I paid $864 for 7 year 100,000 miles in Germantown, MD. I think it should not be any more than that. The finance manager told me this was their cost price. So assuming that it si correct, the rest is all profilt going into thier pocket.

Just got a 2004 Sage LX for about $300 over invoice. Did everything through email. Went to pick up the vehicle -- very professional, friendly, and didn't push accessories or extended warranty. Would definitely buy from them again. Anyone in the New England area shoud check them out. Sales manager said they sell about 100 vehicles a month, so large volume may help in negotiations.

I noticed in the new 04 Odyssey brochure, they reference a convenience package for the LX that has CD, roof rack, remote entry. Has anyone got any pricing information from a dealer or anywhere else on this package, both MSRP and invoice? Thanks.

Has anyone has good deals around Chicago or Minneapolis area for an EX or EX-L

Today I received a call from Showcase Honda asking if I'd be interested in selling the 2000 Odyssey I purchased there in JUly 2000. It only has 32000 miles, has never had a problem, so had never crossed my mind to get rid of it - planned to run it into the ground after 10-15 yrs maybe (ha ha). Wouldn't you know I spent a good part of the day considering this propostion to come in for appraisal which is most likely a guise to get me to buy a new car - but if it makes economic sense, I'm game. I'd actually even get the same gold color -but based on the Honda web site my husband is interested in the "Havasu Blue Metallic". I've never seen this before, has anyone -is it available and is it pretty? I'd assuem it comes with the gray interior and I prefer the tan, but maybe I should try a new color, though I like my current gold!

The REAL Question is this - I already have a couple of quotes off the internet fleet sites, and unfortuatnley the person I dealt w/ at SHowcase is no longer there, or I'd probably trust him again to give me the best deal in this area, anyway. However, I am willing to explore other options as I had 2 service issues with them that should have been warranty issues and they covered neither! Bottom line is I am going to go whereever I get the best price, but also have to dicker around with what the trade in value they give me is, so may have to actually go to more than one dealer which I dread. Last time, made enough phone calls, emails etc to feel I'd gotten the best deal w/out even going anywhere else. Plus they were just about the only dealwer with any stock, so got double lucky. Hope to deal with this this weekend, so would appreciate anyone's helpful info quickly. I saw one poster from the area went to Houston to get the car, but with 2 small kids I just don't want to do it!

Thanks so Much! Looking forward to any insights!

We are looking for an EX-L in sage brush color. Does anyone one know of a good/low price dealer around the Charlotte area? We are willing to drive a little bit to save some $.

I'm new to this board and Odyssey's but I love them. I have an 94 accord with 91,000 miles in excellent shape, but it's too small for a growing family.

Can you anyone tell me what the Ex-l Res is? What is a good buying price for the EX with Entertainment/Leather?
Hope this isn't a dumb question.
I am looking to buy in Wichita Kansas or surrounding area. Wichita they are stubborn here about price nego. I may have to go to another city. I have heard that Dodge City, Kansas and Ponca City, OK are dealing pretty serious with buyers.
    Thanks for the help.

The Havasu Blue actually comes with the Fern interior. Its just a bit darker (in cloth) than the quartz interior, with a touch of green. The Havasu Blue is a very light almost silverish blue that seemed to be hard to find intitially but I saw several of them on the lot at a dealer outside of Memphis yesterday.

RES = rear entertainment system, wouldn't it have been easier if they had just gone with DVD? 0-500 above invoice seems to be a pretty good price these days.

I live in Austin, TX and looking for Honda Odyssey with Entertainment and Leather options. I wouldn't mind driving up to Dallas or Houston if dealer offers a good deal.
Can anyone tell me which dealer is giving a good deal? How much below or above invoice price?
    Thanks, Charlie

Go to honda's site and request qoutes. I had been given good prices last year when I bought my Oddy use zipcode 77030 to locate houston Area Dealers. From my personal experiences with the various Honda dealers I would talk to David Mcdavid, and Russell & Smith first.

If you read through this a little bit, I think you will see that most Odyssey buyers looking to buy right now are getting invoice or pretty darn close to it. For mommybear, there is a dealer in Mcalester, OK called Riverside Autoplex that will likely do a deal at invoice and bring you the vehicle of choice for a couple hundred dollars. For Charlie, David McDavid in Dallas is the most competitive around and they are the most likely to do invoice, expecially if you go pick it up. Email me at jamestren@yahoo.com and I can give you the names of salespeople to deal with at either of these dealers.

For anyone else, just stick to your guns, tell every dealer you can find that you want to buy the vehicle at invoice. If you are serious about buying, you'll get the deal...

BTW.. In reference to the questions, EX L RES stands for EX with leather and rear entertainment center. Invoice on this vehicle including dealer destination charges is $27,470.

I just read about as much as I could about your buying experience and the remedy.

As a big time dealer basher, I must say you take the cake for customer pricks.

Is it a cultural thing that says you can only win with the other party loosing?

