2004 EX-L $300 under invoice
$25,332 plus $490 destination charge
We have a link on the main edmunds.com page you may want to look at for listing the van for sale:
Sell Your Car

Can anyone tell me what the dealer's motivation could really have been?
How long it will take for the dealer to get your car registered and send you the license plates ? What is your take home price on the odyssy [with sales tax ] ? Can you give a break down ?. It will help lot of others.

One dealer quoted me invoice price, but has yet to have one in stock to sell me. I called them again this morning, just in case, and they actually suggested another dealership. I asked if I would get the same price and they replied "you might even get it lower". So, I called the other dealer, who just a few days ago did not have one in stock. They just got one off the delivery truck this morning.
I made an appointment to see the internet sales manager, saw the van but was unable to drive it because it had not been setup by the shop yet, and signed the papers. They got me a better financing rate than I had setup myself and even sold it under invoice!
They will be delivering it to me in the morning.
This is what I paid:
EX-L w/ navi $27,748.00
doc fee $ $45.00
Plus CA tax (8.25%) and license = 2522.92
BTW, the $26,500 is not a bad price for an EX-L.
Jcuth, your deal at 26261 with mudguards for the EX-L is basically invoice price and I would jump on that in a second. Again, is it a straight purchase, trade, or lease? Remember, everything is negotiable, except for tax, title and license. Everything else goes above the bottom line that you will pay, regardless of what the dealer calls it. If they "have" to charge a $299 doc fee, say fine, and lower your "price" by $299. Please let us know the details on the purchase.
ajnbaxter: $26,800 for the EX-L is only 678 above invoice, which in CA would be a pretty competitive price. Again, are you doing a straight purchase, lease, and is there any trade involved. Without that type of info its hard to say what the actual price is.
I'd offer 300 over invoice for a straight purchase deal. That is what I'm trying to get in my area. No deal yet, but I'm willing to wait.
Also, the other thing to note is any 'charges' that might come up when dealing with the Finance Manager. Be sure and read the following post in the Questions About Financing New Vehicles discussion. The post contains some links to articles that are extremely helpful.
Good luck!
I called the internet/fleet department, asked for the price and was told $150 under invoice. (he later told me that the internet/fleet department in almost any dealership will give you the best price and had I just walked in and asked for any sales person I would have had to start haggling from the sticker price).
I was very skeptical that they would honor this price when I arrived and just a day or two earlier they did not even have one to sell me. They called me back 10 minutes later and told me that they just had one arrived that morning. I wanted to go immediately to purchase it because I had waited 1 hour after talked to a dealer on the phone a week earlier and when I arrived they had been sold, but the salesman was booked with appointments until the afternoon. He assured me he would hold it for me and I made an afternoon appointment. When I got there the van had a huge sign in the window that said SOLD and had my name on it.
The whole process was very easy. They even beat my credit union financing rate by more than a point! The finance guy did try to sell me a few extras, but I just said no and he didn't push it.
Because it had just arrived that morning it was not ready to drive home. The next morning the salesman and drove it to my house and showed me how to use everything in it. It was great that I didn't need to bother a friend or family member for a ride back to the dealer.
The EX-L RES with destination is, I believe $27,480. If you can get yours for this selling price and then add tax and license fees only, I think your getting a deal that you will be able to sleep well with. Just don't add on anything else like paint protection, low jack, or an extended warranty, or any other options. Have the dealer e-mail you a break down of the quote that includes the selling price and all other fees. Your quote should specify the total out the door price. To make sure that they don't change anything on you at the last minute, you can also have them include a VIN# so that you are sure that the vihicle you agree on is there, and that it's the one you are going to go pick up. I paid $28,300 in Woodland Hills not including Tax and Lic fees because at the time dealerships in Oxnard were not going to be able to get the 04 Odyssey EX-L RES in Sandstone for atleast another two weeks and I didn't want to wait. I did finance the paint protection, low jack, and 6yr 75,000 mile warranty that raised my payments by only $31.00 but when all was said and done I was now financing around $32,800 wich did rais my finance charge for my loan significantly. Follow my advice and you will surely see that you are getting a very good deal. Good Luck, please write back, I would like to hear how everything works out for you. Thanks in advance.
Actually, at some dealerships, you might find someone has already added a roofrack, maybe even added mud flaps, and tossed in a cargo tray on the LXs on the lot.
Do the dealers in your area even have the LX? Finding it in the color / interior you want may be a challenge.
My suggestion to you was use the information from the web-site(s) to assist in determining the value to you (this is somewhat subjective) for the options and if you thought you might want to try installing them yourself, or having the dealer do it it you went with an Odyssey over another vechicle.
As I said, the roofrack looked like something I could do if I had time. I'm sure I could install the CD-player too. Trickier would be the remote keyless entry. The instructions are on the website I pointed you to.
As far as the latter, remember that on the LX, the sliding doors are manual. So, what does the keyless do for you on the LX, for one thing, it allows you to lock and unlock at a distance.
Convenient sure. Myself, I note it would be most convenient when I drive, and I get my little ones out of the car, and the last door I close is the slider on the passenger side. On the LX, you can (and I do) sometimes come around to the other side of the car, open the slider, then open the front passenger and then press "Lock" (as opposed to using the key), get the last one out, then close the slider. Then the car locks. I could of course use the key to lock the car once the kids are out. So yes, there is a convenience factor. That tango gets to be a hasstle.
You might want to ask your Insurance Agent, as there might be another cost benefit to having the keyless option (alarm function?).
Have you called or emailed a dealer asking if there are any in the "system" with some or all of those items on it? Or have you even asked for the pricing on the "convenience" pkg? I cannot remember if the Consumer Reports report provided numbers for that - that's why I said, I used the websites to determine values of the add-ons.
Hope it helps.
Dealer prices will vary.

