special 2.9 or 4.9% rate depending on how many months you want to finance. Again, get it in writing. When I went to the dealership they tried to say that they thought I had qualified for the 4.9% but actually it was 5.9%. The fact that I had an e-mail already stating that I was approved at 4.9% was the only thing that saved me on it. They always bring their "A" game so you must bring yours. Be nice, be courteous, but always be firm, confident, and unattached emotionally to the car. You have to be willing to walk if they play games with you.

Who was the selling Ohio dealer?
  • mercer08mercer08 Member Posts: 24
Berkut, The dealer that quoted invoice for the 08 EXL RES was Northwest Honda in BELLINGHAM, WA which is about 50 miles north of Seattle. If yo'ure looking for the same car, we may be able to get a group buy deal.

On a separate note - has anyone tried using a credit card to pay for a significant chunk of the car? Last time I bought a Honda, the dealer said that they could only charge 2k to the card because it costs them too much. Is this true?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
All dealers limit how much can be charged to a card due to the fees that the vendor has to pay. 2K or 3K is a typical limit with 5K is the highest I've heard being allowed.
  • berkut027berkut027 Member Posts: 22
Mercer -- Thanks for the referral. Looking at Northwest Honda inventory online, they don't appear to have any '08 Tourings in stock (I'm looking for an '08 Touring without PAX). Will consider talking to them, though, if I don't make progress closer to home. I'm broadening my search radius--sent quote requests to Burien, Fife, Everett and Auburn this morning. Will see what comes in. -- Berkut

I got the extended warrenty taken off phew~!!!!
They tried to give me a giant run around when I got there...after oh 4 calls to the dealer before driving the 1.5 hrs from RI. But I just calmly explained that my 4 year old would indeed be peeling the paint off the walls and how could anyone possible expect a 3 month old to wait 3 HOURS to speak with someone to clear this up (of course I said that part really LOUD so heads turned...ha) and VIOLA the "business dev." guy came right over with the cancellation form...we were out the door asap cruising home in my my first mini van!

Thanks to all the help here we got a good price
26,850 including all fees except tax
  • gsnoddygsnoddy Member Posts: 14
yep, that's a good OTD price, better than I was able to get....please identify the dealer to help others who want to buy before the end of the month....
  • alina2alina2 Member Posts: 2
The dealer is Ron Bouchard's in Fitchburg, MA. I forgot to say that we live in NH, thus did not have to pay state taxes thus was able to get the 26,639 out the door without paying the MA tax. The 26500 included the destination fee and I think the 139 is the docking fee or something like that.
  • cxxviii128cxxviii128 Member Posts: 14
We are in Northern Michigan - we are looking at a "last day of the year" offer for a new (20 miles) 2007 Touring model for $33,000? We were looking at an EX-L, but my wife really likes the auto rear gate and memory seats (we are very different heights). Plus this is only a bit more than the EX-L's they have. The dealer admitted that they really wanted to get rid of this model, because the "ride-flat" tires are apparentlya nightmare up here in the middle of nowhere...Frankly this was the 'opening' offer (after minimal haggling) so I think they'll go lower.

Is this a good price? This is before tax, tags, etc. etc. I will be reading through the posts here, but given the short time frame we were hoping that someone might share their expertise. If $33K is not a 'steal', at what price should we forego a good deal onan 08 (with regular tires) and get this one?

    Thanks for the help!
  • cxxviii128cxxviii128 Member Posts: 14
Also (see our message below), are there any 'options' that we should negotiate for with a loaded Touring? Things like floormats, mud guards, or the dozens of other things that everyone expects are included and only finds out otherwise after the deal is done? What stuff is the dealer most likely to "throw in" to get a deal done?

    Thanks!
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
33 is not a bad price for an R&N, lousy for a regular Touring. IIRC, the lowest R&N numbers reported here have been in the mid-32s. Push them as hard as you can tomorrow and when it seems clear that you reached their bottom line, bring up the accessory issue to close the deal.

The biggie (if you need them) probably would be crossbars for the roof rack. The ones that I have on my '05 are mudflaps, wheelwell trim, rubber floor mats, cargo mat, and the cargo tray (for the well behind the third seat). Take a look at an Odyssey accessory brochure for others to determine what you might need.

There's another issue that you might want to think about. The regular PAX tires are not the best in snow. Given that PAX tires prices vary quite a bit, I would urge you to negotiate a price that includes a set of PAX snows and have them mounted prior to delivery.
  • sush1sush1 Member Posts: 1
Hi I got the price from the dealer for 2007 odyssey LX for 21000 which he reports is 1500 below invoice .
and add to 21000 3% title, 399 for documentation and 4.9% apr for 60 months.and sales tax
Is that a good price. Please advice as I am going back to the dealer tomorrow.
  • cxxviii128cxxviii128 Member Posts: 14
Thanks cccompson, good info. Especially the snow tires, really good point. Yes, it is R & N - I didn't even realize those were optional on a Touring. So it sounds like I should take the deal if I can get $32,500 or less?

Anyone know about current financing deals? I think I read that people were getting as low as 4.9%?

Sounds like I should take a deal tomorrow if I get around $32K, with real good financing and a few 'extras' thrown in.
  • kraygkrayg Member Posts: 5
Don't bother shopping in Northern VA. Check MD dealers. I just bought my 08 touring w/o pax today and drove into MD to get it. You should easily get sub $39K out the door.
  • anchalanchal Member Posts: 5
I have received a following quote from a local dealer. Is that okay?

2008 Honda Odyssey EXL R&N is
    ===============================================
    Price $32754.00
    3% tax $982
    doc/adm fee $398
    reg fee $74
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------
    Total $34208
    ===============================================
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
32 might be doable tomorrow - you won't know until you give it a try.

RES is standard on the '07 Touring. The R&N adds the navigation system and back-up camera.

Just to give you an idea, about the cheapest that anybody has reported buying a set of PAX tires is about $800 with some Honda stores getting as much as double that.

Honda is offering 60 month 4.9% '07 Odyssey financing to qualified buyers through Wed.

Let us know how things turn out.

    Hi anchal,

Can you share the dealership name? This looks like a very nice deal!!!

    Bought 2007 EX-L RES/DVD last night for:
    $27,200 (incld dest shipping)
    $100 - Proc
    $819 - 3% VA Tax
    $93 - 2 Yr VA tags
    $28,212 - OTD

Dealer in Rockville, MD. I drove up from N. Virginia... I recommend others from N VA do the same.

Came with wheel locks and door edge guards (don't ya love how dealers want to charge $300-400 for the exact same wheel locks you can get off http://www.hondapartsdeals.com/ for $58).

Looks like I'll be getting HondaCare through Saccucci or Bernardi.
  • numero1latinonumero1latino Member Posts: 7
Oddly enough the MD dealers have been a bit slow to respond to follow on questions. However the best deal was from Oursimin Honda in Bethesda. The benefit of buying there is free oil changes for life and discounted maintenance. However being that is not my local dealer it would be hard to get the oil changes done there and I would prefer a local dealer. Landmark Honda was quick to beat their offer and to top it off they have the color my wife wants. I am going to see if I qualify for the 4.9% and if not call the deal off.

Thanks to everyone that helped in this forum. Oh yeah here is ther deal. I know people here like prices
    08 Touring no PAX
    $36,318.00 Plus
    Tax 3.2%
    Tags $63.50
    Processing fee $289
    Freight $635.

Any feed back on pricing is welcome. Not going in for another hour
