Has some one recently bought a Odyssey Touring elite? What would be a good price?

It's because the Honda Odyssey is produced and engineered in United States. Since 1999, the Odyssey has always been Honda's least-reliable car model. Honda's USA quality (meaning Honda cars produced in North America) is DIFFERENT to Honda's Japan quality, despite how many people will tell you or deny this claim, and I have many valid proofs to back it up. To sum it up quick, Honda built LESS-reliable cars than Toyota in North America, while Honda built MORE-reliable cars than Toyota in Japan, based on the 40-year average trend since 1970 provided by Consumer Reports and other reliable sources. When the Odyssey was first released in 1995, and manufactured in Japan through 1998, it scored the HIGHEST in reliability of all any cars and trucks from all makes, and it was very extreme and overrated at that time. NONE of the new cars made today for the past 13-16 years can match the high reliability rating score with the 1995-1998 Honda Odyssey. When the Odyssey transferred production to North America in 1999, reliability sank by more than 70%, and it still continues to be at that range today. The Odyssey used to be Honda's most reliable car model, and it's now the least reliable Honda model.

And to make it even more embarrassing and to further valid my proof, Honda Accord is now the LEAST reliable Japanese-brand family-sized sedan you can buy, according to Consumer Reports, when it used to be the MOST reliable, #1 Japanese sedan every year during the 1980s to the mid-1990s (10 straight consecutive years, 1983-1993). For the first time in 40 years of history, Mazda's own family-sized sedan (Mazda 6) is rated more reliable than Honda Accord. All SIX other Japanese automakers, including the small Suzuki company, have already beat or swallowed up Honda's previous #1 reliability rating with the Accord (I didn't know it would be that easy). How sad...

Toyota Sienna is MUCH MORE reliable than Honda Odyssey, and has always been like that since 1999, since Toyota builds MORE reliable cars than Honda in North America.

Something is very wrong with the quality control at Honda America auto plants right now.

Finally got my new Odyssey EX-L with Res, I drove 100 miles to Bobby Rahal honda and saved $1200. The deal went so smooth. The people I met were very nice; I declined all the options except remote eng start.

The best written offer I got from criswell and hersons was almost 1200 more. I don't think any local dealer can beat this. Don’t waste your time dealing with MD and VA dealers, just drive to Bobby Rahal Honda.

Price with all the discounts was $32650. Final OTD with remote start option + MD tax + tags +doc fee is $35854.60. I got .9% APR from honda finance.

I would like to thank the sales person for this wonderful deal, she took care of most of the credit application online and I was in and out of the dealership in 1hr.

Just a suggestion...read up on all the tranmssions issues with the ODY both past and present on the ODY Facebook page..unbelievable. There are so many problems with the transmission on this van and it is rated as below average. Do your research on google and type in ODY transmission problems or issues. Hundreds and thousands of posts. Follow this as well...very insightful...http://www.courthousenews.com/2011/11/09/Honda.pdf

    mullied,

Don't even think about buying this ODY. The transmission has failed or is about to fail and you will get stuck paying a $5000 bill to repair. Go to google and type in Ody transmission problems/issues. I had a 2001 with 68000 miles and the tranny failed, the engine mounts were broke, etc. Will never buy Honda again.

If you read up the history of Donethat_1, you will see he has posted 10 recent postings in the last few days and all of them are on Ody transmission problems from years ago. Either he is a novice when it comes to forums or his is a deliberate attempt to put false impression out to possibly direct sales to one of honda's competitor.

I went back in and they were eager for me to resign identical paperwork with a date change from nov 28 to dec 1 so that they could collect their $750 from HOnda Finance that had already been applied to my deal. I told them I wasn't comfortable with this arrangement. I said I might consider if they either a) comp'ed my roof rack/rails or b) sold me an 8 year hondacare EW for $700.

