The REAL Question is this - I already have a couple of quotes off the internet fleet sites, and unfortuatnley the person I dealt w/ at SHowcase is no longer there, or I'd probably trust him again to give me the best deal in this area, anyway. However, I am willing to explore other options as I had 2 service issues with them that should have been warranty issues and they covered neither! Bottom line is I am going to go whereever I get the best price, but also have to dicker around with what the trade in value they give me is, so may have to actually go to more than one dealer which I dread. Last time, made enough phone calls, emails etc to feel I'd gotten the best deal w/out even going anywhere else. Plus they were just about the only dealwer with any stock, so got double lucky. Hope to deal with this this weekend, so would appreciate anyone's helpful info quickly. I saw one poster from the area went to Houston to get the car, but with 2 small kids I just don't want to do it!
Thanks so Much! Looking forward to any insights!
Can you anyone tell me what the Ex-l Res is? What is a good buying price for the EX with Entertainment/Leather?
Hope this isn't a dumb question.
I am looking to buy in Wichita Kansas or surrounding area. Wichita they are stubborn here about price nego. I may have to go to another city. I have heard that Dodge City, Kansas and Ponca City, OK are dealing pretty serious with buyers.
Thanks for the help.
RES = rear entertainment system, wouldn't it have been easier if they had just gone with DVD? 0-500 above invoice seems to be a pretty good price these days.
Can anyone tell me which dealer is giving a good deal? How much below or above invoice price?
Thanks, Charlie
For anyone else, just stick to your guns, tell every dealer you can find that you want to buy the vehicle at invoice. If you are serious about buying, you'll get the deal...
BTW.. In reference to the questions, EX L RES stands for EX with leather and rear entertainment center. Invoice on this vehicle including dealer destination charges is $27,470.
As a big time dealer basher, I must say you take the cake for customer pricks.
Is it a cultural thing that says you can only win with the other party loosing?
You are the very reason there are signs made that say "we have the right to refuse anyone's business"
I'm not in sales and usually loath car salesmen, but in the case we are referring to, I saw a buyer who was out of line, cheap, and just a royal pain. Getting what you want by being a good negotiator is one thing. Coming back later because you think you left $150 on the table and then demanding you get more is rediculous.

Where did you get those quotes from? Those look like great quotes. I am looking for a Sage EXL in the Tampa, Florida area. I am willing to drive a ways to get a good deal. I see that 26122 is the invoice for a 2004 EXL.
Where did you get those quotes? I am also looking for quotes in virginia.
I suppose it really comes down to whether or not people are really driving away with an EXL at invoice right now. If so, perhaps you should shop for invoice price on a "plain" EXL and add accessories yourself.
You can find some of your accessories at handaaccessories.com. Perhaps check there and add up the price. Not sure what window tinting and the color-matched items would cost. I'm going to buy a cargo tray and cover from the 'net because it's cheaper than the dealer.
The price I'm thinking about biting on now for an EXL, 26,330, includes just the splash guards and pinstripes. I really don't want them, but they're already on the van and that price is better than others I've been given with no acc. at all. Good luck, JR
I found local Virginia Beach dealers were only willing to deal down from MSRP (from ~$1000 to $1700 off) and essentially showed me the door when asking for anything more. Not to mention $399 processing fees.
After reading this board, I called Odonnell Honda on Sunday and got the EX-L w/RES for $26,980 + $490 dest. + $99 processing fee = $27,569.
Purchased a one-way ticket on Southwest for $77 and was at the dealer the next day (they are only 25 minutes from the airport). No hassles or pressure to buy extra warranties, etc.. Paperwork and vehicle were ready when I arrived and I was on the road home in ~1 hr.
Can't wait for the local dealers to call back and ask if I'm still interested in buying...
Goodson Honda west got my vote.
By the way, we were going to finance through E-Loan -- received an approval in 45 minutes with a promise that the dealer would receive a wire transfer within 2 days. Long story short, E-Loan was going to make the dealer jump through a bunch of hoops, with no guarantee that the funds would be wired by the delivery date. Needless to say, the dealer wouldn't release the van without the funds, so I cancelled the loan before signing the loan docs and went with a local bank for about a .09% difference in the interest rate. I won't use E-Loan again.
