I got this deal from David Michael Honda in Freehold, NJ on Rt 9. I went on the internet first and asked for quotes. The dealer told me internet customers get the best pricing.

Does this sound good to you?

I just realized that my wife and I might consider the touring. Can someone please tell me what to expect on a Touring without PAX? I have yet to hear back from my local dealer, but on an EX-L with R&N - they were offering me $2000 under invoice. Not sure if goes the same for a Touring.

    I'm in Southern California.....'

I paid 27,200 for 2008 EX-L. Lots of Chicago Dealers at that price. Got $17,100 for my 2005 Odyssey EX-L with 59,000 miles. Thinking of getting honda care warranty and keeping this one for years.

I just finished up a purchase of a 2008 Odyssey EX-L @ Joe Marina Honda here in Tulsa. After all was said and done, paid $26,832 OTD, including roof rack cross bars, and $10 lien entry fee. Did I get a good deal? Also took advantage of the 3.9% for 60mos. financing.

Thing is, I'm planning to buy the all-weather floor mats (have the first little-one on the way next month, so we need some spill-protection). Dealer said he'd put them in the trunk for me to 'install' at his cost for the floor mats. He's telling me that his cost for mats that list online for $209 is $163. I've found them for $149 at online stores. Seems like his cost should be more like 50% of retail. I got the same story for the cross bars. Anyone have some experience with this or advice? Thanks for your help!!

BTW, Lander's Honda of Fayetteville was super helpful in this, too. More on that later.

Less than $27K OTD on the EX-L plus the special financing... You got an OK deal (for example, you could have said you paid 17K and that would sound much more impressive) and I can't believe the dealer is trying to rip you off by charging fourteen dollars more for those mats. Bad dealer, bad ;-)

I'm in chicago area and looking for the best deal for 2008 Honda Odyssey EX-L.

Can you tell me the OTD price for your 2008 EXL?
From which dealer you bought this car?
  • okms6okms6 Member Posts: 3
I think we came out OK, too, but part of the deal was floor mats 'at cost'. With some retail experience, my understanding of a usual mark-up on something like this would be 40-50% of cost. So, I'm really hoping that someone here could tell me if that's really cost in the auto industry for accessories. I also find it odd that the cost is different for two accessories that claim to have the MSRP. How could that be? I'll have to inquire again when I go in to pick up the cross-bars and mats.
  • cracoviancracovian Member Posts: 337
I mean, seriously... Was there a trade involved? Did you pay any tax? Last time I checked Oklahoma had a 4.5% slaes tax. There's no way you paid less than $27K OTD on the EX-L. Let's get that out of the way before we start discussing the $14 variance in mats pricing...

I've received quotes of $26k before tax for an exl so his quote is not as outrageous as you make it sound...

I haven't had any trouble with my PAX tires in 40,000 miles of driving. Bought my '05 Touring feeling it was a wash between the pros and the cons and still pretty much feel that way. If I was going to buy an '08 though, I'd probably go without PAX since Michelin has now discontinued R&D - it's the Betamax syndrome for sure.

That said, the Outer Banks are pretty close to being within run-flat range of the Hampton Roads area, isn't it? If so, and you're not planning on keeping the Odyssey forever, you should be ok to go with PAX given your residence.
  • okms6okms6 Member Posts: 3
We don't pay sales tax in OK at the time of the sale, usually. So, it's understood here that OTD means car, plus lien entry fees, plus doc fees, NOT including TTL. So, you are right after it's all said and done...add about $1K to the total price. Sorry for the lack of clarification on that!!
  • okms6okms6 Member Posts: 3
Sure, you looking for Tulsa or Fayetteville? The dealer in Fayetteville gave the best price, offered to drive it to Tulsa and even helped me enforce the price guarantee in Tulsa. My salesperson in Tulsa was very nice, too, but the dealership in Fayetteville went the extra mile. Circumstances of timing kept me at the dealer in Tulsa, rather than AR, as by the time I had the final, best offer from Arkansas, I had a handshake agreement in Tulsa. Thus the pricing guarantee business in Tulsa.

I've asked the Arkansas sales person if he'd like his name used on here. Waiting for email reply. Dealership is Lander's Honda of Fayetteville.

