Thankfully, nobody was injured, and considering how fast the other driver (older model Bronco) was going, my husband and I were very impressed that the passenger who would have been most affected (in our case, it would have been my 6yo daughter) would not have had any (or so little it she wouldn't have been harmed) intrusion of the door/body into her space. Of course, the doors were so smashed that they were impossible to open, and the support beam between them was bent. The insurance guy also said that the roof was collapsed - well, what I mean is, it was bent, though I didn't notice that from visual inspection, so it must have been slight. Of course, the glass shattered and went everywhere, but I guess that's not surprising.

For a EX-L with RES, the best quote I've been given is $ 29,690; for EX-L with RES and NAV, it's $ 31,575 (same dealership; this vehicle is white). No other dealership will match or come close (well, closest to that is $31,995 - still not bad but the color is dark gray with olive interior, which is not one I'd want). All quotes above include freight; taxes, license and processing fee ($55) not included. The dealership I've been working with warned me that this was a bait-and-switch number, and that she has customer who tried them and that their internet quote changed in financing. However, we already have financing, so I'm tempted to try it.

ALL dealerships have told me that the $2500 rebate on the Odysseys is for the 2007 only, and that the only thing available for the '08 is the $1K cash back.

This was at the bottom of one of my quotes... does anyone know anything about this book?

Don't forget about the additional savings up to $1000 found in the CENTURY HONDA Coupon Book; a CENTURY HONDA new car customer bonus.

$29,690 is riddiculous! I bet their Doc fee is $500. I emailed my lowest quote on the EX-L RES ($30,247) and asked what their doc fee was and it was $500. It wouldn't hurt to make sure what their OTD price is. As far as rebates I've gotten the same thing. $2500 is on '07 it's funny how they mention the $1000 because it's actually Manufacturer to dealer rebate. They make it sound like it's yours. The email method sure is nice, makes you feel somewhat in the driver seat as a person should in this market! Things will change as far as negotiations go as soon as tax returns start rolling in. This is when dealers sharpen their teeth and go on a feeding frenzy!
  • diginatdiginat Member Posts: 8
Hmmm...hadn't thought about that; I've emailed them just now so I guess I'll hear tomorrow. I do know that the '08 EX-L with RES and NAV, for which I had a quote of $31,995, had a doc fee of $55, because I asked. I'd be happy to go with that dealership, but I really don't want a van with olive green leather interior.

I'll share tomorrow if I hear anything.

Did just get a call from someone else who wants to try to beat them all. How nice would that be? Impossible, yes, but it's nice to think about.

ETA: Basically, the offer is similar to above: for a '08 EX-L w/ RES and NAV, he'll beat the $31,995 by $50, and throw in the protection package (wheel locks, mud guards, trunk pad) at no extra cost. Processing fee is $55.

Are you sure this is for 08 EXL with RES and NAV ? The price of $29687 is too good to be true for this....Please confirm..

I am thinking the sales guy made a mistake... I t hink this is a 2007. I requested information on the 2007 EX-L and he said he did not have any more in stock and sent me this information instead.. my guess is he meant to say 2007, but I guess I could e-mail him back and see. I just didn't want it anyways... (I am hoping to get and EX-L for 25K ish ..)

    Good luck!

Bought from Moon Twp Honda in Moon, Pa. 36100 + dest + Tax. Talked with internet manager. He was very fair and honored his quote when I went to the dealership. I would buy from them again. Hope this helps. Thanks to the forum for helping me negotiate.

Are you asking if that is where I got the quote or are you telling me to look at that place???

We've committed to purchase a 2008 EX-L w/ RES and NAV, plus pro pack. The price ($32,295) is about $370 higher than my two lowest quotes, but I have my choice of our top two color options (Deep Cherry or Baltic Blue; we're opting for the blue since it'll be straight off the truck on Monday, whereas we'd have to wait a bit longer for the transfer of the Deep Cherry). With tax (7.25%), tags, license and fees, our OTD price is $35,006.13.

Otherwise, we could have chosen a nimbus gray, white, silver, or slate green for a little less, but I'll be keeping this for awhile, so I might as well like the color. The dealership we're buying from absolutely couldn't go lower, or, well, maybe she could (based on the lower prices) but I'm still happy with the deal as it is.

FYI: the dealerships with slightly lower prices (must deal with internet managers, I think) were Barber Honda in Bakersfield, and Keyes Honda in Woodland Hills, and based on my correspondence and conversations with them, I'd have been happy to work with either of them - they were both very professional and competitive. Lancaster Honda gave a good quote ($31,995 plus TTL, but didn't include the pro pack and didn't have the color I wanted). I'm buying from Robertson Palmdale Honda, and can absolutely recommend their internet sales manager, too.

