I am in the omaha Nebraska. Looking for a 2005 Ody EX without navigation, leather, or entertainment. Anybody know of a good dealer in this area?
What is the price range in this area compared to Invoice? Do I have to pay MSRP?
    Thanks.
  • u2fanu2fan Member Posts: 2
Thanks for the info. What was the name of the person you dealt with? I live in Dayton and am looking for the same vehicle. Only difference is that I have a Infinity i30 to trade in....

    Thanks!

Just wanted to say that printing out a dozen different excerpts from people's buying price experiences helped me get lower than the invoice price on a Slate Green w/dark gray cloth interior Odyssey EX! Very happy at this point!

First dealer tried to get us to take their 1,000 off MSRP price (which would have been $27,810)--so I blatantly ripped out my sheet with the excerpts, Edumunds & KBB prices and what I wanted to pay. We eventually got it down to $26,000 even (Invoice was $25,881). Went to two other dealers. Second dealer couldn't go any lower than $26,000 either. Last dealer I explained our scenario to (said we were getting $26,000 w/cargo net and cargo tray from two other dealers), and he said they could possibly go $200 less and add those options in.

    So we're going with this:
$25,800 w/$515 destination fee included, cargo net and cargo tray (worth $207.50)

Pretty happy with that from the different dealers we've been to in the capital district.

Leather in olive looked really nice too, but with three dogs, I'd be a little worried about the nails digging into it.

No, not at all.. sounds fine to me!

If the dealer thinks the deal is good, it was good for the dealer, not necessarily the buyer. Of course, some will say, that the buyer did agree. But buyers may agree to some bad deals. Look at the State of California who was forced to overpay due to market conditions from power companies who manipulated the market by making sure power was scarce and charging very high prices. Good for the seller. How about current oil prices? Good for the seller. The dealer buys and sells every day. The customer may only buy at intervals of years. Hopefully the buyer will get a deal good for the buyer.

Just curious as to what dealerships in the Albany area you shopped at and where you ended up buying from. I'm in the market for an Odyssey in the capital district, and your input would be helpful. Also, I'm surprised you got your Odyssey for under invoice when the Edmunds site lists the TMV as close to MSRP. Is this typical?

Will finish purchasing an EX-L RES, also for my wife, on Monday (will post dealer when I've closed the deal).

The final deal was $29,387 (invoice) + $500 (pure profit). There's the Texas 6.25% T and $176 TL. So excluding TT&L my cost is $29,887.

I have question about financing at a Honda dealership. I was told that the very best non-incentive rate (for which there are none on the Odyssey) for customers with the best credit scores is 4.3 % right now. Has anyone else done better through Honda?
  • myodymyody Member Posts: 17
I got a similiar deal in Northern California...
    Silver/Gray interior
    $33,363(including destination) + TTL

For California a very FAIR Deal at Jim Doten's Honda, Berkeley!

    lopcheung,

I'd like to talk to you about your experience with Yuba City Honda--I don't know if you still check this board. Please reply to this message if you get it. :)

Has anyone else had experience with them?

    Thanks!
  • myodymyody Member Posts: 17
I had worked out a deal with Yuba City Honda for an 05' EXL R/N for $33,163(including Destination) + TTL. Straight forward no "games"! HONEST
  • yaskyyasky Member Posts: 9
Where did you the 4.3% rate? One of the TX credit unions? Typically, they're financing is lower than commercial (unless it's manufacturer sponsored). Just got my VIN the other day. Now I wait 8-20 days for delivery. Like you, want to make sure I've lined up the lowest financing that's available. Good luck with the close.
  • cptcircumspectcptcircumspect Member Posts: 6
Honda financing has 2.9% financing for select vehicles but not the Odyssey. The finance guy told me that the lowest available rate from Honda (excluding the 2.9% deal) is 4.3%. Community Credit Union is 4.5%.

I was just checking to see if the finance guy was being forthright and if anyone got a better Honda finance deal (recently) on a Honda.

    hi
can u name the dealership and contact person if possible for seattle area ad did u do comparison shopping
  • breadmanbenbreadmanben Member Posts: 3
I don't think they allow naming the individual salesperson on this board. The dealership was Honda of Seattle.