I got mine from http://www.bernardiwarranty.com/ but you can also try http://www.myhondawarranty.com/ (Saccucci Honda) or
    http://www.curryhondacare.com/

The prices are same everywhere. I went for Bernardi as they were offering a 30$ off accessory coupon. Just today I got my Honda Care warranty booklet in mail. You can also try getting a local dealer match the online prices.

Wherever you buy from just ensure that you get genuine Honda Care warranty. Hurry up the deadline to buy them from online vendors is Apr 1st 2008

I just bought a Quest. We love it. Plus there's a $3500 rebate. Went to Connell Nissan in orange county. But most dealers are giving 200-300$ below invoice and then $3500 rebate.

Don't have to deal with Ody trans issues, yeah!

    Good luck all

    hi

i am in the boston area. What's a good price on EX or EX-L ? I was quote $25k for an EX, is this a good price ? I though it was kind of high.

I am interested in a EX w/RES no leather. Does this exist ?

Any help would be greatly appreciate.
  • cambreacambrea Member Posts: 26
    Cckcal,

I'm also looking for an Odyssey EXL in OC.
Similar to your experience, I started search with Ody only... and getting curious that I have to buy Ody.

I saw your previous post that you got a good quote from Norm Leaves Honda.
If that was an e-mail quote, could you forward that to me, hhjang at msn dot com?

Also, could you send me the price you've got for Nissan Quest? If possible, could you descrive what would be the major difference with Ody EXL, such as lack of leather seat...etc?

    Thanks in advance.

Bought a 2008 EX-L w/RES at Sunnyside Honda in Cleveland for $28,200+TTL+doc fee using "donkeypunch" method. It's very effective. I was surprised at the wide range of initial offers - close to $3k difference ! Most came down from initial offer after I replied to them I had another offer from dealer X at price Y. Confirmed everything with winning dealer via e-mail and brought it with me to dealership to purchase.
  • cracoviancracovian Member Posts: 337
I was also looking and getting quotes for the Odyssey (even yestarday) but the average reliability scared me away. I don't think Quest scores high in that department either. Based on what I've seen they're relatively overpriced to begin with, so the rebate brings it down to Toyota's and Honda's level. Siennas are not as plentiful but good deals can be found, so I'm waiting for mine to come in this week. 26,200 OTD, 8-passenger LE with alloys, additional power options, and aftermarket leather.

Which dealer is this from NC? I'm also looking into a EX-L in the Triangle. Can you send me the quote to shashashak @ gmail dot com so that I can ask the dealers to match the price? Thanks! :)
  • odybuyer3odybuyer3 Member Posts: 9
Thanks! That's surprising because my first email quote from Sunnyside Honda was not competitive whatsoever. Did Sunnyside only gave you that price based on in-stock vehicles only ?

Smokeeman: can you send me the contact information of the salesperson you dealt with ? I would love to get the same deal you got!!

After getting multple internet quotes from dealers in the Milwaukee and north Chicago area I finally bought my 08 EX-L from Boyland Honda in Milwaukee.
They also gave me a relatively good price on my trade in compared to another dealer.

They were very professional in their dealings and did not try to sell anything I did'nt want. Overall I had a very good buying experience!
  • shritempshritemp Member Posts: 7
Can you please post the detailed quote from boyland Honda?

I'm from chicago area, what was the best quote from chicago dealers?
  • rashidirashidi Member Posts: 18
Picked up my Odyssey at Herson in Rockville on Monday.
Silver/grey (they have most colors) EX-L-RES plus cargo tray, mud gaurd, door gaurd, wheel well trim and wheel locks.

$29907 OTD ... i think that comes to $3500 below invoice.

Ask for Salim... he was pretty easy to work with.

Edmunds is COOL... REALLY helped to make sure i didn't over pay.
  • bsuhbsuh Member Posts: 1
    rashidi,

Sound like you got a good deal. What was your APR financing? You got the 2.9 APR or just regular APR based on your credit score.
I am also considierng to buy EXL-RES this month.
    Thanks,
    Byung

Just bought 2008 EXL from AutoPark Honda for $27800 OTD - no trade in. Used Donkey punch method to get quotes in both MD and NC. Used Laurel Honda quote to get match in Charlotte area, then Charlotte area quote to get price in RTP. Leith/Autopark/Sanford/Crown Greensboro all said they would match/beat. Crown Southpoint said it was couple hundred too low for them.
Buying process was great, very low pressure pitch for all the extra warranty/protection items. May have left a few hundred on the table as probably could have pitted Greensboro/Sanford dealers against RTP dealers, but overall am satisfied with the price. Low rate financing was never mentioned and some of the dealers explicitly said it expired at the end of Feb, so must be a regional thing.

