We live in the SF area and are willing to pick up an LX at MSRP or $1000 above (if possible). Any leads on dealers who are willing to work with you?

I am looking for an EX in Southern Calif. and there are waiting lists at each dealer. Most dealers are selling at MSRP and no markups. If there are no markups, what is the catch? For example, EX's sticker price was $26,500 plus accec., no dealer m.u. What should I be looking for when the salesman introduces me to the finance mgr?

We purchased a 2001 Odyssey EX last week (we also have a 1999 EX delivered exactly 2 years ago after a two month wait) at Honda of Mentor, Ohio. As seems to be the case in Cleveland, they had a number of EX's available on the lot.

Though we went to the dealership, I happened to match up Gabrielle Oelbracht, who is responsible for their internet sales. She started at the dealership in November 2000 and began establishing their internet presence. Anyway, she has done a number of internet deals, including an Odyssey picked up by Michigan buyer and an S2000(?) shipped to California. Unlike my experience in 1999, this one was straightforward, and I sense that their internet process is straightforward as well.

    Information is as follows: www.hondaofmentor.com; e-mail: hondaofmentor_1@ureach.com.

Picked up our 2001 GG LX on the 20th Jan. A 3-4 week wait turned into 6 weeks. Bottom line came to $25954, which included Complete Roof Rack, ATF transmission cooler (plan to do some towing), Remote Keyless Entry, Cargo Net, Splash Guards, 7 year/100K/0 deductible Honda Care warranty, delivery, and doc fee. Basically paid slighly under MSRP with a few items (net/spash guards) thrown in. My earlier posting was $300 off as I forgot to include my deposit. Drove 130 miles to a dealership in Southern Alabama. We live in NW Florida and our local dealer wouldn't budge on the "appearance package," which cost about $800 over MSRP. Its basically a wax job and pinstriping, and dealer even said this includes the floor mats--(What a deal for a standard item on the 2001 LX's). Needless to say, they didn't get our business. I emailed and faxed, those without emails, to any dealer within about 2-3 hours distance and let the dealers tell me there best price for the items above. I started out by telling them I knew the MSRP, holdback, invoice, and cost of parts from online sources etc. I thought our deal was pretty good until started hearing about persons in Indiana and Kentucky getting for $500 or more below MSRP. We aren't in a large metropolitan area and prices are less competitive. We missed out on getting a van sooner for a slightly lower cost because our salesman said our $300 deposit was not refundible unless the van was damaged or had a problem etc. Lesson learned is to insist on a refundible deposit, which it appears in reading the sites many are able to get. When salesman didn't deliver by the agreed time frame of 31 Dec 00, he threw in the splash guards. I suggest getting an established delivery date in addition to refundible deposit. Don't do anything over the phone without getting a fax or email that concurs with what was discussed. You don't want any surprises when showing up at the dealership especially after a 2 hour drive. Also suggest that on your vehicle buyer's order that every stipulation that you desire is written down prior to giving a deposit (ie, total cost, no dealer markings, deposit is refundible, genuine Honda Care 7/100/0 warranty etc.). Nobody seems to ever state if they got their vans without paying the delivery ($440) fee, which we did pay as every single dealership (about 7) wouldn't budge on it. If you live in North West Florida area and want further details then let me know by including your email in your response. In the end the dealership honored the agreement with the exception of the delivery date, but they did make an extra effort to get our #1 color choice (GG). The transaction, however, was not as smooth as it should have been with poor communication on the status of our van's delivery date, lots of questionable excuses, and I had to very carefully keep track of the numbers and details placed on the multiple re-writes on our vehicle buyer's forms as they changed frequently (consistenly in the dealership's favor). I can't necessarily recommend the salesman or dealership we went with, but they in the end finally honored their agreement. We needed the van when we got it, but hopefully many of you will get significantly below MSRP as the year advances. Best regards and happy driving.

Although we have had an order for an GG LX on order since Oct. with La Point dealer in Charlotte, they have yet to receive it and say they can not find out info about when it might be delivered. Right before Xmas, I was called that they would sell the demo on the lot. When I went to look at it - they were charging more for this LX van than the one I had on order... including for the floor mats which are standard equipment - So,after another month has gone by, I am now back in the market place - and are very interested in any of the vans that are out of Columbus Ohio... how to go about it??? Any info would be helpful at this point... Also, do all of the LX's come with Firestone tires??

