Check out post 3749 by dad16. He got his EX-L at $609 above invoice at Dublin Honda, which per my calculation is $26,620.

My wife's co worker got his Saturday at the same place I got mine last month (at a much higher price, I might add, this being the "savvy" Edmunds buyer) at Anderson Honda. His price is $26,688 and they delivered for free to his house like they delivered to my house.

Since it's against Edmunds policy, I can't provide any links or phone numbers, but you can look into the Honda or yahoo web sites for these places. Try the internet department and see what you can get from either one.

Capitol Honda is south San Jose has pretty low prices also as Hexn bought from them last month. I believe staff Sylvia on the Edmunds board bought hers at El Cerrito Honda and she got a low price as well.

just make sure you arrange for your salesman to pick you up for free at either Oakland or San Jose airport (depends on which ever one has sales to/from Portland airport).

    Good luck.

I have been researching an EX-L w/DVD entertainment for about 1.5 months with dealers within 50 miles. Did the usual email quotes, visited dealerships and called. Best deal I could get, for the color I want, is $500 off MSRP. I am ready to buy in the next 2 weeks.

I read the posts and am floored that people are getting $1K-$2K off. I am not afraid to deal but the dealers that I am referring to all say they do not deal on Odyssey. In fact, to a dealer, they say if I find an Odyssey at a discount, that I should grab it. I even bring out the "2004 Sienna" card. No reaction.

I'm not an inexperienced car buyer. Please tell me that I am not the only one in NJ NOT getting a bigger discount!!

You must be new to this forum as I don't recognize your screen name as Chemistry and I are not pals (probably because I can't even spell it correctly - thank goodness for cut and paste).

Welcome. As a new visitor of this forum, the rule (what rule?) is that you must be willing to buy everyone a $1.99 conversation mirrors before we will point you to the best shopping places in NJ/NY area (just kidding).

You're in Lapvn (Norman) country. He will take good care of you. He may be on his way home, so you may not get an answer until tomorrow....

Just a quick background. Midwest/South tends to have the lowest prices on Odys. Expect to get at least $2K off in Ohio or in Texas. But sounds like SF bay area is not that far behind at $2200 off.

Someone just got $2 above invoice over the weekend in Chicago area (post 3824 got deleted because he mentioned the salesman's name?) Which means to me they got $2800 off. Hislander says he got an offer in Texas for $3K off, but it's not a confirmed/signed deal, so we'll see on that one.

the largets dealer, volume wise, is Capitol Honda in San Jose. I have no idea how they are pricing at this time, but they do have a "fleet" sales or internet sales rep that will quote you over the phone. There's another dealer in Sunnyvale with decent volume - not sure who's out near Oakland.

THREE YEARS AND WE FINALLY DID IT! I still cannot believe this... The was the easiest car purchase I had ever done. Carr's Honda in Chicago had an advertisement in the Chicago Tribune for 2003 EXL-RESs for $27361 - Invoice is $27359 (Including dest). I was sure this was one of those "Only THAT vehicle" deals, but decided to check it out anyway. Lo and behold, they had a 2003 EXL Midnight Pearl Blue with RES (along with Red, sandstone, and a bunch of others for INVOICE + $2!). The selling price was not an issue - just the trade. It took a while to get to the finance man. He did not like the fact that I knew where to buy the 7/100/$0 HondaCare for $910. Then he flat out refused to take a sight draft as payment. So... he had us by the seeds to go through his financing with American Honda. The rate was 4.95% - my deal was 4.59% with free upside down coverage. Ends up being $300 more over the life of the loan. If I want to be a jerk about it, I will refinance it. It really did not matter... As we were doing the final walkthrough, I found a small scratch in the bumper from having the vehicles too close to one another. Since I was going out of state, they offered me $300 to have it buffed out when I get home. Not a problem - the scratch is right where I hit it with my suitcase this morning.

Nonetheless, we are done - the salesman did an excellent job - his survey will reflect. I still don't "feel" like I bought a car.

