Great point. I will have a rate from my bank and see if they can beat it. Do you know if the dealer had any pre-payment penalty or other 'requirements' with their loan? Sometimes they have a mandatory, i forget what its called, an extra fee you pay up front for 'protection' if you can't work and repay the loan.

Please let mek know the dealer name and address. Thanks

would like to know a good price for an ex model in the Detroit area....I have been given the run around by local dealers... the closest price I could pin them down is 26,500 ....that seems pretty high to me. Thanks
  • mkielmmkielm Member Posts: 38
We never got into details - I was kinda miffed that three days before the finance guy told me the lowest he could go was 6 point something, but I will tell you this was a honda finance loan (4.3%), and he had told me earlier (refering to the ~6% offer) that it was a "simple" car loan with no prepayment penalty. The problem with COSTCO, if you are in a rush, is that you will apply and they will approve you immediatley and send you the check (for $15 overnight or free through snail mail) - you will need to call them to get the details of the loan (term, etc.). You also need to select auto pay for lowest term.
    Good luck.

Same North East market here, but much higher prices for me. I'm interested in the 2008 EX-L, but haven't gotten below $29,000. What dealer(s) are you visiting?
    Thanks.

    Hello-,
With the end of the month upon us ---is anyone wanting to toss a thought on this great game board ---of car dealings --what the great Honda King ---will decide to offer ?
I am in the upper midwest ---and have to believe that the offers are going to have to improve----..we have been wanting a Odyssey NAV-RES --but the payments are a bit tight in todays economy -...especially when in a matter of a few weeks ---the 2009 's are going to show up ---making a new car purchased today ~~already a year old ~!!! We haven't been "lucky" enough to find anyone coming under the $30,700 ---basic car---no extra bells or whistles --and NO trade in either... Sigh~~~
We are now contemplating the Subaru Forester ---a much smaller vehicle --with manual transmission --(FUN ! )---and a 2009 ----and now coming with its own rebate of $2,000. And an easier price tag -----...want to share your thoughts ? :)
  • hoopsluverhoopsluver Member Posts: 17
Sorry --it is the 2008 Subaru that is being offered with rebate---NOT the 2009.....
Sorry --if this caused anyone heart failure ~!!

Thanks for having this forum! I felt better equipped to go into the dealership to negotiate. Got good prices from Pohanka in NoVA and from Hubert Vestor in NC. West Broad Honda bettered the deal and my OTD price was $26.7, and I didn't have to drive anywhere to pick up a car. Yes, out the door (taxes, freight, $399 processing fee, and DMV fees included). I think I did pretty good since I walked out the door with the TOTAL purchase being $2K less than sticker price! I will say that Pohanka tried really hard to get my business though - maybe I should have tried for $26 even! (I started at $25.5K)

Sorry, don't realize how I bounced into the Oddessy forum!

Where did you buy your Ody with res/nav for $33,5K OTD in the Bay Area?? Can you share this info?
  • kybaseballmomkybaseballmom Member Posts: 3
Ended up getting the Ex-l w/DVD for 28900..............27,000 ended up being my OTD price after trade. I've been waiting for a year..............finally! Chrysler came back w/$24,490 OTD (leather-heated, dual dvd, back-up camera), but I really liked the Honda better! :)

    Invoice is $29166

    $27k includes :
    $840 tax
    $90 tags
    $475 processing fee
    $675 destination charges
    $595 appearance pkg

    Thank you.
  • wwtsdwwtsd Member Posts: 3
Will be purchasing an EX-L with DVD and NAV for just under $32K OTD:

    29,500.00 - vehicle cost
    1,937.50 - Tax
    441.00 - License
    41.25 - Title
    50.00 - Doc Fee
    31,969.75 - TOTAL

Also found 6 year financing through HIWAY Credit Union for 5.5% (need to open a checking and have a monthly direct deposit to get this rate).

Any feedback or thoughts on the final purchase price?
  • wildcatbcwildcatbc Member Posts: 1
I live in Central KY as well. Who did you buy from? Was the $28900 for the EXL with DVD before the taxes, tag and title? Would you mind being more specific with the price before your trade-in to help me out? Thanks!
  • gbaskargbaskar Member Posts: 11
Did you asked for Honda financing. I got financing for the same price from Brookdale Honda. Call BH
  • multiplyby2multiplyby2 Member Posts: 3
What are people paying for each of these in MA, and where? I hope to buy one tonight (probably the EX) an any help is TRULY appreciated!

I'm getting quotes in the high $23k range (incl destination). Is that good?
  • snaxvansnaxvan Member Posts: 3
I'm shopping for the same in RI. An EX in 23K range is excellent. Let me know the dealers who offer that! An EX-L you can expect 2-3K more.

