Do you have the dealer's e-mail address?
  • cardingtrcardingtr Member Posts: 23
The dealer just called me today that my Odyssey EX NAV is here after two weeks wait and no deposit. Thats quick.
How everything worked out I'll let you know. I guess I'm ready, I got the checklist handy...

We just received our March allocations. What a let down! Normally we get 20-25 per month, this time...9! 2 LX's and the rest EX's. Honda tells us that we will get some "single" units throughout the month, but I am not holding my breath.

What are your dealers telling you about supplies?

I just picked up my new SS 01 EX 10 days after making deposit. I live in the Bay Area in Northern California. No dealer I spoke with was willing to sell at MSRP. The best deal I found was at San Leandro Honda for $1,000 over MSRP. The only option I added was the roof-rack crossbarr for $139, cargo tray and the 'touch of class' (fabric and paint sealant) for both for $400. After 8% sales tax, my out-the-door price was $31,100, for which we paid cash with no trade-in. After reading this board and seeing so many pay MSRP, I feel I may have paid too much.
Did I get taken? or is this pretty much the going rate here in N. California? What do you all think? Thanks.
  • joshuah1joshuah1 Member Posts: 22
You probably paid what is expected in your area as I have seen many gal (especially Northern) dealers ask above MSRP. I wouldn't feel to bad since your case is typical but it's another example of the high cost of doing business of any kind in California. I'm not suggesting California is the only place where you pay above MSRP, but it seems like you get nailed for so many premiums just for the privledge of living there. I'm from San Dingo so you don't have get defensive. But now that I'm out of state, I see how ridiculous it is: above MSRP, 8% sales tax, high state income tax, very high fuel taxes, ridiculous real estate, and now even outrageous utilities. I don't know how you people do it. In sum, you paid the California market price. Joshua garrison

Someone wanted a recommendation in Indy some postings ago, and I have one. I purchased a GG '01 EX in October from Brian Moreland at Dan Young Honda and was completely satisfied. We paid 26,140 total cost (not incl. tax) and everything was straighforward. The van pulled right when I picked it up -- Brian took a ride with me, agreed, and stayed late while their service guy tweaked it. It's on the money now. Have 3500 miles on it already, and have had no problems, although am eyeing the transmission and door concerns here. Didn't purchase extended warranty or any other add-ons. Like power seat, and have gotten several legitimate naps in 3rd seat on long trips while kids sleep in captain chairs comfortably...Makes trip East a lot easier! Stereo is decent to good, but no better. Likewise the mileage is nothing to boast to the EPA about. Good luck and don't obsess too much!

I got mine in San Diego Ca and I think it does make a difference where you buy it because all dealers are different some sell for 3500 over others at MSRP, I think for the right color and model I would pay over sticker just to save a lot of time but I guess I was somewhat lucky to find the right deal at the right place.

A short trip to the valley here(sacto-stockton-modesto) would have saved you about $1000. I am very close to picking up an Oddysey and have gotten a few dealers to commit to MSRP. Still looking for the one who will do it on one in stock though!

I just bought an Odyssey in OH, Buckeye Honda. The internet salesperson had the vehicle waxed and split the cost of splash guards with us. He had another on the ground and said he had more coming. He was a really nice person. He did everything over the internet and phone for us and all we had to do was come pick it up and sign the papers. His e-mail address is newsales@buckeyehonda.com if anyone is interested.

Did the price you paid include destination or any other "Dealer Costs"?

I've read lots of posting re-7/100k Hondacare. Does anyone have "best price"/dealer contact info on the 7/70(or 75)k, 0 Ded. alternative? Is the coverage better than WarrantyGold-Platinum & others?
    Thanks.

Sorry, gkjeung. You were ripped off. I got mine in Loma Linda for MSRP. San Diego had the same problems as Northern California. Perhaps the price was the best you could do without driving too far, but the "touch of class" was a blatant ripoff.
Fabric protection is no more than spraying scotchguard. This about $10 worth of spray. I did pay $30 to have it done at the local car wash, because I'm a little lazy and I didn't want to breathe the fumes.
Paint sealant is no more than a good coat of wax.
The cross bars were a fair price.
Don't ever again let the dealer talk you into fabric or paint protection. It is just a rip off.
    Check out carbuyingtips.com.
Don't feel bad. The Odyssey is a great minivan and you will enjoy it for years.

What products can I purchase for Fabric Protection and Paint Sealant? We pick up our SS EX in 2 days and want to know what other people have used. Thanks in advance for your help!