Big thanks to all those over the years who have contributed to this board. I have learned a TON of great info. My next stop is HandA for a few simple accessories.

    Enjoy All!

Used a name - got waxed... I will follow the rules:

    HondaCare 7/100/$0 - $910 - Alton Blakely Honda (KY)
Ask for a "finance" person - they should set you up...

From what I read at another location, this is $50 above cost - Here is a snippet from that post:

    7 yr / 100k - $900
    7 yr / 75k - $675
    6 yr / 100k - $765
    6 yr / 75k - $630
    5 yr / 100k - $665
    5 yr / 75k - $575
    5 yr / 60k - $485
    4 yr / 60k - $425

In San Jose, I have worked with Larry Hopkins, Steven Creek, Capitol Hondas. Palo Alto is just up the freeway on 101 and you can get Anderson.

In East Bay area, the biggest inventory of Ody is Dublin Honda at 31 Odys when I check just 2 minutes ago. Obviously Oakland Honda is close to the airport. Staff Sylvia's Honda in El Cerrito isn't that far up 880/80 from the airport. San Leandro Honda is like 10 miles south on 880 from Oakland airport. Livermore Honda is just another 10 miles more east than Dublin. I never got any decent prices with Hayward Honda or Auto west Honda in Fremont. But you can try those bad boys as well.

As far as I see it, if someone is willing to come by and pick you up at the airport for free, I don't think it really matters too much how far away from the airport the dealership is. Seeing that garyw has a nice little rive back to OR from CA, what's the few extra miles if he can save $$.

So you got "whacked" in your post 3824? So if people ever read my post 3825 when I congratulated you on the $2 above invoice purchase, they are wondering "who is this Harryfat guy talking to"? What $2 above invoice deal is he referring to?

    Live and Learn.

Just be sure you refinance your car for $300 off so else people will start wondering about Njswamplands post 3835 on what he is referring to....
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
So this is the new price to beat? $2999 off MSRP by wholigan (post 3868, unless he gets whacked again) in Chicago area? I guess if hislander ever get his $3K off MSRP deal in Texas, he will be the title holder, for today, at $3K off...
  • wholiganwholigan Member Posts: 148
Funny thing thought - I used only his first name and managed to mis-spell it!

Started the refinance process this morning... Will cost $43 but I wash myself from questionable tactics of the finance dude... And still save $257. Now I can go buy the cargo tray/splash guard/wheel locks at HandA!

    Dude,

Just be thankful you're weren't exiled like jsmath5 was in the other Ody versus Sienna forum for mentioning the unmentionables.

This is not the first time this has happened to me as I responded to a post and then later on when I went back to check on the details on the post, I realized the original post was gone. So it looked like I was talking to thin air.

Maybe I should have done that on April 1, April fools day, start to congratulate all the "phantom" Ody owners in 10 posts in a row and people are wondering, WHO are these 10 new owners that Harryfat guy is talking to?

Don't forget to buy the $1.99 (plus tax) conversation mirrors that njswampland reminded you in post 3835...

Enjoy your new Ody and laugh all the way to the bank, with or without your suit case...

    Dude,

I know nothing about leases. Try this web site for basics:

    http://www.carbuyingtips.com/lease.htm

How does that $25,997 play into the lease terms? Like I said, I know nothing. But I'm sure there are lots of Edmunds forums that mentions leases...

lapvn thank you. email on its way.

harryfat. Yep I was adding the dest. in the price. I just started shopping now. But as mentioned sent out some emails, but I think it was in the wrong format. I know $2200 off MSRP may be crazy, but As a walk in I was offered $1300 off. As you can see maybe by waiting it out a little I can get better than that offer, and if I do via email it may help.

Either way I have time, I'll be looking to trade in my car / or sell it so I am in no rush. Thanks again.

