We picked up our Silver EX-L with RES and NAVI last night from Philadelphia Honda (near the airport). I paid 31,448 +TTL including destination. Doc Fee including transfer of tags was only $119. I did have a trade (old used Ford escort), and he did not give me much on it, but I still traded it in. Dont think I could have done much better selling it privately.
I had sent emails to over 50 dealers in NJ, PA and DE, in mid-december and this dealer was the 3rd lowest in price. Two others dealers: Monmouth Honda of Lakewood NJ, and Mack Honda of Toms River NJ were going lower, close to Invoice price, but did not have the color I wanted (Silver).
The internet salesman at Philadelphia Honda was great. I put a deposit down on this van on Dec 19 with expected delivery between 25th and 31st. Got the VIN on Dec 22, but then he called me early last week and told me the car was delayed and would only arrive on the 3rd (yesterday), which it did. I had asked for free splash guards, which they did put on.
Also qualified for 2.9%. They offered extended warranty of 6 yrs/100k with $100 deductible for $950 (down from original offer of $1200), but I turned it down. Probably is a very good price, but thought I wouldnt need it (I hope!)
All in all, a great experience, and definitely recommended. Havent had time to even enjoy the car as we got done with the paperwork at 10 pm and got home at 10:30 pm (the dealership had 6 deliveries last night after 8 pm).
I've been lurking in these groups for a long time, finally get the chance to post, and hopefully will post more in the future.

I went ahead and ordered the Simoniz 5 -- for my deal it also includes interior protection (any stain that can't be taken out via novice or professional (professional covered by Simoniz), they will replace the fabric). It costed me $297 for it. Because it covered both, I thought to go ahead and get it -- they claim I won't need to wax my car for another 5 years. We'll see about that...

My guesstimate is they made approx $300/$400 on this sale. I also think they needed to sell a certain number of cars to guarantee their quota from Honda; in addition Honda was having a special promo.
I think this deal was an aberration and not the norm. Also, I do not think this is a harbinger of things to come.
From what I hear the Odyssey’s are, and have been selling great.
The first quote I got from them was 31948, but I managed to get another 500 off. The negotiation was not too difficult as I was quite willing to walk if he didnt lower the price.
The prices you quoted appear to be "standard" dealer quotes. They include installation costs - for ex. Fog lights are only $299 but the rest is gobbled up by installation. However, you can negotiate on these items since you are having it installed where you purchase the vehicle. They can be flexible on the pricing of these items since they are, like all accessories, high mark-up items.
However, beware of buying the items from other parties & trying to have dealers install them. You may find them cheaper elsewhere (wholesale prices which are up to 40% less in some places) for genuine Honda accessories. The crap that the dealers will give you is that "we cannot be certain about the accessories being genuine..." when they know that it is genuine (they have Honda logos all over them & you can even compare theirs with yours and find it identical!). Moreover, they will tell you that it will invalidate the warranty of your new vehicle if you install them yourself or have someone do it for you. Personally, I think it is a dealer scam. I work on cars quite a lot myself (& am looking for a "deal" on an Odyssey) and, of the list above the only one that will be somewhat of a challenge, for novices, would be the fog-light installation.
Since it is a brand new vehicle, your best bet is to see if they will cut you a deal on the accessory price & then have them install it for you. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the info. One more question. WAs the price $31,448 after your trade in or was it before the trade in. Also, did it include the destination charge.
I also got offered the extended warranty from Walnut Creek, that I think is overpriced even though you will get the money back at the end of period, only if you did not have any claims.
Just wanted to let those out there searching for the car listed above that I just bought one for $1000 over invoice. I had done all my homework and was suprised when the 1st offer was exactly this!
Thanks. I took a gamble as well. Picked up my EX-L today. I paid $315.00 for the Simoniz 5 System. I didn't get the fine print until today. Since I got leather, I'll have to read the contract to see if it covers the interior as well. The brochure only detailed the exterior coverage. Thanks for your input.
"I am supposed to close the deal tomorrow however two issues have come up. 1st the extended warranty the dealer will not budge from the following offers:
7/100 $1,595
6/100 1,485
5/100 1,325
I have attempted to follow price quotes in this forum on extended warranty but they appear to range in price based on DVD/nav vs. vehicles without."
No, they don't. Any Ody qualifies for 7 yr/100K miles for $1,075 from a number of dealers who sell HondaCare at normal prices.
