We live in No. VA and bought this exact model about 3 weeks ago, but we had to go out of the area to get a decent price. As you've found, the local dealers were unwilling to come down much, and I guess you can't blame them if people are willing to pay their price. We paid $32,364 including destination ($1,000 over invoice), plus taxes, tags and fees. We wound up purchasing from Mechanicsburg Honda near Richmond and had a great experience with them. Pohanka of Salisbury offered nearly the same price ($100 more), but Mechanicsville was closer and had a color we liked better. Hagarstown Honda also seemed to be responsive and fairly aggressive on pricing, but not as much as the other two.

FWIW, my only other recommendation is to avoid the Rosenthal dealers, including Landmark Honda, Fairfax Honda and others that don't necessarily say "Rosenthal". I've never had a good experience with any Rosenthal dealer and while we were shopping for our Odyssey one guy from Landmark Honda was very obnoxious, which only reinforced my opinion of Rosenthal dealers. YMMV

I contacted many dealers through the Internet. Too many to list here. Some were very straightforward but some still acted like showroom salesmen when they contacted me. I like those who are direct to the point -- giving me their best price and that's. I bought from Honda of Essex. They and Monmouth Honda offered the best price. Then it was Coast Honda. This was based on my own experience of shopping an EX at that particular time. For a different model and at a different time they might not be the ones that offer the best price.

    Hi tpan,

Thanks for sharing is it possible to list the rate you got for EX.
  • looking4exllooking4exl Member Posts: 11
Ok, here's what Landmark Honda (VA) came back with (they had sent me an email saying they were doing employee pricing on all Hondas). It doesn't sound like the employee price to me! What do you all think?

$28,833 plus tax, license, document preparation charge, finance charges, destination charges, appearance package and PDI fee (used vehicles only), where applicable.

See for yourself! "SAFETY CONCERN" in bold per the government safety side impact crash test. The Sienna didn't have this.

Also, no side airbags in row 2/3 for the upper body. Shame on you !!!

Why? Because they know they're dealing with an informed customer who is intent on buying a van as close to invoice as possible?
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
They know that most of these are just a waste of time. I know you wouldn't understand because you haven't tried to ferret through the ton of "Blast Faxes" that dealers receive every day.

    looking4exl,
This is NOT the price you should look for. i am assuming you have to pay all kinds of fee mentioned above ..
well here's what i have come on agreement with the dealer, tomorrow i'll be taking the delivery, lets hope he honors the price...
The deal is 28,450(500 over invice) documentation fee, destination included.
only $10 for the temp title.
PLUS cargo tray, all season mat and splash guard ($ 423 )included in the price...
I had one more dealer giving me the same deal for 28,350 but he didnt have the immediate delivery so i opted the other.....
    desert rock sand EXL...
Will definitely keep u posted once i closed the deal....
This is in St. louis area,mo
  • anu_shrianu_shri Member Posts: 13
    You are absolutely right heywood...
isellhonda wont believe becoz he might have not dealt with the customers like me and you, he must be used to of the customers who come and pay what dealers say and not what they want.. but i am absolutely not like that i got the so called"Best selling Van" on my terms and my price...
you wont believe the dealer whom i negotiated with, told my husband your wife did a very good job after closing the deal and we both smiled at each other...
  • anu_shrianu_shri Member Posts: 13
If you are in st.louis area, i got the best quote from Meyer honda.
Stephen vincel was next, but i didnt like the lady who was working with me and i told her "forget it that i'll ever pay you the price u r asking", she told me that the van i liked somebody came to see and they(dealer) have asked 1000 over invoice to them and she can do 500 over invoice to me for immediate delivery but no assessories.
next came st.louis honda they were ready for 800 over invoive with $300 worth assesory free( but i didnt like the assessories they were offering), so they were out.
but i would still say be patient, you will get the good deal if you are ready to work hard and drive a bit, suburbe gives a good deal rather then the city dealers and then u can ask the city dealer to match it, if they cant just drive a bit, have fun with the family and drive back with the new car......
  • anu_shrianu_shri Member Posts: 13
I takled to about 6 dealers at the same time started with the lowest quote i was offered and some were offering free accessories so i got the idea what they can get ready for. made a package deal including fees, assesories and told each dealer if u cant come down on the price give me this assesory free or no doc fee and all possible combinations.
i talked to meyer honda, stephen vincel, st. louis honda, albert honda in columbia(best offer), dene lambkin honda , grand honda(chicago) and one more.
finally they all were neck to neck all i had to pick was who is near and offering the assesories which i want...
i paid the invoice price( taking into account the assesory package i was given and no doc fee) and immediate delivery of my choice of color
  • anu_shrianu_shri Member Posts: 13
i got the financing from the credit union at 4.3% for 60 months.....
  • anu_shrianu_shri Member Posts: 13
Macgrath honda in chicago was offering 27,800 including dest + 53 doc fee and no assesories, but i couldnt drive that far and no local or near by dealer were able to match that price.
i think its the same price what someone got in boston...
chicago people you have an edge over others like me....
  • tpantpan Member Posts: 8
    arvinth,