Oh, and as for eyeballing the olive green interior - no, I didn't, but my 2000 Odyssey was one of those ubiquitous green/gray Odysseys, and I'm ready for a change from gray/gray kind of colors. :)

They may not honor it anyway, even if it is "in writing" {by email}. I got a wildly low quote, and when I called to say I was on my way to sign papers, the person told me that it was a mistake and that she couldn't honor it. I talked to several people about it, and was told that unless there was a signature, and possibly a VIN number to go with it, it likely wasn't legally enforceable.

The quote I received was a rock-bottom, end of year price for an '07, but was quoted as being for an '08. And I was so there, too; I was thrilled at such a bargain price. ;)

Can't hurt to try anyway, though. :)

I can't spend that much money (I wish I could) unless they can make it lower, which I am thinking not.. I am hoping to buy a 2007 EX-L... the current lowest quote I have is 26,100 plus title, tax, doc fee... how much lower do you think I can get this?

    Thanks!

I recently purchased an Odyssey Touring model at Luther Honda in Minneapolis.St. Paul MN. It's completely loaded with the towing package and extended warranty (7yr/100K mile). Black with black leather and rubber matts, etc. The final total was about $48,450 and I used my bank (USAA) for the financing.

The sales guy, Dave Mix, was great. They don't sell a lot of the touring model so I had to spend about an hour in the van hitting buttons and seeing how it worked before I wanted to commit to purchase. Dave was very patient.

I'm a little perplexed with the NAV/Phone system though. The Honda site lists up to 8GB of memory for these things and up to 10,000 phone numbers can be stored. I can only get about 350 numbers in (189 contacts). Not sure what to think about that. The hands free stuff is cool and the phone/bluetooth work great together. The bluetooth technology is very solid and I have never lost connection while devices are paired. The headphones for the DVD are wireless and are also bluetooth.

All-in-all it's a good van but I can't help think I paid a little too much for the convenience of buying at my local dealer. Not sure yet though.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
    A "little" too much?

Assuming $48,450 was the OTD total (price, fees, warranty, and taxes), I'm hard pressed to understand how you could have paid that much.

Honda prices in the Twin Cities have had a reputation for being among the highest in the U.S. In light of your experience, it seems that area now wears the crown.

For those of you who know the trends??? When do honda usually give the discounts ... I would love to get the $2000 off , when does that come, because nobody around here is honoring the 2500 off 08' cars. I was hoping to buy a 07' but missed it.. nothing left that we like... so we are going to wait a bit, just wondering when the biggest discounts come.. may have to wait till next December??????

    Thanks!

2500 dealer incentive is available for 2007 models, I think you can try but not sure how low they can go Not many left in the lot. As far as I know Post#17927 was the lowest I saw with RES. You can email me at lali3@carspace.com

    All,

Thanks a lot for all those postings and informations poured in this forumn.

Finally, I bought my 2008 - Ody Touring - Mocha Metallic - without PAX for $35234 + tax, title, their processing fee.
The out the door price is $36,733.96(which is $750/- below invoice price). Sales man at West Broad Honda in Richmond, VA was awesome. They gave, mud guards, pin stripes, wheel locks and cargo tray, free oil services and free life long State Inspection.

Do your home work from the postings in this forumn and approach the dealer of your choice to match or beat the lowest offer you have got.

All the best to all those who are still in the market.

    Yours,

    Murmal.
email me if you need further details.

My guess is that two things will result in higher incentives on Odysseys sooner rather than later. Honda is within striking distance of taking the best selling minivan crown this year. That may well combine with the tanking economy to drive prices lower. Competition does marvelous things!

Ok... I thought I lost my opportunity, but it looks like I still may have one. The guy who initially told him he sold his last two EX-L's just sent me an e-mail saying that he may be able to get me either a silver or green EX-L (07).... I am still back in forth whether this is the right time for us to buy, so unless I get an unheard of pice, we may just wait and pray that good deals are in our future..

anyway, his initial quote was 26,100 (which I know is good)... we haven't gone back and forth at all... I was thinking of asking him if he could beat a certain price (but not sure what I should say)... ideally I would love to say 24,900, but that is probablly too low???? Although it does look like there have been a few to get in the 24K ballpark. what number do you think I should throw back at him... in a past e-mail (before he said he was out)... I did say... I have other dealers right there is this your lowest bid and he said

As for the number, what number do I need to earn your business? (I'm about out of gas, but might be able to get a few more bucks.)

So, help me... please! My husband and I are trying to decide and I think we need to decide quick before they are gone.

Also, would it be better for them if we paid cash... would the number be lower or does it not matter... and if we don't pay cash... who has the best rates right now?

    Thanks!