My experience was not that bad I got one at MSRP and pretty fast, I guess it might be luck depending on the color and model you like, or time when you buy it, I got mine in San Diego they seem to have a lot in stock in some places here. computergeek96@hotmail.com

    Robert,

Do you know if one of the local San Diego dealers has a SS or MB EX available for immediate delivery? I am looking for one at MSRP or below, and wouldn't mind driving to San Diego if its available. Thanks.

Contact Dennis Jenkins at Jay Honda in Bedford Ohio. Jayhondadj@aol.com. He hooked me up with an Oddy w/ no bs and he delivered when he said and for what he said it would cost. I was on a waiting list for five months before I wised up and purchased out of state. Took me 30 days to get one delivered, start to finish from Ohio to California. I am now a happy Oddy driver-this van is fantastic! Its worth the wait and the price and then some. Good Luck.

    Hi Kalajian:

How did they ship the car from OH to CA(any problem in the shipping process)? and how did you register this car in CA DMV(what kind of document you need to prepare)?

    Much appreciated.
  • newdad4newdad4 Member Posts: 4
I arranged a deal through Hugh White Honda on E. Broad St. You'll get $500 off if you talk with Jerry Millington.- Tell him you want the same setup as Chris & Emily. Your choice- either $500 off or $500 in options with no installation charges. (we got a bug guard, cross bars, mud gaurds, wheel locks & cargo tray on ours). We were in & out in 45 minutes. Couldn't have been nicer & more pleasant to deal with. Leave me a msg @ 631-1280 & I can call you back if you'd like.
  • kalajiankalajian Member Posts: 43
Shipping was a small problem, the shipper let the van sit on their lot for ten days before shipping it, but once it was on the road, it was here in four days.

Registration was simple. Make an appointment with the dmv (you can make an appointment on line). You'll need to have the ownership certificate and you will need to get the car smog checked (get the smog check before you go). The DMV will visually inspect your vehicle to make sure the vin number matches, that the car is tagged with appropriate smog equipment label, etc. YOu will be in and out of the DMV in under 30 minutes! You'll have to pay California registration and sales tax. They will issue you the new license plates while you are there.

    Howdy all!

After a ton of online research, we are about to join the ranks of you Odyssey (EX) owners and I want to pose one question to the group.

My wife and I are a just a little concerned about the safety of the auto sliding doors. We have a two year old daughter and have any of you tested the safety of them? Should we be at all concerned. I just hate to think about her little arm being in the way of the door as it closes. Does it sense obstruction via resistance or beam of light?

    Thanks

    Jeff
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
jhaverlack - the doors sense resistance in the last 12 inches of travel. I tested before I bought and found that it did not hurt my arm or leg, but I did not try it with anything smaller.

From day one I have told my 4 year old - stay away from the doors, don't play in or around the van (or any car).

I was concerned at first, but now I don't how we ever lived without power doors.

    Best of Luck.

Just bought Odyssey EX 2001, Granite Green. Paid MSRP after putting $500 deposit down last September. Purchased from Curtiss-Ryan Honda in Shelton, CT. They sell all Ody's at MSRP, so it was 26,400 plus 440 = $26840. They add $149 'conveyance' fee, and don't deal at all on options, so I purchased all the options I wanted from HandA-Accessories.com. Not only don't they deal on options, at least for the cassette deck, they list it at $300, when MSRP is $200!

Only glitch was the delivery date... we went from 'it should be built next week' to 'it's here' within three days. But, better early than late!
  • fitz15fitz15 Member Posts: 2
I got mine at MSRP, 26,840 with no BS. No dealer fees, etc.
Spreen Honda in Loma Linda. Dale Rose was the dealer. Wait was about 3 months.

San Diego dealers were scum. Especially Cush Honda.

Before I make the plunge and contact dealer's in these states, I would like to know why are cars less expensive there?

Has anyone heard of dealer's beating $1,000 off MSRP in the NYC Tri-State Area?
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
Its a matter of economics I would imagine. Having just traveled through Ohio and seeing all of the GM/Ford/DC mfg plants the "imports" dont do as well. That being said, I would put money on the Honda dealers in those area not having much in the way of allocations.

Does anyone have a sunroof on their Ody? Any info. re: problems, prices aftermarket, appreciated. Thank you.
  • rake4rake4 Member Posts: 1
Thanks to JWhitaker1 re: atlanta market.

