    Jerry-

If they are discontinuing these colors, is there any truth to the reeaddition of a shade of blue? What about other colors?

Please let us know... Thanks! Wholigan

Information courtesy of Geri Serber Sweet of Buerkle Honda in White Bear Lake, MN.

The colors for the 2003 Odyssey are as follows: Midnight Blue Pearl, Sage Brush Pearl (replaces Granite Green), Evergreen Pearl, Sandstone Metallic (replaces Mesa Beige), Starlight Silver Metallic, Taffeta White, Redrock Pearl, Havasu Blue and Nighthawk Black Pearl (exclusive to the leather models).

So how can I see this new color before I take delivery of the pearl red I now have on order? I have called dealers around me and they laugh and say those colors won't be out until July or August. I am in Traverse City MI...is the color anything like the dark blue that is on the 2002 Grand Caravan's? Anyway to get at the colors on the internet? I went to the honda site and could not find anything.

The same argument can be made for the benefits of plain white underwear. Except the part about looking dirty. :-)

What you say is true, I lived in FL for many years, and white cars were the way to go. But color is a very personal choice, not always a practical one. No one argues the practicality of white - witness the color of most fleet pickup trucks. The Ody looks nice in white, and there aren't too many around here, which makes it look even better.

Saw new Redrock Pearl Odyssey today. Red not attractive on large vehicle.
  • dchoppdchopp Member Posts: 256
If you can hold off, I would wait until the 2003 info comes out or put your name on the 2003 list for the color you really want. No use in spending all that money on a color that is your second choice. To me the midnight blue will be more like a navy or darker blue. I look for them to dump the red shortely because after talking to two high volume dealers, they indicate it is not the most popular color in the van.

I'm thinking about getting one. Can everyone tell me how much above/below MSRP the dealers are charging ? I live in San Diego and would be very interested in hearing back from those who live in this area. But feedback from others are appreciated as well. I get the impression that the "shortage" on this popular van is pretty much over. I do see a few on the parking lots of local dealers. Thank you.
  • dchoppdchopp Member Posts: 256
The ones you see on the lots are already spoken for and they are waiting for customers to come pick them up. A few of the high volume dealers get some extras or people who order them change there mine. Thats how I got mine. I happen to be in the right place at the right time. There still is a shortage although the waiting time is getting smaller.

Anyone know when Honda starts building/distributing for the new model year? I might be looking at a 2003 and don't want to wait until late fall. Doesn't Honda come out w/ their new models in October?

Regarding the keyfob, I have locked my Civic w/ the remote several times in my sister's driveway and have stood next to the car only to hear the car unlock itself. This has happened several times and only near my sister's house (which is a few miles from an air force base). No where else. I was no where near the unlock button. Guess she won't be interested in buying my car off of me.....Not sure what the explanation is (Hanger 18 or the Xfiles)?
  • dchoppdchopp Member Posts: 256
This sometimes happens at a mall if I park to close to the stores. It seems the mall security jams the alarm system and door unlock system. Sometimes I have to stand two feet away to open the doors and other times I comeout and there already unlocked. I just park further away and that eliminates the problem.

    I have the color chart.

What ladypilot said is true. The new blue, looks to me, very similar to the Eternal Blue of the Civic and Accord, maybe a shade darker. The Sagebrush and the Sandstone will be very big sellers. Nighthawk black pearl with that blue metal flake on a EXL Odyssey and privacy glass will look good.

    Should be fun...as Odysseys are!

I wish Honda would just duplicate the colors of the Chrysler Town and Country or the DC. They have such great colors to pick from and its generally a chore. With the Oddy there was only one we both liked. I personaly would like to be overwelmed with colors.

We are relocating to Anchorage this summer and are considering buying an Odyssey, but it is not AWD, we already have another 4wd in the family which we will keep. Should we go for the Odyssey, is AWD really needed in Anchorage?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I lived in Anchorage for 20 years, moving "Outside" two years ago. I drove FWD all those years, including an '89 Voyager and '99 Quest.

