    And it begins!

    Sunoco and Rising Sun and Longshore in NE Philly:

    RUG = $3.39 - up three cents in one day.
    Ultra = $3.69 -- up three cents in one day.

    Filled in Sikeston MO this morning for $3.19 a gallon. They let me use my Costco card that pays back 3%. Indiana, KY and most of the stations before that were over $3.70. Diesel still staying about $3.89 most stations.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Cheap. I filled the van up today for $3.79 and saw a couple of places that were $3.75. Most were $3.84 to $3.88 for regular.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
    Have been through a few smallish towns in SW WA - in each one diesel is ~10 cents cheaper than premium. Diesel is averaging around 3.95.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
    I filled today at Costco in Tucson $2.99 per gallon. Lowest price of the trip. Best mileage was straight cruise set at 75 MPH. The only slowdown was going through Las Cruces. That was from Alamogordo to Tucson. Total miles on the leg 349. Calculated out to 19.81 MPG. Using USA gasoline from Alamogordo. Temp was about 70 degrees. When it got in the 90s driving 75 MPH the mileage dropped back in the 16s.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Dang that's cheap. Did you enjoy the cruise through Las Cruces? Good Indian joint there but the service is slooooow.

    Gas here is running from $3.66 at Walmart to $3.88 in the sticks, with $3.75 being the most common.

    We drove through Las Cruces on US70 during 8AM rush hour. Lots of road construction going on. Single lane and 3 light cycle waits. I hate big cities and little cities that have traffic problems. Google routed us all the way through on 70 to the I 10. Still averaged 62 MPH from Alamogordo to Tucson Costco 349 miles. Thankfully most big cities like Tucson have Freeway bypasses. Drove 588 miles and spent the night at the Hampton in Yuma. ARCO gas $3,25 cash price. No CCs accepted. The other stations near the FWY were $3.49.

    Tucson has the best thrift stores but don't know if Hawaiian shirts are popular there. :)

    Didn't ARCO start taking credit cards in California a decade ago? I rarely used them on the road since I used to not carry much cash (but that'll change again since even the diners here started taking cards a few months ago).

    Filled up for $3.75 today. We'll be heading out about the time you get home.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
    ARCO in CA does not or has never taken CCs that I know of. They will take a Debit card with a small charge. The ARCO in Yuma took CCs last time I was through there. Not any more. Every other station along the way took AMEX which gives 3% on gas from non warehouse stations. No Sams or Safeway.

    We spent $1077 on gas for the 5400 mile trip. Cheapest airfare for both of us was $1300 plus. Add a rental car and you can see even with a gas guzzling SUV it is cheaper to drive than fly.

    Everywhere in Michigan, until you get close to Toledo. Then started seeing some 3.69 RUG.

    Boy, after we left the Toledo, gas went back up to the $3.85 range. Found some a couple of hours ago in W. VA for $3.69 and there's some for $3.49 in Keiser W. VA.

    Don't know the Washington area - haven't been on that stretch of I-75 south of Flint.
  • explorerx4explorerx4 Member Posts: 20,723
    Washington is on 53, but I'll be taking I-75 up to the Detroit area.
    Here in central CT RUG is in the 3.70-3.75 range.

    Saw Chevron regular today for $3.93 - diesel was $3.99. Nice spread. Premium was $4.23!
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
    The 4 cent bump lasted about 42 hours and we're back down to $3.35

    Ain't supply and demand wonderful? :shades:
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
    Just checked out local Chevron. Diesel is $3.79 and RUG is $3.99. Premium $4.19. I remember when I had the Passat TDI, it was fun having diesel selling for less than RUG. Knowing that RUG had to be at 30% more than diesel before it was a breakeven situation. You are getting to feel what all diesel owners feel when the prices swap places about this time of year.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Today's fill-up was $3.39 in northern Pennsylvania. Wasn't much cheaper in NJ. Did note one station had diesel for fifty cents more than regular.

    $3.76 to $3.89 seems to be the norm for unleaded in NY around Sleepy Hollow.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
    Sunoco at Longshore and Rising Sun in NE Philly:

    RUG = $3.51
    Plus = $3.71
    Ultra= $3.83
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
    Tuesday morning I filled up at $3.35. When I passed the same station 6 hours later, the price had bumped to $3.49. Wednesday morning it was down to $3.45. All this while it has been hanging at $3.39 at another station.

    I love a good mystery!

    Burrito sales got off to a bad start that day?

    Wasn't paying much attention to deals today so just got some regular for $3.86 as we were cruising around (got to see the cadets parade at West Point and went to FDR's house). Filled up at Cold Spring NY.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    #1 in the continental US anyway; only Hawaii's average prices are higher. Michigan is even beating out Alaska - the average is now $4.10.

    Locally it's $3.99 for regular.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
    How did you get ahead of CA? Our Costco is down to $3.73. Most stations in San Diego are selling diesel for $3.79. I hope that does not run the price up on the GLK bluetec I am looking at.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Something about refineries being shut down for summer driving season maintenance.

    That $3.99 may be way outdated - I think I just heard the radio say it popped to $4.19. Have to bike down in a bit and see.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Yep, $4.19 - nice little twenty cent jump overnight.

    I'm feeling pretty flush - both cars are more than half full. :shades:
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
    There is an 80 year old guy here that drives a blinged out Buick. He stops every day and gets $2 worth of gas at the Shell station. His brother says he don't want to die with a full tank of gas. :sick:
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Regular is holding at $4.19 a gallon.

    Diesel is $4.05 (it's been a while since I've checked on it, so I don't know if it's been trending up or down or staying flat).

    Couldn't check Premium - they were out.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
    Saw a Shell in the sprawl north of Seattle that had regular for $3.89, diesel for $3.91. Nice spread.
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
    $3.39 in yoyo valley
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Found some premium. $4.75.

    It's ethanol free stuff and the station is close to a marina, so I think there's a bit of supply and demand at work. :shades:

    Back up a dime to $3.49
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Ah hah - that explains it.

    Ours went down a dime to $4.09.

    The fancy ethanol free premium place dropped a quarter to $4.50.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
    ...fell slightly then plateaued:

    Sunoco at Rhawn and Verree in NE Philly:

    RUG = $3.43
    Ultra =$3.69
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
    Wait, wait... back down to $3.43 this morning

    Perhaps there's a short in the sign somewhere ;)
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Or maybe some hedge funders are shorting the price of oil. :D
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    I like these ten cent drops.

    $3.99 for regular.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
    Paid $3.89 for Chevron diesel today, $4.09 for Chevron premium.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
    Perfect timing for you jumping onto the diesel bandwagon. I hope to be close behind you.

    No regrets so far. Well, the payment is irksome as I didn't have one for years before - but that's life.

    Taking a few hundred mile drive this coming weekend, should be able to at least hit 40mpg again.
