ispy, my best quote so far has been from Honda Cars of Boston. The quote was $1510.00 off of $28510.00 = $27,000.00 on a EX cloth. Doc fees are $120.00 then MA tax. Kelly Honda in Salem and Honda Barn in N.Reading quoted MSRP $28,510.00. Bernardi in Natick was $28,110.00.
Bedard Bros. in Cheshire and Honda North in Danvers were $27,510.00.
These are internet quotes. I have let them all know that I have a better offer. Some have budged and others not at all. I haven't gotten down to business yet. Still comparing to Sienna LE w/ BZ pkg. I've had a quote of $26,995.00 on the Sienna. Decisions decisions. I'll probably make my final decision @ the end of the month. If you buy before me, let me know how it goes and I'll do the same. Good luck

West Broad Honda in Richmond. Originally planned to buy in the DC Metro Area, but the prices were a little higher and the waiting lists were mounting.

My wife and I put a deposit on a Nighthawk Black EX-L NAVI/RES at a dealer outside of DC back in Sept and were told that we could expect the vehicle in 4-6 weeks.
Two weeks ago I was told that the vehicle we ordered had a VIN and that typically vehicles are delivered 2 weeks after the VIN is assigned. Today I was told that the dealer is trying to make a trade with another dealership for the vehicle that we want and hopes to have it by the third week in Dec.
Out of frustration my wife contacted another dealer who says that according to Honda there are only three Black EX-L NAVI/RES allotted to the DC area in the coming months; one, supposedly ours, going to the dealer holding our deposit. My wife was also told that these vehicles are not scheduled to be made until the second week of Jan 2005 so delivery would be in Feb at the earliest.

Has anyone else been having a similar experience?

Yep, that's a quote I got. Another quote was 35,000 and another is 38,000. And all from dealers with in 60 miles of each other.

Yes, the same thing happened to us. You should be able to click unsubscribe to stop these e-mails. Yesterday we drove 3 hours to The Honda Store in Youngstown Ohio and put a downpayment on an Ocean Mist EXL with NAV & RES. Very pleased with this dealership! Able to negotiate a fair price with the Internet Sales Manager over the phone without her checking with someone to see if the price was ok. Absolutely no attempt to sell us options. She was able to do some trading around to get us this van per our request in mid January. Paid $1064 over invoice including destination fee. Reasonable doc & title fees.

Sepa thanks for the information about buying the Odyssey in Philadelphia. I am willing to travel to pick up the car. I refuse to pay sticker price which is over 12% invoice and that's crazy! Thanks for helping me out since I am ready to purchase.

I purchased a Silver Pearl with Grey Leather EX-L from Honda Cars of Rock Hill in SC. I haggled a little, but they were not willing to move much. I ended up paying $30,000 ($810 below MSRP), but they "threw in" wheel locks and splash guards. They showed me the inventory list that they were expecting at their dealership, and there were only 5 more in that color coming in over the next two months (remember, almost all Auto makers shut down for two weeks around Christmas). I was not willing to wait any longer, so I bought it right away and took delivery. It is definitely worth the wait if you choose, but in the end, if you gotta have it, get it!!!!

Good luck. I had been a long time GM owner, and almost always paid less than $100 over invoice. But not with Honda. They are really marketed towards a different type of buyer. I bought my '05 Odyssey EX-L for about $1000 below MSRP ($810 off MSRP + Wheel locks and Splash Guards thrown in), and I even attmepted to leave because I wanted a better deal. In the end, the dealer felt strong that they could sell to somebody else and make even more money than the $3,000 +++ on me. I caved, because the vehicle is just awesome! I suggest that if you want the Odyssey, try and get the best deal of course, but do not threaten to leave. The dealers at this point don't care!!! And, as we get closer to Christmas, there will be fewer vans available because the Honda plant in Lincoln, AL will be shut down for two weeks in December. Check out the True Cost to Own analysis on this Website. It really hit home with me when comparing the Ody to others in its' class. Good luck again. Let us know how you do.

I got all the informations that I needed to know. By comparing to Dcs or Scoutleader's informations, you got a good deal from Bedford Bros Honda. I have E-mailed Bedford Bros Honda. The seleswoman gave me $950.00 off the MRSP. I want to know that how much did you get the price from them? Would you please let me know the breakdown price please? I am looking forward to buy EX-L. Thank you very much both of you (Dos and Scoutleader). Those are very helpfull informations, and save my times to check with every dealer. Once again, thank you very much.

