I have got a quote of 29000 including destination + TTL .
Can i bite the bullet or is there any more negotiation possible
regards
Brainage2
here are the details:
28500 base and destination
855 tax
69 plates
369 doc fees
29793 total
Invoice (with destination): 29,383.53
Tax (3%) : $893.48
Title: $74
Doc: $399
OTD: $30750.01
This forum has been very helpful in negotiating. Thank you!
Can you shared the quote so that I can work with the dealers? Thank you very much.
ccInc.
I bought from my dealer before, and they have been willing to swap for car from another dealer. Aside from a newbie aggressive on the warranty/service programs, fairly innocuous process. Of course, inventory and colors are low now.
Agree on staying away from PAX, b/c a bent rim, plus tire, plus sensor will cost you about $700.
I primarily negotiated via email but spent time visiting many dealers. A dealer in Natick was a notorious bait and switcher, with low ball pricing. However, if they have the stock, then they have good prices and processes. Newton Village intentionally responds with poorly worded or erroneous info to bring you into showroon, and then bait and switch. http://www.dealerrater.com/dealer/Honda-Village-review-6730/ has some hideous reviews of them. A couple of dealers would not respond via email nor negotiate via email.
Only had the car about 2 wks, but it's a nice car. Highway noise is a bit high. But it's the handling, design, ergonomics, etc.. that makes the car worth it over Sienna, etc..
Thanks for the info on this thread, good luck.
-Touring in NH :shades:
Lease without negotiation 800 down, 342 per month inc tax for 35 months, 12k/per year for 3 years this I think for sure I can get him down to 325-330. Residual is really high around 18300 which I don't like in case I want to buy it as out of door price increases by 3000 in the end if I decide to buy.
I'm trying to buy it today or tomorrow, after that I will provide dealership names etc....
Any good experiences and deals with Wisconsin dealers that anyone could share with me?
I have also received quotes from several Twin Cities dealers, which, from what I can gather, is where you made your purchase. Several posts ago you indicated that you would reveal the dealership and contact once the sale was complete. Have you completed the sale to the point where you could reveal those details?
Thanks.
Opened a case with BBB and with in a week, Honda has agreed to repurchase the vehicle. :lemon:
If the damage is less then $750.00 dealers dont have to disclose the prior damage. So think about it, when you an Odyssey EX-L selling $26400.00, which is for $3600.00 UNDER ACTUAL INVOICE ($30001.00 - $2000.00 dlr cash - $966.00 3% holdback for an actual net value of $27035.00) that means a dealer is losing in actual real dollars $600.00. Of course, if the dealer repaired $200.00 in damage but got $1700.00 for the car, then you can see that they actually are still making money - not losing money.
The only person who is losing is the consumer by purchasing a prior damaged vehicle. No matter how great a job they do in the PDR process, it still weakens the clearcoat and could lead to greater problems in the future that Honda WILL NOT cover under the finish warranty. AND, the dealer has no obligation what so ever to disclose the damage. Remember the old saying, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is". Well, it probably is.
FYI - the damage was west to northwest metro.
I was confused by your example, however. Are you saying that they must disclose the damage if they were compensated for more than $750 or if their cost to repair it was greater than $750? Either way, this sounds like more of a problem with "disclosure" consumer protection law than anything else. Couldn't that happen at any dealership? Or are you claiming that these two dealerships in particular are more "underhanded" than the other local Honda franchises?
Also, I would disagree with your assertion that any vehicle priced below $XX,XXX.XX is too good to be true and, therefore, somehow flawed. All dealers have different motivations for selling vehicles at different prices. I have every confidence that there are legitimate reasons a dealer could have for selling a car at, by your definition, a $600 loss. Surely, car dealers are in the same boat as other retailers: not every item in the inventory turns a profit. I would think that holding an Odyssey on the lot for 4- or 5-months costs the dealer more than $600. If they anticipate, because of soft sales, rising gas prices and weakening economy, that they may not sell some percentage of their inventory fast enough, they will likely prefer to take some loss now, versus a greater loss later.
Would it be accurate to say that your dealership has had the occasion to sell at least one vehicle at a "loss"? Was there something "wrong" with that vehicle that you did not disclose? Should I expect something to be wrong with any vehicle priced below "cost"? Maybe I am naive, but I wouldn't necessarily jump to the conclusion that a vehicle is somehow less than "new" if it is priced $600 below cost.
