When shopping for my Odyssey, here is what I put in the initial email out:
"I'm looking for a 03 EX-L. I don't want ANY dealer add-ons. I will only negotiate off of the factory invoice price, not the dealer invoice or MSRP. Please provide me with the colors and availability you currently have with the price, destination charge and any other charges that you may apply such as a documentation fee."
This took care of many back and forth emails because I told them what I would pay for and how I wanted it quoted. It allowed me to negotiate one line - price of the vehicle - and not the other stuff such as dealer add-ons. Edmunds gives you the destination charge, the dealer should be quoting you the exact same dollar amount for that.
Also - if you are going to buy the extended warranty coverage from the dealer, remember that this price too is negotiable! I was quoted $1175 and got them down to $925.
I hope this was helpful - good luck!
In the dealers that I emailed, 3 came back with better prices. I negotiated a bit more in email, picked the dealer that had the best price (and had the color I wanted!) which for me was $800 over factory invoice (I bought a 2003 in March). The price was good/very competitive for my area at that time.
When I went to the dealer I printed out the email which quoted me the price, doc fee, destination fee, tax. That is exactly what I paid when I got to the dealer. No other numbers.
Thanks.
I just closed on my purchase on a 2004 Odyssey EX last nite. The factory invoice on this is $24,745 and I paid $150 over factory Invoice. My "Walk out" price is $26,700 including TT&L. I asked the dealer to fax me the "Retail Buyer's Order" with the VIN number and stock number. He faxed it to me and I paid him a deposit on my credit card. The dealership is actually 80 miles away from my home and the salesman is delivering the van at my home on Monday along with the needed paperwork.... I don't think I can't beat this deal. This actually beats the deal I had mentioned in my earlier message. The key is to look for dealers in the suburbs (i.e.nowhereland!). I had been talking to 4 remote dealers (within 100 miles) and they were all pretty close to this pricing but slightly higher!
Also, keep in mind that this is the end of month and third quarter. Some of the dealers are being very aggressive to hit their sales goals and will give away deals at invoice plus minimal profits. If they hit their quarterly goals, those dealers actually get 2-4% incentives on their total quarterly sales. So they will are willing to go after volume sales in these last few days of September. Go get them for the price you want to pay !
'Nuff said!
adalal - email another dealer. I had a few that told me the same thing. I kept shopping around until I got a price that was competitive. I was able to save myself $1700.00 that way. Remember however, that the "deals" are going to be had on the '03's. I don't know how much wiggle room a dealer likes to give on new model years. As for the dealer add-ons - once they have them on, sometimes it is difficult to get them to take their 'investment' off the price. Things like cargo mats, etc. you can pickup off of http://www.handaaccessories.com
I did have to compromise on color, first choice was silver but the only one available had DVD which I didn't want. Ended up with our second choice, sand, which the wife really likes and is growing on me.
compares well with Edmund's and KBB used price.
Today's newspaper has an ad for 2003 new for
$308/month for 48 months with $5000 down
i.e. $19,784. Fine print is only 5 available at
this price. Sounds too good to be true only to
get me to the showroom.
But people rightly point out that since sales taxes vary widely they prefer to see your out the door price that doesn't include taxes or other fees that only apply in your location.
Have fun shopping - sounds like you have your ducks in a row. I think I'd call the local dealer once more late on the 30th and give them one last chance though :-)

Do be careful of "doc fees" however. It seems some stores are now slipping in some hefty fees here.

As I mentioned in my earlier message, I bought the 2004 model at $150 over factory invoice in central TX. I bought EX-Cloth, but the dealership was willing sell me EX-L as well at couple of hundred dollars over Factory invoice. Also, since the dealership is 80 miles from my home, they are actually having the van delivered to my home. Malikjb, If you are interested in more details, let me know.
Good luck shoppers!
I live in tulsa local dealer in bartleville has has res EXL listed for weeks in Tusla World for
$27,775. Email me at jcro3717@aol.com for 800 number and great POC there. I have bought 5 no hassle cars up there. have you heard of them?

We feel pretty good about the purchase, and figure we saved about $1500 off of prices around here (central VA), even with the shipping. We almost had a better deal with Criswell in Maryland but it fell through. Look out for those guys, they jerked us around quite a bit.
We are now going through the agony of waiting for our car, as the shipping company is taking their sweet time. I was surprised their are no discussion boards on that subject (that I can find), especially with so many people buying cars and having them shipped these days.
Give 'em hell and happy shopping!

I got this deal Greenville, SC at Breakaway Honda dealership.
In fact, they did not have a "Honda" DVD entertainment system and they have installed an after market (Audiovox) system which is absolutely great !
For starters, it has a :
a) 10.00 inch LCD (Honda brand has only 6/7 inch )
b) DVD player can play MP3 files and
c) Built-in TV tuner.
If you all get a chance, and if your dealer can do it, ask for after-market DVD system. It has a whole lot more features for the SAM price and Warranty !
Cheers.

The price I am getting is: $28965....
Any advise..?
Dealers are less likely to negotiate when they think you are just price shopping and may not even buy from them. If you go in there ready to buy, they will come down close to $28 to get it done. Good luck!
BTW.. All dealers have "doc fees" or processing fees"... Yada yada yada. Just tell them your bottom line price including all fees, except for tag/tax/title.... They usually will try to tack that on after the sale and call it standard.....