Wondering if anything has changed for 2001. Curry Honda is only dealer I've visited and they are attempting to get $2,000 over MSRP. The $895 "appearance package" had a paint sealer and the salesman told me it was not optional and that Honda would not warranty the paint for more than a year without it. HMMMMM??? Honda repainted my 91 accord 4 years after I bought it because the clearcoat was coming off.

The other "non-optional" options included a cassette player, cross bars for the roof rack I'll never use and $149 plastic cargo tray liner.

My guess is I'll waste a lot of time in the metro area so I'll venture out and try Boomershine in Cartersville or elsewhere and report back.

If anyone's had good experience recently purchasing through internet please post.

Thanks to all for the excellent posts. I've spent the last couple of weeks going back and forth between an '01 Ody and an '01 Sienna XLE. Test drove both...Like everyone else - minor likes and dislikes about each. Definitely did not like the captain's chairs in the Sienna - like being able to make the bench...Found the Toyota to be a little quieter and nimbler on back roads - but not that much.

Posted my request via Cars.Com to 4 different dealers. Select your vehicle, with options, and send it out to the dealers (that you choose) within X number mile radius. Two of the 4 dealers responded within 12 hours...One of them sent a BlueMountain Thank You card - very nice touch...Visited both of these dealers. Dealer #1 (in Montpelier - State Capital) did not have any Ody's available for a looksee let alone test drive. He stated they never have and it hasn't hampered sales. Price is straight MSRP and wait is into March.

Dealer #2 (that sent the eCard) maintains an Ody for demo purposes. They suggest scheduling a time to look it over and test drive. This ended up being wise as in the 3 times I visited - there were many people looking it over. No BS from this dealer: $500 deposit down (refundable) will get you an EX at 2% below MSRP (the holdback amount???) = $26,303. Options are not discounted but after looking at the handa-accessories.com website, I'll being going straight there...

Bottom line - I could have a Granite Green EX in 10 days...I could have a Silver EX or Gold EX by mid to end of February....I opted for the Silver EX as it's the wife's first choice.

Very good experience with the 'net and this dealer - Automaster in South Burlington. Very pleasant experience with no BS or pressure...Ask for Lisa Murray or Jim Rowley...

    Good luck all

I'm waiting on '01 Starlight Silver EX. Supposed to arrive late February, early March, but some of these messages have me spooked.

My dealer did tack on the accent stripe and "protection packate", but other than that the car was MSRP. Total price (including destination charge and extras) $27,276

The dealer is Townsend Honda in Tuscaloosa, AL if anyone is in the region.

I picked up my 01 GG EX NAV yesterday 1/25. Purchased from Wade Raulerson Honda in Gainesville, FL for $100 Below MSRP with no dealer fees or add-ons. Financed through E-loan at 7.39% for 60 months. Salesmans name is Brian, seemed like a pretty straight forward guy. The only question I had was when I asked him about the 7/100/0 warranty he quoted a price of $1610. When I told him I saw it for $895 he said that I could buy it for an out of state dealer for that price but it is against Florida law for an in state dealer to sell it for anything below retail.
Can anyone advise if this is true?
    Thanks
  • dmathews3dmathews3 Member Posts: 1,739
    Congrats.
As far as not selling you the Honda Care for $895 because it's against the law to sell below RETAIL then why did he sell you the van below retail? Sounds like BS to me.

I get on a waiting list but the dealer told me they don't know when and how many they will get, let alone color... Does Honda give preference to those selling at a higher price so that they can mantain a higher average selling price? Those selling at lower price get punished by getting only the leftover?
  • dj5dj5 Member Posts: 42
Reply to dwilkers (Post 723). Unless you are getting leather or the navagation system you are getting ripped by the Alabama dealer. You're paying several hundred dollars for a pin stripe, wax job, and a couple of cans of fabric protector (approx cost $50).

I paid $25,840 (plus taxes & title) three weeks ago for my wife's 2001 Silver EX. You could probably save $1200-$1400 by shopping around.

Personally, I wouldn't do this deal unless it has leather or the nav. system.