Thanks again for the heads up on the hail damage. I will keep that in mind if I buy west.
I was going to use the AAA Car Buying program, but ended up talking to a broker in Southern California. He claimed he could beat the AAA program ($100 over invoice) even with his fee. One or two phone calls telling him what I wanted, and 24 hours later we were at the dealer in San Diego signing papers. Here's the numbers. Note he even got us a small discount on the extras and warranty.
$29,093 ('08 EX-L no RES or NAV)
$336 Mud flaps, door guards, wheel locks
$55 Docs
$234 License
$1295 7yr/100K Extra Warranty
$2,285 Tax
$33,352.76 Out the door.
It may not be the lowest price I've seen here, but the time saved by using the broker versus calling and comparing and haggling..... completely worth it to me.
If anyone is interested, he does all of his business through referral, I'm happy to share his contact information.
Earlier this week, I requested quotes through honda.com for an '08 Ody EX-L silver from 10 local dealerships in the Boston area. I stated in all requests that I would pay by cash, no financing needed and I'd prefer to be contacted through emails.
Within 2 days, I received 6 quotes in the emails (all quotes below include destination charge, which is clearly stated in each email):
Cambridge Honda: $26,998.00
Atamian Honda: $26,999.00
Honda Gallery: $27,156.85
Kelly Honda: $27,200.00
Bernardi: $27,301.00
Herb Chambers: $27,801.05
The doc fee ranges from $264-299.
Title, registration and inspection: $115 ($50+$36+$29: standard charges for new plate in MA)
I also received emails from two dealership without stating clearly what exact price they would offer me, so I didn't put them into my consideration at all. I also received several phone calls from others even though I stated clearly that I prefered emails. I didn't take their phone offers seriously either. In fact, their offers weren't that good to begin with.
At the end I decided to go with Cambridge Honda because of price plus they stated in their email that the quoted price includes an "industry exclusive 5 year/100,000 miles warranty at absolutely no additional cost". There is a catch to this and I'll describe more.
Before I went to the dealership, I called them up to confirm the pricing, including doc fee, TTL, etc. I also asked her specifically whether there would be charges other than what we just discussed and she quickly responded "nope, that's it!". There is another catch to this and I'll describe more.
Yesterday, I went to Cambridge Honda, hoping to get everything done within an hour or two. I walked out in almost exactly two hours, paid $1,000 deposit with a credit card.
The two hours I spent at the dealership was pleasant but a little annoying. Here is what happened during the two hours I spent there: I was passed around to different people, first the service dept rep, next the accessories guy who tried to sell me wheel locks, mud guard, etc. then another person who tried to briefly go over the car with me, then another one to go over the details of pricing and at the end, the extended warranty guy trying to sell me the HondaCare warranty.
Here are the two catches:
1. The "industry exclusive 5 year/100,000 miles warranty at absolutely no additional cost" to me it's a scam. You have to do all the maintenance work at Cambridge Honda in order to get the 5 year/100,000 miles warranty. It wasn't asterisked in the email and I didn't know it until I asked for more details.
2. I specifically asked to confirm there would be no other charges other than doc fee and TTL and I received a quick "nope, that's it!" on the phone. But when I looked at the pricing agreement, I noticed there was a 0.75% "commission charge" added to the total and I immediately asked to talk to the manager. The sales manager kept saying that the amount was what the sales people got paid, all dealership do the same, etc., which is total BS to me. At the dealership, I even called a friend who used to work at Bernardi and she never heard of such a charge. After some heated conversation, the sales manager agreed to remove the commission charge.
So, don't budge on any add-on charges other than the regular doc fee and TTL. In fact, doc fee to me is also a scam and I really can't justify why they charge nearly $300 for documents that cost less than $1. But since all dealership in my area charge about the same, I didn't bother to haggle on that.
Lastly, I was too naive to bring in my personal check book not knowing they needed a bank check or official check (This is my 3rd car purchase and my previous two purchases were used ones from friends). Now I understand why they didn't mention the fact that they needed a bank check or official check when I was confirming the pricing with them over the phone simply because they wanted to up-sell me with accessories, extended warranty, etc.