As far as price comparison, yes I did plenty. I sent offers to about 15 dealers at Inovice +1,000. Got a few counter offers back at invoice + 2,000. Sent out a second batch of offers to different dealers at invoice + 1,600 and actually had a dealer accept that offer but I would have had to wait 30-60 days for delivery. Ended up going to Seattle at invoice + 2,000 with a car being delivered this week.

I think this was a fair deal all around. They make money, I pay a fair price and get the car in the short term.

But definately check around. Most dealers were trying to stick to MSRP +/- 500.

Looking to purchase EXL with NAV/DVD in north/central alabama. Any advice with prices paid in al/ga/tn etc?

It actually turned out to be 4.1 and it was through Honda. I had to ask for a better rate.

I just talked to an internet sales manager for an ex, silver for invoice+1000 or $26881. Is this a good price in the bay area? Are there any posters who had experienced a better deal? This dealer is concord honda.

    thanks in advance.

Yesterday afternoon we took delivery of a 2005 Odyssey Touring with NAV/RES in Slate Green / Olive. It was delivered on a flat-bed truck directly to my house with just 5 miles on it. Price was $36,200 or roughly $37,600 including taxes, title, tags, etc.. Anyone in the DC area looking for an Odyssey should talk to Pohanka Honda in Salisbury, MD

Paid $500 over invoice and got book (kbb excellent condition) trade for my Tahoe last week at a small-town dealer in Ohio. Was also offered the 7/100k Honda warranty for $995, but I don't buy ext. warranties. An excellent deal though for someone interested in such. The salesman indicated he'd prefer I not post their name all over the web but if anyone is interested, my email is in my profile. I think you can buy these in Columbus for invoice with some haggling and the general big-city dealer nonsense. I walked in and had all the papers signed in 7 minutes (was late for a dinner reservation) and was heading out the door. I passed on the salesman showing me everything because again, I was late for dinner! Gotta have priorities!

I've decided to pay cash rather than take a Honda loan. Having said that I want to use a credit card to get points or cash back. The dealer said that $3000 was the floor limit for charges. Has anyone else found this charge limitation to be similar at other dealers?
  • dangerous1dangerous1 Member Posts: 3
Just an update, a friend on mine bought the exact same vehicle I bought a month ago at the exact same price from my area dealer(central ohio) as in Chicago they were not able to get the vehicle at invoice price. However since this is the second vehicle the dealer gave a free accessory and sold all the other accessories we needed at their cost which turned out to be a good deal in all.

    26350 (EX Van Cloth interior+dvd(after market)+splash guards+wheel locks)
    +$100 (Documentation fee)
Honda All weather mats --> 99
    Cargo mat -> 78
    Cargo tray --> Free :)
  • b_radb_rad Member Posts: 38
As you know, it costs the dealer to accept a credit card. Your deal may reflect that charge if you were able to use your card. My sister was going to buy a $26k Nissan on a credit card to add to frequent flyer miles and the dealer wanted to charge her 1.5% for the transaction.
  • dangerous1dangerous1 Member Posts: 3
My dealer said the same thing $3000 is their credit card limit

I plan to plan EX-L (without DVD or NAV) in Houston, TX.

Can someone post his recent purchase price and dealership name in this area?

    Thanks,

Could you please post the dealership name in Conroe, TX which provides $30,273 drive out?

    I plan to buy EX-L.

Is it possible to add back up sensor after-the-market? Where?

Has anyone had experience with this dealer? They've offered a pretty attractive price for the Touring w/ Nav & DVD.
  • hondasalesconshondasalescons Member Posts: 2
Wow Zaphod, what we are all discussing is the problem that has plagued this industry for many years. It is opening an entire can of worms that I could go on and on about. Perhaps write a book.

First off, yes a $100 (before tax) flat commission is paid to a salesperson for selling a car that has little profit (or negative) for the dealership. This happens quite often in a competitive market and can make it tough to earn a living and support a family even if the consultant can sell 15-20 cars in a month. Not any of your business, I understand, but you don't see me walking into your place of business and asking to buy the product/service/information for less than cost.

Secondly, as a sales consultant, it is unfortunate that the industry has been given a bad rap by some bad apples. There are many dealerships out there that to a good job giving the customer a fair deal and excellent treatment. Asking them to open their wallets and be taken advantage of is a ridiculous analogy. I would never plead with someone to feed my fiance' and help pay for her tuition, but I would ask a customer for us to make a fair profit on the vehicle. After all, I am providing a service and an excellent experience while making it as pain-free as possible for my customer. I am a supporter, a technical support rep, a financial advisor, a friend, and a negotiator FOR my customers. I'm even going to marry one of my customers (and only one, so back off the rest of ya'). Please don't lump all dealers and sales consultants into one large group. We are not all created equal.

