    mhenderson2, sounds like a pretty good price you got...by my math assuming 7.75% sales tax and about $250 for title and license....was your price before ttl $33.5? If so, that is about 1k better than my recent experience...was there a trade in involved that helped?

    Thanks for the info

    Hey all thanks for the posts. Pulled the trigger Monday on a nimbus gray 08 Ody EXL w/ RES. Used donkey punch and contacted the majority of the dealers in Georgia and N. Florida. Over two day period dealt primarily over email with a few phone calls. Stuck to OTD cost to keep things simple between dealers.

    Base: $27,986
    Doc Fee: $499
    7% Tax: $1994
    Title/Lemon Law: $21

    Total OTD: $30,500

    Did not include special financing or trade in.

    I'm in the middle of using donkey punch today for the same vehicle you just bought (08 Odyssey EX-L with RES). I've sent e-mails to 11 dealers in Georgia and have gotten back about 7 responses so far. Would you mind letting me know which dealership gave you the $30,500 OTD price? The lowest quote I've gotten so far is from Hennessy Honda in the Atlanta area:

    $27,498 (with splash guards and door edge guards)
    $635 (destination)
    $557 (dealer fees, includes cargo cover installed)
    $2,008 (7% sales tax)
    $42 (registration)

    $30,740 drive out price, everything included

    Thanks!

    FYI, this afternoon I received this quote from Curry Honda in Atlanta using the donkey punch method for the EX-L with RES:

    $27,211 vehicle price
    $635 freight
    $487 doc fee
    $1,983.31 DeKalb County 7% sales tax
    $21 title/Ga Lemon Law
    ___________________________________
    $30,337.31 Out The Door cost

    It's the best price I've gotten so far. My goal is to get it for $30K even OTD. We'll see ....

    2008 Odyssey EX-L RES & NAVI AT V6
    MSRP = $36,445
    Invoice = $33,378
    *Your Price = $30,878
    P.S. Remember, all prices include Destination Charge, vehicles are subject to availability, price expires in 72 hours, and price excludes any applicable taxes, fees, or other additional charges.
    *May Not Be Available With Special Financing; Applies to in-stock inventory

    This is the best I've seen so far from the 8 dealerships I emailed with Donkeypunch.
    What do you all think?

    Accurate as of 5/29/08. CR is not showing current dealer incentives, so bottom line may be up to $2000 less. Only $1000 less if you go with special APR. Negotiate up from bottom line, which is true dealer cost. Beware of BS "dealer fees" especially in South Florida, and add-on costs for pinstriping, mud flaps or anything not listed on the factory window sticker. Sometimes dealers attach their own "window sticker" next to the existing window sticker, with special "package" add-ons. This is BS. There are so many Odysseys out there right now, so negotiate hard and don't get ripped. Always be willing to walk out the door, no matter how long you've sat there and no matter how many times the sales manager has tried to work out a deal. You have no moral obligation to buy.

    LX
    Invoice w dest. 24063
    Holdback (776)
    Bottom line 23287 (may be as low as 21287)

    EX
    Invoice w dest. 26864
    Holdback (869)
    Bottom line 25995 (may be as low as 23995)

    EX-L
    Invoice w dest. 29801
    Holdback (966)
    Bottom line 28835 (may be as low as 26835)

    Don't waste your money on RES or NAV. Honda GPS is horrible. Buy a Garmin. Get DVD installed from Best Buy. Skip anything above basic EX-L. EX-L with RES or NAV and Touring models are for flamers. Also skip PAX tires, which make for a harder ride and cost a fortune to replace. Instead spend 10 minutes teaching your wife how to change a flat.

    Got a 2008 Odyssey EX-L (No RES, No NAV)

    Final OTD: $29,123.88 (Included Tax and Doc/Title Fee) With 0.9% AHFC for 36 Months

    My Tax Rate is 7.25% and Doc/Title Fee is $265

    People, when asking if the price is good or not, please indicates if the special APR is included or not - because that is $1000+ differece, if you include the tax.
  • odysseyandmz6odysseyandmz6 Member Posts: 6
    Dealership is a business after all. They need to make SOME profit... I am not saying to give your money away, but an acceptable amount of profit should give to dealership...

    What you guys think?
  • Andyboy1974Andyboy1974 Member Posts: 15
    Looks like you paid about $26,908. Plus tax = $28859. Plus $265 doc fee = $29124. With the special APR, the lowest the dealer should've charged you is $27835 plus tax and doc fee. Looks like you got close to the price offered for paying cash (no special APR). Do you have a itemized breakdown of charges you can show us? Or did you put money down?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 268,418
    I let the sales manager worry about his profit.. I certainly wouldn't build any of it into my offer, or worry about them going out of business.. The dealer has complete control over what price they are willing to sell.. If they deal isn't good enough, they won't do it..

    My job is to buy as cheaply as possible.. I assume that the dealer and me both want the same thing.... for me to purchase a car... the only variable is the price. Lower is better.. ;)

    How do these figures look for an EX lease?