"Actually, your $1,075 is only buying peace of mind for the time period between the expiration of the original factory warranty and the 7yr/100K extension."
You're wrong, because it also offers me roadside assistance, trip interruption benefits and free rental car for any mechanical breakdown.
"If you buy this warranty when the vehicle is new, you're paying interest on the $1,075 during the time the original factory warranty is in effect. I think it's a better deal to hold onto your money and buy the extended warranty just before the window to do so closes-- and after you're sure you like the vehicle and plan to keep it for the long haul"
First of all, if I put this money into a CD for 3 years, I could earn about $40 a year. Having the above benefits and the certainty that the price of this policy will not go up is well worth these $40 a year to me!
I researched Eastern Pa and surrounding area pretty extensively this past Fri. and Mon. Few RES/NAV to be had in Phila area. If you are willing to pay $500 under MSRP, there are a number of dealers in the area that have 1 or 2 in stock--but most dealers have none. (if you want to know the names, let me know) If not, here are some options:
Martin Honda, Newark, DE-- as of Mon. night had 4 RES/NAV in stock that they would sell for $1,000 over invoice
JL Freed (Lansdale, PA) -- would place an order for $500 over invoice
Metro Honda, Jersey City, NJ (North Jersey) -- When I called back on Monday to purchase the last one in stock at $500 over invoice, I was told that another buyer was in the showroom and had test driven the vehicle and they had to give preference to him; he bought the minivan, and the salesman said they could get one within the next week or so (he claimed to have made calls on Monday, trying to trade, but I didn't hear from him yesterday).
I bought out of state; awaiting paperwork to close deal. Will report on details when car is in hand.
If you want contact names and phone numbers, check my profile for email address and email me.
I remind you that if you have excellent credit, today is the last day to take advantage of Honda Financial's 2.9% financing offer. My understanding is that you don't need to take delivery today, you would just need to make your deal with the dealership for a specific vehicle that is scheduled to arrive within next 10 days. (I believe the application requires a VIN, and Honda's approval of that application is good for 10 days--i.e. you have to take delivery within 10 days.) I just got the 2.9% yesterday--nothing down, 60 months. (Honda Financial first quoted 3.9% but I asked the salesperson to go back and get 2.9%, which they did.)
As of now, Honda has not posted any additional special offers on their website.
As for the two issues interest rate was corrected to 2.9% and I purchased the 6/100k for $1,485.
I appreciated the comments just some observations. Someone posted (The post looks like it was later deleted) that they were turned downed for the 2.9% rate with a FICO of 901. I always thought FICO's ranged from 300-850.
cccompson's post was fair and valid what's 1% if that's the best you can achieve. I agree except that on principal alone a car company cannot offer a rate of 2.9% to generate sales and then say 3.9% where someone has a FICO in excess of 800. I do not care if the 1% is worth $1 or $10,000. In my view when promotional rates are offered the FICO rating necessary to obtain rate should also be given (I know its probably not as simple as that). In any event my particular issue (Whatever it was) was cleared up by the dealer with Honda Finance without my involvement.
DulNev your post was very helpful in that it confirmed a better deal is to be had. Based on my driving pattern I will hit 100,000 around the 5.5 yr mark so I went with 6 years. I understand I over paid $400-$500. Yes they got me I guess.
At the end of the day I paid $613 over invoice throw in the additional $410 I paid for warranty (1,485-1075=$410) and you could say I paid $1,023 over invoice. I own three Honda's from the same dealer. Does this mean something when my wife brings one of the vans or the accord in? I have no idea maybe isell can answer. Came close on a sienna but for various reasons settled on the Honda (Not this forums' topic)
Overall happy with the deal and am glad to be almost done with the buying process. I will post the name of the dealer over the weekend. I pick up the car shortly and as always prepared to kill the deal if something unexpected comes up. The dealer has been fine and professional.
My cousin got an EX-L/RES for $33K OTD in Maryland in the last couple of weeks. Based on this yours sounds like an OK deal to me. The invoice (including destination charge) is 29K.
AAA membership during the initial factory warranty period offers the same roadside assistance benefits you mentioned. And you get to hang on to your $1,075. Your CD argument is only viable if you have no other higher-interest debt to put the money toward. Putting that money toward your mortgage would give you a guaranteed rate of return of what ever your mortgage interest rate is.
I bought an extended warranty for my Volvo (I'm virtually GUARANTEED to come out ahead on this one!), but didn't buy until just before the factory warranty expired. The price was no different than the Volvo extended warranty for a brand new S-80. Maybe Honda is different.