Iri, rule #1 here is have an easy name, most of us are so old, we couldn't recite the chemistry tables first 10 elements. What are the first 10 elements? I am sure Andrew will have the answer for us shortly.
2nd is yes the discounts are true. However, for us in the East and West coast the discounts seem to arrive via pony express from the Midwest. When I started here (oh god I sound like a grandfather) midwest people were bragging about $2k, and Harry and I were looking at the best deal possible at $5. Anyway, as per rules, just email me and I will send you all the info that I have and give you any other advice I can give you.

Savvy - Harry, here how savvy I am, as you know the salesman FEDEX me my plates, title and registration. I told him, while your at it I want some of those nice key chains. In the FEDEX envelope I find 2 PLASTIC key chains that you find at tourist traps for $.99 with the dealers name on it. WOw are these those nice key chains. I guess I now know how thankful that salesman was. sssshhhhssss

FOR SALE $1.99 conversation mirror, special for the week to first two buyers, FREE KEY CHAIN.

I purchased day before Easter from Dublin dealer in Calif. (zip 94583). They have an internet price of $1400 above invoice. See post 3749 for more details about my purchase. Paid $26620 for the EX-L. The internet manager and the name of his assistant is posted on this dealers web site. Go to Honda.com and then enter zip code. They were easy to work with and took care of all paper work without pressure to purchase extras. think they really like to make deals on inventory they have on hand, but the same owner owns the Tracy Dealership also. I think they would probably consider a trade between dealerships if they did not have what you wanted.

If you flew into Oakland or San Jose you would be no more than 30 min. from dealer. I did my whole deal over internet/phone quite easily. Made an appointment to come in and complete paper work and it was all done in advance. I used to drive from Bay Area to Salem in 10 hours. Good Luck! Had the van now one week it is great.

on harryfat's post a while back. I bought my Odyssey at Marin Honda (not El Cerito) which is the county on the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge. I paid $850 over factory invoice. I probably could have haggled for a few additional hundred dollars, but overall was happy with the price.

Congrats on all the new owners!
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
I said this before, but did you ever imagine the day would come that we would see ads for the Ody. Even for any amount. This is a great time to buy.

    Thanks Toyota. :)

We just got our new Odyssey from Thomason Honda in Gladstone for $1500 off MSRP. This works only through their Internet Sales office, though.

  • shifterkartshifterkart Member Posts: 10
Have to concur with "dad16" on Dublin Honda. I had the same experience with them.

FYI, in last week's Friday edition of the SF Chronicle, Winter Honda in Pittsburg, CA had an ad for an Odyssey EXL-NAV for $3000 off MSRP.
  • njswamplandsnjswamplands Member Posts: 1,760
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
Wow, $3000 off in CA for an Ody? This is not "one only" demo van with lots of miles in it?

I stopped reading the SF Chronicle/Comical since I started working in SJ now. More partial for the Merc. But I will keep that $3K off in mind for future buyers when they ask for help.

As for Dublin, I said this before in many previous posts, they have one of the biggest inventory here in the bay area, but at least when I was looking last month, they didn't come close to having the best prices. Glad you guys had good experiences with them. But like I told Gary from OR, he has a good choice of Honda dealers to pick from here in the bay area as he gets lots of quotes. I always include Dublin in all my bay area references just because of their inventory size.
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
This must be month's end. All the activities are here today instead of the usual Ody versus Sienna forum. There hasn't been one post over there since yesterday afternoon. Either Andrew is too busy baby sitting or people are just out there working the deals on both the Ody and Sienna sides.

BTW: The two Ody van related boards were number 1 and 2 yesterday. I don't ever recall seeing 2 van discussions up there as 1 and 2...
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Plus there are no SUV boards in the Top Ten today, nada. I don't follow the Top Ten list all that closely but I've never noticed that before. Guess SUVs are definitely passé now, and vans, wagons and sedans are back.

Sorry on the incorrect info on where you bought your van. I rememeber someone else that bought at El Cerrito Honda within 48 hours after you and I bought ours last month. Too many names/places.