The answer depends somewhat on what part of town you live in. I was close to town, so didn't have to deal with those glaciated "unimproved" roads on the hillside or long unplowed driveways very often. FWD and studded tires worked fine for me. ymmv :-)

I bought a 2000 ex mesa beige in april 2000 and when the 2002's came out I sold it for what I paid for it after driving it 18000 miles... both times I got SOOO ticked at the Local Honda Dealers here in San Diego
..the best Deal I could get was $1000 over sticker..I Emailed every Los Angeles Dealer thru the Honda Dealer Locate web site... I told them I would pay sticker only with no dealer mark-ups or add ons... I had several dealers call and offer either vans that they were about to recieve or had in stock at that moment for sticker..with no Games... I have done this four different times.. twice for myself and twice for my neighbor we both moved up to the 2002"s when they came out.Try It You Will Like IT

I wanted to share my recent experience about a brand new (no miles) 2002 Ody. Most posters here are extremely positive about this van. For those of you who are happy with their Ody, this is not meant to criticize you in any way. But I wanted to post for those serious "LOOKING TO BUY" folks, like I was, to give my experience and my point of view. That is what these boards are all about.

This van was the exact color I was looking for, a top of the line ODY w/ NAV. I went to the dealer in the hopes that I would be like so many others and love this van and take it home. I took it for a test drive here in So. Cal. on paved roads and the freeway. The following occurred:
The dealer was able to fix this problem:
    1. There was a ticking sound in the dash. Said it was a bad strut -they put 30+ miles on the vehicle to figure this out.
The following the dealer said was NORMAL for this van and there was NO FIX:
    2. The brake pedal was very noisy and clicked when pressed. The hydraulic brakes swished loudly every single time the brakes were depressed (they slightly adjusted for this but it remained). Very annoying.
    3. There was a periodic rattling sound from under the vehicle.
    4. The driver side sliding door rattled periodically as well.
    5. There was a loud bang whenever we backed the car up and stopped. My husband said it sounded like we were rolling over a dead cat. The dealer said this:
    a. This is the gas in the gas tank swishing around. or
    b. This is a normal sound for all large cars with a big tank - that you can hear the gas moving around. We all know what a load this explanation is. or
    c. This is not the gas but just a normal sound the Ody makes.
    6. The ABS brake system is extremely loud. Never heard any vehicle with such loud ABS. Try a very hard stop for yourself.
    7. The van also had alot of road noise come through the interior, although I could have lived with this.

I have owned many types of cars and SUV's in my life so I speak with experience: Toyota, Lexus, Ford, Mazda, BMW, and Jeep.

This is not to say there are not some great things about this vehicle. With a 2 and 6 year old and one on the way, I will miss the convenient power sliding doors more than I can imagine at this point. The easy access to the rear was also a huge selling point. The interior is quite spacious. This van w/ 240 hp had plenty of power and handled very well.

I expected a quality vehicle, without noises and a solid fit and finish. In my opinion this is not what the Ody is. These problems described are NORMAL according to the dealer and service department. This is a very large dealer I went to so they know their vehicles. I was shocked and very disappointed that the van had all these problems.

If you want an Ody, please take a thorough test drive first.

If anyone has any questions feel free to email me.

What kind of maintenance are we doing to the doors and the door switches?
  • pluto5pluto5 Member Posts: 618
Surprised that the paint didn't flake off while you were test driving, too. I test drove both an 01 (used) and 02 (new) Ody and both were impressive (for a minivan). Honda is still relative new at building minivans, expecially ones with sliding doors. Give them another year or two and they will probably get everything right. Don't have much hope for DC, especially if they start putting MB components into their minivans as they are threatening to do on other vehicles! Waiting for the 03's and will compare Ody and GC again. Hopefully, teens will refuse to ride in a minivan anymore by then and will be able to get a new sedan!

    Jerry,
Thanks for the information on the colors. I went to our local dealer this morning and saw the Eternal Bue on an Accord. I really liked it.

Can you tell me if they plan to change any options on the 2003 EX Odyssey?

Is pricing out yet for the 2003 models?

I have a 2002 Redrock pearl ordered..due in Mid June for $28,300 out the door with roof rack cross bars, mud flaps and plate transfer.