You are the very reason there are signs made that say "we have the right to refuse anyone's business"

If you can't take buying/selling, supply/demand, dealing with the public, taking it on the chin once in a while, raking it in once in a while - then find another job. It's called business.
  • aspesisteveaspesisteve Member Posts: 833
you didn't understand where I'm coming from.
I'm not in sales and usually loath car salesmen, but in the case we are referring to, I saw a buyer who was out of line, cheap, and just a royal pain. Getting what you want by being a good negotiator is one thing. Coming back later because you think you left $150 on the table and then demanding you get more is rediculous.

We are looking at buying the ex-l navi at the end of December. I have already started getting quotes but am wondering if this is too early. Will prices go down at the end of the year? We are waiting for a separate loan to come through so we will be buying cash. A dealer (California) gave me a quote for $28,219 including the destination charge. Color is not that important to us. Do you think their stock on this model will turn over within one month? Any advice for negotiating this far out, or should we wait until we have the cash in hand? thanks for any tips.

Where did you get those quotes from? Those look like great quotes. I am looking for a Sage EXL in the Tampa, Florida area. I am willing to drive a ways to get a good deal. I see that 26122 is the invoice for a 2004 EXL.

St. Louis Honda ran an add this weekend quoting $22,990 for LX, about $500 over invoice. Prices are certainly coming down.

I'm using the Internet and phone calls (for the first time) to buy an EX-L (no RES or NAV) Invoice $26,122. After several bidding rounds I've got a price of $26,330. My favorite dealer dropped out at $26,460 and told me $26,330 was a great deal. Should I keep squeezing the orange or is this a fair price? Has anyone ever went to the dealer and had them conveniently forget what they told you on the phone? Any final tips appreciated before I buy.

I got a price of 26541.17 + 400 dlr fee + 8 dollar battery fee for a 2004 Odyssey Sage EXL with Splash Guards, Pinstipe, Color Matched Door Edge Guards, Color Matched Fender Well Trim, Tinting of the two front windows, Full Nose Mask, Cargo Cover, and Cargo Tray. All of which are Honda Accessories. All of this for a total price of $26947.17 Is this a great deal or just so so...?
  • jr7350jr7350 Member Posts: 2
odyowner 1- A few non-expert thoughts from a fellow shopper.....So you're paying 800 over invoice for the accessories. If you really want them, you might be getting a good deal. I'm sure the dealer would enjoy the profit margin on the accessories.

I suppose it really comes down to whether or not people are really driving away with an EXL at invoice right now. If so, perhaps you should shop for invoice price on a "plain" EXL and add accessories yourself.

You can find some of your accessories at handaaccessories.com. Perhaps check there and add up the price. Not sure what window tinting and the color-matched items would cost. I'm going to buy a cargo tray and cover from the 'net because it's cheaper than the dealer.

The price I'm thinking about biting on now for an EXL, 26,330, includes just the splash guards and pinstripes. I really don't want them, but they're already on the van and that price is better than others I've been given with no acc. at all. Good luck, JR

Although I live in Virginia Beach, I just bought an EX-L w/RES in Sage Brush Pearl from Odonnell Honda in Ellicott City, MD. I highly recommend them!

I found local Virginia Beach dealers were only willing to deal down from MSRP (from ~$1000 to $1700 off) and essentially showed me the door when asking for anything more. Not to mention $399 processing fees.

After reading this board, I called Odonnell Honda on Sunday and got the EX-L w/RES for $26,980 + $490 dest. + $99 processing fee = $27,569.

Purchased a one-way ticket on Southwest for $77 and was at the dealer the next day (they are only 25 minutes from the airport). No hassles or pressure to buy extra warranties, etc.. Paperwork and vehicle were ready when I arrived and I was on the road home in ~1 hr.

Can't wait for the local dealers to call back and ask if I'm still interested in buying...

Got my 04 Sandstone EX-L for 27.5k (with splash guards) drive out at Goodson Honda west in Houston yesterday. Goodson's salesmen were great, very pleasant to deal with. Made the deal over the phone on Monday, came in signed paper work that night. Picked the vehicle up on Tues. Over all time spent at the dealer 1 hour.
Goodson Honda west got my vote.

We're picking up our '04 EX-L, Sandstone with pinstripes, wheel locks and splashguards for $26,450, in central Connecticut. We tried several dealers, including a couple of "one price, no hassle" dealers -- this was the best price by about $600.

By the way, we were going to finance through E-Loan -- received an approval in 45 minutes with a promise that the dealer would receive a wire transfer within 2 days. Long story short, E-Loan was going to make the dealer jump through a bunch of hoops, with no guarantee that the funds would be wired by the delivery date. Needless to say, the dealer wouldn't release the van without the funds, so I cancelled the loan before signing the loan docs and went with a local bank for about a .09% difference in the interest rate. I won't use E-Loan again.

    Just FYI...

I've been doing a ton of research on all the minivans and am really considering going with the Ody. While I'd love to wait until next year for the redesign, our growing family can't really wait!