    Hi Murmal,

I am also in market for an '08 Ody Touring no PAX in Virginia. Could you please list by line item how your OTD price was calculated (ie, car price, freight, TTL, processing fee, etc). I'm trying to figure out if using Costco might make sense...

    Thanks!

I recently completed a four day email campaign and took home a Black/Ivory 08 Touring (no PAX) for $34,800 base incl. dest., less trade, plus doc, tax, & lic. My Black Beauty was purchased at Honda of Lisle (IL).

I received nine responses with prices from 10 dealers and the top five were within $345 of each other. Honda of Lisle -- my preferred local dealer -- was very responsive and dropped their price slightly to be lowest.

Other than me forgetting my registration and 08 sticker for my plates at home, all went very smoothly. The Internet sales person was ready when I arrived with a copy of the email offer in hand. (Note that most of the dealers had reflected the current $1,000 marketing support incentive in their quoted prices.)

Now I'll have to spend some time figuring out how to make everything work. It's certainly a step or 20 beyond my '96 T&C!

THANKS to donkeypunch1 and many others on the forum for the helpful advice that made this purchase close to painless.

Supply vs Demand (not much supply left)

I heard of $25,500 recently (in this remaining low 07 supply market). If I were the dealer I would not sell for less than 26,100 since supply is low and some one out there will buy it. Assuming Honda doesn't discount the '08 to '07 levels.

I recently turn down $26,100 and was told I qualified for 2.9% honda financing. The reason I turn it down was they only offered $16,500 to trade in my '05 EXL w/ 44,000 miles (36 months old). I wanted a minimum of $18500.

If a trade was not involved I don't think I would of gotten much more off the price here in Ohio.

Don't forget to state to the dealer that you are buying a one year old van.

I have an offer from a NY dealership to lease a 2008 Honda Odyssey EX-L

    Sales Price 30,500
    Residual Value 19,050
    money factor .00113
    12,000 miles 36 months
    363.88 monthly payment
    No down payment
1700 due at signing (1st month, DMV and taxes)

How does this compare to everyone else?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
A cash sale doesn't help the dealer (though it might not matter here since we're talking Honda financing) because it deprives the store of the opportunity to get a cut on the loan.

We bought an 07 EX-L-DVD on 12/6 for 26500 + 300 doc + tax + title. I was looking at an EX-L as well and I believe that I could have gotten it for 25500 + 300 doc + tax + title. be aggressive all they can say is no.

Has anyone purchased a new car with a credit card? Does the dealer get hit with a % of the credit card sale that they have to pay to Visa/Mastercard, thus lowering your chances of negotiating a lower price than someone who pays cash or takes out a loan? I've put down payments of $2,000 on cars before, but never paid for the entire car on a credit card before.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
All dealers have limits ($5000 being the highest I've heard) on credit cards unless the customer is willing to pay the transaction fee on top of the price.

My current lease, 2006 Ford Explorer, is up the end of March and wasn't quit sure when to begin negotiating for an Odyssey Lease. Currently, I am looking at the EX-L. What is the typical Capitalized Cost, Residual Value % and Money Factor for these vehicles? Would you expect Feb. to be any better than March for negotiating a Lease? Any rumors that Honda will introduce Lease Offers for any models beyond the LX?

We purchased an 07 EXL in late December for just under 25,300 (plus $57 doc fee & TTL) at Honda of Joliet with no trade and 2.9 financing. As others have said, it really boils down to supply and demand. Use the internet to your advantage and "cast your nets" as far as possible to find the most competitive pricing. Good luck.

I was trying to buy an Odyssey ex-l from a dealer. We had agreed that he would not run a credit check or take my social security number. However, he has now come up with something called a PRIVACY NOTICE. In summary, it states that:

1- He will collect info about me from the application forms and other sources
2 -He may disclose this info to sister financial institutions.

He wants me to sign this form. Have any of you signed such a form. Any suggestions?

My lease condition is as follows. I signed 12/24/2007 (Diamond Bar Honda, CA).
    My credit score is 712.

Amount due at lease signing: $3972.00
    Capitalized cost reduction: 2970.79
Sales tax on amount paid in cash: 245.09
    Advance monthly payment: 419.66
Initial title fees/CA tire fees: 8.75
    Initial registration fees: 251
    Document preparation fee: 45
Optional DMV electronic filing fee: 28
Sales tax on doc fee: 3.71 (total 3972.00)

    Gross capitalized cost 29,353.74
    Capitalized cost reduction 2970.79(-)
    Adjusted capitalized cost 26382.95
    Residual value 15897(-)
Depreciation and any amortized amounts 10485.95
    Rent charge 3470.40(+)
    Total of base payments 13956.35
    Lease payments 36(divided)
    Base monthly payment 387.68
    Monthly sales tax 31.98(+)
    Monthly payment 419.66

Agreed upon value of vehicle as equipment at lease signing 28758.74
    Acquisition fee 595(+)
    Gross capitalized cost 29353.74

Mileage restriction is 12,000 per year (15 cents per mile).