Also, I don't believe your insurance company would pay you an extra $1,075 if you were to total your van before the extended warranty took effect, even though you had already paid for it. I could be wrong on this.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not preaching here. I bought the 7/100/zero Toyota extended warranty for my AWD Sienna. But the price for Toyota's warranty is a lot less than Honda's. I paid less than $800, which is about the cost to replace one of my (three) door motors. (If I had bought a lesser trim level and/or FWD, I'd have skipped it all-together). But I think next time I buy a new Toyota, I'll wait to buy the extended warranty like I did for the Volvo.
"DulNev your post was very helpful in that it confirmed a better deal is to be had. Based on my driving pattern I will hit 100,000 around the 5.5 yr mark so I went with 6 years. I understand I over paid $400-$500. Yes they got me I guess."
You can cancel this warranty any time during the first 60 days and receive a full refund. You can then buy the same policy from another dealer for $500 less. I don't know about you, but $500 cash for making couple phone calls is a huge payoff!
"Also, I don't believe your insurance company would pay you an extra $1,075 if you were to total your van before the extended warranty took effect, even though you had already paid for it. I could be wrong on this. "
That is an excellent point! I think you're right that you would loose that money (except if you have a GAP policy and certain other things are true, which is extremelly rare).
can you give the official answer about buying the warranty? I am considering getting one, but would like to wait until closer to the expiration of the BtB one.
Is the price the same down the road (recognizing that the base cost could change), or do you pay a premium for waiting? And how long can you wait to purchase it?
I wanted to get 2005 Ody today to secure 2.9 % APR. But dealer in Cary did not have the van. According to him I can not pay now for Ody in future( two to three weeks wait)
Price i was quated 30600 plus 3% tax and 385 document fee. He is not waiving off dcoument fee. There is no mention of destination charge. He will honor this price in future too. Do you guys think it is good deal.
I applied online with honda finance for preapproval , they declined it without giving any reason. I have good cradit 750 ( FICO) was expecting to get 2.9 %. what should I do to get lowest possible rate.
do honda comes with such low interest rate offers many times in year.
Apparently there are many opinions concerning Honda's extended warranties. Reference was made in having AAA Motor Club coverage during the 3 year warranty period as a possible item to consider. I would like to go one step further and offer for consideration the 3 year cost for maintaining this AAA coverage. AAA Plus in New Jersey runs approximately $108 per year. This totals $390 for 3 years. ($108 for the new subscribers and $91 per year for renewal). One might consider mentally deducting this cost from whatever Honda extended warranty that was negotiated with the dealer. If you are a motor club member its another option you might want to consider. True, AAA offers a variety of services, but the those that stand out most in my opinion are road service and maps and trip advice. The Honda warranty will provide the road service and if your choice is a Odys w/Nav there is your map and trip advice. Just thought I would throw this out for the forum.
A couple things here on the Extended Vehicle Service Contract.....
1.) Some states have laws prohibiting the price negotiation on Extended Service Contracts, (i.e. - Florida), and many more states will be passing these laws soon to avoid dealership internal interprising and privatized "factory" warranties that are actually "dealership" warranties with limited coverages.
2.) As far as financing it, Honda offers these Extended Contracts at a 0% interest for 18 months term if you put 10% down. So on a 1075 warranty, you put down 110 bucks and for 18 months pay for a 0% interest warranty.
Just some things to make you aware of, broaden your mind, your hometown is not the only place on earth...=)
The Honda Care warranties also come with trip planning benefits. It, for the most part IS a AAA coverage, underwritten by Cross Country Motor Club. So the road side assistances, trip interruption benefits, AND travel planning maps/guides are all part of the system, not to mention the extended warranty...
As far as the FICO scoring and interest rates, you're correct, it's not that easy. Your FICO score is most definately not the only consideration American Honda Financial, nor any other lending institution take into effect when considering you for approval. Many other aspects are used, not to mention that there are 3 major credit reporting agencies in the US and all of them will rate you differently. As far as publishing what score is needed to achieve the rate, it would be virtually impossible.
P.S. - You're right...there is no 900+ FICO score...and for the record I'd say less than 1% of the population even gets to 800+, with perfect credit for years on end. Again, too many factors determine this, and as many times as you see it, you'll never understand why...hehe good luck ..=)
todd says: "Also got the 2.9% from Honda and extended warranty at cost". Can you explain the part about the extended warranty. what was the package. ex: B-70 (7yr/10000miles $0 deductible) and did it really not cost extra ?