Honda Odyssey EX-L; $25,262
Delivery $ 490
Document fee $ 98
Tire fee (Indiana) $ 1.25
6% Indiana sls tax $ 1575.66
Total $27934.66
Since we could get a variable home equity loan at 4% tied to the Prime rate, we decided to take the 3.9% financing for 60 months offered by Honda. We financed $22,000 and put the remaining $5935.91 on our credit card since we get money back and we have the money sitting in our credit union. So we will get back 2% of the $5935 or about $119. I'll take every last penny. The finance manager told us we could only put $4,000 on our credit card, the all of a sudden it was $4,500. After consulting with his boss, he said OK. We have great credit, I think a 732 on the scale they use.
We did not take the extended warranty, but the Platinum extended warranty was offered at $1275.
There was one odd thing that occured. When we went into talk with the finance manager he told us we would get a "better" deal by financing through Citibank instead of Honda. It would cost us $120 but we would get 3.71%. When he ran the numbers, it would have cost us about $6 per month to go with the supposed "better" deal. Be careful. We made our purchase at Penske Honda on 96th street in Indianapolis. They were patient and let us take a few test drives and allowed us to pick our color. If you have any questions or comments, please offer them!
We looked for a used 2003 Odyssey and searched as far as Cincinnati and Chicago, but all the used certified 2003's were MORE than what we could get a 2004, so we went new.
I hope I don't have to purchase another car for sometime, but I would appreciate hearing from any of you as to what I could have done differently. Thanks and safe driving!
I financed $13,800 at 4.29% for 60 mo., borrowed $5000 from a relative until my '94 Accord sold (and I could pay them back), was given $5000 by another relative as an inheritance, and threw in the few hundred dollar difference. My deal was $24,100 out the door on a Sage '04 LX.
The interest on the loan came to $1331 which, even though its a decent rate, bothers me. I've always disliked paying any kind of interest. So, I did a balance transfer to my credit card of $6300 at 0% for 12 mo. The remaining balance of $5307 (already made one payment) will cost me $254 in interest and I'll have the title in 26 months instead of 60. Of course, I'll be trying to pay this thing off as soon as possible, but I'll probably have to do another balance transfer at the end of the year. It's a bit risky, but to me it's worth it knowing I'll likely save $1100.
Price including delivery 26241
Processing fee 199
VA Tax, tags 907
Total, $27,347
Added extended warrantee, bumper to bumper, zero deductible for up to 7 yrs or 100,000 miles. ($1295.00+ tax).
We looked at the Sienna and were ready to buy but after reading many of the comments on the discussion boards, we were swayed to the Honda because the 04 Sienna was the first model with it’s new design (which could have some issues). The Odyssey is so nice and clean,, I hate to have the kids in it.

re: buddyzuniga--I went to a dealer in Simi Valley, and they would not go below invoice at all. $500 over invoice (27,470 +500)is as low as they would go. I'm emailing the manager the quote.
Even if the 26,880 does not include the destination charge of 490, the quote sounds very good. However there are some extenuating circumstances surrounding the Simi Valley quote and I was hoping they would do right by me. More to come if they don't come through.
So far so good - I found some rust spots inside one of the headlights when I looked it over in the light of day and they promised to fix that.
Here are the details:
Price paid for EX-L-RES in Northern Cal