Thirdly, MSRP has become worthless in this industry. No one walks up to a counter in Wal-Mart asks to pay their cost or less. Yes, it is a much larger purchase, but the mark-up in a car is minimal compared to home appliances, furniture, electronics, homes, etc.... We as consumers are conditioned to negotiate on the price of an automobile. We know we are supposed to, and it is to be expected. It is ironic how a customer who negotiates very little, or any at all, drives away much happier about the purchase than the customer that obtains quotes from 15 different dealerships, visits and negotiates at 5 of them and finally makes a deal. That customer always feels the wear and tear of the process. They spend quite a bit of their time, most likely saved a bit of money, but feel like they always could have received a better deal and become very stressed over it. It is supposed to be a fun purchase, a special event, not a stressful situation.

That said, I feel that the industry will eventually turn into a retail store-front type operation with fixed prices. Toyota's spawn Scion has lead the way. It is only a matter of time, in my opinion.

    My plea to everyone:

Please respect your car salesperson (If they deserve it) as a human being earning a living. Make them work for their commission, but put yourself in their shoes from time to time. If the dealership you are at seems shady or does not give you respect, find one that will. It is YOUR money, wouldn't you rather spend it somewhere that deserves your business? Lastly, don't put all dealers and consultants in the same category. Let us not spend all of our time trying to bash them and the system. There are snakes out there, either run them over or run away.

    :)
  • hondasalesconshondasalescons Member Posts: 2
Yes, they are available through certain custom sound and security stores. I know of some in the Chicago area. They can run around $500 -600. Your dealer can probably do the legwork for you in installing some. I have for many of my customers wanting them but not buying Touring or the RES/NAV EX-L (camera).

    chewie5:

i check this board every so often but not regularly. i would be happen to share with you about my experience with yuba city honda.

in a nutshell, it was a very hassle-free, worry-free experience. in fact, my wife and i were not planning to purchase the van until the end of the year...but, yuba city honda had such a great deal that we could not pass it up.

as i have recommended to my friends, i would definitely send an email to the internet manager to see what pricing you can get. keep in mind, though, their inventory, and therefore selection, may be less that what's in the bay area.

let me know if you have any specific questions.
  • tom25tom25 Member Posts: 17
The E-LOAN and Capital Car Loan offer 4.49%.

Where can we get a better rate? Honda dealer only? How much?
  • chewie5chewie5 Member Posts: 61
    lopcheung,

I'm glad you checked in! I'm also in the market for a touring w/nav & DVD. Based on your post, I emailed them asking for the same deal that they gave you ($36,058). The internet manager said that he didn't recall giving anyone that price: "I don't know where you got this other number, but I have never quoted anyone that figure. "

Did you have to do a lot of haggling to get your deal? In all fairness, the price they quoted me was among the top two of all the dealers I've emailed...but thanks to you, I know I can get a better deal :)

One other question--did you get the extended warranty, and if so, how much did you get it for?

    Thanks again for responding!

Hey mango, I live in the BA and just bought a Honda EX tonight at below invoice price. See my latest post. It's from Concord Honda but not through a salesman but internet manager also. I can give you her name, she's nice. send me a post.

Never thought I can get that, but with the help of this forum I was able to arm myself with a good knowledge to present to dealers. My process was go to honda.com and send all SF Bay Area request for quote last Sunday night. Monday morning I got emails and phone calls on different quote. Whenever I get one I send it to the other. Monday evening I decide that I think I got a good deal. I actually have 2 similar offer, one in Dublin Honda, where I live and the other one in Concord Honda. I found out that the int. mgr from Dublin called Concord to get the silver color that I want. So what I did is to just go to the source and got the same price. Good experience, fast service, nice salesman and no haggling. I think I could have gotten a better price for the extended warranty but i can't find any dealer that just offers the warranty better than the price i got. overall, i can recommend them, just send me a post and i can give you the name. You can quote me and tell them that I bought from them on this price.
    Honda EX - cloth - 25877.88
    7yr/100K - 1375

    Send me a post. Thanks.

