How everything worked out I'll let you know. I guess I'm ready, I got the checklist handy...
What are your dealers telling you about supplies?
Did I get taken? or is this pretty much the going rate here in N. California? What do you all think? Thanks.

Thanks.
Fabric protection is no more than spraying scotchguard. This about $10 worth of spray. I did pay $30 to have it done at the local car wash, because I'm a little lazy and I didn't want to breathe the fumes.
Paint sealant is no more than a good coat of wax.
The cross bars were a fair price.
Don't ever again let the dealer talk you into fabric or paint protection. It is just a rip off.
Check out carbuyingtips.com.
Don't feel bad. The Odyssey is a great minivan and you will enjoy it for years.
The dealer is Benson Honda in San Antonio, TX (877-BENSON) and look for Robert Loehr. Very straight forward. Only took me an hour negotiating the price. Originally offered 29940.
They have three EX's on the lot today.

However, I have found Barber Honda in Bakersfield willing to sell for MSRP, which means a 4 - 5 hr drive. They only have about 5 names on their waiting list so short term availability is probably good. I talked with Ralph Tinocco last week and he had a GG EX w/Nav available.
Southern CAL is a little better, offering $500 over MSRP at some dealers. I've even heard of MSRP deals in the San Diego and Loma Linda area.
Basically, living in California has its inherent cost, which means we pay higher prices for most things. But then, I don't know of too many other places where you can ski in the morning and hit the beaches in the afternoon, and not have severe winters :-)
The best deal around SF bay is 1000+. I am debating whether to buy from Oregan and ship it... Does anyone know how much is it to do it (from Eugene OR to San Jose)?
BTW there seem to be plenty of dealers have them in the lot if you are willing to buy out of state.
After looking at pictures in the Honda Odyssey brochure, it appears that you can turn the power sliding door feature ON and OFF. So the owner has the option to manually shut the door? If so, does shutting it manually create a lot of wear and tear on the power door? Also, my wife and I test drove the EX and thought the power door shut too slowly (safety concern if, while shutting the door, someone jumped in with babies in car seats). Any comments? Thanks.
That's interesting, because I don't have to slam my manual door on my 5 yr old Villager.
dealers posting misleading info periodically(intentionlly?). Please stop
what you are doing. Didn't you(dealers) make enough money from us?

Don't you have anything better to do than hang out in the ODY boards and quote the owners?
I am trying to decide between an Odyssey and a Sienna. They are quite different so I find it very difficult to sort the two out. What *is* very similar about these two is that on the Edmunds boards, there seem to be a number of recent purchasers of one or the other whose egos are overly caught up in the machines they bought.
Thank you for your co-operation!

I was looking through the February Yahoo Internet Life and there is an article of Internet Car Buying Services. They rated Carsdirect.com the best. So I tried their system, well FYI, they were over $1,800 higher than the my local quotes. They said this is what their associated dealers are charging Strike them off.
The other services rated are:
1) carpoint.com
2) greenlight.com
3) autobytel.com
4) autoweb.com
Let me know if anyone has any luck.
We paid MSRP plus destination. We also convinced them to throw in the remote keyless entry for free since the Oddy had 400 miles on it(It was their demo).
Tried to get the 7/100/0 warranty at the dealership. Showed them postings from forum but they told me Florida law requires them to charge MSRP($1700) on extended warranties. I told them no thanks.
I called some of the dealers listed previously in the forum selling it at 895. Dave Winnie at Saratoga Honda said the price has gone up but will sell it at $975. I am going to check around a little more to see if I can beat that price.
I also called the Pendleton, OR and Lewiston, ID stores. Both those places would sell for MSRP. Keep in mind these are quotes over the phone with out trying to dicker. The Moses Lake store also quoted MSRP and told me they had Mesa Beige, but when I got there it ended up to be Canadian. The owner told me he had a Mesa Beige coming in his allocation at the end of the month. This was a Saturday afternoon and NOBODY was looking at cars. I told him I'd buy today for $600 under MSRP. He took it with out hesitation. You should try lower.
Besides Jay Honda in Bedford, OH, any other reputable dealers who are offering $1,000 off MSRP?

I had an earlier post about my deal with Alton Blakley in Sommerset, Kentucky. Bought a 2001 SS EX from them at a cost of $25840 ($1000 below MSRP)about three weeks ago.
I faxed my offer to over 90 dealers in the Southeast before finding one that would accept my offer. It was an easy and straight forward deal with no dealers add-ons.
We drove 350 miles from Atlanta to pick up our van and it was worth the drive. We were up and back in a day and saved over $2000 versus buying here in Atlanta. They also did not charge a documentation fee, some other dealers charge up to $199 doc. fee.
I highly recommend this dealership. Our salesman was Barry Flatt. If you call him, tell him that Dennis and Laurie from Atlanta referred you and you would like to get the same deal.
I know of at least two other people who have purchased from this dealership, based on my previous post.
Great deal on a great van.
Your help would benefit me a lot and save me quite a few thousand bucks.
thanks in advance
MSRP for this area. It also depends on the trim level (I'm assuming an EX), accessories (if any), how far you're willing to travel, and how long can you wait?
We've recently put a deposit on a '01 EX GG with Goudy Honda for $500 over MSRP (this was through their fleet manager), should be in late Februaury/early March. We could have probably gotten it lower if we could wait a longer... You might want to try Metro Honda (Montclair) and Nelson Honda (they make you buy accessories though). The lady from Metro said that Honda has increased their production output , thus waiting time should be reduced. Hope this helps.
Funniest thing was I thought I was getting the Granite Green (GG) and it's really a dark green. It's what I wanted and expected, but I had the name wrong--it's Dark Emerald Pearl! If you want the really dark green metallic, that's the one to get.
After reading the background, ask anything and one of the knowledgable people on the Board, who helped me, will be glad to help you.

I came close to getting one in time from Jay Honda, but that didn't work out for $400 under MSRP ($26440 + $50 doc fees + $19.25 hemp tags).
After that, I called Jay Honda and Rick Case Honda in Cleveland (CR had said they could deliver in January and had the same deal). Rick Case called back first by about 15 minutes so I went with them, but kept Jay Honda as a backup. Each required a $500 credit card deposit. Both had the car in the exact same day in the Dk Green color we wanted. I flew out from BWI airport and picked up the vehicle from Rick Case on Jan 25th, exactly as promised. Our salesperson, Chad Reynolds, picked us up at the airport.
Everything went smoothly and the car has been great!