Quita - Update on Philly prices. You might try Sloane in NE Phila - Someone had posted that they were willing to do $1000 off MSRP (maybe you can even bargain better?). Try to speak with the internet salesman. Good luck.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,569
from my looking in the Phila area (the jersey side), the internet quotes are still likely to be MSRP, but they do have vans in stock. If (the big if) you find something in stock, as opposed to a 3 month pre-order, you can negotiate.

You have to be prepared to make a legitimate offer, and do so real haggling. You'll get the "hot item, MSRP, etc." spiel, but if you are serious and firm, and somewhat reasonable, you should be able to make a deal.

Don't walk in and ask for invoice. Just Bobst on in, offer, say, 1K off MSRP take it or leave it, and you should leave happy.

Sorry Cheyenne, thought you were in Wyoming. Try the dealer in Laramie, quoted me $36500 out the door but it would have to be ordered from the factory, managed $250 better in Greeley (touring, dvd/nav black, black leather. Quoted $37000 out the door from dealer near Mall of Georgia, and $37250ish from around Denver

After much agonizing, my wife and I have decided to go with an Ody over a Sienna. We're in no particular hurry, and it looks like to get the one we want (Touring, Navi/RES, Midnight Blue) we'll have to order it. I'd like to shop around an offer of invoice +5%, noting that the deal requires minimal effort on the part of the dealer and, as I'll pick up the van the day it arrives, virtually no inventory cost.

In the absence of any supply shortage (real or factory imposed) this should be a no-brainer. A couple of dealers have told me, however, that Honda is currently rationing the touring models, and I know that the demand is quite high. I can see this making my offer much weaker.

Anyone know anything about rationing? Does it apply to specific customer orders or just general dealer stock purchases? If it isn't real, (or even if it is), any chance of making the above offer work? I'm in the Chicago area, but willing to drive a couple of hours to find the right price.

    Thanks,
    Eric

With widespread talk about having to wait for the Ody and 2wk shut down of the Assembly plant pushing the build date further, how can people who have shelled out deposits be certain that the dealer won't sell their vehicle to someone willing to spend extra. I am not paranoid and I have not lost faith in the world...but there must be a check system as to the allotment or assignment of vehicles coming from the factory available to the consumer and not just the dealers. I rather not constantly call the salesman or dealership.
    Any opinions? suggestions?
  • pkapka Member Posts: 56
They are probably waiting and wont know until late dec and mid jan. That's just my guess.....

Just bought my Black '05 Oddy EX-L in Ohio for 2K below MSRP. The dealer agreed to my price without too much hassle and they have been great to work with (others refused to match). They also threw in a free $100 gas card and some other goodies. I take delivery on Monday, hopefully it is as good as I expect it to be. Hope that this helps other Ohio buyers negotiate.
  • heywood1heywood1 Member Posts: 851
Honda may be spinning this as 'rationing,' when it's really scaled-back production. As I've said here before, the marketplace seems to have determined that the EX-L is the best value of the Ody line-up. Honda may be shifting production toward EX-L's, and producing fewer Tourings than planned. If they would offer EX-L's with adjustable pedals and a power lift gate, there would be no reason to make the Touring model at all.

Drove about 75 miles to get our Ody. We wanted a Sagebrush Pearl/Ivory and we had heard that as of yesterday there were only 2 in California--1 in Northern and the other at Norm Reeves Honda in Cerritos. We had gone up there Monday and were about to take delivery of a Sagebrush/Ivory EXL, but without Nav/RES. We decided to hold off because we wanted the extra toys and were willing to wait. We were told that there would be a few coming in, maybe by the weekend and the salesperson would be in touch. This store does not accept deposits so we were very dependent on the salesperson coming through for us. We received a call yesterday morning that our van was there and went in the evening to pick it up.
    MSRP plus destination ($34,610)
    $45 doc fees
    Sales tax ($2685)
    Estimated license fees ($282)
    And a tire fee ($5)
    Drive away price of $37,627
They were pretty fair with our trade in, 2003 Pilot still under warranty.
I have to say the drive home was very fun for all passengers. My daughter was having fun with the XM Radio and my husband was playing with the Navi. It's a beautiful van and the color combo is great.

Just purchased my '05 EX Ody for $25k including wheel locks and splash guards.