It broke out this way (rounded to the nearest $5):

    $26,530 Vehicle (including destination)
    $ 795 3% NC Tax
    $ 75 Registration
    $ 400 Doc Fee
    $27,800 OTD

I just purchased a 2008 Touring w/o PAX for $33,520 from Sheehy Honda (Alexandria, VA). OTD price came to $34,995. I used the now-infamous Donkey Punch method and it worked great. Ourisman Honda came in with the lowest bid and I used it to get the color I wanted from Sheehy. Sheehy originally came in about $1,000 over the Ourisman bid and they (Sheehy) were more than willing to beat. We love the car and I'm really glad I didn't get PAX.

After reading a lot of threads, it appears Seattle is a difficult place to get a good deal on an Odyssey. I have an aquaintance who works at a local Honda dealership who offered to sell me an Odyssey for $200 over his cost. I am guessing this is $200 over invoice. If so, should I still shop around? It appears $200 over invoice in the Seattle area is about as good as it gets.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
  • berkut027berkut027 Member Posts: 22
You are correct--Seattle is a challenging market for Odyssey buyers. The term "over his cost" is pretty vague. Does that include any holdback that Honda pays the dealer? How about marketing support from Honda to the dealer?

There is currently $2000 in Honda factory to dealer marketing support, good only on purchases. Most dealers are pretty upfront about passing that directly through to buyers.

My opinion: with a limited amount of shopping, you should be able to purchase an Odyssey in the Seattle area for $2500 under invoice. Other areas of the country are seeing deals at $3000-$3500 under invoice. For leases, the dealer doesn't get the $2000 marketing support, so your equivalent purchase price will be $2000 higher.

I believe you will have better luck if you look outside the Seattle/Bellevue/Kirkland area. Try Everett, Lynnwood, Burien, Fife, Auburn, South Tacoma. (I leased a 2008 Touring end of January from Hinshaw Honda in Auburn and was happy with the deal.)

Even if you are leaning toward doing the deal with your acquaintance, I'd suggest taking an hour to email the Internet sales departments at a handful of area dealers and ask for their best price on an Odyssey at the trim level you desire. Find the Donkeypunch post (#16934) from October 2007. That will establish the negotiation-free market price for the Odyssey in this area and you can feel good (or bad) about the deal your friend is offering.

    Good luck.

Tried the donkey punch method, got some responses, the lowest is $29466 (only includes dest.). Can't get anybody else to come down any more, most didn't even bother to come back with 2nd quote. Comments??

I am able to get a 2001 Honda Odyssey Lx with 42,518 miles on it at $7,500. I know the Odyssey's go for a good 200k+, but did not know if the age of the van would be a big deal. Do you think this is a good buy? Thanks for the input! :confuse:

I just bought a 2008 with R&N at Metro Honda in Montclair. They can beat this price. Ask for Robert Chavez in internet sales. Good Luck

Did you purchase yet? Let me know and I will give you a couple of Southern CA dealers that may be able to offer a competitive price.
  • lookin41lookin41 Member Posts: 5
In your post you mention that the $2,000 marketing support is good only on purchases - that's not entirely true :-).

Right now there is a special money factor for Odyssey leases that is .00095, or 2.98%. That special rate cannot be used with the $2,000 incentive. The standard money factor I was quoted is .00235, or 5.64%, which can be used with the $2,000.

I just leased a 2008 Odyssey EX for a purchase price of $24,865, which includes the $2,000 incentive. I also got a tax credit of 5.05%, making my Austin, TX, sales tax only 1.2% instead of 6.25%. I never ran across that in my research - the dealer explained that it was additional lease support from Honda to offset taxes and is quota-based. I don't know if it's regional or national, so anyone leasing should ask about it.

The difference using the incentive for a lease is really minimal - mostly in the tax - and with the tax credit I got it was really minimal. It's basically a wash. The only reason I point it out is for anyone leasing that is told they can't use it - make sure you get the special money factor in that case because no $2,000 and the standard money factor is a bad deal.