    * $29,595 MSRP
    * $27,800 cap cost. That is what dealer states as invoice minus $500 plus $700 difference in trade and first payment bank and license fee's
    * .00129 money factor (second tier down)
    * Sales tax 6.75% Ohio
    * 36 months/12k per year
    * $406 per month with tax.

    I got delivery of Ex in northern va yesterday for a price of 25800. This is the OTD price and also made the dealer buy down the special rate to 0%. So no interest which is what I wanted. so 36 months 0% 25800 with the dealer accesssories like pinstrips, wheel locks and mug guards also thrown in at no cost.

    Used the Honda.com web site to send quote requests to ten dealers within 75 miles. All emailed back within 24 hours and I bought today from Don Ayres Honda in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. This is a nice way to buy a car.

    Cash deal, no trade-in, MSRP $32,845.00

    $ 27,239.00 EX-L including $635 destination
    $ 1,907.73 7% Indiana sales tax
    $ 1.25 Indiana tire tax
    $ 149.95 Documentation
    -----------------
    $ 29,296.93 Out-the-door

    Just trying to figure out the accurate Acquisition fee for Honda Finance leases.
  • karlw90karlw90 Member Posts: 59
    I got about the same thing - I was quoted a little less at 30,533. That's w/o 0.9% financing however, if you go with that tack on another $1K to make it 31,533. Make sure you get the "out the door" price before you go with them, and get it in writing (aka email). I'm going tomorrow afternoon with email in hand. It's not the best price I've seen on this forum, but some of these prices people get just isn't possible in the Chicagoland area, and I want to stick with a local dealer.

    I got several quotes from all dealers in va and md used the approach described by many on this forum and finally went to Hendrick Honda woodbridge after discussing. You can talk to Karim and refer me for good deal. The sales man was good and did not attempt to sell any unwanted warranty and acessories.

    This is the price I was quoted on a 2008 Honda Odyssey EX-L w/RES. Does this sound reasonable ?? . I can also get 4.25 % financing for entire amount and up to 72 months through CU.??

    Here is the pricing, including all tax & tag fees.

    $34445 MSRP

    $27679 Internet Selling Price (This price includes the promotional dealer incentive from Honda and is valid until 5/31/08. The promotional dealer incentive cannot be combined with Honda promotional finance rates or Honda promotional leasing programs.)

    $635 Destination/Freight Fee

    $99 Dealer Processing Fee

    $28413 Internet Final Price.

    $1136.52 VA Tax (Includes the 3% VA plus 1% NVA tax)

    $246.50 Tag, title, lien, registration and service fees

    $29796.02 Total on the road.

    Prices for dealer installed accessories, state tax, tag and title fees are not included, unless listed above. Typically, the Odysseys will have Splash Guards and Wheel Locks installed, which cost $262 plus tax. Please note prices are valid on in-stock vehicles through 5/31/08. Special financing may be available for you car. Follow this link for more information.

    MSRP is:......................................................$32,845.00
    Internet Department Sales Price is:...............$27,500.00
    + Doc, Title, License and sales tax @ 7.75%.
    OUT THE DOOR PRICE IS:.......$29,968.43
    Price Above Includes DESTINATION AND HANDLING!
    Not to be combined with any other promotion.

    Think I should pull the trigger, or try to get it down to $29K OTD?
  • lerxstlerxst Member Posts: 11
    I still think you have some room on base price on an EX-L w/o RES.

    I'm essentially down to 28,000 with special financing, 27,000 w/o special financing. That's the best I can do in my area. We're going to pull the trigger today. Turns out that if I can get Honda financing to get me a rate of 4.34%, like a previous poster, that I would save $420 over the life of the loan vs the 2.9% at the higher price. We'll see today.

    So if things go well. I should be

    27,000 base price
    1375 tax
    289 doc fee
    24 title

    28688 OTD.

  • sd_vanbuyersd_vanbuyer Member Posts: 5
    I have a capital one check coming my way for mid next week. The rate for 60 months is 4.67% partially because I am an Costco Executive member. This is the best deal I could find even compared to the local credit unions, or at least what they posted online as their rates. So, I am not sure how much better AHFC can do for me but it will be interesting to see later this week. Also, I will be interested to see if the factory to dealer cash will go up, down or stay the same for June. Does anyone have any insight on that?

    Today I bought a 2008 Odyssey EX-L with RES, Nimbus Gray with splash guards and pinstripes. After test-driving the minivan this week Monday, I e-mailed all of the Atlanta, Georgia area dealers on Tuesday, using the donkey punch method. Over the next couple days, I received eleven quotes. I e-mailed the lowest quote to the other ten dealers, asking whether they could beat it and indicating my goal was to buy the car for $30,000 even, out the door, including tax (7% DeKalb County, Georgia sales tax), tag, title, destination, doc fee, Georgia Lemon Law fee, and all other costs, fees, and charges of any kind. About three dealers got aggressive with their pricing, and I played them off of each other. I bought the minivan this morning for the best quote I received: $30,255 out the door, everything included, from Honda Mall of Georgia. Paid with cash. I worked the donkey punch method pretty hard, so I think this was about the lowest price I could have gotten from any dealer in the Atlanta area at this time. It didn't hurt that today is the last day of the month, and most of the dealers seemed motivated to sell. One dealer, Hennessy Honda, stood out for the professionalism of its Internet sales person. While their price ($30,500) was not the lowest quote I received and I did not ultimately buy from them, it almost would have been worth spending an extra $245 to avoid the games some of the dealers tried to play (even with all communication being by e-mail). Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase and highly recommend the donkey punch method.