The GM was pissed at the sales crew and decided to eat the $750 on the dealer's end and I didn't get either or my request. Fascinating business practices at these places.....
  • donethat_1donethat_1 Member Posts: 66
My BAD. I did not see the date. However, I will say this, I have read several articles on the ODY and they typcially are not favorable. Like you, I thought Honda was a great product. Not any more. There was a class action lawsuit for models from 1999-2004. There is another one right now for models years 2005-2009 (State of CA). http://classactionlawsuitsinthenews.com/class-action-lawsuit-complaints/honda-od- yssey-torque-converter-class-action-lawsuit-complaint/

Perhaps you want to get in on it. The 2011 is rated below average and Honda is still having issues and now is asking some owners to sign a waiver. Be sure to read the other 2 forums here on the ODY and the facebook page as well. good stuff! Very educational. Not a novice at all, just well-informed and open to the idea that Honda is not who they think they are.

I've had four Odysseys since 2001. Besides oil changes, wiper blades and tire rotations, I never put a dime into any of them. The only issue I ever had was with the run-flat tires (PAX system). Even then, I simply traded in the vans when the tires wore out. The resale value was so good that my total cost was less than $400 per month on Touring models.

I finally succumbed to to my wife's begging me to buy her an SUV in '09. She claimed the van made her like a soccer Mom (of course, she WAS/IS a soccer Mom, but telling her that only made it worse). After a year in the Mazda CX-9 she was begging me for another Ody. Out of due diligence I took her to see the Sienna today. She said: "No way you're making me drive that bus!" We'll probably have the Touring Elite by Christmas...(with its new 6-speed tranny).

Just bought a 2012 touring elite in white. New to minivans but had to man up now that I have 3 kids (all under 4).

Paid 39450 before tax and tags, took the 1.9 financing too since its so cheap.

Didn't bother test driving the Sienna or quest or cuvs. Toughest 40k I've ever spent although the kids feel like they won the lottery. Have a feeling a 3 series is in my future to balance out the van.
  • duplexdianneduplexdianne Member Posts: 20
Where did you buy your Elite from? That is the best price I've seen so far--congrats! Any forced dealer add-ons?
  • tastycakes55tastycakes55 Member Posts: 35
I purchased mine from Brown Honda in Glen Burnie MD, but every dealership offered a price +- $200 of what I paid in Maryland. I paid a bit more than the lowest offer I received but Brown is en route to my office so I chose to buy there for convenience of servicing.

No forced add ons. They threw in all weather mats, wheel locks and the roof rails which were already installed into the price I paid.

I was surprised the pricing was this good for 2012 MY. Initially I had started looking for 2011 Touring Elites, but the dealerships seemed less willing to budge on those than 2012s.

    Go figure.

You won't regret buying the Odyssey. IMO it's the best family vehicle on the planet. It does everything you could ask (except for off-roading. but I haven't tried that yet). It's outstanding at everything from family vacations, sports events, Home Depot runs, and cross country moves. Best of all, the handling and performance are good enough that you won't ever miss your bigger, heavier, floatier, gas-guzzling, SUV. I thought a good CUV could beat it, but I was absolutely wrong...

I am a Honda Girl. This will be my 4th ('86 Accord, '95 Integra, '02 MDX). However I am a bit concerned about the transmission issues a lot of people are having. We had the fix done right after the recall notice went out and haven't had any issues whatsoever with our transmission. But in the back of my mind I have to wonder...tick tick tick..

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and time, wealth of information to empower a prospective buyer. I am scouring the posts to arm myself with the knowledge to buy a family van. Like many I am drawn to Ody for its refined features and Honda's name. Then I read about Ody's horrible transmission problems (judder, vibration, premature failure, etc) even with 2011 models and the suffering of owners because of Honda's refusal to acknowledge and help its customers.

I like the van for many great features it offers but reading the posts of frustrated owners who paid a lot of money for a van that is supposed to last but are dismayed by the transmission reliability & quality of drive even at 10k miles, I decided to stop. With not a great alternative, I am trying to understand if the transmission issues continue with 2012 models or if there is a redesign of the transmission for 2012. But it may be too early to know of 2012 issues. Thinking to risk this issue and buy for all the greatness of this van, but dread to deal with the service visits for a problem that cannot be permanently fixed with the band-aid solutions (allegedly what Honda does if at all it does anything). Please share your views on the transmission issues specially those who are considering to by a 2012 model. :confuse:

All those things may be true but I will never love the Odyssey. Same for the wife. I don't think it is a fun drive; it actually reminds me of driving a crown Vic.