So far, there are a couple of dealerships I can recommend for their price quotes (these were for an EX-L only):

    1) O'donnell Honda in Ellicott City (recommended a few posts up) had a good non-pushy attitude and gave a phone quote of $162 over invoice.

    2) Criswell Honda in Germantown gave an email quote of $210 over invoice but a slightly lower "on the road" price.

    3) Ourisman Honda in Bethesda is offering a Manager's monthly special for $25,999 ($367 over invoice).

Nice to see the prices coming down! :)

I am starting on-line negotiations in Mass for an EX Cloth with no accessories. Based on what I've seen here, I was expecting something around $25K...Bernardi came back with $26,390. When I told them that seemed quite high, I got the "high demand" response and an offer of $26,290. Yikes!

Hello all.. Just started looking at the Ody prices in the Albany, NY area. The couple of them that I have called up are offering only $500 of MSRP for a LX/EX.. I don't mind driving to other cities near by. Any dealers that you can recommend would be highly appreciated.

This is what I got from Courtesy Honda, Sanford FL.
    ----------------------------
Invoice: $24774.00 (includes destination and handling)
    Your Price: $24974.00.

This is $200.00 over invoice plus tax ,tags and dealer fee.
    ----------------------------

And after asking for the dealer fee details, I got

""Our dealer fee as almost all others are $499.00 and it covers fees such a paperwork and title work, documentary fees and cost to offset the delivery of the car and all teck work as well"".

I'm OK with the $200 markup, but not sure about the dealer fee. So, what do you think of this quote @ $25,473 + tax + tags.

    Thanks

Take the trip up to Maine Mall Motors......great to deal with..... I got an 2004 Ody. LX for 24100 out the door (5% sales tax in Maine). It was $200 over invoice and they have a $219 admin fee...... so $419 over invoice in actuality. Did everything through email. Walked in, paper work was done, very courteous and professional....no games....asked about (but didn't push) extended warranty, fabric protector, etc.

See a recent post 4807 and my post 4774.

    Hi all,
Sorry, if this question is a little too naive.

I see a lot of posts where people are buying their cars from far-off (out-of-town) dealers. In that case, can they take their vehicle to a neighborhood dealer for regular service and repairs ?
Also, how do taxes and registration work with out-of-state dealers.

    Thanks in advance
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
Yes you can take your vehicle to whatever dealer you want to. Some service depts could care less where you bought and some give preferential treatment to those who buy there.

Some dealers are well equipped to handle out of state transactions. Taxes and the such are based on where you will register the vehicle so there is no tax savings buying out of state.
  • 02mdx02mdx Member Posts: 64
Just bought a Sage Brush Pearl EX (cloth) for $24,940 plus TT&L. Ohio tax is 7%, -$500 for my trade ('90 Accord which needed lots of work and had body rust, great vehicle otherwise). Grand total out the door, $26,280, ten minute from my house.

The wife went from an '02 Avalon to the Odyssey and loves it. Our kids love it more which makes us not miss the niceties of the Avalon (which was basically a Lexus with a Toyota badge). With all the space in the Ody, I'm thinking about adding a 9" TV/DVD Combo unit between the front seats. $250 vs $2500 for the EX-L/RES.
  • aspesisteveaspesisteve Member Posts: 833
the sales floor and the service dept. are like two separate companies. The sales people could care less where you service your vehicle and the service department could care less where you purchased it.

With that said, sales departments will still use the lame tactic when trying to sell a car that they are number one in service - insinuating you will be a second class customer if you return with an out of town purchase. No need to fall for that.

I remember my local (small allocation high priced) Honda dealer trying to justify his higher price by telling me their service department was tops and they had BBQ's for their customers. All that meant to me was I could eat $200 hot dogs at a car dealership while my oil was changed at $50 a pop. No thanks.

I don't see much on here about leasing, but I will offer my lease numbers for anyone who might be interested.

I just closed the deal a week ago in Cleveland on a 2004 midnight blue EXL-RES. The price was $27,970, about $400 over invoice. The money factor was .00137 (about 3% interest rate) and the residual after 48 months is 53%, or $16K and some change (I can't remember the exact number). I didn't put any money down, I didn't even pay the tax or first month's payment. It is all rolled into my monthly payments, which are $352 each month.

At the same time, I am coming to the end of my lease on a 2001 Odyssey EX. I was going to trade it in, but the dealer only offered me my payoff amount. That would have been very decent on any other vehicle, but as we all know, the Odyssey is worth more. I decided to sell it on my own. I have found a buyer and will close the deal tomorrow. He will buy if for $18,700. I would like to see anyone with a Ford/Dodge/Chevy minivan with an original MSRP around $26,500 accomplish that.

Just closed on 2004 EX-L. Negotiated via email, and phone calls. Started at $27,023 plus sales tax and title/license at first dealer (internet).
Purchased from 2nd dealer for $25,810 including doc fee and destination plus sales tax and title/license (internet then calls).
Victory Honda, Monroe MI. Twice I thanked them for their time and ended the call because the price was too high. Twice they called back and came down (finally!) to $25,810.