Purchased at Zimbrick in Madison, WI. They are willing to deal the Odyies on the lot. They have several tourings in Desert Rock, also a few EXLs with RES/NAV.
  • psuwifepsuwife Member Posts: 29
I was one of the people who ordered on the 20 of October for a Touring with NAV. So far I have the VIN# but not the van yet. I am in PA and have to drive up to get the van. I will post a full report with all the details as soon as I get position of the van. The latest I heard today was that my van is in transit somewhere and should arrive at their dealershipe.

When: No idea(do NOT make any plans yet was their response)

Why: No van yet is their standard answer.

    How funny...

We just bought a Sagebrush Pearl Ivory Nav/RES from Norm Reeves Cerritos yesterday. We had a deposit on it since September 24th and the fleet manager snagged it for us when it rolled off the truck. We knew it was due that day, so we went in the minute they called.

Paid MSRP but it's exactly what we wanted and pretty hard to find, as you pointed out. No complaints at all. Everyone in the family loves it.
  • bbug1bbug1 Member Posts: 76
Hey you! How did you get to leave a deposit? Being that we're down in Temecula and it's a little over an hours drive (if traffic is clear) I had wanted to leave a deposit, but they said that has created too many problems.
Our salesguy called me yesterday at 10 to let us know our van was in and he said he's set it aside for us. I tried calling him back and had to leave a message and when he called me back he said that he was sorry, but the van had been sold--but another one was due within the week. I was bummed and started to call around to see if I could find another one. Everywhere I called said that we were looking till mid December but they were all willing to take a deposit. So I called back NR in Cerritos and talked to the sales manager and wanted to know why they would set aside a car for us and then before we could get there, sell it and without the advantage of leaving a deposit, should I just avoid that store? He apologized and went into action. Turns out there was one there. You didn't happen to turn this one down? It was still covered in plastic most everywhere, but my husband still insisted on checking it over with a flashlight (it was about 8:30pm) and we found a dent and a bad scrape on the back hatch--and the hatch won't close unless you slam it dowm hard. If these were'nt so hard to find we would have waited, but of course the repair is on the due bill. I will update on the repair job.
This is a beautiful color combo, isn't it?
Overall, it was a smooth transaction and although it was late when we made it home, it was nice to have a slightly long trip so we could play with all the gizmos---smiling the whole way home!
    We have Ody siblings!

Well I tried this in Tampa. The dealer here was Clearwater Honda, who was at most a few hundred below MSRP. Anyone else in the Tampa Bay area get a good deal from the dealers here? From what I have seen, they all seem incapable of making good deals. The saleman in Hondalan (Tampa) coolly remarked that they were getting paid a few grand above MSRP - these minivans were that hot! I have a hard time believing that.
  • saocsaoc Member Posts: 22
Took delivery today of our touring and paid ~1200 off MSRP. Got it from Park Honda in Akron OH. They were great to deal with. I thought the price was fair. They also discounted the accessories I wanted. The hood deflector isn't shipping yet from Honda. According to the salesman this was a difficult combo to find. He said that they seem to be having trouble moving Touring without NAV\RES. Makes sense to me once you hit a certain price point it doesn't really matter.

Bought the Honda after 4 Chrysler T&C over the last 13 years. Thought the Honda was clearly better overall even though there are some quirks with how they package things. The Sienna was real close but I hate our local Toyota dealer.

Hopefully the Honda will hold up like the Chryslers. We were one of the lucky ones who never had any major problems with ours. My brother bought one and had nothing but trouble with his T&C.
  • surferjoesurferjoe Member Posts: 18
We had our EX-L out the door by about 6:00, so you must have been looking at another one.

In order to get down a solid deposit and not get yanked around at this dealer, go directly to the fleet managers. It sounds like your sales guy was trying to sell you the one that fleet was holding for us. They took all our information over the phone in advance and marked the car as sold before we showed up. We were paying cash, so it was pretty easy for them to do this.

Good luck with the repair. I was able to look at the inventory list, and I don't think there is another one exactly like our two due for quite a long while. If you were as particular as us on the color and model, you made a good decision to take the one you saw.

We love ours so far. We also have a 2000 Odyssey at home, so our garage is pretty darn full of vans.

Your experience with Tampa Hondaland was similar to mine. I would not deal with this bunch. (See my posting #6866).
I would continue to e-mail Florida Honda Dealers and consider driving 3 or more hours if necessary to get a fair and honest deal. Best of luck !