    I finally pulled the trigger after many months of studying. I did this deal with 2.9% financing for 60 months, otherwise I would have gotten it for $1000 less if I had paid cash or secured financing on my own.

    I did not trade in an old vehicle, nor did I put any money down. The finance guy did try to play games with me, and I tore him a new one.

    One serious piece of advice: Make sure the numbers you agree to on the deal sheet are copied over EXACTLY onto the finance contract. My dealer added the "dealer fee" for $600 onto the finance agreement when it had been crossed out on the deal sheet, and tried to get me to sign the finance agreement without looking it over.

    Never pay extra for mud flaps, door guards or pin striping, etc. Tell them you don't want it and they'll give it to you anyway for free.

    Do NOT buy the Honda Care extended warranty or the service contract from the finance guy. You can get the Honda Care elsewhere after the sale at the new car rate up to the first 6,000 miles on your vehicle. Also, Honda does NOT have a service contract program, it's from a 3rd party vendor and it is a rip!

    Here's my deal:

    $ 27835.00 for EX-L (no RES and no NAV)
    6.50 tire/battery disposal fee
    1695.49 6.5% sales tax in Palm Beach County, FL
    306.65 Registration/title/documentation fees

    $ 29843.64 Out the door!!!!

    Monthly finance payment $534.97

    I am new to the lease game and was wondering if someone could give me advice on this deal?

    MSRP $36,445
    Selling Price $30,592
    Adjusted Cap Cost $31,561
    LEV Rt/Amt: 51% $18,586
    Term 36 months / 15k miles
    LMF Sell Rate: 0.00077
    Tax: $1006.07
    Annual Fees: $49
    Total Initial Fees: $419.00
    Cash Down: $1500
    Monthly Payment: $399

    I have shopped other dealers in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia and this is the best I have seen, any suggestions, comments, or questions might help me pull the trigger on this.

    Thanks

    I leased a 07 Odussey LX $198/mo & 2000 @ signing + TTL from Boch in Jul-07.
    In 08 Mar & Apr, I went down there twice (each round trip is 2 hrs) tried to traded in the above and lease 08 Pilot but failed due to the reason Boch offered very LOW trade-in... don't expect top $ for your trade.
    The advertised price is right. Sometimes the newspaper ad. is only for a coupe stock#, while sometimes are for EVERY car in stock at a specific MSRP so you are free to choose your favorite color.
    The newspaper ad. is weekly. If you didn't see any you exactly like, just wait for next Saturday. New ad. is up every Saturday. The ad. is run as a cycle :1 week on LX, then next week on EXL, the week after is EX or SE and so on.
    You can chat live online with sales people. The conversation is in record and can be printed out when you go there. You can also request the sale people to email you a detailed quote (best is out-of-the-door price) so no surprise after you arrive.

    Only thing to be buyer aware of is the 'destination charge'. The floor manager, trying to make more bucks, will kick this charge in 1 more time, even the ad. states how much OFF MSRP and the MSRP has the dest charge included already.

    Overall their ad price is cheapest among NE dealers as No.1 volume seller. Other car dealers hate Boch due some buyers ask them to match Boch's ad. price. To take advantage of this you better prepare to sell your car by yourself instead of trade-in. I downloaded Boch's promotion in PDF format and study all those fine prints weekly while I was in shopping mood.

    Finally 1 month ago, leased 08 Pilot VP AWD from Herb Chambers (Boston) with 120% KBB fair value guaranteed for HONDA Trade., my 07 Odyssey LX was tarded in at $20,500 instead of Boch's offer $17,000 A $3,500 difference. However this Herb Chambers and me don't have the right chemistry, so some screwed up (theirs not mine) during the buy process:

    I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area. I got a quote for $28,388 as the selling price for a EX-L with RES, including destination but excluding taxes and license. What do people think of this deal? Are there other buyers in the Bay Area who might want to participate in a group buy to get an even better deal?

    i live in the baltimore md region and i am looking to buy a exl with dvd. i received an internet quote for
    $27,678.52
    * All prices listed in this email exclude tax, title, destination, dealer accessories (if any), processing fees. i think it is a good deal but i looked at the edmunds tmv which showed the msrp as 33,810 freight 635 total msrp 34,445.

    so my question is does the msrp 34,445 include the freight. i don't want to get scammed into paying it twice. i assume the destination charge is the freight charge
  • bigdadi118bigdadi118 Member Posts: 1,207
    Since the quote didn't say $27,678.52 is the MSRP so he has the right to add destination, but you can counter-offer with "delete the destination charge". Good luck.