This morning, I brought the bank check and spent another hour at the dealership for signing papers and going over the car features with the salesperson (I'm not 100% sure but I believe they are required by law to go over all the features before you drive the car off the lot) then I walked out the door with a free bottle of champagne and my brand new silver Ody with about 6 miles on it!
My advice to new car buyers: Tell the dealership that you would need the exact amount for the bank to write up a bank check or official check before coming in, if you're not financing. Anything that sounds too good to be true, ask them whether there is any catch, like the "industry exclusive 5 year/100,000 miles warranty at absolutely no additional cost" I received in the email. Lastly, do not purchase HondaCare from the dealership. You can get it online for a lot less. I purchased my HondaCare warranty 8yr/100k $0 deductible for $1,120. Cambridge Honda offered me $1,495 which I quickly declined.
I would still recommend Cambridge Honda since I never felt pushed to buy anything. Every time I said no, I wasn't given any hard sales pitch and all staff there are quite polite and friendly. However, I still don't like the fact they surprised me with the bogus "commission charge".
I made two trips and spent a total of approximately 3 hours at the dealership. Hopefully, you'll spend less time than that after reading this message. I personally would like to walk in, pay it and drive it off the lot but I learned my lession.
At the end, I paid $26,998 + 5% MA tax + $264 doc fee + $115 title, registration, and inspection, i.e. $28,726.90 OTD (MSRP $32,845 including destination)
Good luck to you all!
Wow, expensive accessories! This site has these three items for $139, but of course that's w/o installation --> LINK
I started to look for minivans and the Odyssey is on the shortlist (Sienna and Town&Country the other two)
I am looking to buy in the DFW area, preferably in Richardson/Plano/Mckinney/Frisco locations - If you are looking for one, perhaps we can tag team (did that with a 2005 MDX purchase and that worked well)
One dealer offered a costco discount of $1,100 on EX-L + Res Invoice - ie $30,182 (incl dest charge) but most cars on the lots here have almost $1900 adds ($599 for EPP and $1297 for HPP stripe tint - dealer offers 0.9% finance
Request answers for a few questions - thanks in advance for answers
1. Does Honda not have a cash back at all instead of low apr ? (surprising when toyota and chrysler are offering)
2. Are the adds legit - whatever EPP means and $1300 for stripe/tint
3. Looking for recent OTD prices - this forum has deals in may that had the $2000 cash back
regards
I like how you say, "by my definition" as if I were making it up.
If you can get them to sell you a car at a true $600.00 loss or more (thats not factoring in any of the overhead and commissions), then you are indeed smarter then 99.9% of the shoppers out there.
It still is not clear what you are saying about the damage disclosure. Is the definition of damage what the dealer was compensated by an insurance company or is the definition of damage how much the dealer spent (via PDR or other means) to repair the car?
EX-L should go for around 27,000 easily. I'm getting offers for 28,300 for EX-L RES debating to hold out to see if there are sweeter deals in July.
Personally, I don't see the reason to buy an extended warranty on a new Honda. It doesn't seem to be a good investment i.e., price of it, considering the odds of needing the warranty.
Honda 2% of the Base MSRP
And it is called DEALER holdback, not consumer hold back. Dealers don't have to disclose or share if they dont want to. However, most dealers are willing to give up the 2% (on '08 pilots, odysseys and ridgelines) to make a fair deal for both the consumer and the dealer. But the 1% - thats how they pay commision and floorplan.
Anyways, people are here to make informed decisions. It's up to the dealer to sell or not sell to make their quota. If a salesman asked me how much profit that I want the dealer to make I would answer them honestly "nothing" so don't ask. That's my 2 cents.
I bought a white EXL with NAV and RES from Honda Cars of McKinney.
Here is the details
MRSP $36455.00
Dealer add on made the total $38955.00
( add-ons were window tint, wheel locks, paint sealant, fabric guard on the carpet, mudflaps)
Offered: $31000.00
Total out the door: $32982.30
I also was able to get the 0.9% for 36 months.
I used the spreadsheet from www.carbuyingtips.com to calculate my offer. The most I planned to offer was $31215 but they accepted 31000. I calculated all their add-ons to be worth $269.
You may want to try John Eagle Honda in Dallas, I dont think they put many add-ons. I had planned on trying them next but Honda of Mckinney accepted my offer.