Can anyone recommend a dealership in N.E. Florida or S.E. Georgia that will sell an EX for MSRP or lower?
  • cardingtrcardingtr Member Posts: 23
After 15 days wait without a deposit, I took delivery of it today. Price is MSRP which 4 other options. So far I didn't noticed any defects mentioned here. Thanks for the checklist I pulled out from here. Really helps a lot.
The dealer is Benson Honda in San Antonio, TX (877-BENSON) and look for Robert Loehr. Very straight forward. Only took me an hour negotiating the price. Originally offered 29940.
They have three EX's on the lot today.

My wife and I have basically decided on the Odyssey. I was wondering if anyone from the Pittsburgh PA area had any recommendations of good dealers, what type of deals are common, how long are the waiting lists, etc…. Thanks
  • cary28cary28 Member Posts: 53
I also live in the Bay area and I have found no local Honda dealers willing to sell the Ody for less than $1000 over MSRP. I have friends in the industry and the demand is so high that no one is willing to sell for less.

However, I have found Barber Honda in Bakersfield willing to sell for MSRP, which means a 4 - 5 hr drive. They only have about 5 names on their waiting list so short term availability is probably good. I talked with Ralph Tinocco last week and he had a GG EX w/Nav available.

Southern CAL is a little better, offering $500 over MSRP at some dealers. I've even heard of MSRP deals in the San Diego and Loma Linda area.

Basically, living in California has its inherent cost, which means we pay higher prices for most things. But then, I don't know of too many other places where you can ski in the morning and hit the beaches in the afternoon, and not have severe winters :-)

I picked up my 01 GG EX-NAV last week. I bought it from Wade Raulerson in Gainesville, FL. Salesman's name was Brian Honeyman. I paid $100 under MSRP.
  • gkjeunggkjeung Member Posts: 21
Thanks to everyone for their comments regarding whether I paid too much (msg 755). I guess I got a decent deal given the circumstances here in Northern CA. A friend of ours who sells cars for another Honda dealer here in the Bay Area told us that $1,000 over MSRP was very good because they charge even more. So, I can't complaint too much. Now, I'm just considering whether I want to try to buy and install the Honda foglights myself. My Honda dealer wanted $400 for the light and $250 to install! Thanks.

I have been on their waiting list since early Dec and still haven't get anything yet. They seem to unable to get any allocation from Honda...

The best deal around SF bay is 1000+. I am debating whether to buy from Oregan and ship it... Does anyone know how much is it to do it (from Eugene OR to San Jose)?
  • MrAlexLiMrAlexLi Member Posts: 13
One tell me they will sell for MSRP but end up wanting to sell $1000 worth of addon's... Of course I say sorry. They will play game with you. Watch out. Get something in writing before you make the trip. Happy shopping.

BTW there seem to be plenty of dealers have them in the lot if you are willing to buy out of state.

Sorry to be posting this message on the "prices paid" message board, but I have a quick question for EX owners.

After looking at pictures in the Honda Odyssey brochure, it appears that you can turn the power sliding door feature ON and OFF. So the owner has the option to manually shut the door? If so, does shutting it manually create a lot of wear and tear on the power door? Also, my wife and I test drove the EX and thought the power door shut too slowly (safety concern if, while shutting the door, someone jumped in with babies in car seats). Any comments? Thanks.
  • gkjeunggkjeung Member Posts: 21
It may not be worth all the trouble trying to get it out of state just to save a $1,000. I've come to terms with paying a $1,000 over MSRP, since that is a 'good' price here in the SF Bay Area. I could have paid more. I bought mine at San Leandro Honda and they seem to have lots of Odysseys coming in. I only waited 10 days after I gave them a deposit. However, you have to be careful at SL Honda. The first salesperson there said $1,000 over MSRP (with no dealer add-ons). But when I went in to pay my deposit, her 'assistant' helped us and tried to say it was $2,000 over MSRP for special orders. We said that's BS because every car was a special order asnever have any in stock! After walking out, the first saleperson later called and said $1200 over MSRP. Anyway, after we told them that Honda of Oakland offered a better deal (1,000 over MSRP), they relented and matched it. So, we stuck with SL Honda, even though I think Honda of Oakland may have been better. You may want to try Honda of Oakland. They have a website and take internet inquires. I dealt with a guy name JT there. He seem decent in his emails and on the phone - but who knows? Good luck.