Glad to hear this worked out and you got the best financing rate.
I am not unsympathetic to the point you were making. In fact, had Honda not been offering the 2.9 rate, my wife would still be driving her '04 Pilot instead of the '05 acquired Monday night.
AAA also offers a plethora of discounts; many dealerships and garages will offer 10% discount on parts and service to members. I'm buying $1k+ worth of installed accessories from such a dealer, thus paying for at least a year's worth of membership; also local restaurants, amtrak, universal studios, etc., etc.; approved auto repair program (and I wonder whether Honda's roadside assistance includes 100 miles of free towing anywhere).
AAA also travels with the member, not the car, so will protect you in any vehicle--spouse's, rental, friends, whether or not you are driving it.
OK, I'm biased; my wife has worked for AAA for 14 years.
I would look north to Virginia. Try Rule Honda in Staunton, or the surrounding dealerships. Some of the dealerships around here thought I got a great deal up there on the 05 EX-L that's due in at the end of the month. Good Luck.
Anyone have expertise in analyzing advisability of GAP policy?
2005 EX-L DVD/NAV $31,089 (incl. doc & state tag fees) financed for 5 yrs at 2.9.
cost of GAP policy $495.
I am inclined not to take it since Odyssey holds value so well; I paid less then the kelly private party price for a 2004 w/15k mi. (picked randomly for comparison since kelly doesn't give prices for 2005 used). I am checking w/my insurance co. to see how it calculates benefit if car is totaled. But I have no expertise with this.
(I also intend to put in lo-jack w/early warning, to the extent that is relevant [unless someone knows of a good reason not to])
Answering my own question, I think I'll pass on the Simoniz for now, unless someone has a better idea. Car will be shipped from out of state, and I think I am better off having any type of wax/protectant/detailing work done locally. (Van will be garaged, in any case.)
FYI Dealer did not push this (or any extras whatsoever, for that matter). I just noticed that there was an "N/A" next to "Simonize Protection" (and "Gap Protection") on the sales order and inquired about the Simoniz (and Gap).
I'm no expert but think your inclination to decline GAP on this is a relatively safe bet.
$495 for what is really is not a large amount (dollar-wise) of protection does not make alot of sense. It seems unlikely that your maximum exposure would ever exceed $4000-$5000, if that.
Am going to see if my insurer can sell me cheap GAP; will also check to see if Honda financial sells it, otherwise will check on Internet; seems it is available for much less, like $100-$200, which would make it more palatable. According to other Edmunds fora, there are much cheaper GAP deals available.
Remember, the AAA coverage (Plus or not) covers you in ALL of your vehicles (I, for example, own three). The Honda warranty would only cover roadside issues you experience in your Odyssey.
With or without the extended warranty expense, I don't think gap insurance is necessary on high-resale vehicles like Honda and Toyota (excluding leases)-- unless you put absolutely no money down and finance it for 60 months or more...
That being said, your auto insurer is usually your best value for gap coverage.

Good luck!
P.S. - You're right...there is no 900+ FICO score...and for the record I'd say less than 1% of the population even gets to 800+, with perfect credit for years on end. Again, too many factors determine this, and as many times as you see it, you'll never understand why...hehe good luck ..=)
I am not unsympathetic to the point you were making. In fact, had Honda not been offering the 2.9 rate, my wife would still be driving her '04 Pilot instead of the '05 acquired Monday night.
AAA also travels with the member, not the car, so will protect you in any vehicle--spouse's, rental, friends, whether or not you are driving it.
OK, I'm biased; my wife has worked for AAA for 14 years.
(I also intend to put in lo-jack w/early warning, to the extent that is relevant [unless someone knows of a good reason not to])
Thanks.

Where did you get this deal?
FYI Dealer did not push this (or any extras whatsoever, for that matter). I just noticed that there was an "N/A" next to "Simonize Protection" (and "Gap Protection") on the sales order and inquired about the Simoniz (and Gap).
$495 for what is really is not a large amount (dollar-wise) of protection does not make alot of sense. It seems unlikely that your maximum exposure would ever exceed $4000-$5000, if that.
That being said, your auto insurer is usually your best value for gap coverage.
I did put absolutely no money down and am financing for 60 months, so it is worth looking into.
