If I were to buy again, here some things I've learned:
1) follow the Edmunds guide to buying a car
2) call many dealers (I tried 4 but I would call 6 to 10), ask for the internet salesperson, and state you are ready to buy a EXL (with color preference) within the next 48 hours and need their best quote. All of whom I spoke with over the phone sounded equally mature as the Koons salesperson.
3) Ask for the car price and the walkout price. Sometimes the car price is low and they add some fee to make the walkout price higher. Use the best price to get your prefered dealer to the same best price.
4) I did not but would of liked to see the invoice of the van to see if the sales person was telling the truth (selling 200 over invoice). You can ask to see but I do not know if they will share with you.
5)Do not buy the extended care at the dealer the same day unless you do your homework over the internet. I am cancelling it tomorrow (paid 1295) since I found you can purchase it from ~900 to $1000 (7yr, 100,00miles, 0 ded).
Good luck.
Oddy EXL: $26,122 (invoice plus delivery of $490)
7 Yr./100k/0 deductible Extended Warranty: $900
The rest was the tax, title and registrations.
Best experience ever at a dealer, can't wait to go back and get the S2000 !
Let me know if you want to know who we worked with.
Here is what I paid
Price - $26710 (270 below invoice)
Dest - $490
10yr/100K - $1330
Gap Insurance$500
Ohio Tax7% - $2256 (Including Doc fee and title)
total - 31286
Let me know if I did OK.
Thanks for this group I had quote from more than 5 delears. After I bought this car I had another dealer come up with 30900 on road.
Other then that it looks like you did great.
Have not decided yet on an extended warranty, but they offered a 5 year for about $700, guess I will shop around a little.
For those who can wait, or are thinking about a trade in fairly soon, wait a little longer. I have seen the pictures of the new re designed 05 Odyssey. You can still see it's an Odyssey from the outside, it has a little sleeker design, but the overall "Odyssey look" is still there.
But ohhboy is there a BIG difference on the inside. All I can say is that the new Sienna and Quest will get a "run for the money" coming this fall when (hopefully) it will go on sale.
$26,500 on road (this includes doc fees, sales tax of 6.75%, title and of course Destination charges). This brings the base price of the van to about $24,600 to $24,650 (including $490 dest. charge). I want to get the metalic silver color. Edmunds says that base invoice for EX-cloth is 24,284, so I am getting the van for approx. 200 under the invoice price.
Is this a good deal or should I bargain some more ? I am finding that there are several Odyssey's sitting in the dealers lot (at the dealership) and there is another lot (offsite) where they store more cars/vans.
I have gotten this offer from the internet sales consultant.
I think we will see prices on the current Odyssey drop more as we are getting closer to the release date of the new redesigned 05.
I called them and spoke with an "internet account manager" he said that the MSRP was 28,980. He said he could offer me the EX-L at a Costco price of 27,906. I though in turn that it was a pretty decent price, but after reviewing all the posts, it seems as though the price isn't all that great. Is there anyone in the Seattle area, or for that matter in Western Washington that can give me any insight into their purchase, like where it was purchased, price and experience overall. The thing that it making it a little difficult is that I will be leasing it, but regarless, I still want to negotiate price. Any help would be great.

Added Keyless Remote: $421.50
Doc. Fee: $99.00
Tax(6%): $1,400.73
----------------------
Total: $24,746.23 ($1,000 less than a quote
I received from another Honda dealership 30 miles away.)
2004 Honda Odyssey EX-L with DVD for:
27,850.00 (includes destination charge)
Two dealers locally wouldn't even match it. I even had proof via email from another dealer. They didnt want to go any lower than 28200.00.
Funny thing is when I first started looking a few weeks back, one of the dealers quoted me a Costco memebers price of 27,906.00 for an EX-L. The yesterday, they said 28,202 with DVD. Some of these Car Dealers are unbelievable. Just so locals know what I am talking about, the Dealership is Lynnwood Honda.
Thanks
Note: Consumer Reports Wholesale Price, 1/20/04,
EX-L,(Invoice + Destination Charge) - holdback =
(25,632 + 490) - 855 = 25,267.
3% Dealer profit would bring that to about 26,000.
Don't know what the DVD costs.
My email address is manaraki22@yahoo.com
Just picked up my 2004 Ody EX cloth interior, Havasu Blue color in Chicago suburbs.
On Road Price = $27,766 which included price of the van inclusinve ofdest charges, sales tax, title, doc fees, and the following accessories -
fog lights, back up sensor, door guards, splash guards, engine block heater, wheel locks, and cargo cover and cassette player. (all of accessories lumpsum at $1600) and the van $24,225, $52 doc fees, 6.75% sales tax, plus 800 dollars in coupons.
The salesman that I was dealing with was very patient and I basically negotiated between 2 dealers only. The sales manager was upset about selling the van for so low and even said that "this was a loussy deal and I will have to take a hit". But, he had to pay interest on the van and had to get rid of it and clear up the lot. There are several more sitting back there.
When I think back, I should have done a little
better job of neogtiating on accessories. But anyway, its a past now. I got 4% APR for 60 months after a 20% down payment.
thanks to all of you.
got the last NEW 2003 EXL - leather odyssey with no dealer add ons for 23500 + tax + tags = 25300
Got it from new york. everything was done on the internet and just had to pay cash and the deal was done we were out form the dealership in 30 min...hah ha ha.....
Now some more help needed
1) i need keyless ( remote engine start )
2) dvd
where to get it done and what is the cheapest way to do that
thansk to all of you
BTW, are dealers flexible on accessory pricing?
For the DVD, I recommend researching places like odyclub.com and checking the posts. I've seen some about the Audiovox unit etc. I've seen prices around $600 installed here in Portland, Oregon. Make sure you get at least a 7 inch screen. Don't know anything about keyless ingnition but do your research.
Enjoy the van, they sure are a pleasure to drive. Charlie
I was thinking around $19,500.
I will research over it as advised by you.
once again thanks for your reply!!!!!
does anyone know the residual value or I have to call the dealer to find out?
thanks
Van Price: 27,002
Trade: 13,502
Diff: 13,500
Doc fee: 250
My Price: 13,750
Taxes/tags: You bet!
Here's how I figured the deal, in as much as I stated earlier that I wanted to get the car for 300 over invoice and the dealer said he would sell it for 500 over invoice.
Price: 26,522 (400 over invoice)
- Trade: 12,772
= I spent: 13,750 + taxes
I was hoping for a bit more on the trade, but what can you do. The new van came with the mud flaps, pinstripe, wheel locks and a paint protection package that they try to add to the invoice for about 800,(thats probably why they listed the price as $27,002). It was all included in my bottom line differential when we were discussing the deal.
I dealt with the internet manager and the process was pretty painless, just an hour and a half or so getting all the paperwork together and the van cleaned up for delivery. I would recommend the dealer and the internet manager for anybody looking for a new Honda in the greater Graceland area.
Again, thank you Edmunds and all of you shoppers out there for sharing your info and making the car buying experience a little bit easier for everyone.

Oh, and they throw in upgrade to 5 year/60,000 mile warranty.
You think I should? Being end of month, what are my odds of getting even better deal?
