They may say that if you buy from them, you are eligible for extended 5yr/xx,xxx mile warranty from them. The service desk told me later that that 5-yr warranty is only if you do all servicing during those 5yrs thru them ONLY.
Their service dept is not as responsive after the sale as they should be. If you need any accessories or any dealer installs done, have them done to your satisfaction before you take delivery (or pay) for the van.

I just purchased an ex-cloth - $300 over invoice (which included destination). This was a cash deal - no trade - also got the Honda 2.9 financing and 7/100 warranty ($850 for the warranty). Got the sage brush pearl (which seems to be a popular color). You could easily do at invoice.
Just call around and get quotes - the inventory is abundant - lots of Ody's. deals are available. good luck.

Was quoted $500 over invoice today on the first quote from a dealer. I know this is high and will negotiate further toward the end of the month.
Also, is getting the 2.9% financing typical for 4 years - are most dealers offering this?
Honda has dropped the lease price on EX's down to
$279/month, from $299. Does anyone think that
they'll start offering rebates to clear out the
'04's?? If so when? I don't want to buy early
and miss out.
We pick it up this afternoon after the dealer has installed the transmission & power steering coolers we added.
Here's the numbers:
EXL-NAVI for $27,918.89 ($0.46 less than invoice).
Includes the base car + cargo tray, accent stripes, wheel lip moldings, splash guards, fabric protection, undercoating, & weather proofing. We very easily could have lived without some of these but they were already on the car.
The 2 coolers were $444 for parts & labor.
The trade-in was within $219 or 1.2% of KBB excellent condition.
Dealer fees were $399.25. We know this is high. However, they are in line with other dealers in the area. We also feel that the rest of the deal was very fair to us.
After getting these numbers, we called the other 2 dealers we were working with. Both said they couldn't get to that out-the-door price. The closest was $600 higher.
The experience was the 2nd easiest new car purchase we've made only behind a GM Supplier program purchase.
The dealer was in Louisville, Kentucky.

If I decide to lease, whould they be that cooperative as much as the cash deal? Did you buy your extended warrenty offered by Honda? How much did you pay?

I did not discuss leasing with them at all, so as far as that's concerned, I can't give you any info.
Open Road Honda in Edison quoted me invoice from the start but did not want to go below invoice. Very good experience with them though. Very courteous, open. They have many on the lot right now.
I did not get 2.9% financing (no incentives listed for the NJ area). Got financing through dealer at 3.74%.
Decided against the Extended warranty They did not want to deal on price (I guess there was not much room for negotiating left), so I'll go look for that elsewhere in a few weeks. If anyone knows where to get a good deal, please let me know.

Looks like deals approaching invoice is now becoming more standard.
Those looking at LX should note that $24980 sticker translates to $22038 invoice plus destination charge ($490) for a total of $22528, not adjusting for color or area. It also gives a true market value - or what others are paying in your area. Same check can be done for EX, EX-L, EX-L with nav, etc. A post up above noted to nail down a price on the basic car, then start the negotiations for each of the options you want to get. I look above and know I paid to much - at least $500 over invoice, but probably better than what the TMV shows at Edmunds pricing guide for my area. Nice van.

IMHO an under invoice deal sounds great on a great van. I paid MSRP 4 years ago and was happy - that was the going rate then. There's always someone somewhere who will tell you were taken. If you're happy, then it was a great deal.
2 years ago my neighbors were waiting weeks for their Ody at Sticker price.
My wife wants one now, so I recommended the 2 yr old route.
I am pleasantly surprised to see, as Laundry Guy stated, that those Sticker days for the Ody are gone.
After just 1 hour of research, I see that it makes sense to go New (04).

In the days of 8 - 9% prime, I think this was more powerful motivation for the seller. Not sure how it is now with the 1.5% prime. My guess is they pay no more than 2% a year APR because of their immense buying power or internal financing mechanism, which would be $40 a month or so for a $22032 invoice car. Anybody got their take on this? This was my motivation to buy mid-month and deliver as a birthday present to my wife as it didn't seem like I would be leaving much money on the table waiting.....
To also get that motivation from the dealer at the end of the month, I think the car/van you want must be on site. Having the car on site that I want just never seems to be the case for me. Last van relocated 190 miles. This one 160 miles, and for a color (Silver) that gets tagged as being worth less! I almost was able to bid on the one I test drove, but they sold it while on the test drive to someone else!