The on/off switch you are refering to is the one on the dash above the switches for closing the doors. If so all that switch does is turn them off so they can't be opened. Most cars with power windows also have a switch to do the same for the windows. Opening and closing the power doors manually is not recomended. They are very safe and close slow enough so unless you are handicaped or not paying attention to kids there should never be a problem. Most people with kids agree that the power doors are safer than the manual doors on the LX as in order to close manual doors you have to slam them and if someone sticks a body part in the path there is no way you will ever stop the door in time. Of course I'm sure since saying this there will be 3 notes saying I'm wrong. I may not be right, but I'm never wrong:o)) Then again my youngest kid is 30.

We just arrived back in Bridgewater, NJ from Scranton, PA with our SS Ody EX purchased at MSRP from Dave Campfield at Burne Honda. It was an easy 100 mile drive and saved us well over $1,000 compared to NJ prices. Plus we did not have to wait at all for the vehicle! (Thanks again, Kevin, for the tip you gave me here two weeks ago. It was fun meeting you and your wife today while we both picked up our Odysseys.) Our experience with this dealer and Dave Campfield was excellent!

"Most people with kids agree that the power doors are safer than the manual doors on the LX as in order to close manual doors you have to slam them ..."

That's interesting, because I don't have to slam my manual door on my 5 yr old Villager.

This forum is supposed to help car buyers to exchange info. But there are
dealers posting misleading info periodically(intentionlly?). Please stop
what you are doing. Didn't you(dealers) make enough money from us?

Don't you have anything better to do than hang out in the ODY boards and quote the owners?

"Don't you have anything better to do than hang out in the ODY boards and quote the owners? "

I am trying to decide between an Odyssey and a Sienna. They are quite different so I find it very difficult to sort the two out. What *is* very similar about these two is that on the Edmunds boards, there seem to be a number of recent purchasers of one or the other whose egos are overly caught up in the machines they bought.
  • drew_drew_ Member Posts: 3,382
While I appreciate the fact that you're trying to decide between the two vehicles, some of your comments have seemed rather snide. Please try to respect other's choices and opinions in your responses to them or they may respond in kind. No personal attacks or Steve or I will have to resort to the unpleasant job (well, most of the time ;-P) of removing posts.

    Thank you for your co-operation!

Have been trying to locate a Seattle area EX with no NAV for less than $28,000. Anyone have any luck there?
  • shorehamlishorehamli Member Posts: 1
I checked with a few local dealers in the Long Island and Queens area. They are sticking with MSRP with no add-on.

I was looking through the February Yahoo Internet Life and there is an article of Internet Car Buying Services. They rated Carsdirect.com the best. So I tried their system, well FYI, they were over $1,800 higher than the my local quotes. They said this is what their associated dealers are charging Strike them off.

    The other services rated are:

    1) carpoint.com
    2) greenlight.com
    3) autobytel.com
    4) autoweb.com

Let me know if anyone has any luck.

Finally picked up our Emerald Green LX last week. Thanks to everyone on the board for their input.

We paid MSRP plus destination. We also convinced them to throw in the remote keyless entry for free since the Oddy had 400 miles on it(It was their demo).

Tried to get the 7/100/0 warranty at the dealership. Showed them postings from forum but they told me Florida law requires them to charge MSRP($1700) on extended warranties. I told them no thanks.

I called some of the dealers listed previously in the forum selling it at 895. Dave Winnie at Saratoga Honda said the price has gone up but will sell it at $975. I am going to check around a little more to see if I can beat that price.

I just ordered a Mesa Beige Odyssey EX from Kerry 0'Farrell Honda in Moses Lake for $600 under MSRP plus destination and taxes. Delivery is expected at the end of February. I called most dealers in Washington and found those on the west side still want $2000 over MSRP. Those in eastern Washington where selling for MSRP. I could get vans at the Yakima and Wenatchee dealers for MSRP. Each place I called had two or three vans in either silver or white. Yakima had a Granite Green. The Moses Lake dealer had four vans on the lot, two Canadian versions and two US. As I remember, three were silver and a Mesa Beige.

I also called the Pendleton, OR and Lewiston, ID stores. Both those places would sell for MSRP. Keep in mind these are quotes over the phone with out trying to dicker. The Moses Lake store also quoted MSRP and told me they had Mesa Beige, but when I got there it ended up to be Canadian. The owner told me he had a Mesa Beige coming in his allocation at the end of the month. This was a Saturday afternoon and NOBODY was looking at cars. I told him I'd buy today for $600 under MSRP. He took it with out hesitation. You should try lower.