But that is an age old argument about minivans.

If the new Infiniti jx is all its cracked up to be it may completely disrupt the minivan market.
I feel the only reason we bought our Odyssey was for the sliding doors, trunk size behind 3rd row, and ease of access to the third row.

If another car did those last two as well as a minivan we would have bought it in a heartbeat, even if it cost 10-15k more.

For now, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, I'm a reluctant minivan owner.

$33,000 included all fees except taxes and tags. 60/mo. @ .09
    I got their last 2011
Arlington, VA "Angel" took care of us. He gave us a price in writing first time I talked to him. I tried to match with a few other dealers but no one could beat it or would only match. I did not shop too much so I am not sure if was a good deal but I am happy. Paper work only took 15min. Van was clean and ready when we showed up. We got a few extras for free like door guards, cargo liner, wheel locks.
He would have done $34K on a 2012 but I did not care what year model because there is no difference between the years.

I bought 2012 Honda Odyssey EX-L from Planet Honda on Rt 22 in NJ for 34K. I could have little better on my trade, but that fine. After trade I paid 29760 OTD. No dealer added options.

No pressure from sales person or manager etc. It was a smooth experience. I do give them five star rating based on my experience.
  • donethat_1donethat_1 Member Posts: 66
Try holding on to the van a little longer each time and see what you get. I am sure that if I were to buy 4 ODY's in 10 years I would not have any issues either. I don't coinsider a car to be an investment and do not enjoy buying cars period. I bought the Honda thinking it would last for many years and miles.

I did not put a dime into mine either unit the tranny went out at 68000 miles. The engine mounts were broken and the manual doors stuck all of the time and it was extremely noisy. Toyota is a beautiful thing.
  • vinnynyvinnyny Member Posts: 764
Good point. I haven't really owned any of them long enough to have transmission problems, but I haven't had any other problems either. When I drive a car 40,000 miles and have zero issues (except for the idiotic PAX tires) and I have that experience repeatedly, then I figure it's a good car. Anecdotal evidence? Yup. Do I recommend it to friends and family? Yup. Will I buy another? Yup...any day now.

Has anyone heard of "new" incentives from Honda? I know about the $750 factory-to-dealer cash and 1.9%/60 month financing, but my dealer called to say that new incentives had been announced. I'm guessing it's his way to save face while lowering his "absolute bottom line price", but it could be legitimate...

We just bought a Honda Odyssey 2012 EX-L (no RES, no NAVI) with splash guards for $31,300 (including destination charge) in Honda of Lisle, IL. OTD price was $31,300 plus 7.25% IL Lake County tax, $120 license transfer fee, $25 electronic filing fee and $156.08 documentary fee.

Overall experience was very smooth. I've collected internet quotes from all Chicagoland dealers and this dealer beat the lowest quote by a couple hundred dollars.

    All,

I have received an internet quote for an EX-L in NC for 32,200 + TTL. What do you guys think? Is there any further room to negotiate beyond this or should I just jump at this?

    thanks,

Just leased a Touring Elite in NJ - $1000 down and $579 per month for 36 months 12,000 miles per year. Not a great deal but a reasonable one.

Any tips on getting this good price? We just test drove an Odyssey today and are looking to buy within a few days. We are in MN.

Thanks to all who post such useful info on this site. Have used it for last three leased cars and it's been invaluable. Hopefully my post can help others.

Will finalize lease paperwork today on 2012 EXL-Nav (Topaz/Truffle) with following details.

Negotiated selling price including destination of $34,350 (approx $150 over dealer invoice). Clearly not the best deal posted here but I'm satisfied.