This board saved me a good bit of money. My friend, who bought one several months ago, suggested I should expect to pay about $1000 over invoice. Even Edmunds TMV had it about there. While I realize that I did fairly well price-wise, there were several major battles that I've had to fight to get this far.
1) The vehicle I wanted wasn't on my dealer's lot, but there was one available at another dealer across town. (However, this unit was the only white EX (w/o leather) available within 200 miles of NE Florida!) Hence, I had to wait from Saturday to today (Tues.) for my dealer to actually get his hands on it. (My dealer's sales Mgr. claimed he couldn't get the other dealer to get off their butts on Monday and do the vehicle trade paperwork. (Or so he said. I don't know if it was a true story or they were just foot-dragging, but since its water under the bridge now, so who cares).
2) At the time of making the deal on Saturday, the sales mgr. wanted to (as every dealer does) screw me on the value of my trade-in vehicle and tried to use a Kelly Blue Book price for it, which are about 10-20% lower than the published prices from NADA or even Edmunds. (I (and most banks that I know of) have always gone by NADA values for vehicles.) The trade-in car (1996 Accord LX, 5spd., 99K miles, non-smoking) was in impeccible condition with 1 1/2yr old tires and all req. maintenance (incl. 90K mile service, timing belt/water pump, brakes, etc.). I eventually got him to come up to the "low retail value" as published by NADA, at which point I considered it a small victory and quit arguing while I was ahead. (I plan to check out the used car lot in the next few days to see what they're going to mark it up to, just for kicks/giggles.)
3) Upon picking up the van today, as I was about to leave, I realized that they forgot to put the mud guards on it and when I brought it to another staff member's attention, they sent the Sales Mgr. over to me, who immediately got snappy & told me, point blank, that "they weren't part of your deal". At this point, I promptly/quietly pulled out my copy of the "We Owe" order form that was filled out on Saturday when the deal was written up and showed him IN WRITING where it was INDEED part of the deal. He then got this sheepish look on his face, swallowed (that fat piece of crow) hard, and said "ok, let me make a copy of this and we'll get them put on for you right now." He didn't even look me in the eye when he said it! (I'm still chuckling about sticking it to him, since we were standing in front of several customers in the waiting room when I zinged him!)
I've been using this dealer's service/parts department for nearly 7 years on my old car and have built a great relationship with their staff and am completely thrilled with the customer service, attitude, and attention to detail. As such, I plan to continue bringing my new Odyssey to this dealership for its service and any parts needs.
Conversely however, I had also heard lots of bad stories from friends/co-workers around town about the sales side of the dealership and was initially hesitant to even try buying my van there, but since they ended up giving me the best $$ deal, I went ahead and did the deal with them.
Now that it's over, all-in-all, I have to say that with the exception of the one sales mgr. who's in need of an attitude adjustment, it wasn't TOO terribly painful. The office people were very courteous (I brought my own financing), as was the saleswoman whom I orginally negotiated with. (even though she screwed up and should have caught the mud flap issue before it got as far as it did.) In the end, I've ended up with the vehicle that I wanted (and am EXTREMELY pleased with) for a pretty good price without the headache of having to sell my trade vehicle myself. Now if I can just get my wife to let me drive it once and a while!

On page 257 paulamama paid $26990 + $540 destination for an EXL with DVD which was indicated in the post as $300 under invoice. $300 under invoice is rare. Invoice is a little more common. Many seem to be paying $200 to $500 over invoice. Once again - analyze the posts above - you should be able to get an understanding of what to pay.
Regarding processing fees - these seem to be a way to basically hide dealer profit. I think mine was circa $130 to $170 and as such $299 seems high to me. Have seen as high as $599 on this site recently. Basically, add this to the price of the car so they are making more than that 2% they are telling you in addition to a 3% or so holdback on top of that.
If your negotiations are still open, consider trying to get this processing fee waved or at least cut in half. Some have done much better through crafty negotiation. Try to get two to three quotes - then you will know if you are getting a fair shake.
It's a great van - wish I could have added the DVD player at a lower cost to the LX trim - but didn't want the power lift gates, power doors, etc (my boys would bust them anyhow) that the EX had. I'll live with the strap in color TV for $150 for as much as we use it.

I even get leather and a am/fm/cassette/cd player and plenty of other extras for $21k.
2004 EXL Silver for 26K
Getting 15350 for 2003 Kia Sedona 8K miles EX with leather, moonroof, spoiler (KBB is 16350 for excellent) they are also offering these kia vans new for about 22K with incentives (1,500 cash back) for them too. No market for a used kia apparently.)
We can't see driving the Kia for another few years only to end up with a car we don't like.
Any thoughts on the above deal would be great.
Here is what I know so far! (From what I've read)
- Bad transmissions from 1999 - 2004. Make sure previous owner has taken care of sched maint. and see if they have actually done a trans job yet or not!
(If I am driving one, what should I do to see if the trans. symptom is there?)
- Faulty electric door locks on 1999 & 2000? Any more info?
- Anything else I should look out for if testing one out?

When I visited the dealer I went armed with lots of information. Had visited edmunds to get invoice price, researched hold-back (about $800), and had offer from other dealer in city. Negotiations were fairly easy, once I showed dealer info I had, AND visited them late in the evening, right before month ended. Do not purchase on impulse, be ready to leave without buying IF you do not get what you want.
