I started the way most people do and walked into a dealer I had heard good things about in Fairfax VA. After 2 hours the best they would do on a EXL w RES was invoice+$1500, so I left feeling defeated. I found this group and started reading all the posts and the experiences that everyone else had and figured I would try getting internet quotes (best decision I ever made). I requested quotes from about 17 dealership in VA,MD,PA,OH (I live in Northern VA). I received responses from about 15 of them and they ranged from MSRP to Invoice. I picked the 3 that were the most reasonable and started to get color availability and delivery dates. About this time my wife decided she really wanted the NAV and so we went from a car that was generally available to one that is very hard to find (as you all know). I asked about 5 of the dealers for quotes on the DVD and NAV and same thing, MSRP to invoice. To cut the story short, I ended up dealing with APOSTOLAKIS Honda in Cortland OH. They were extremely friendly and straight forward. When I changed my mind, they gave me a quote and told me that they did not have one but would look for one. Within a week they had found it and they only asked for a deposit when it arrived on their lot. They just faxed me the window sticker from the car and I am going to pick it up this weekend. I will post again after I have picked up the car but I do not expect any surprises. Here are a few answers I thought people may ask:
1. No, we did not get our first choice in color (we wanted the beige but had the dark blue as a second choice and that is one they found. I guess we could have waited, but it was not that important to us).
2. No, I did not ask for a VIN number when I made my deal. I only asked for a VIN number when I gave them a deposit. I figured they had not held me to anything and where taking my word, I could extend the same courtesy to them.
3. No, they did not try to sell me a bunch of other extras. I have not picked it up yet, but I have confidence they are not going to play games with me.
4. Yes, I am Driving 300 miles to pick up the car. They offered to deliver it for $150 (very reasonable), but I am going to make a road trip of it with a buddy.
5. Yes, it is worth the trip. The best price I could find in the N VA area was about $2000 more. No one in this are is dealing on the EXL w/ RES and NAV.
6. Yes, I would recommend this dealer to others. So far they have been outstanding.
7. So what was the price: $31,300 + 125 Title & processing fee (I pay my own Tags and Tax when I get to VA).Total OTD is $32,429 if I added correctly.
I hope this was helpful, because I found everyone else’s post here helpful to me. Let me know if you have any questions, I will be glad to respond. I will send an update after this weekend when I get back
Thanks,
Abraham

good luck!
Every time I see the models they are different. What do they call the tourning with entertainment and dvd?
The salesman wrote down EX. He asked me if that was correct>>>>>>>>he asked me? I said it's the Touring....so he wrote that up on top of the paperwork.(not in the same box as the EX)
I have to say that they were very nice and gave me a decent price of
$37,400, including a bunch of accessories I wanted thrown in.
It was below Edmunds TMV price, so I was happy.
I left with nothing more than a credit card slip stating that I put $1000 down.
I called as soon as we got home and he said he'd fax me the paperwork tomorrow.
He said he'd either get a trade or have the car sent from the manufacturer.
It's on the paperwork that we will have the car by May 30th, which is fine.
I just worry about him writing EX on the paperwork. I called him back and he said he knew it was a touring.........and he wrote it on top.
But, I got nothing, when I left.........although he said he'd fax it over in the am.
I know that the touring has so many more features than the EX and I should be able to easily see that upon delivery , right?
I am very happy with the price and the gentlemen there were fantastic..........
should I worry over that or ???????????
Thanks
maddy
I'm in Murfreesboro and we went to Economy Honda in Chattanooga for our Odyssey. We got a base Touring for about $500 over invoice including destination in February. Prices may be closer to MSRP if you want RES & NAV, though. We didn't want the navi and installed an aftermarket Panasonic 9" DVD that can be played thru the stock stereo with an auxiliary input converter. I bet you could get a great price on an EX.
Forget Crest, Trickett and especially Darrell Waltrip. They wouldn't even consider offers other than MSRP or at best $500 off MSRP. Reddell Honda in Murfreesboro would deal, but they only had 1 Touring and it had a defect. We were under time constraints as my husband's Nissan was on it's last leg and couldn't wait for another delivery.
You might also try the Honda dealership in Dalton, Ga. I remember someone here posting about a smokin' deal they got on a base Touring right after we bought ours. Somewhere in the neighborhood of invoice + dest.
Other dealers
Rock Hill SC was about $580 above invoice via phone
Dick Brooks in Greer was about $251 above invoice via phone
Honda cars of Aiken was about $2200 above invoice in person
Gerald Jones Honda in Augusta would not quote over the phone
Success,
Todd
Yours is a Touring NAV/RES (I don't know what the actual Honda code is), if it had no NAV it would be a Touring RES.
What area are you in? My experience in the Dallas area has been that dealers have been unable to trade for NAV/RES Odysseys and that wait times (for ordering one) are at least 6 weeks...
I'm hoping to pick up our EX-L NAV/RES next week...
ETA
Yes, I am guessing there is not way they can pull a switch. They make you so nervous though.
I don't mind the wait...the contract states that we will have the car by May 30th.
They said the deposit is refundable.
I got nervous that they would say it was a touring and instead it was an EX with Navi RES. Or say that my paperwork states an EX. Although he wrote Touring on top.
If everything is okay. I must say our buying experience was great. The manager called me on the phone. I told him what Edmunds said you should pay for the car.
Then he said okay, threw in a bunch of accessories and we are paying 37, 500 + TTR.
I find it strange that you pay a destination charge and a delievery charge?
Destination is 515 and delivery as $399.
Hopefully, the whole experience is just fine. Then I can write a glowing report on them.
We are in Florida.