    DJ,

Please don't offend the Honda sales folks team that log on to this board on a regular basis. "Pin stripe, wax job adn cans of fabrics" are options that are available on Odyssey and these folks have to feed their kids and send them to Harvard like everyone else. Leather,Sun Roof, remote key less doors and other stuff that ordinary folks are asking is by no means necessary and only make this wonderfull van look ugly. Its a blasphemy to pressure Honda for not providing them. The MSRP is extremly reseanoble price and as you can see the market shows that.
    Viva Honda Marketing!!!

I am looking for a good dealer in the New York City area selling the Granite Green or silver Odyssey EX at MSRP or below (seems impossible).
  • jayhondadjjayhondadj Member Posts: 7
A couple things I keep seeing on here, I'd like to comment on.
If the dealer can't tell you within a couple week window when your Odyssey will be there, there's a problem.
First the dealer gets a list of cars assigned to your store, so you know what colors are coming.
Then you get a list with a 4 day production date range. At least here in Ohio, we know the car will be here within 14 days from the production date.
Honda works on "turn and earn", not the price the cars are sold at. The more you sell, the more you get. That's why I don't understand all the dealers that you guys talk about on here that "force" options, or some overpriced paint and fabric package.
We sell Odysseys at a couple $100 off MSRP, (we don't even offer the paint and fabric packages)and only install the options the customer wants.
This way we "turn" more cars, and get more cars from Honda.
    And to MrAlexLi
I shipped Kalajian his car, the shipper charged us around $900, door to door.
It's interesting hearing these stories of dealers holding Odysseys hostage. These are the "old school" dealers that did the same thing with Accords and Civics in the 70s. They just don't get it. With the Internet, you can buy a car from anywhere across the country.
  • kalajiankalajian Member Posts: 43
$895 dropped off on my driveway from Ohio to Simi Valley (Ventura County-north of Los Angeles) California. If you want to pick the vehicle up at the shipper's Carson depot, the cost would be less. CALL DENNIS JENKINS AT JAY HONDA when you are ready to buy (and actually get) your Oddy! K.
  • jamescaninejamescanine Member Posts: 13
We paid $265 to include the labor for the keyless entry. It was worth it to us to have the dealership do the installation. I plan on doing a CD player installation on my own, which seems easier and less time consuming. I've seen keyless entry systems offered for only about $100-$150, but they aren't Honda's and would be covered by a separate warranty (not as good). I've seen the Honda Keyless entry system for the LX offered online for about $175 if you want to do install yourself.

First off, let me say thanks to all of you that posted information on this town hall. It helped tremendously. I have a brother that's in car sales and I thought he gave me the mother of all briefing on buying a car, but we could not have done it without others sharing stories.
We are turning in a leased 98Accord in Feb so we waited ail the last minute, as usual, to find another car. My wife new she wanted an odd so off we went in December making phone calls, visiting, and more calls. We thought we could use the end of the year pressure to buy a car cheaply and that just don't work with a high demand vehicle (which will change when production goes up)

Some highlights/low lies of the adventure:
This was our first new car purchase but what I have learned is using your gut instinct in rating' a dealership for whatever reason only goes so far(their customer service, pricing, reservation, deposit' rules, etc) In otherworlds, being happy' about the deal has so many chances to be screwed up. For us, using our gut instinct to choose' to deal with a dealership was about 90% correct.
For example, some dealerships said "come on in, we can get u one at msrp" means you get to pick from dealer add on package a,b,c or d ($800-1200). ..So what I guess i'm trying to say is, stick to YOUR bottom line, goals, desires and DON'T feel like you are 'stuck 'with a particular situation. Many if not all of the salesman tried to make it sound like that in one form or another--that WE gotta live with what we get.(price, options price, extended warrenty price, waiting time, etc) And that's the farthest thing from the truth....even my salesman brother will openly admit that.