I am thinking about changing this order to a 2003 Midnight Blue Pearl but want to know how long I would have to wait for one and what the price difference would be. Thanks for your help.
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
I cant really say when they will have the new colors available. It could be like the Havasu Blue and be a late starter (spring). The new Sage Brush and the other tan, I'm sorry, but my brain is fried after a long day at work...these are due out at the start.

If you like the Redrock, then go for it. If you can wait, and would regret not having the Blue...I would counsel you to wait.

The only maintanance you need to do to the door is keep the junction switches clean. You can do this with a pencil erraser. If you want some speed in the cleaning I use a broken pencil, erraser side out in my cordless drill and zoom zoom zoom there clean.
  • billg7billg7 Member Posts: 342
I know that a regular pencil eraser will wear the gold off of gold plated contacts. Don't know what it will do to the Odyssey door contacts.

From working in the aerospace industry, they used a plastic eraser, as it did not cause any wear. The brand that they liked the best, at the time anyway, was Staedtler Mars-Plastic. I think maybe Office Depot sells that brand. I also find it works great for erasing pencil marks off of paper. It removes the marks cleanly and does not damage the paper.

I just took delivery of an EXL: there is a Squeaking noise from somewhere in the right dashboard area (I think, as I've not been able to isolate it).
I'm pissed because this either didn't happen on the test drive, or I missed it. It happens during small bumps or instances of "chasssis flex", such as irregularities or uneveness on the road.
  • rockycowrockycow Member Posts: 114
I had a squeak in my 99 Ody on the left dash side, I isolated it by pushing on the windshield which stopped the squeak, I put in a piece of thin cardboard as a temp fix the dealership put in a piece of thin plastic -been over a year ago no more squeak. good luck

I just discovered that the front tires on my Ody are down to the wear indicators at 1/32" while the back tires show 6/32" These are Michelin Symmetry's that should get nearly 65,000 miles - My van has done less than 30,000 miles - Two separate tire dealers say that this shows that the tires were not rotated at the correct intervals and that there are signs of miss-alignment of the wheels too - The Ody has been serviced by the Honda dealer since day one and the service records show the tires were rotated and wheels aligned at the intervals recommended by Michelin - someone's lying....

Hi, I have a 2000 Odyssey with the all red tail lights. I would really like to have the 2002 version that have amber turning lights. If any of you 2002 Odyssey owners would like to trade, please let me know at neech7@yahoo.com

    Thanks!!
  • dchoppdchopp Member Posts: 256
Now who in there right mind would do that? Well you might find a few. BTW you can order them through your Honda Dealer Parts Dept.

Doesn't cost anything to ask. But please don't ask here - it looks like soliciting and that's a no-no.

    To all,
I'm sure this has been addressed but I can't find anything specific. I'm going to change out the speakers on my 2001 Odyssey EX. Can someone give me the color code key for the polarity of the wires (i.e. + and -) for the front door and rear speakers. Also, does anyone have a better method other than just cutting the wires to splice in the new speakers? Thanks!

My EX-L RES is scheduled to be made the week of June 15th and the dealer tells me that it should be in two weeks after that! I am hoping to be driving my ODY home in about a month. I have stopped looking at everything else and dealing with any other Honda dealers, let's just hope that it gets made on time and the delievery time is only 2 weeks after manufacture. Anyone getting delays right now??
  • pearsonrjpearsonrj Member Posts: 51
Actually there was a poster on another Odyssey board who has a Redrock Pearl 2002 Odyssey and he wanted to swap his lights with the all-red lights from an earlier year Odyssey, so that his van looked uniformly red at the back. Go figure.

I'm in the market for a minivan. The only one that really appeals to me is the Odyessy. I think a big part of the reason it's so appealing to me is because it's a Honda. But from some of the things I've been reading about it, it seems to have some traits that are uncharacteristic of Hondas, such as reliability problems, and build quality issues. Are these relitively isolated incidences, or are the Odyessys actually not up to the usual Honda standards? I'd really appreciate everyone's input. Thanks.

Remember for the large part only the people with problems are posting here, not the many thousands who are happy.

Might it be possible if my transmission needs replacement on my 1999 Odyssey to put in a 5-speed instead of the old four it had before.
We sure are happy with ours. My wife lets me drive it when it needs gas or mechanical work, otherwise its hers.
I am about to replace the original tire with 34k on the odometer. I am still whether the Mich. x-ones 215/65/16 or the 235/60/16 would better perform. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!!!