    36 mo with 15k/yr for $495/mo including sales tax - 7.375%

Due at signing - 1st mo / DMV / and Doc fee of $179

Would have tried to negotiate on Doc fee but did not want to budge and they beat next best offer by approx $400 on price - also deal fatigue :)

Be careful with all dealers and have all numbers confirmed before agreeing to leave a deposit or visiting the dealership - dealt with five or six dealers (some unscrupulous) via email/phone. Several times I presented my offer (selling price) to have them come back and accept, only to find out the monthly payment was not consistent with what it should be. When I decided to approach from a monthly payment perspective, they agreed the amount but when I confirmed all elements, they said they did not hear me say "taxes included". Ultimately came to agreement with this dealership.

Lastly, based Edmunds forum discussions, I took a ride to Carmax with my 2009 Lexus RX350 (lease expires this month) and they offered $1,200 over the payoff amt. The car also has two tires that I might have been charged for at turn in. It was a very pleasant experience - guess when you have nothing to lose and you end up coming out on top, it's easy to feel that way.

I think you should be paying atleast $500 less.. not more than $31500

that's a great deal!! I ended up paying $40,900 for my Touring Elite in Denver CO. Used an auto broker, Rachel from Centennial Auto Leasing and Sales. I think she could have done a little better but I had a buyer for my '06 and after 3 power steering pumps and painful wrist disabilities, I wanted out of the '06 and the 2012 was much easier for me to drive. All of the voice activated accessories is a huge benefit since I can only drive with one hand now.

I also needed the blind spot indicator. Hated to pay extra for that but memory seats weren't an option on the Touring. Funny how they get you that way.

    Hello, forum
What would be a fair price for 2012 EX-L in central FL area? Is the $750 incentive available in this region?
    Thanks!

Looking for references to purchase Floor Mats for Odyssey EX-L. Dealer was looking to quote about 225 for 3 rows and about 100+ (do not remember precisely) for Cargo and mats to cover seats folded down.

BTW, I got my EX-L for about 32,350 (Mud Flaps Thrown in) + 599 Doc Fee (probably got taken there) for a total OTD price of 34000. Comments?
  • hirenmhirenm Member Posts: 7
You are not too over Invoice+Destination, so its not a bad deal at all. What made you think memory seats are not an option in Touring model? Memory seats/mirrors are standard . Elite has HID Lights, BSI, better audio system and wider RES, however I did not want to pay an extra 2-3k for those, after already paying 40K out of the door!!

Funny how the car prices go from 25k to 40K once you start adding options.

Try Bernardi Auto Parts, they sell All Season Floor Mats for around $145 + $15 shipping and you can search for a 5% coupon on the internet.

I've collected internet quotes from almost all dealers in Chicagoland (I had 11 quotes), then I went to the dealer with the second lowest quote and told him I'd buy from them if they beat the lowest. But you need to know the market. If all dealers in your area are giving you about the same price then that's what it is and you probably won't be able to get a better one.

In Chicagoland the spread was pretty big - the highest quote was $33400, the lowest was $31353 (including destination) and there were 3 quotes below $32000. So it felt like something around $31400 was realistic. Truecar's average was around $32400.

    Good luck!

In both PA & NC, I got firm quotes for a 2012 EX-L w/nav for 34,075 & $199 paperwork, including shipping. No other hidden costs. The only reason I didn't buy was my 2008 Toyota Sienna LE needed some dent work and they would only offer me $14,000 on a trade. My wife wants me to wait until the spring. Repairs to Sienna complete and will sell it myself.

$34,075 + $199 paperwork, is that Out the Door price including tax and tag transfer and all that ? if it is then that's great deal. hey would you please forward me the dealer info (specially for NC one). that would be great help
    thanks again.

Hi, would you mind letting me know which dealer you ended up with and whether your EX-L has RES or NAV, as well as any other features (i.e. floor mats, mud guards, etc.) for that $31353 price? I am in the Chicago area and looking to purchase in the next week. If the dealer has a referral program (one of them offered a $200 referral fee in their internet quote), I'd be happy to use your name so you get the $.

    Thanks!