So we settled on the color, SS, but couldn't decide on the ex vs. lx because of the long term mechanical repair concerns/safety of the electric doors. (we could really care less if the car had a better stereo or power seat, honestly). We decided on the ex b/c our cousin/friends have these and couldn't say enough about them being great.
So our bottom line was: MSRP or less; NO dealer addons unless we wanted it; a good price on a hitch/trans cooler. that's it.
In calling around we got all the usual replies to our questions, good and bad. (about half sold dealer add ons like $150-200 splashguards, $99cargo trays). If a dealer says something like: 'You are going to wait 4 months and pay a premium anywhere else'--run as fast as you can from these people and don't look back. There are good salespeople, but considering the average turn over of salespeople is anywhere from 6months to 2years, AND the fact that they are making fat bonuses on selling this model at msrp plus, i guess they are used to being the king of the hill and get a little proud about this (one car salesman even said: 'this van is more than just a van, you don't understand sir'....i said, "look, it's a vehicle, not the space shuttle')
We ended up on two wait lists....one took a refundable deposit and other didn't. We ended up giving our name and number to four others and said: if a silver ex comes in, msrp, no add ons, give us a call. About the other 15 dealers I called, I wouldn't want to deal with them ever. One dealership didn't keep a wait list at all and sends them right to the leather shop or tv/vcr shop and that's the only way they sell them because they can ~$31,000+. That's fine....it's a free country.
As it turns out, I got antsy one nite last week and called Jay Honda in Cleveland and they had one for adoption. I gave him my criteria, he agreed. Credit card deposit and two days later we flew there and 350miles later it's in our driveway. We saved over $500 on the car/hitch add on. For all u need to know people, he knocked a couple hundred off msrp and gave me a sweet deal on the hitch and cooler. (In contrast to my local 'midwest largest' honda dealer that wanted $599 for the hitch installed and $399 for the trans cooler--yep $1000 for a hitch install that would cost half that at an aftermarket place...we opted for the honda hitch b/c of warranty concerns).

did i hear someone say 'extended warranty'??
good people, lemme say this--you think you get a 'good' deal on a car and then it's 9pm, yur signing paperwork to complete the sale and this comes up....this is where they get one last jab in you. almost ALL the dealerships in the Chicago area would tell us that the extended warrantys would be $1100-$1395!! One dealer even told us 'all three or four we offer are about the same price, ~$1200 it just depends on yur driving habits'. Ok, here's the skinny: first off, don't be disolusioned-the warrenties are aftermarket and are not 'honda'. In other words, MANY companies offer them, including your Credit Union. there are various flavors, but mostly fall into: 5/75, 6/75, 6/100, 7/75, 7/100.You can go $50 or $00 deductable. the best part? Our salesman at Jay gave us retail price AND what his bottom line price was on their three flavors....very upfront and did not pressure us at all except for to say if we bought one from him, we'd have to do it at time of purchase. They were prices hundreds below the Chicago area prices.
We got our financing thru my wifes credit union at work and i think it was 7.8 for 60mo. They happened to mention that they offer a new car extended warranty and when we picked the 7/75 with zero deductible...i think it was $850.(the warrenty company from the credit union will let u add the warrenty even after you bring it home and buy it within 2 weeks of purchase...we even got 2000 pricing before it went up). THe only reason we got the extended warranty is for the electric door horror stories, of which i'm shur there aren't many, but how the hell can anyone find that info out anyway?
have i put you all to sleep yet? Yur probably all saying: yeh, they had to fly and drive to cleveland. yeh, we did and it was worth it. (we had bonus mile passes but southwest does it for like 59bucks in advance). Jay honda will also 'drive it' and deliver it to yur door for $250 or so but we didn't want anybody driving it. we picked it up and it had 4 miles on it.

Why are we happy with our purchase at Jay?
because we saved alot of money, we get to pay $60 bucks instead of $100 for a cargo tray (hondaaccessories.com), got a great deal on the hitch/cooler installed, they were nice, upfront, answered our questions without offense, PAID for our cab ride ($30) from the airport. (no, i'm not gettting referral fees for this endorsemnt, just trying to convince some of you sales people that this works and yes, you are all God's gift to Honda car sales). We didn't have to wait til feb/mar but we would have. We were treated like customers.

i'm gonna go out on a limb and say the dealerships I felt very happy with dealing with on the phone or in person:
    Jay Honda, Bedford OH
    recommend: Dan or Mike.
Lujack Honda, Davenport IA-Dee(they have one today 1/27 ex ss)

total bait and switch. after driving thru a minor snow storm accross the chicago suburbs to test drive one, we sat down to talk price and they said msrp +$2000! salesman told us over the phone that they did msrp price, yes. I guess they don't yet realize that customer's time is valuable.

we didn't want to wait for the plant to start production in the U.S. nor were were we gonna pay over.