    Good Luck!

Thanks, I have the list at home, but will post tomorrow (hopefully with a success story on my part).

I've tried a lot of dealers and so far the best I'm getting for a EXL OTD is $29,400. Can anybody let me know of a dealer around here or Portland that they know is willing to do better? It seems like people outside of the NW are getting much better pricing.
  • mplshondadlrmplshondadlr Member Posts: 409
Isn't sales tax in WA 8%? If so, it's much higher then most states. Do you know the selling price including destination?
  • sun_dancesun_dance Member Posts: 13
True the sales tax is slightly higher, but the base price being quoted is $27,300, that does not include tax, title, doc fees.
  • mplshondadlrmplshondadlr Member Posts: 409
Does that include taking advantage of the low rate APR option? If so, that is an AWESOME price. If not, you should try to get the selling price down to $26501.00 - $26701.00.

I was an F&I manager in Seattle from '02 - '05 and I remeber that high tax rate!
  • castillocacastilloca Member Posts: 1
This forum has been SO helpful in my quest for a Honda Odyssey.

I followed the instructions here to get email quotes from 10 dealers in my area -- all were willing to send me base price, destination, doc fee, tax, license, and the OTD (out the door) price. They're all willing to compete with each other at this point.

The economist's honda experience podcast mentioned in this forum was also FABULOUS and quite helpful.

I got the sales guy to quote me $26,500 on the EX-L. OTD for $28,848. (I'm in CA so taxes are $2,058, Lic $222, doc $55, Tire $9.)

It's probably been mentioned here before (I never saw anything about it), but you can find out all the current dealer and/or customer incentives currently going on here.

The Odyssey currently has a dealer incentive of $1500 - $2500 through 9/2/08. That leaves you with A LOT of wiggle room, so be sure to use that to your advantage.

Thanks, everyone for the great tips!
    :)
  • sun_dancesun_dance Member Posts: 13
that was for a cash price without the APR option....although i would certainly go for the price if i can get them to accept the APR as well.
  • jens15jens15 Member Posts: 1
I've seen a lot here about recent prices for other models -- interested in prices paid for Touring w/o PAX. Is just under $33,500 before the $770 plus tax & tags a decent deal? Or wait another few weeks?
  • mplshondadlrmplshondadlr Member Posts: 409
IMHO -- Offer them $26501.00 for a cash purchase price. See what happens.
  • sesarjsesarj Member Posts: 34
I just signed a lease last night for a Touring no Pax. 33,800 including destination was the sale price.

    Los Angeles, CA
  • kybaseballmomkybaseballmom Member Posts: 3
We purchased from Jeff Wyler Honda in Frankfort. I walked out of the Honda dealers in Richmond & Lexington (was not impressed). However, I really liked these guys. In my first post it should have been 29800 instead of 28900. Sorry about that. It actually ended up being closer to 29400 before tax, title, fees. Hope this helps! :)
  • jbackus4jbackus4 Member Posts: 1
A previous poster was right in suggesting getting a cash price of $26,5xx. That was the price I was given via the email thru a local dealer website. When I went to the dealer they were not able to give me the trade I wanted. Still, the discounted Honda EX-L @ $26,5xx was a great deal.

Dealer = Herb Chambers Honda of Westborough, MA

Recently I wrote about the 'sale' at boch in norwood ma. $24,988 for ex-l. Called day before and they said it was only on certain stock models. Went down on the 31st and surprise, none left. Almost walked out but decided to negotiate. Ended up getting $25,357. Other dealers I called while at boch said it was a good deal and to buy.
  • tuxmasktuxmask Member Posts: 21
What's the trade in value if any? What's the OTD price including tax and everything. Please breaking down if possible. TIA.
  • onthefly71onthefly71 Member Posts: 6
Have an OTD price of 31,600 on a black 08 including taxes and everything else.

    Any thoughts from the masses?

    thanks in advance
  • slowcarslowcar Member Posts: 66
Excellent price. Back in '03 I paid $25,500 for an EX-L and I was very proud of the deal. So the newer/better van, more features/options, deppreciated dollars.....then paying less? The van should have been $40,000 compared with '03 dollars. What gives???? Not that I complained though.

BTW, last week I paid $24,000 for an EX and felt good about it.