    * At signing, the sales person told me that the lease price is same for everyone. That's why there was no negotiation. He did not ask me what price I want and I did not tell him the desired price. The sales person said to me the fixed price, which is same for everyone is $26,495.

Furthermore, they did not tell me the money factor and interest rate. When I asked about APR, they said that there is no APR. I asked again what interest rate is. They said that there is no interest or it is almost zero. I thought it was a good deal because interest is zero. I think they tried to make me confused with money factor and interest (rate). They did not mention money factor or relationship between money factor and interest rate.

Now they are saying that it is not requirement to say those things (“sue us if you can, the attorney cost will be more than the recovery"). They are offering free engine oil change for three years. Do you think just accepting it is the best way? Because they strongly refused other than giving free oil change, I offered DVD installation. I am waiting for the reply but it will be refused because when they say “wait,” I know it means “no.”
I waited so long time when I bought in the dealership and I waited so long time until the car is repaired (there was an original defect as described below). I waited, waited and waited.

I'd like to cancel the contract. If that is not a way, I want to change it into finance (with the same original money down (about 4000) and same monthly payment (419) with 4.9 % APR for 5 years; the price would be about 24000).

They say that contract change is impossible. But, because the sales person only said that only the lease price is fixed, thus if we change it to finance, that lease price will not apply. Furthermore, there is no change for the money in and out. Furthermore, I will pay 419 (about) for 2 years more.

Actually, I think this is fraud. I did not know about lease (lease factor and that the price can be negotiated because the sales person said like that). Because my car was in Honda's garage at that time for total loss (accident) and my insurance contract does not provide rent car, I needed a car. And at that time (12/24) the sales person was so kind that I tried to help him. Also I’d like to give my family a surprise present.

I did not know that to help him would result in huge waste of money, time and energy (stress). Furthermore, the car's right sliding door did open to the full extent from the beginning (I found it right before I started driving home). So I put the car in the Honda for about a week from the beginning (12/27/07 because almost service men went home at that 12/24 afternoon).

This is my first lease experience. How should I handle this? Please help me.

My initial capitalized cost reduction(2970.79)+Advance single payment(387.68) is 34.40% higher than now going national featured plan beginning January 3rd (2499*134.40%=3358.67). Monthly payment (387.68, 35 times) is 49.68% higher than now going national featured plan beginning January 3rd (259).

I requested adjustment according to January plan but they refused for the reason that January they have incentive but on December sales there is no incentive. So, I said that I will pay for the incentive amount but they again refused because Honda Finance Corporation will not allow the change. But when I called Honda Finance Corporation later, Honda Finance said that if dealer resubmits, it will be OK.

    Thank you.

I am getting bids from dealers in the Phoenix, AZ area right now for the 2008 Odyssey EX-L with no DVD (RES), and no NAV. The best quotes are coming in around $32,200 OTD, which means the breakdown is something like this:

    Sales Price ~ $29,000
    Tax ~ $2300
    Doc Fee ~ $380
    Title/Registration ~ $580

Is this a fair price now or should I wait? Anyone else find better quotes in AZ for the EX-L or EX-L w/ DVD or EX-L w/ DVD & NAV?

I understand tax is fixed by the city and doc fees vary from dealer to dealer, but how does the title/registration vary from dealer to dealer? I thought the title/registration fee is regulated by the state govt? Is that true?

Hoping I could find some assistance. My family has been looking into buying an odyssey for a while. We have shopped several dealerships. Many of them are very sneaky and we just like dealing with them. We did haggle a good price in september on an exl at open road honda. After much back and forth .. they came up with 26,000 plus . I am not sure what else they were going to add on besides the tax and tags. I assume a doc fee and who knows what else. We did not go for it then due to frustration. We really wanted one with the dvd and they would not budge. Anyhow please advise me on the "correct" honest price for this car. We are looking for a good deal and would welcome working with a great dealership. THanks in advance. Anywhere in NY, NJ and PA is great. We need a c ar soon!!!

I'm trying to understand where there is "fraud" when all of the figures were evidently (since you've posted them here) disclosed to you before you signed the lease. It's not the store's fault that you didn't do your homework.

Is there anyone out there on the "inside" that can share information about upcoming Honda incentives for Feb. 2008 (Odyssey)? I'm considering purchasing, but I want to wait for the low interest rates. Anyone know what they offered last Feb.?