I've been doing a ton of research on all the minivans and am really considering going with the Ody. While I'd love to wait until next year for the redesign, our growing family can't really wait!
So far, there are a couple of dealerships I can recommend for their price quotes (these were for an EX-L only):
1) O'donnell Honda in Ellicott City (recommended a few posts up) had a good non-pushy attitude and gave a phone quote of $162 over invoice.
2) Criswell Honda in Germantown gave an email quote of $210 over invoice but a slightly lower "on the road" price.
3) Ourisman Honda in Bethesda is offering a Manager's monthly special for $25,999 ($367 over invoice).
Nice to see the prices coming down!
I'm going to be in market for a van (maybe...) in a few months. Looking at the Sienna and Odyssey (what else..) if i go with a van (wife still wants to get a wagon).
Thanks.
Rick
they have a website to check on the inventory. a whole bunch of ex
let me know
----------------------------
Invoice: $24774.00 (includes destination and handling)
Your Price: $24974.00.
This is $200.00 over invoice plus tax ,tags and dealer fee.
----------------------------
And after asking for the dealer fee details, I got
""Our dealer fee as almost all others are $499.00 and it covers fees such a paperwork and title work, documentary fees and cost to offset the delivery of the car and all teck work as well"".
I'm OK with the $200 markup, but not sure about the dealer fee. So, what do you think of this quote @ $25,473 + tax + tags.
Thanks
thoughts on Vandergriff or David McDavid.
My experience... O'Donnell was great. I would highly recommend them, especially after talking with lots of bad dealers and dealers who simply weren't willing to sell their vans for a reasonable price. Good luck.
Sorry, if this question is a little too naive.
I see a lot of posts where people are buying their cars from far-off (out-of-town) dealers. In that case, can they take their vehicle to a neighborhood dealer for regular service and repairs ?
Also, how do taxes and registration work with out-of-state dealers.
Thanks in advance
Some dealers are well equipped to handle out of state transactions. Taxes and the such are based on where you will register the vehicle so there is no tax savings buying out of state.
The wife went from an '02 Avalon to the Odyssey and loves it. Our kids love it more which makes us not miss the niceties of the Avalon (which was basically a Lexus with a Toyota badge). With all the space in the Ody, I'm thinking about adding a 9" TV/DVD Combo unit between the front seats. $250 vs $2500 for the EX-L/RES.
With that said, sales departments will still use the lame tactic when trying to sell a car that they are number one in service - insinuating you will be a second class customer if you return with an out of town purchase. No need to fall for that.
I remember my local (small allocation high priced) Honda dealer trying to justify his higher price by telling me their service department was tops and they had BBQ's for their customers. All that meant to me was I could eat $200 hot dogs at a car dealership while my oil was changed at $50 a pop. No thanks.
I just closed the deal a week ago in Cleveland on a 2004 midnight blue EXL-RES. The price was $27,970, about $400 over invoice. The money factor was .00137 (about 3% interest rate) and the residual after 48 months is 53%, or $16K and some change (I can't remember the exact number). I didn't put any money down, I didn't even pay the tax or first month's payment. It is all rolled into my monthly payments, which are $352 each month.
At the same time, I am coming to the end of my lease on a 2001 Odyssey EX. I was going to trade it in, but the dealer only offered me my payoff amount. That would have been very decent on any other vehicle, but as we all know, the Odyssey is worth more. I decided to sell it on my own. I have found a buyer and will close the deal tomorrow. He will buy if for $18,700. I would like to see anyone with a Ford/Dodge/Chevy minivan with an original MSRP around $26,500 accomplish that.
Purchased from 2nd dealer for $25,810 including doc fee and destination plus sales tax and title/license (internet then calls).
Victory Honda, Monroe MI. Twice I thanked them for their time and ended the call because the price was too high. Twice they called back and came down (finally!) to $25,810.
have paid for similarly equipped van.
