    petrol prices dropped down to $3.35 for 87 octane. Stations with E85 seem to have regular @ $3.53 so that E85 costs $2.53. Didn't notice the diesel prices. We have been dropping roughly 5 ~ 10 cents a week for the past few weeks. A nice reprieve for the time being. Seems the people like it or that they are getting a "bargain" as noticing most folks are driving faster than usual.

    Gagrice, hate to see fuel prices that high, won't be visiting CA for awhile I guess.

    I was down in Alvin today (about 30 miles south of Houston). For some reason, they seem to have perpetual gas wars down that way. I saw regular unleaded at 2.99, 2.96, and 2.84. Premium was running 50 to 80 cents higher per gallon.

    Pretty good prices. But that's a huge spread between the differing premium prices and from regular to premium. Haven't been in that part of the country for a couple years.

    Took a weekend trip to Indy and prices ranged from $3.45 down to $3.19 in Dayton, IN. Indianapolis had prices in the $3.19 ~ $3.25 range. Diesel was in the $3.81 range, unless you paid cash then it was $3.75. Saw E85 for $2.85

    Regular is now $3.59; diesel is holding at $3.99.

    I last filled up the Outback in April so it's getting to be about time. Maybe I can hold out for another nickel off.

    Are you using Stabil or some other gas preservative in that thing? Six months is a long time for gasoline to sit around.

    No, and yes it is.

    It amazes me when I read about guys who get a fresh battery and stick it in a car that's been sitting for several years, and they crank right up. Some of those are old carb jobs. I'll probably wind up replacing the tank....

    It does get driven a little now and then so maybe that helps. And as soon as I put some stabilizer in the tank, the van would die and I'd be miling it up.

    In gas news, there's a BP 15 or 20 minutes away with regular for $3.46. What's odd is that they want $4.24 for diesel. Can't figure that one out, since RUG here is holding at $3.59 and diesel $3.99. Busier highway too.

    I don't remember the problem being as bad until they mandated Ethanol. Especially in gas powered yard tools like weed eaters. I scrapped my gas chain saw and have a great heavy duty electric chain saw. Cuts great through hard oak and eucalyptus. My Sequoia sat a lot in the Garage. The battery draining was the biggest problem. Don't recall any real change in mileage after it would sit for a couple months. The Lexus sits even longer. Not sure if Premium has the same issues as RUG.

    You'd think the ethanol would help since it's a solvent (and we don't have fiberglass gas tanks).

    It's fun to read up on Stabil and see what people think the secret ingredient is that the MSDS doesn't tell you. (This is one possibility).

    Got you onboard the electric yard tool express eh? The electric chain saws work good. I've done a bunch of those trash Trees of Heaven at my sister's house in Virginia over the years with hers.

    Kind of a pain stringing a long cord out where my log pile is. Not as much of a pain as pulling on that stupid cord to start after sitting a year. I bought a Poulan Pro 400 18 inch. What a great saw. Wanted to get one for my son in Indiana. And they don't make it anymore. The new Poulans get poor reviews.
    Hopefully someone comes out with a good replacement. Most of the reviews are not so good with the plastic gears in the Cheapo China saws.

    Had to drive the Olds today due to the truck's alternator giving up the ghost last night, after I filled it up for $3.18 early-early morning. Figured the price would stay roughly the same mid- / late-week so planned to drive the Olds anyway. Nope, same station today, and all others, jumped to $3.50. And with the Olds close to empty, another nice cha-ching for the station.

    :) that the truck got me home from the memorial service, other stops around in SW Chi-town

    RUG is under 3.60 and and premium is closer to 3.90 then 4.00.

    I filled my Touareg yesterday at Shell for $3.51. Best diesel price on the trip. RUG was $3.15 there and most of the other stations around here. This morning I went by as they were changing the prices. RUG is now $3.39. Something happened to raise it that much. They did not have the price changed on diesel so don't know what it will be.

    The rather famous Native-owned station around here reportedly is at $3.05. Other places around the UP are reporting $3.25 for regular. The local shops have dropped seven cents to $3.46.

    Local Chevron had PUG collapsing down to 3.69, diesel holding at 4.09.