We purchased a '05 Touring for $32K from John Eagle Honda in Houston, TX. That's over $3000 off MSRP. I gave an initial offer of $31K (armed with a printout of Consumer Reports approx. $30K wholesale).

I stuck with the $31K firm until the sales manager came out to tell me how short the "supply" was on the Oddyssey and how great a vehicle it was. They were showing me printouts of Edmunds and the front page showing that many were paying MSRP. I told him I didn't care. I was not paying MSRP and that we would either wait until the "supply" was better or go buy a Sienna. He also tossed in the 3-cylinder mileage advantage and all the things his dealership would do (roadside assistance, etc). First I told him the 1MPG advantange would take forever to payoff, even at today's prices. Also, I offered that while the customer service polices of his dealership were nice, I would not pay extra for them.

He countered with $33.8K. I told him that I'd buy it for $32K but if he came back with $32.1K the deal wouldn't work. (In reflection, I wish I'd said $31.5K). He went away and came back a few minutes later with a "yes".

The only other things we bought were a cargo mat and cross bars for the roof rack. Got both at 10% above their cost.

We let them finance the deal for 4.99% (hope to have it paid off well before the end of the term) although I handled this negotiation (in reality, not much negotiation) outside of the price.

Only other thing I paid besides TTL was a $89 fee for something. Can't recall what it was. They wanted to charge $700 or something like that for the window etching after we negotiated the $32K, but I refused, so they charged me $70 and dropped the price of the van to $31,930.

Overall, I think I got a good deal for a brand new model. Hopefully it is as reliable as our current 10-year old Toyota and our prior Accord.

All-in-all, I enjoyed dealing with John Eagle. They seemed to be fair and perfectly willing to do what they could to sell me the car.

    Good luck to everyone else!

I would suggest getting a membership w/Costco for $50 (or whatever it costs - it's close to that), then utilizing their auto service. Once you have a membership, go to www.Costco.com then to their services/auto sales link. You enter your zip and what type of vehicle you're looking for, and they give you a dealer in your area, and who to contact. I'm in CT and just did this for the '05 EXL and the Costco price was just over $2,000 off MSRP w/no haggle. What a great way to shop.

I just bought an EX-L in PA (Sloane Honda). Paid $29000+tax and tags for the EX-L on Silver. Documentation fee ($50), destination already included in the price above. I believe this is around $1500 under MSRP.

29K is a good price, and $1,800 off sticker. If our local dealer offered that this weekend with no add-ons, I would buy on the spot.

They said that they were expecting 7 Hondas on the truck and 4 have arrived. I am wondering if anybody on this site has received their Odys bought through Bedard Bros of Cheshire MA?
  • flgatorflgator Member Posts: 2
Just bought my wife an ’05 Ody EX-L Res in Midnight Blue this weekend from Butler Honda in Milledgeville, GA. We paid $1100 over invoice which included the mandatory $399 GA doc fees and nearly $200 in requested accessories. No trade-in involved and Costco/Capital One financing. The internet sales manager and his assistant sales manager were great to work with, and the transaction went smoothly with no surprises. We live in the Atlanta area and had to drive 100 miles or so to pick it up, but it was definitely worth the drive. We’re very happy with the van so far and it came just in time for our annual Thanksgiving trip.

When I mentioned the possibility of future sales to people who follow the Edmunds and Odyclub boards, the sales manager said this was a one-time good deal. But he also said that he will continue to be price aggressive for those that want to make a deal. It’s a rather small dealer with probably less than 6-10 Odys in stock at any one time. Ours had been on the lot for nearly 60 days, which is probably why I received the deal I offered. If they have what you’re looking for, I recommend you give them a try. Tell them you saw my post on Edmunds, maybe they’ll send me a hat or something – but I doubt it!

I’ve been a long time lurker (since the early days of the Ody Future Models thread) and I want to say thanks to all of you who have contributed to this conversation. It’s definitely been an education in car buying. And a special thanks to “MartyB” for sharing his advice and experience with his purchase via private e-mail. If you haven’t picked your van up yet, you should definitely checkout the customer acceptance checklist by “alexmish” at Odyclub – very handy and thorough.

I know this is getting long, but I also wanted to pass on a few things I learned about buying here in the Atlanta area. It may apply to your situation too.