Were you talking about interest rate? I don't know because I arranged financing from a outside bank. If you were talking about price, I bought it for $24,995.
  • muddyriverduckmuddyriverduck Member Posts: 18
Honda raised MSRP and Invoice prices on Vans built after February 14th. You are not getting ripped off and all Odyssey EXs are exactly the same, you were just looking at an older van.

    Duck.

I am getting ready to purchase. How can I tell the vehicle manufacturing date.
Also if I get a VIN number from the dealer, can I verify trim/manufacture date online?
  • john_doejohn_doe Member Posts: 5
look at the side of the driver door for a sticker with manufacture date
  • gizzanksgizzanks Member Posts: 13
We picked up our Silver Pearl EXL-RES at Lynwood Honda. $30,850. +Tax, lic, etc.

I know others are getting them for less in other parts of the country but for the Seattle area that was the best I could find. They did include their 7 yr / 70K powertrain warranty which no on else is offering.

Love the van. The kids love the RES.

Right now all the NW dealers are heavily discounting the Pilots but not the Ody's.

    Hi, anu_shri,
would you please tell me which Mcgrath Honda in chicago and who the contact person was you were referring to? I am in chicago and looking to buy the same (EXL). Congratulations on a very good purchase!

Thanks. In light of your information I found this link: http://www.hondanews.com/CatID2000?mid=2005021446413&mime=asc.

Now I understand why they could offer that price.
  • jimconnorjimconnor Member Posts: 6
You can create a free account at the Honda Owner Link site and enter VIN to get details about the trim level and color. I don't think it will show you the manufacture date though.

Note that you can remove these VINs from your profile on the site once you've validated information.

Just got my Ocean Mist/Grey EXL yesterday. Paid "invoice" including holdback, $27, 948, plus taxes, DMV fees, doc fees, etc. No delivery fees. Had several dealers competing at this price, dealer who had the color I wanted in stock won my business (if anyone asks, I'll describe the color as "gunmetal blue"-- very macho, doncha' think?)

Though I felt confident of my research before I signed, I have discovered one bummer: no DRL daytime running lights! How could Honda exclude this safety feature on a family car? I ended up going ODY over Sienna 'cuz I valued safety features like curtain airbags, etc. Other than that, am thoroughly pleased with my purchase (after a whopping 62 miles of experience!)

Dealer tried to sell me on extended warranty saying that VCM is new tech, so might be worth extra insurance. I elected to place my trust in Honda's reliability (another reason I bought the car in the first place).

Superior was the highest quote but willing to match offer. The best offer came from Covington Honda but they are across the lake. Superior has not got the process streamline yet when we came in to put down the deposit as well as fill out the paper work that took about 45 min. They have to order the van for us when the van arrive after looking over the van it took us another 45 min to process. Other then that the buying process was very painless since everything was done thru email.
  • lumbarlumbar Member Posts: 421
It strikes me that it doesn't really matter if most dealers throw them in the trash as long as all dealers don't. Both seller and buyer have an interest in weeding out the non-players as soon as possible in the process.

Agreed on the final price of $31,563.65 for a slate green exterior. Deal is final, but we have to wait about a month before getting the vehicle. Want olive leather interior, which no one in the surrounding area seems to have! Could get a different color combination, but we decided to wait. Paid $300 deposit. In addition to 6% IN tax, there is a $114.25 that we need to pay (looks like tire tax, document fee, etc.), will probably know more when finalizing the purchase.

Another local dealer made a comment after hearing my price "they must be fool or there is something wrong in the deal, and you may never see the car". His final price was $800 over invoice. I guess in his opinion, the price of the vehicle was too low. Checked with another dealer, and looks like the wait time would be same. So now just wait for about a month (I know it will seem like years  )....

This forum was really helpful. Good luck to you all.

    McGRATH HONDA

    CHICAGO ST
    ELGIN, IL 60120
I cannot post the name of the sales person. but i did sent the internet request so probably he deals with that dept.
you can also try sending an email request first.
lemme tell u one more thing, first he said my (dealer) invoice is 29000 and i can get u one for that price,as if i am a layman.
i said thanks for ur time but i am not looking forward to this price.
he asked me what price i have i told him with the assesory it is invoice price.
so he offered me below invoice price at that time.
i would say u might have to negotiate to get that price but Good luck....