It's tough to track where all the people bought their vans. Especially when new buyers come in and say "I live in X state, is this a good deal?" I then have to jog my memory bank to see who bought what where. I guess if I really didn't have a life outside of Edmunds, I can do a spreadsheet on who bought what when and the number of posts.

So when someone come in and ask, I can just pull up the spreadsheet and say, "Per BobSmith in Boise, ID, he bought an Ody on 12/31/02 for $1500 off MSRP from ABC dealership and his post was number 1000, look it up". Boom, no fuzz, no muss...

I was thinking of going back and tracking prices too. Maybe we can get host pf_flyer to let us borrow his "map" (see the "Where are you from" discussion in News & Views) for a nice visual.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
RES stands for Reminder Expensive Sienna. JUST KIDDING.

It stands for Rear Entertainment System. The EXL-RES signify's you are looking at a Odyssey with leather and comes standard from the factory a Honda DVD entertainment system.
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
So are the key chains a promo item of the dealership's name? If that's the case, it's not even worth 99 cents as they have to pay me to advertise for them to remind me that I bought my van from them.

But if you bought a Dodge T&C, you might get a key chain with Celine's picture with it and maybe even autographed too, then it's worth something...
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
It's a huge plastic rectangular piece and printed on it are huge letters of the dealership. You can spot this thing miles away. I am sure they paid pennies for this, and I am supposed to be impress.

But, it's free for me and when I start selling these conversation mirrors I can sell send them out as promos.

Hey I am still waiting for the phones to ring, where are all my orders. Maybe I can sell them to Toyota at a discount instead. :)
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
Hah, an actual post to help somebody instead of me just mouthing off (fancy that).

Look at post 3809, someone from KY bought one, but I don't recall him saying where he bought his. Search up and down for couple days before and after to see if there were mentions of prices in KY.

As sales tax rules are different by state by local jurisdictions, very few people quote just the "out the door price" as it means nothing to others outside of your county/city. Most people prefer to use $$ off MSRP as that's easiest to measure. Sometimes people use $$ above invoice. Which is the same, just an addition instead of subtraction to get to your numbers.
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
I think Andrew has chosen to camp out on the Ody versus Sienna camp to duke it out with them Sienna Supporters, so he hasn't been around this forum touting his NAV. But he is still over there talking how cool/how much bigger/better the Ody NAV is compared to the Sienna's NAV. For pure entertainments purposes, everyone should sneak in a peek on what's said on the other side.
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
    Mystery solved.

You posted in 3579. "Hotsoups" (How can I forget a name like that?) posted in 3587 and 3590 that he bought in El Cerrito Honda for a low price as well.

Since those were so closed to each other, I just associated you with El Cerrito as I know you're "up north somewhere".

One more month I'll never be able to track who bought where and for how much...

Winter Honda had another ad the week before (April 18-19) that advertised an EX cloth for $24,900 ($2460 off an MSRP of $27360). Their ad is also in the Contra Costa Times but not in the San Jose Mercury.

Stevens Creek was quoting $25400 for EX cloths through their Internet/Fleet sales.
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
Thanks for the insight. Keep me/others posted on the latest Ody prices here in the bay area as my quotes are from last month and just like stock prices, last month's quotes mean nothing.

So the new target for SF/SJ bay area folks is aim for $237 above invoice on the Ex cloth as per the price set by Winter Honda? That makes the Steven Creek quote of $25400 ($737 above invoice) to be over priced?

At this rate, we'll soon see the $2 above invoice deal like wholigan in Chicago by end of June. Amazing...