    1. Don’t waste much of your time calling the local “moderate to high volume” dealers for good deals on Odys. They seem to be focused on high profit margin rather than high volume at the moment. Of course there’s nothing wrong with that if you can get it. One salesman even told me that many of the local dealers regularly “coordinate” their sales discounts so that no one is giving unacceptably large discounts. From my experience, that appears to be true. $500-1000 under MSRP seems to be the rule.

    2. The small rural dealers with less inventory and an even smaller customer base are willing to deal. I think other buyers’ experiences on this board also support this assertion.

    3. Tourings without RES/NAV don’t seem to be moving very well (at least around here). Everyone I spoke with had several to choose from – perhaps more than they wanted. Make them an offer and you may be surprised at what they will accept.

    4. Search the forums for problems encountered by previous buyers (QA problems, wind noise, over-inflated tires, ABS recall, etc.). Obviously, your best chance to get these things addressed is prior to the deal signing. Once I negotiated the deal by phone, I sent the dealer a whole list of things to check out before I arrived to pick up the van - basically cut and pasted postings directly from the forums into a text file and e-mailed it to them. Made for an easy sell-off once I arrived.

    Good luck with your purchase.

    psuwife,

I'm checking your postings very carefully and glad to see you are still on the site. I did put my order in with Bedard on the last day they were honoring the $950 over invoice. I don't need delivery until March 29th at the latest, but I will feel a whole lot better once I hear that your transaction went smooth.

    Keep us posted.

Myself and my friend bought Honda Care Extended Warranty online (We live in CA) from www.curryhondacare.com .

Nice website who sells Honda Care waranty. Cheapest I ever found. We both paid $920 each for our 05 Odyssey's (EX-L/NAV/RES). $0 deductible.

I am a bit suspicious about the dealership offerring so cheap warranty and they say its backed by American Honda. Another point is that that they quote same price for all models of Odyssey's

Can anybody verify it. IF that's genuine, I would recommend everybody.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
Curry Honda is an authorized Honda dealer in Chicopee, MA that has seems to have created a nice little additional business - selling HondaCare warranties at a low markup. Basically all they do is push some paper and make a little money on each one. They make it up in volume and I wouldn't be suprised that it helps them achieve some goals set by Honda.

    Good Luck.

I just called the Costco 800# and was told that the Odyssey is an "excluded" line and not subject to any prearranged discounts. I was told this exclusion is nationwide but I'm not sure if that is accurate - I'm in the Pacific NW. Did you negotiate your own deal with the local Costco dealership or was this a prearranged price you received?
  • vanpadrevanpadre Member Posts: 4
Wow - you paid $25K flat? This price is below invoice...

I picked up my van Friday -- Sage brush pearl with ivory interior EXL with NAV/RES. The best deal was through Curran Honda in Jacksonville via Costco. Although the Costco "price" is MSRP they were willing to work with me. Have been haggling with Florida and Georgia dealers since September. The internet sales manager and the general sales manager were more willing to work a deal than anyone else -- "to keep the Costco customers happy." Regardless, I got $1250 off MSRP -- despite the "mandatory" $499 doc fee.

Overall a good experience. The Internet manager was truly a nice guy and we love the van.

Regarding financing, they matched my costco rate, which my USAA would not do.

I found out that Florida insurance plans are not negotiable for extended care -- is this true. I suppose this is why curryhondacare excludes Florida residents.

Anyway, this forum has been extremely helpful especially on this negotiation -- I told them to go to the site and see that everyone else in the country was paying below MSRP except Florida. As if the hurricanes have not hosed us enough this year. Good luck!!!!!
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
IIRC Florida law requires that only insurance reps licensed in the state of Florida can sell extended warranties and that the selling price is fixed by the state. Hence no discounting and no out of state buying.

Try Southbay Honda, San Leandro Honda (the best i know of). It may also be worthwhile double checking with AutoWest Honda (Fremont) also.
I'd also recommend Selma Honda (3 hrs from Bay area)

Im looking for an EX-L van, San Leandro guy seems to be ready for the prices I quote. He was willing to match my price (for the models he would be getting in Jan). I have decided to wait till the holiday season to cash in on any deals..

Post more details on your experience

Estimated delivery for my Ocean Mist EX-L w/ Navi+RES was mid to late January, although they said they would continue to search other dealers for it ... they said they would be calling me next week with a build date, will post if they do/what they say ...

Now here's a question: say I inspect the car, find it acceptable and drive to my home in another state. If there's a problem with the car, can I bring it to a dealer close to my home or do I have to bring back to Bedard?