I've seen several people refer to a checklist to review before picking up a new Odyssey. Where can I find this list? Also, due to its size, what experience have people had warming up the cabin of the Odyssey on very cold days or cooling it down on very hot days (especially the back two rows)? Thanks

Are they still offering $1,000 off MSRP in Ohio/Kentucky?

Besides Jay Honda in Bedford, OH, any other reputable dealers who are offering $1,000 off MSRP?

I paid $4,325 over MSRP for the EX in Lithia Springs Georgia. The car was on the lot, didn't have to be put on a waiting list. Salesman told me they added a lot of accessories to the vehicle like cross bars etc. which bumped the price up. Yea, sure you did, what ever. I told them for that price, they had to include the entertainment center with the TV.. VCR. They said O.K.

    Lessiber,

I had an earlier post about my deal with Alton Blakley in Sommerset, Kentucky. Bought a 2001 SS EX from them at a cost of $25840 ($1000 below MSRP)about three weeks ago.

I faxed my offer to over 90 dealers in the Southeast before finding one that would accept my offer. It was an easy and straight forward deal with no dealers add-ons.

We drove 350 miles from Atlanta to pick up our van and it was worth the drive. We were up and back in a day and saved over $2000 versus buying here in Atlanta. They also did not charge a documentation fee, some other dealers charge up to $199 doc. fee.

I highly recommend this dealership. Our salesman was Barry Flatt. If you call him, tell him that Dennis and Laurie from Atlanta referred you and you would like to get the same deal.

I know of at least two other people who have purchased from this dealership, based on my previous post.

Great deal on a great van.

I know nothing about buying a new car. I have decided to get a new Odyssey and need a lot of help with getting the best deal. I live in LA and at what price should I pay for a new Odyssey.

Your help would benefit me a lot and save me quite a few thousand bucks.

    thanks in advance

Do you live in Los Angeles or Louisiana? If it's the former, then nothing greater than $1,000 over
MSRP for this area. It also depends on the trim level (I'm assuming an EX), accessories (if any), how far you're willing to travel, and how long can you wait?
We've recently put a deposit on a '01 EX GG with Goudy Honda for $500 over MSRP (this was through their fleet manager), should be in late Februaury/early March. We could have probably gotten it lower if we could wait a longer... You might want to try Metro Honda (Montclair) and Nelson Honda (they make you buy accessories though). The lady from Metro said that Honda has increased their production output , thus waiting time should be reduced. Hope this helps.

Since you are comparing the two Vans, Assuming you have toddlers. Sienna is much better choice because of the leather seats, entertainment systems and built-in child seats (not to mention the obvious..."Reliability"). It is smaller van but unless you have 4 kids or more or you happen to live in India..Sienna wins hands down!! It is little pricier but it has proven its worth ( been around for a while unlike Odyssey). I personally purchased Quest mainly due to options offered, price and Individual owners that I talked to.

I recommend that you start at about message 400 and read every one of them, skipping those of little applicability. The thread contains a wealth of info on pricing nearly everywhere in the US. Warranty pricing, options pricing, etc., are all here. The thread helped me tremendously in negotiations for the Ody I picked up last Wed.

Funniest thing was I thought I was getting the Granite Green (GG) and it's really a dark green. It's what I wanted and expected, but I had the name wrong--it's Dark Emerald Pearl! If you want the really dark green metallic, that's the one to get.

After reading the background, ask anything and one of the knowledgable people on the Board, who helped me, will be glad to help you.

Thanks for your posting - glad we could help out!! It was great to meet you and your family on Saturday as well. Dave Campfield was great to work with and made buying the SS EX a breeze. After watching the boards here and holding out as long as possible (hoping for an increase in supply and drop in prices) I decided to get an Odyssey for Christmas. Since Christmas was only two weeks away, I knew my chances were slim. I called about a dozen dealers in the York/Harrisburg PA and Baltimore MD areas, but had no luck (all said about 3-4 months & MSRP).

I came close to getting one in time from Jay Honda, but that didn't work out for $400 under MSRP ($26440 + $50 doc fees + $19.25 hemp tags).

After that, I called Jay Honda and Rick Case Honda in Cleveland (CR had said they could deliver in January and had the same deal). Rick Case called back first by about 15 minutes so I went with them, but kept Jay Honda as a backup. Each required a $500 credit card deposit. Both had the car in the exact same day in the Dk Green color we wanted. I flew out from BWI airport and picked up the vehicle from Rick Case on Jan 25th, exactly as promised. Our salesperson, Chad Reynolds, picked us up at the airport.

Everything went smoothly and the car has been great!