    And as a bonus, my card was apparently skimmed - 2 hours later, got an email from Amex about a suspicious $500 charge. Fun!

    Just filled up the Touareg for the last 500 mile stretch home. Highest price for diesel $3.79, lowest $3.51 in Indiana of all places. Interesting fact is Indiana has second highest tax on diesel in the USA. The Shell station in Boonville with the lowest price did not have it up on the marquee. PUG 93 octane was $3.63.

    The cheap gas place is only down to $3.20 (as is every other place in that area). Didn't need any gas anyway. Cheapest diesel spotted was $3.79. We're in Marquette this week and $3.33 seems to be the norm.

    Over the last two days hitting KY, TN, MO, AR, TX & NM I saw lots of stations under $3 for RUG. Lowest was $2.90. PUG did not follow the usual 20 cent difference. Most places had diesel $2.79. I don't use truck stops. Dirty nozzles and higher price for CC. Not to mention all the spilled diesel. I prefer Shell and Chevron. Rough figures even with the high price of diesel this trip was a little longer than the Spring trip in the Sequoia and we saved at least $450 on fuel.

    Yes $3.79. Wishful thinking. Headed home. Only taking 4 days back. 5 days getting there. Love driving the VW. Except a turkey vulture flew in front of me going 70+ MPH and broke the grille. He flew over the top and bounced down the highway in front of a Semi. No chance he made it. I always worry about hitting a deer. Never think about a stupid vulture flying into my path. Probably why so many are killed by wind mills.

    It was fancy Nordstrom gas, so probably only 100 gallons ;)

    Happened just a couple hours after I used the card at the station, I suspect the skimmer was there.

    Past week prices in my burb have ranged from $3.16 - $3.79 depending on location / station; the wild swing was due to refinery explosion but took a few days to hit out by me and the usual stations right by the x-press and tollways, and 2 days of weather in the 50s so spike in price.

    Was in parts of Indiana last week and they petrol prices were similar to IL, mostly in the $3.17 ~ $3.35 range, again depending on how close you were to I-65.

    Was in Detroit & Madison Heights, MI and prices ranged from $3.35 to $3.39.

    All are for RUG, didn't pay attention to Diesel though the Speedway by the job has had E85 for $2.55 for the past 3 weeks, with a couple of dips to $2.25

    This Shell station in Boonville Indiana held the price of diesel down nicely for our time in the state. $3.51 was the cheapest diesel of the trip. Filled once there and topped off day before we left. That price held even though the price of RUG/PUG jumped.

    Nice, I filled up today for $3.28. Still cost more than $50 to fill the tank. My last tank was the one with the bad injector and we only got 300 miles on the tank before the low fuel light came on.

    I'm seeing $3.67 for RUG, $3.83 for PUG and $4.21 for diesel in northern California.

    So to fill up that Porsche Cayenne diesel figure about $112.

    So far I have not paid over $4 per gallon. An even better indicator is my cost per mile over the first 6500 miles @ 14.1 cents. For the 6 years I owned the Sequoia the cost was 21.5 cents per mile. That included a lot of $2 gas for the Sequoia. At today's gas prices the Sequoia is running close to 25 cents per mile. Or 44% more to run. Not to mention the 5k mile synthetic oil changes vs free service every 10k miles on the Touareg.

    My best friend just got called out of retirement from last year to go back and work 3 months in Prudhoe Bay. He just sent some pictures. I don't care if I ever see the Arctic again. Notice RUG is only 4 cents cheaper than #1 diesel.

    yep, if you switch from a gasoline gas hog to a thrifty diesel, you can save a lot of $$$. But if you switch from a thrifty gas vehicle to a thrifty diesel, it's more difficult to justify the savings as "substantial".

    Oh I guess the Highlander Hybrid or the Lexus RX 450H? Wouldn't tow as much though I'd guess. But they are lux.

    Not only are they towing wimps they are not recommended off road. I am just not a ToyLex fan. Drove the RX350h when we bought the Sequoia. Not impressed at all. Not close to the same league as the German diesel offerings. And the RX requires Premium. No thanks.

    There's been a couple of recent posts noting that the "typical" twenty cent price difference between RUG and PUG has been widening more than most of us are used to. Anyone else seeing this trend?