My wife and I have been looking for a minivan for quite some time. There just seem to be so many obstacles to getting just the right mix of features from those offered by the manufacturers. We have simple requirements. 1. Sunroof 2. Driver's side gas fill 3. Disappearing rear seat 4. Electric sliding doors.

The Honda seems to come close, but I have yet to see one with a sunroof. I haven't even seen a dealer's option sunroof.

Has anyone heard of a factory-style, after-market sun/moonroof for the odyssey? Thanks
  • mommyof4mommyof4 Member Posts: 46
I'm happy with my '01 TW EX, though it would be nice if I could have better seats for the front like the ones Honda puts in for the MDXs.

On top of that, having a portable washer/dryer along with a refrigerator would be even nicer. :)

I want to purchase a light-colored Odyssey EX-L with beige interior - which means the Mesa Beige in the 2002 models. Does anyone know if there will be other color combos in the 2003 that will meet my criteria? I'm ready to buy now but could wait if there will be other combos.

I live in northern VA (outside of DC) and the prices here are exorbitant. My husband wants to pay below MSRP. Can anyone give me a reference to a dealer within a few hours drive that charges below MSRP?
  • indybuckindybuck Member Posts: 1
I have an order in for a 2002 EX. A GG is available now, I prefer the Havasu Blue which will arrive in July.

Have seen the discussions on the 2003's and the new color chart. Can someone provide a link to the new colors. Anyone know if Honda would have a blue interior with any of the 03 colors?

Lastly, I was quoted $1200 for the warranty, and yet have seen them on here for $800 - $900. Are these $800 - $900 ones through Honda or another company?

    Thanks
  • dchoppdchopp Member Posts: 256
Yes there are. I got a price on my 2002 EX and it includes the tilt up and slide internal with a matching your interior sunshade all for about $1400. The installer told me the Oddys are labor intensive because they have to move some airconditioning duct work around. Just make sure you take it to a very reliable place that car dealers use because there are a lot of shoe makers out there.
  • neech7neech7 Member Posts: 23
Thanks, pearsonrj, for your tip. BTW, I checked with an online site and its gonna cost over $200 plus tax and shippping to get a new set. Not exactly small change to me. Although that still beats getting a set from Tokyo a couple years back, where I heard it would cost over $500. The LaGreat has amber turning lights since the beginning.

Steve/Host: I am surprised to learn that doing a little trading with no money changing hands is a no-no. I won't ask again.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
The problem is drawing the line - ads and spam have a way of filling up the boards if we let too much "trading" going on. Likewise, sometimes it hard to separate the "good dealer" posts from ones by sales people pretending to be happy buyers! (That's why we discourage posting dealer contact info here too).

I too prefer the look of the yellow tail lights.I own a 2001 Odyssey and a 2002 Civic.I see the Odyssey has gone from red to yellow and the Civic used to have yellow and now they are red.I miss out on both counts.

I find it odd that they have gone in different directions with these two vehicles.Anyone know why?

    Red -> Amber - Safety
Amber -> Red - Cost reduction

I got a Ody 99 and just replaced all the tires with the wider one w/c is a 235/16/60. Handling is superb and like it a lot!
  • shuttsmeupshuttsmeup Member Posts: 3
Yasua, do the wider tires make your van look better as well?

Are the wider tires recommended or approved by Honda?
  • dmathews3dmathews3 Member Posts: 1,739
His new tires are just maybe a 1/4" wider than what comes on the 02's. 02 tires are 225/60 x 16 and even with his being a 99 I doubt there is much difference. Go to http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

to see the actual difference in any tire size.

Does yellow plastic cost more than red plastic?
  • grandtotalgrandtotal Member Posts: 1,207
No, yellow plastic does not cost more than red. What does cost more is making a taillight lens in three colours instead of two.
  • aggyaggy Member Posts: 2
Does any one have an idea what the new Sandstone color looks like? Is it lighter or darker than Mesa Beige? I'd like to order a vehicle but I'm hesitant to order a color that I haven't actually seen in real life.