So after a few days of my computer failing I am back on the road to trying to figure out if and when we will get a Honda LX - Thanks to the info from this chat room -
other questions - when you buy out of state - do we pay the sales tax for both states ?? and what about all of the title stuff ??
It is interesting that the dealer (La Pointe Honda in Charlotte) we have our order with called me back the next day after I posted #707 with a EX that has become available and the possibility that a Silver LX might be in next week - I don't know what to think at this point and am very disappointed that we might have to travel out of state to get an honest salesmanager and an honest deal. I also suspect that our "ordered" van could have come in the last 3 months and was sold to someone else willing to pay more - Actually, we are considering going back to the other brands of vans just because it is such a hassle- So, we will be making a decision in the next week - my spouse is concerned about the cost of buying out of state (title transfer etc. etc.) Any suggestions or experiences??

Sounds like you done very well on the car buying experience. The only thing I can see wrong is the extended warranty. You said $850 for 7/75/0 deductable. For $885 you could have gotten the Offical Hondacare warranty of 7/100 0 deductable that is good at ALL Honda dealers without any hassle. I think if I was you I would get yours cancelled out and go with one of the dealers here at Edmunds who offer it. I got mine from Upstate Honda in NY. Over the phone with my creditcard and the receipt was in the mail a couple days later with the paperwork from Honda about 2 weeks later. Also you get an extra 25,000 miles.

Hello, all. I am a newly registered Edmunds member posting my first message here. We are in the process of buying an Odyssey. My serendipitous visit here three weeks ago first got me interested in Honda. I was firmly committed to the Ford Windstar based on crash test data, the recommendations of acquaintances, etc. The sales manager of the local Ford dealership is a neighbor, dealership is five minutes away, etc. etc. Just for kicks I stopped by the local Dodge dealership to look over Caravans. The salesperson there treated me with such indifference that I felt like I was on Candid Camera or something. When I asked him about crash test data for the Caravans, he feigned ignorance. "Hmmm, you know, I don't get many questions about that. I don't really know." I knew he was blowing smoke, because safety is a big concern for van owners, seeing as how most of them will be transporting their children. When I told him that I knew the WS was #1, he said, and this is priceless, "Well, it's like football, you know, there's always a #1, #2, #3." "Yes," sez I, "but in football if you're #3 you're not going to die." To which Mr. Indifference, ses, "Yeah, well, I guess you've got a point." I was so angry when I left that I came home, got online and did an altavista search on "crash test data." I was directed to Edmunds.com and saved the data for the Windstar and Caravans. When I discovered the WS discussion board, I went there and saw some ominous posts about transmission problems, and saw people comparing the WS to the Odyssey, with the Oydssey coming out way ahead. I did a price comparison and saw that, with incentives, etc., I could save $$$$ on the WS. But the Odyssey has better crash test results. Yeah, I thought, but the Honda dealership is the farthest away of all the dealerships in our area save for the BMW dealer, a good 30 minute drive in the other direction from work. I dug some more. Read more posts, talked to some Odyssey owners. End result: we put our deposit down on an LX on Thursday morning and will take delivery in early April. Thank you, Mr. Indifferent Dodge Salesman! We're paying MSRP. The salesman has been absolutely fantastic. Low key, accomodating, etc. He's been with the dealer for 18 years, and Lynchburg is not a big town, so I think he's learned the value of straight dealing and customer service in a small town environment. Has not pressured us into any options, gave up right away when I indicated that power doors and leather don't appeal to us at all. He has volunteered to come pick our car up for routine maintenance. They've sold Odysseys to folks from New York and Tennessee, I believe he said, because they don't gouge like some of the other dealers mentioned here apparently do. Billy Craft Honda is the name of the dealership; our salesman's name is Ricky Hamlett. Granted, we don't have the car yet, but unless I've been totally hoodwinked, I expect to be driving our new van in ten weeks or so. There WAS an LX, in the color we like, on the lot, but we weren't in a hurry to buy. Five star experience so far.

I was wondering if you had any luck with Burne Honda in Scranton in securing the other SS EX? We are scheduled to take deliver next weekend after waiting only a week and a half. Can't wait as the car we are going to trade in is beginning to show signs of old age.

Sounds like a great price. I am in Jacksonville, Florida. Did you try any dealers in this area? Gainesville is just a short drive away to drive home happy with the price (and dealer!)What did you do with the warrenty? Buy from him or over the Internet?