For anybody in the Triangle region of North Carolina, I strongly urge you to avoid doing business with Autopark Honda in Cary. I was quoted 23,936+++ WITH 2.9% for 60 months on an EX. I confirmed two times via email confirmation that the special financing was available at the price quoted and twice it was confirmed. My wife and I were very excited. We arrived at the dealership yesterday and found the perfect color. We go inside to complete the deal. The salesman was very nice, but once he submitted the deal to the sales manager, the manager said they would not honor the quote because 2.9% is not available at that low of the price. I was shocked that they would not honor their own quote that was confirmed on two occasions. I felt the salesman was on our side and actually went into speak with the general manager for 15 minutes. He came back with a disgusted look on his face and was very apologetic that the manager would not honor the quote. I finally got the manager to come out and he had the nerve to actually say that the email quote never promised both! It took all that I had in me not to make a scene, but with my wife and 13 month old daughter there, I thought better of it. I told the manager that he best not dare go down that route. His exact words in a belligerent tone were, "Fine I won't, but you're not getting 2.9!" With that we walked out and will never return.

Apparently in this day in age some businesses do not think their word, integrity, or ethics mean anything.

Do not do business with these snakes. We spent 2 hours of our time there and 40 miles worth of gas with nothing to show but shock and disappointment.

Hi, Its lynwood honda in seattle . I talked to Eric cannon. But I got a better deal at moses lake another 100 off the price of seattle and the taxes are way low upto 400 difference between seattle and moses lake when u come to the outdoor price. so I got at moses lake and I talked to Rudy salazar from Discovery Honda. It was better for me to drive to Moses lake and get my Odyssey taking into consideration another 100 and taxes was 500 difference. Next to Moseslake I would recommend
Lynwood Honda from seattle..Other dealers in seattle werent even willing to negotiate and if they did they change the prices at the final point. I talked on the phone to all these people and had them fax me so that I have something in writing,
Once I get there, I didnt want any surprises.
  • satya589satya589 Member Posts: 6
U wouldnt that belive I talked to 10 dealers in northwest and they quote me a price and I tell them with financing . I ask them to fax it to write it in paper so that I dont have any surprises and have the manger or the head of that delaership sign it, then the sales guy comes back and quotes 1000 more than they already did. Except the higher authorities the sales people dont know abt the promotions, and they think its the same price. At first I thought the dealers were playing games , but when 10 dealerships did the same I realised except the higher authorities, the sales people really dont know what incentives the dealers have with n without
honda financing. Its very sad the sales people are not educated with the incentives
they have.So better I would recommend have them fax it and have the higher manager in that dealership sigh it before u go to the dealership. Then they would see the price at that point itself and we dont have to waste our time in the dealership.

Wait for a few more days ... the Month Promotion should be up by Aug-7
Plus every Sat the Week promotion is up online. Download it on PDF (link is at bottom of page) and zoom in to 150% studying the fine prints & stock No. then search for New Cars to see whether in inventory. Email the sales guy to confirm availabilty & hopefully ask the sale guy to email you to confirm all the figure, like Out-The-Door amount. Email is on record, can be printed in hardcopy when you came down to Boch. Better yet, no trade in, or you sell to carfax who can give you higher price. Don't think Boch will give you top dollar for your trade, besed on my experience.

More detail please. What's the tax rate?
In VA, I think it's only 3%. In NY, tax rate is 8.75Z%.. A very big different.

    satya589,

What did you pay for the EX-L in Moses Lake? Was it a cash deal or did it include some financing?
  • bohligbohlig Member Posts: 2
I'm interested in the Odyssey but am neutral regarding the model year. I want the entertainment system, but could either wait for a 2009, buy a 2008 or buy a used 2007.

I would expect that a used, low mileage, 2007 would be the best value. That being said the used market seems very choppy.

By best value I mean lowest overall cost of ownership over five years or so. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...

Used Hondas usually aren't very good buys... High resale will do that to a car..

Getting a new 2008 model, with the big incentives, is the probably the most cost effective over the long-term... You'll get full use of the standard 3yr, and the 5yr powertrain warranties..

New Odysseys are cheaper now than they were in 2001....

I am in Buffalo, NY. I went to dealer today. They offer me $24,096 + tax + state title. Is this a good deal?
  • mplshondadlrmplshondadlr Member Posts: 409
It depends on how and where you're driving. If you're doing hard starts and rapid stops in stop and go traffic, your fuel economy will suffer.

My wife gets about 27-28 mpg's on the highway and close to 20 in the stop and go traffic. We get on average about 375 miles per tank full (when the dummy light comes on).

"I am in Buffalo, NY. I went to dealer today. They offer me $24,096 + tax + state title. Is this a good deal?"

Obvoius you didn't feel it was a good deal, otherwise you would have bought it. Shoot for about $21K plus TT&L for cash purchase or $22K for the low rate APR purchase.