Our local dealer, unnamed at the moment, is asking MSRP plus $1000. Clearly, this is not an option.
Thanks.
While Edmunds' TMV might be indicative of the average selling price, it does reflect "best prices" or factor in geography. Good deals on Odysseys are hard to get in Florida. By way of contrast, I paid the old invoice price of $34,558 (which included $400 worth of accessories) plus $100 doc fee for the same vehicle in Columbus in February.
The $515 fee is charged by Honda to the dealer and there is no mark-up in it. The $399 "dealer fee" is common in Florida and is 100% profit for the dealer.
I had some contact with Flordia dealers relative to an Odyssey on behalf of my dad in March and the contrast with those in Ohio (both as to price and otherwise) was striking.
Yesterday, took delivery of a 2005 Odyssey EXL-RES from Honda Santa Ana.
I had three competing Out the Door prices (which unfortunately includes our local 7.75% sales tax): 33,000 - 33,130, - and the one I did pay: 33,200.
Why the extra change? Only ones to have the ext/int colors, had some extras thrown in- mud flaps, cargo tray, wheel locks.
For the non-SO-Cal people, that was about 30,500 price (not the best nationally) - but other dealers I spoke with wanted MSRP.
Honda Westminster would have been my first choice if they had stock.
Also, costco connection was Invoice plus $1k.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.
Bruce
I found that the local dealers including a couple I visited were sticking to the "no supply/high price" scenario.
2005 Odyssey EX with destination $26581.00
doc fees $45
tax $2063.52
license $242.75
final out the door: $28932.27
The fastest easiest deal I even made. Even the finance person was easy to speak to. No pressure, just an honest deal that I feel good about.
I used Edmunds.com to help us find the car we wanted and the price that we could expect to pay. Having timed it so we were going to the dealer on a Friday afternoon just before the end of the month I believe also contributed to the smooth purchase.
Meanwhile, the search goes on. ocdan you mention a dealer who did the deal for your EXL w/RES for $1K over invoice. Can you name the name? Maybe they want some more business.
Thanks,
Did you purchase an 05' EXL RES for $30,500?
(Your title says EXL w/RES and NAVI)
As soon as someone starts to dally or won't provide a straight answer to a simple question (such as will you sell this vehicle for X dollars), I head for the door.
My advice to you is to expand your search. Email 20 or 30 stores. If necessary, look out of state. You will get some replies - several will be serious and a couple will have favorable numbers.
I contacted 21 dealerships including a few in Pennsylvania and Ohio to get prices. I ended up with the following deal:
Final Price - $29,714 including destination
Added Honda Tow Package for $899 installed - total price ended up at $31,600 with financing @ 4.25%.
Other offers I received for the EX-L RES in the DC area:
Pohanka Honda (Marlow Heights, MD) - $29,487 including destination (didn't have Redrock Pearl)
Landmark Honda (Alexandria, VA) - $29,872 plus $515 destination
Ourisman Honda (Bethesda, MD) - $29,900 plus $515 destination
FYI - installed tow packages ranged from $800 to $1400.
Thanks to everyone for the information on prices!
Thank you everyone for contributing in this forum and it has been a great experience for shopping a valued Odyssey. Dealers that gave outrageous quotes, i did not waste my time on.
We really like our EXL and the kids are crazy about the lazy suzy.
Thanks,
Bruce

I have very limited car buying experience and feel that I have not done as well for myself as I should when car buying.
In your opinion, if I wait till the start of the 2006 model year, do I stand a better chance of striking a better bargain on a 2005 Odyssey or are 2005s moving so quickly that there is little chance of this happening? For that matter, when do you think 2006s will start showing up on showroom floors?
For what it's worth, I hope to get an EX-L/Nav/RES.
Thanks for any advice/opinions you may have.
Which dealership did you go to? Did you get a DVD? Thanks.
The '05s hit the ground in about the third week of September, somewhat early for Honda. Figure the same or later for the '06s.
However, I could not make a good deal with anyone there and I thought that I need to go to a bigger dealership for the better deal. Could anyone please recommend me the good dealerships in either LA or San Diego where you got a pleasant deal particularly for EX-L?
I appreciate anyone's response^^.
Have a nice day
1) end of month
2) end of quarter (even better than end of month)
3) end of tax season (mid April)
4) Christmas/Thanksgiving
5) rainy days/ rainy weekends
6) mid- week vs. weekend
7) model changes
Other suggestions: How much inventory is on the lot?
Does the "new" Ody have more than 20 miles on it?
(this implies its not a "hot car" & you can get a good deal)
Only bargain on price once the dealer has the VIN #
I hope these suggestions help you... I brought my 05' Ody EXL R&N mid April when potential customers were paying taxes (or already had spent their refunds) , the dealership needed to make quarterly sales figures, I got a ETA and a VIN# & it was mid-week (Wednesday). I had a GREAT EXPERIENCE - FAIR PRICE
