Just would like some input before I make a purchase. Here is the price I am looking at right now. $22,775 for a LX and 25,607 for EX. This, of course, does not include TTL.

all of the above numbers are the car INCLUDING the 710 destination fee. They do not include TTL, so our OTD prices were higher, but we think its best to report the price of the car only since everyone's TTL will be different, and there's not really any "negotiating" you can do for that piece of it anyway......
FYI, This dealership is in South Jersey.
So based on sound advice I have four offers in front of me on the EX-L w/ Nav. & Res. 2010 Odyssey.
The best so far... she is offering $1200 off invoice, says we can choose any color they have on the lot. Doing all of this via email so it's in writing. Refreshing to not deal with any sales people! Another dealer sent invoice pricing...Here are my questions:
1) Is invoice pricing standard?
2) One posting said he was able to get $2,000 below invoice, we're only at $1,200 below invoice, shall we ask for more off and hold out?
3) All the dealers are using the $1,200 cash incentive as a carrot to buy with the deadline on Sunday (they say car has to be purchased and off the lot). We're leaving tomorrow to go out of town thru Sunday (a real pain!)
4) As the year goes on has anyone had experience or seen even better incentives? (don't need the van until June 2010)

TTL from what I know is following :
Tax = 7% for NJ
Title/Doc = Documentation ( average $250 )
Licencng = Registration & plate ( I think new car ~$350 , transfer old plates ~$120)
My Dealer didnot answer clearly as to when new is expected.
Actually I am not in hurry to buy and can wait some time but am eager to know if any more info abt 2011 model is available.
BTW.. I read somewhere the Concept released for Odyssey would be similar to production version. If at all there is some truth in that, looks nice tome.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm in the dilemma whether to pull the trigger on 2010, or wait for 2011. With the current offer, 2010 EX will be about 26,000 including destination fee. This is over 2K below the invoice. I'm not sure how much lower I can get with 2011. I'm thinking that the price will be in between MSRP and Invoice.
Do you have any insight of how the pricing of the new model for Honda?

$28,400 includes destination fee and $1,250 incentive, you can add TTL for the OTD number. We didn’t get any additional items, wheel locks, carpet mats, you name it, and we didn’t get. Just the plain base EX-L.
With hindsight, I might be able to get the deal ~$200 less, and might be able to handle the dealers a little more smoothly.
I appreciate all the great posts here, they really helped me a lot for my purchasing. As a matter of fact, my biggest mistakes can be blamed on NOT browsing more through all helpful posts here. The following is a rather long and detailed post, because I’d like to be informative and helpful just like the prior posts are to me.
- Minivan Search - Initially, we were more interested in an AWD Sienna, but changed our mind because of recent Toyota safety issues and the complaints on run-flat tires (standard for an AWD Sienna). After ~2 weeks of research and debate, we convinced ourselves FWD is good enough. Furthermore, we decided to use third-party portable DVD player and GPS.
- Negotiation - I notice the great Hogan Method for negotiation:

However, I can’t perform every one of his steps very well. May I introduce Option A at the end of the great Hogan Method as:
“Option A: If you are not as skilled and energized as Hogan is, browse a car purchasing forum like this one, and get the up-to-date number of great deal for the model you are looking for.”
My up-to-date number of a great deal, after extensive browsing, is $28,200 + TTL for Odyssey EX-L (no RES, no NAV).
I called 3 dealers and they quoted (+ TTL numbers): $29,300, $29,900, and $29,050. I made an offer of $28,000 over the phone to the third dealer, and he flatly rejected and said goodbye to me without even gave me his name.
On Saturday night, I offered $28,200 to the first dealer. Sunday morning one Sales Manager called and after ~30 min. on the phone, we reached a deal of $28,400! Only that they wanted me to make the purchase the same day.
However, I am TOTALLY unprepared for the next steps: (1) I didn’t get my checking account prepared for enough funding; (2) My banks are posting APR 3.3% for car loans, but I didn’t get pre-approved; and (3) I knew nothing about extended warranty, which the dealer pushed for a sale.
And for sure, here comes problems:
- Signing at the Financial Dept. - We got to the dealership late Sunday night (can I spell MISTAKE?), so everybody was in a rush. We filled out the car loan application and got 4.9% APR. Because this is the “same-day” deal they didn’t allow me to shop around for a better rate during following days. I can put down cash, or take their loan, or simply walk away. They tried to explain to me they were selling for a lost, and the only way they can get back is to sign the deal the same day, bill to Honda, and get one more car moving. I said I have no interest of how they run business (MISTAKE again: rude to people on the other side of the table).
I scrambled quick calculations in my head and decided to put down a portion in cash and get the rest at 4.9%. But my funds were scattered around several bank accounts, so I have to asking the guy not to cash my check for another 4 days. For which the Assistant Financial Director said “the longest time I can hold is 7 days”.
At the same time he was selling me a $1,774 “extended warranty” for 6 years / 100k miles. He claimed it’s from Honda and can ONLY be bought at the time of new car purchasing, and can be cancelled at any time. Although it sounded a little strange, we didn’t even ask for any documentation and just signed all the paperwork.
- Cancel CostGuard - When we finally got home that night, I found out the extended warranty is called CostGuard. Although they claim it is accepted in any Honda dealership, it has nothing to do with Honda. Furthermore, Honda Care can be bought within the original 3 years / 36k miles warranty period and I got a quote for $1,095 for 6 years / 100k miles. And I did a quick check on this forum again, some people did prefer Honda Care. I immediately sent out a complaining email to the [non-permissible content removed]. Fin. Dir. (c.c.’ed the Sales Mgr.), said I would cancel the whole deal if he didn’t cancel CostGuard immediately.
Monday morning, I made several phone calls. The [non-permissible content removed]. Fin. Dir. agreed to let me fill out the cancellation form. That night, we went to the dealership again, but were told the [non-permissible content removed]. Fin. Dir. was busy, and were led to a Business Manager’s office. He started to asked questions like “why do you want to cancel” and I said I don’t want to talk about details just want to cancel and get full refund (one more MISTAKE of being rude myself). Then he pulled out a brochure (which we were never shown before) and pointed to a $35 non-refundable administration fee. Almost out of no where we started a dispute (remember, this particular Bus. Mgr. hadn’t been involved in any of our negotiation and signing). It ended up with he saying “You raised you voice in my office! Go out sit on the floor!” and we saying “Get your manager here, NOW!” And the Business Manager took us to the office of Financial Director. On our way out he even reminded me the correct spelling of his name!
The Fin. Dir. spoke in a very calm and low tone, and we quickly told him we appreciate his help. He promised to void the $35 fee, finished the cancellation form and we all signed on it.
What an experience! I told the Fin. Dir. that we were spending $30k yet got angry. With everyone else tried very hard to make a deal, that Bus. Mgr. effectively threatened us to try to canceled the deal, but why?
- Pick up - Thank God my banks act swiftly and we picked up the van Wed. night, very smoothly. I guess everything have already been said and done.
- Afterthoughts - We are still thinking about the Honda Care and for sure won’t buy it from the same dealer. We will also get maintenance done at a Honda dealer for the first several years, but won’t be at the same dealer either.
My lesson learned is that you have to get informed and prepared the best way you can. Any single unprepared item will be poked and abused by the dealer. I don’t want to blame them too much, because it’s their job. And everybody has to make money, don’t we?

Will say that some of the dealers we quoted had not heard of the $1250 dealer cash and had to research it b/f including it in the quote.

I realize I am perhaps cynical, but I would bet that its more that the dealers didn't VOLUNTEER this info to you. If they can get a mope walking in off the street who has no idea, and they can sell them a car for $1000 discount off sticker, you KNOW they will do that and pocket the $1250 in addition to their other profit. So they threw a quote out to you that was high, and then when you said "what about the dealer cash" they played dumb rather than saying that they of course knew about it but just didn't offer it up to you initially.
You'll notice there aren't big banners across the storefront saying "1250 cash back"......this is "dealer cash" so I guess to be fair, its really up to the dealer whether they want to pass through that rebate to make a sale. Of course many will in order to keep up volumes, and that is the whole point of the incentive, but I have a very hard time believing that the dealer "didn't know" about a major incentive like this.......

By the way, be sure to check out the warranty prices paid thread if you are thinking about the HondaCare warranty. There are some great dealers to contact for quotes. Saved us a TON on the extended warranty!!

Since many people seem to ignore the fact that its easier for everyone if they just post the price of the CAR and not the OTD price, then we have this confusion. :confuse: Yet more than 1/2 the time someone jumps on the board saying "hey all - 32,456 OTD is this a good price?" like we have any idea where they live, what their tax rates are, etc.
To me, the only important piece of info is the price of the CAR because that is all I can negotiate/control. Taxes are what they are.....I can't tell the salesman "unless you cut the tax rate to 5% from 8%, I'm walking....." - he'd rightly think I'm an idiot.
I'll say it again - if we want the most useful database of info that isn't confusing to everyone who comes in here looking for quick info, then please post the CAR PRICE and not the OTD price. I know OTD is what your wallet cares about, but its confusing.......
Finance initially they said 1.9 APR but next day they raised the price to 2.99 % APR since there was a discount so i can't take 1.9 APR . any one is lower than this rate of 30,550 ( OTD ) for EX - L

Hello, we got our 09 Odyssey EX at OTD price $25,200 last weekend (tax rate 6.75%), financing 2.9% for 36 months. 9 miles when we test drive it. the price should be fair, but we forgot to ask for some freebies like, mud guard, wheel lock...

The base price is $31455 for EX-L, RES NAV. Plus Freight, Processing fee and TTL: OTD is $33400. I missed another quote when I deal with Herson's Honda. Criswell Honda called and e-mailed me the cheaper price $33300 OTD. But they only had slate green and polished metal color.
Anyway, our family love it and we are going to enjoy it this weekend.