The salesman said that I could get 4.39 and that's what I was going to go with until closing at which time I started talking to the credit manger.

I ended up putting another thousand down to qualify for what they called a Honda equity in order get the 4.1% for up to 60 mo.
  • tom25tom25 Member Posts: 17
I am planning to buy a EX-L in Houston at $30300.00. I am thinking to have 60-month loan.

How much down payment should I put in order to qualify for the Honda equity of 4.1% for up to 60 months?

    Thanks a lot.

Question for folks who went through this.

I placed an order for Odyssey a month ago. The sale told me the waiting time was about 6 weeks. Now, 4 weeks has passed. According to their update, the car will be shipped tomorrow and scheduled to arrive in 6-7 working days. Should the dealer have the VIN by now?

    Thanks in advance!
  • jojo24jojo24 Member Posts: 8
You can actually cancel your order. There are a lot of odysseys on the lot right now. I just got mine last night and dealers that I got quotes are still calling me. Good luck!
  • myodymyody Member Posts: 17
I did not respond to dealers and their "quotes" without having a VIN #!!!

The dealers get the Vin# 2 weeks prior to delivery. If they are unable to give you this number,
chances are they will not get the vehicle or
have "ordered" it for another customer or
    are trying to trade

Good Luck, I own an 05' EXL R&N and only negotiated price once the dealers gave me the VIN!!! This helped to "weed out" alot of the BULL!
  • jojo24jojo24 Member Posts: 8
I agree. Did the same thing. Don't accept a quote unless there's a VIN in there. Go and ask for your car, otherwise, cancel your order and send an email to dealers for a quote then you pick the right one for you.

    good luck!
  • myodymyody Member Posts: 17
My opinion of salespersons has always been negative... The industry seems to attract people who view the world as "suckers!" However, because of boards like this and general information on the internet (edmunds/kelly blue book) I think the playing field has evened out...

    I dealt with 20 salespersons before I purchased my 05 EXL R&N via e-mail

I found the "AUTOMALL" salespeople to be the worst - it didn't matter if they were in Sacramento, Bay Area or Roseville- the "AUTOMALL" salespersons are classically trained to take advantage of customers - they still try to wear you down, pass you over, "accidentally" misquote your APR, etc

Having said that I must praise some of the smaller town dealers - they were eager to have my business, honest and responded quickly to questions...

My purchase was very exciting and the dealer was wonderful! (Jim Doten Honda/Berkeley) Because they respected me and my time and did everything I requested - I wrote a formal letter to American Honda acknowledging their dealership...

I enjoy my Odyssey Everyday!!! No Regrets
  • jojo24jojo24 Member Posts: 8
I agree again. I actually have a good experience with Concord Honda. They stayed late, did not waste my time and actually going back there to lower down the extended warranty payment I made. hope buying cars will be like this forever.

The dealers I've talked with in Nashville say they only sell at MSRP- I'm willing to travel. Need suggestions on good dealerships and what a good price would be. Thanks!!
  • yaskyyasky Member Posts: 9
Credit Union of Texas has 4.39%. If you sign up for their checking account(free), this drops to 4.19%. If you have it automatically deducted from any account (even outside the CU), this rate goes to 4.09%.

Suggest you check with some credit unions in Houston.

    chewie5:

i negotiated with the internet sales manager and he originally quoted me 36558. i was able to get it down to 36058. we purchased the car about 6 weeks ago so i'm not sure why he claims he doesn't remember.

it was extremely hassle-free. our price was settled over email before we went up to the dealership. the only "haggling" we had to do was to negotiate a fair trade-in price for our other car which we were able to do after some time.

i did not get the extended warranty but they did try to sell it to me. as i recall, the 7/100K price was around $1400 at this dealership. so i would recommend checking out the discussion board on this topic...there seems to be some competitively priced places elsewhere.

    hope that helps.
  • chewie5chewie5 Member Posts: 61
    Lopcheung,

He now says that he remembers you. He said that you had bought the vehicle prior to honda's increase of the invoice price (which is about $500, right?)

Thanks again for getting back to me. You've been very helpful!
  • lopcheunglopcheung Member Posts: 7
    chewie5:

fyi, i actually bought the vehicle AFTER the increase but it was right around the same time...so this vehicle may have had the old msrp on it. regardless, i still considered it a "steal" compared to what other bay area dealerships were quoting me at the time.