Hi, I have been lurking here for quite some time. Tonight, we put a hold (500 deposit) on an EX-L. Price was 500 over invoice (26,511 includes dest fee), or $2,309 off MSRP (not including dest.fee). The van has stripes ($45) and splash guards ($129)- thus, that adds to the sale price making it 26,685. The process was so easy- did it online- received a quote in 12 hours. Originally, we planned to buy the EX-L-RES, however, we decided to save some money and buy a portable DVD player. That way, we take it with us!!! Our wonderful sales person gave us the suggestion!!!!
St. Louis Honda is where we went, but Huey's Honda is also offering great deals through the online manager. Both people I dealt with were great- Huey's didn't have the van in the color we wanted- midnight blue.
We could have bought it tonight but there was a bad thunderstorm and they closed at 6, so we decided to wait, drive it tomorrow, and then negotiate the warranty!!!
We were approved through peoples first for 4.39%, but the dealer does not accept their checks, so we are approved through "their" bank for the same rate! Good thing!
They have many left, all trim lines- this is a great deal!!!!
I will post more once i have our new van Wed night!!!
Thanks to all of you for helping me, now on to the warranty........

Just want to stop by and say hi, I miss you folks here. I took off a couple weeks ago to hunt for the best bargain, and here is my brief trip summary:

1.Sienna: local dealers in NY/NJ are sticking to MSRP, but you do see postings in PA dealers going at 2 to 4 % above invoice price, the best deal heard so far is in the mid-west, $500 above invoice.
2.MPV: invoice - $2000 dealer cash are common practice among all dealers. Likely Mazda is going to continue its promotion in May to boost its minivan market share.

As a consumer, I am just enjoying watching the competition going, MANY THANKS TO EDMUNDS AND YOU FOLKS HERE for keeping shoppers informed and pushing the dealers to be honest. Too bad my wife is going to pull the plug to stop the music and make a decision on our selection tomorrow- it's time to move on. Can't wait to see when the Quest join the market in a month.

I went to the Carr's Honda (Chicago) website and under "internet specials" they have an advertisement for Odyssey EX at $24,665 and EXL at $26,013, $2 over invoice. Much thanks to wholigan for telling us about the deal. I was about ready to pack up and drive about 6 hours to Chicago. Then I thought, why not try to get a dealer to match the price closer to home? I pasted a link to that page in my e-mail and sent it to about 12 dealers within about a 90 minute drive. I have four dealers who are willing to match the price. All except one want me to finance through the dealer. I'll probably do it since I appreciate them saving me the drive to Chicago. Prior to this, my best deal was about $800 over invoice. Thanks to Edmunds and everyone on this board for helping to save me some money, especially wholigan!

Hi, this is my first time posting, but I have been reading your input for a couple months. My best price that I could find when visiting suburban Detroit dealerships was $1500 under MSRP. They just did not want to budge. Then I followed the advise of one of your members that said to get the email addresses for dealerships within a couple hundred miles and specify exactly what I want. That's when the magic started to happen. Today, I finalized my purchase of an EXL-RES with a few additions.

This was my final deal: EXL-RES $27559 ($200 over invoice or $2801 under MSRP including destination charge). I then added the Honda Tow Pkg at the end for $641, the 7yr/100,000 mile Zero Deductible Bumper to Bumper warranty for $960. I had received quotes primarily from $1250 to $1475 for the warranty. The doc fee was only $40 compared to $160 that seemed to be somewhat standard.

I received many great quotes, but in the end three dealerships were all in this general area. I had finally narrowed down the dealer that I was going to do business with and my phone rang. It was a dealer that sent me a quote through email that was higher than the rest, so I had not replied to him. I told him the deal I was getting and he ended up beating the deal by matching the other dealers prices and then reducing the tow pkg by another $100, the warranty by another $20 and his doc fee went to $40. So, my advise to everyone is to reply to every email you receive and tell them what you are getting. If they are hungry, you will be happy. Many thanks to all of you who participate in these discussions. Good luck and happy hunting!

Could you please tell socal that the Sienna is just not moving from MSRP as for NJ/NY area. I keep telling him that there is no way the price will move if there are people willing to be on a waiting list. I keep telling him, right now, especially in our area, 2% invoice is not the norm, and like you said you've heard of it only.