I did not try any dealers in Jacksonville but I did visit or call other dealers (in Ocala,Orlando, etc.) and found them trying to sell for $2000 over sticker. The dealer in Ocala even tried to tell me the sticker for 01 Ex Nav is $30840.
As far as the warrany I haven't done anything yet but I got some phone numbers, from previous postings, of dealers willing to sell the 7/100/0 for $895.

David Winnie at Upstate Honda (518)587-9300

    Good luck in your search

We just bought an Ody in the Cleveland area. We are very excited. We'd sleep better knowing we got a "deal". Anybody else out there with a recent purchase in the NE Ohio area?

We bought our LX out of state. The state we bought it in has a 3% sales tax, but we are going to register in Florida (6%). The option was to pay 3% in Alabama and the remaining 3% in Florida or pay the full 6% in Florida. You are supposed to pay the sales tax based on the state where the vehicle will be registered. Therefore, we opted to just pay it in Florida. You don't pay it in both states unless you do it as outlined above. You won't receive a title until paid off, and there is no transfer fee (or shouldn't be). We haven't received our paperwork to get the registration done in Florida yet, which is kind of weird since we have had the van a week. Most dealerships should be well versed in how to do this. They also should give you a letter that basically shows or states the buyer's orgin (i.e. our Florida address for us). I hope this helps. I wish were registering in Alabama for the 3% sales tax rate.

Here in Maryland thinga are a little different. If you buy your Odyssey for cash, and you are an out of state buyer, you pay no sales tax but only pay for a 15 day temp tag. If you are financing and live out of state you pay the sales tax for your state here, then are mailed a check (for the tax amount) so you can go to your own Motor Vehicle Dept, you still only have a 15 day temp tag.

Coming into the State, they are pretty bold about penalties for not paying the tax and getting tags within a 30 day time frame.

Here in Dallas, we have a dealer (Lute Riley in Richardson) who tacks on an Environmental Protection Package, wheel locks, and cross bars for the rack which adds hundreds of dollars to each van. I told the salesman that I would NEVER buy a van with these costly add-ons unless I wanted those specific items, especially when I already had to pay MSRP. At first he said they had to add these items per a factory work order request. WHen I challenged him on that, he said that we could talk this over with his manager to see if we could order a van without these items. Meanwhile, I called another dealer in McKinney and he said that they simply sell Odysseys at MSRP, period, with no add-ons. It's insulting to me that this guy thinks I'm going to fall for his story and not check around. Two questions: Have any of you experienced the unwanted push for these or other dealer options? Also, this dealership is packaging more of their vans with leather. THis is OK with us since we want leather but they are asking $2500. How reasonable is that price? THank you.

I just went this past weekend to Burns Honda in Cherry Hill. I agreed on a new AS EX at $26,840 adding $345 for the door trim, wheel trim, mud guards and pin stripping. I also wanted to add the TV entertainment center on the ceiling. I have not seen any post regarding this feature. Does anyone have any feedback?? Also I did not sign a contract or left a deposit. The salesman was very friendly, he said they do not take any deposit from customers on a waiting list. He said it would take around 4 to six weeks for delivery. I feel like I did not buy a car, has anyone experience this same situation? I guess I would have felt better leaving a deposit.

    thanks

I just chatted with Nardy Honda of Smithtown, NY and was advised that they are selling at MSRP (Costco Auto Program) and will reduce price of add-ons. However, there is a 2 month minimum wait.

$2500 for leather. Boy they sure do things big in Texas :o) I have the classic leather www.classicsofttrim.com in my 01 Odyssey and I was sitting there when he called the certified installer here in western Michigan on the speakerphone. They were quoted $1300 as the dealer cost. That got me all seats, headrests, front doors, and sliding door trim all in leather. Also quoted the heated front seats at $350 for hi/lo heaters. My dealer since charging me retail didnot add anymore charges on and through in the cargo tray too. I see from classics website you have a classic installer in Dallas and one in Fort Worth. I went with Classic soft trim because this seems to be the #1 selling leather on the Odysseys at the Edmund site. It isn't glove soft as some leathers but is a lot thicker and I feel will stand up to the punishment of kids etc. better than most.

Thanks a million for the info. Lute Riley really is outrageous. Is it recomended to simply but the van with standard seats and then get after market leather (such as classic soft trim) after the sale or get it done prior to purchase? I believe the dealership in McKinney that I referred to uses Classic. THank you.