    Thanks

At least one other Seattle area dealer is matching Lynnwood's warranty. Only they use a well known, long established warranty company.

In NJ. Paid $750 below invoice. Picked up the van today and am very pleased with the deal. Most other dealers in the area would not touch the price.

The dealer tried to sell me the hondacare 7 yr warranty and the tire package and the total protection package. I passed on those for now.

I'm looking to buy the same model in the next week or so and I'm in NJ. Could you tell me which dealer your bought from? Congrats on your new Odyssey. Thanks in advance.

I just purchased an EX no leather in the Atlanta area. There were currently only two in the city at different dealers. The one I bought had 1,495.00 of dealer options already on it. The protection package with acid rain protector, mudguards, crossbars and supposedly cloth protection on the seats and mats. This made the MSRP 28,195 + 1,495=29,690. I had internet prices from four dealerships. I chose this dealership because they had the cheapest quote and had one in stock. I realized when I got there that the quote of did not include these dealer options. I paid $26,185 not including dest., tax and other fees. Did I pay too much? Do all dealers put these options on?

Just returned from local Honda dealer. We are looking at the 2005 odyssey E-XL after visiting other dealers with my best price we returned to the source. I was offered an E-XL with $3000.00 total out of pocket for $355.00 for 36/12,000. taxes included. OR $2500.00 total out of pocket for $375.00 for 36/12,000. taxes included.
Are thses good deals or am I being taken??????

Would you please let me know what is the dealer's name ?
  • gizzanksgizzanks Member Posts: 13
Yes, but they are not leading with it, only offering it if they need to match - at least that was my experience. Either way, if it's not a Honda care warranty they are all just minimal piece of mind insurance. Lynwood's warranty is from one of the largest 3rd party vendors so it was better than nothing - If I'm worried I'll buy the Honda care online in 24 mos.

Besides I have other problems with that dealership - like the fact they add about 300- 500 in junk accessories to each car (wheel locks, trim, etc) as soon as it comes in off the truck. Those two things really left a bad taste in my mouth. I had bought a few Hondas there before but the place has taken a turn for the worse.

I live in Arlington and bought a Touring with dvd/nav on 5/5/2005. I bought at Jones Honda in Lancaster PA. 135 miles away and I got it for $35,936. They were great and I would not hesitate to call them. My neighbor bought from also (before I did). She got an EX with cloth. I put my deposit down and they located the exact car I wanted within 4 days!

sweeping generalizations about leasing = uninformed

Still, you'd need a lot more information to judge whether it's a good deal, and, when the numbers are quoted that way (with large cap cost reduction and monthly payments), the odds are against you. You should start with making the dealer quote you the "selling price" on which the lease is based (i.e., not the MSRP). Do not accept a "package" such as the numbers that you were quoted; break the whole thing down, including the interest.

Anyone can share the pricing info for Ody EX in the local area and who they dealt with.

We are starting our search now but we are sure we are going to buy the EX model. This past weekend we went to the credit union sponsored "no haggle" sales event and got a quote of $27582 + $169 processing fee for EX model. They have one in stock. Seems little high to me. This is from Automotive Avenues dealer who work with primarily Credit Unions.

    thanks a bunch!

    Hi,
We are looking to buy a 05 EX (cloth) soon. We missed the low financing Memorial day sale in end of May. Does anyone know whether a comparable sale ( 4th of July) is coming up soon?

    Thanks.

COST OF THE VAN WAS $100 OVER INVOICE,$27,600. MONEY FACTOR WAS HONDA BASIC IN AREA .00255, RESIDUAL WAS ABOUT 58%.
WHEN I ADD IT UP IT COMES TO ALOT MORE THEN THEY QUOTED ME. DOES ANYONE KNOW WITH THIS BUYING PRICE IF THEY ARE ROBBING ME.
i KNOW LEASES IN GENERAL ARE HORRIBLE AND I WOULD RATHER BUY BUT RIGHT NOW I CANT.
  • rktechrktech Member Posts: 25
Leases in general are not necessarily horrible...honestly, I wouldn't kid you. Maybe take a little time to research leasing on the web. If you start with a good price for the van, get a good money factor, the type of annual mileage you're most likely to drive, and the typically wonderful Ody residual, I'd say you're set.

There are some lease software programs available online that allow you to calculate different lease deals...just plug in your numbers and compare...maybe Google auto leases and see what you get...
