I would like to take it to a dealer to have them "check it out" for me, but I don't really know what to ask them to look for. Anything in particular? Maybe pertaining to FL? I am DEFINITELY asking them about the tranny and past recalls...but that's about the extent of my list. Any suggestions? Is an extended warranty (~$1k-2k) worth tacking onto my purchase for "peace of mind"?

Thank God, you didn't buy a domestic and not like it!
Hopefully all will be well with your Sienna!
"Under the hood, the Honda's 3.5-liter V6 purrs away at highway speeds and remains quiet and smooth under more aggressive acceleration. We were surprised to find that the Odyssey was slightly quieter than the Sienna with regard to both wind and engine noise."
"After driving them all back-to-back, I can say this with 100-percent confidence: the Honda handles the best, is the quietest at freeway speeds, has the most comfortable seating and has the second-best ride quality. The Sienna is its only real challenger. The Toyota has a very slight advantage in pure ride quality (very cushy), but that ride quality comes at a price in handling and steering feel (also very cushy)."
Pretty good for a 6-year old design aganist the new, state of the art competition in Sienna!! Quieter too!!

I went back to the specs on the honda website and noticed that the LX does not have the "heat resistant glass" that comes with the EX. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I figure that I can have the windows tinted by the dealer or have the EX windows installed on the LX. Any idea how much this would cost.
Thanks in advance
Michael
I hate to replace with the same parts if they are defective. Anyone have similar problems and found a satisfactory solution?
Been a year since I bought (2003 EX-L w/RES) and I thought I'd check in...
First and foremost, its GREAT to finally see that people are getting better deals. Amazing to see what a little competition will do! And don't be ashamed about not getting that 2005 model. Remember that experience is on the side of all those boxy Ody late 2003 - 2004 models (my guess is - so will be the deals as well).
BTW - when did Honda start offering the RES in the EX without the leather package?!?!
Where we are at...
- Just turned 21000 miles - all dealer serviced
- Daughter baptized the paint one week after we brought it home - ran her bicycle handle across the passenger slider
- Wife got hit in the front driver wheel - much to everybody's surprise, the only damage was to the aluminum rim that was replaced at the "hitters" expense...
- Needed to have doors lubricated because of "metal on metal" sound (dealer fixed)
- Had a couple of phantom door closing failures and occasional beeping (door alarm only - no dashboard light) inside as you were accelerating - not necessarily fixed - they just stopped happening after last fall (however, lubrication above may have helped the issue - the door affected was the driver's side slider)
- one unidentified noise when the TCS light come on (won't see that until the next snowfall)
Here are my "happy" points:
-Mileage is just about as advertised 17/24 for our use on regular (87 Octane) unleaded gas...
-FABULUOUS ride; especially loaded up and long trips - just awesome!
-Extremely Kid friendly (cup holders, cleaning up spills off leather, the RES, etc.) - also - the RES has paid for itself by eliminating the phrase "Are we there yet?"
Things that could be improved:
- On windy days, the cabin needs the radio on a little louder...
- Paint scratches VERY easily - almost too easily - and it really shows on the dark colors - buy a bottle of touch-up paint...
- I do miss the split rear magic seat, however, I couldn't pass up the deal I got at the time (Invoice + $2)
- I do have the brake linkage click - wish Honda could do something about this...
Other notes:
- One of the best pieces of advice I got off this site was the slow starting suggestion. If your Ody seemd to turn over more than it should during starting, try this: turn the ignition to the last position (RUN) prior the the cranking (START) position, let some of the idiot lights go out, THEN click to the START position. Since we started this routine, it starts almost immediately.
- On buying an extended warranty... Wait until you are at the end of the first year of ownership or just under 12000 miles. Go back to the dealership and offer them COST for the 7/100000/0 ($861). I did this and they took it - no questions.
Enjoy All!

You're right about 70K good for original brakes, however, the rotors have been warped since before 50K but weren't that bad, and only shuddered if you braked hard. Honda said they were fine. Now they are really bad even on normal braking and will have to be replaced. Others say don't bother turning them. My experience is brakes need to be looked at around 40K. With all the disc brake vehicles I've had, only one had rotors that deteriorated this badly, and it was a very heavy duty service vehicle. Looking for Ody owners that have experienced this, and if Honda has acknowledged a problem to them.

Thanks!

When I bought my 04 last weekend the finance guy said that Honda had increased the price of the extended warranties as of May 1st. He showed me a new Honda pricing guide date May 1st 2005 and opened it to page which he said showed his cost. I think it really showed Honda's suggested retail. I don't remember the exact price but it was over $1000 for the 7/100/0 Honda Care Warranty.
One might check their Honda dealer's service department to find out if they use hand torque wrenches rather than air wrenches when rotating or otherwise taking off and putting on wheels.
A new set of tires installed at a tire dealer with poor practices (air wrench tightening) could obviously cause rotor warping. When I bought a new set of tires for a car at an independent tire dealer 2 years ago, I asked about tightening before I made the deal. The dealer took me out to the shop and showed me the torque specification charts and wrenches that his installers use. I could also watch the installation in progress from a safe distance if I desired.
I was actually NOT going to buy it, however, the fun I was having with my power slider made me think it may pay for itself in the long run...
rbell2 - if you still want my servicing dealer, shoot me an email (see my city in my profile) and I'll send you some info...
Enjoy!

I want to hear from other minivan owners, especially from Odyssey owners.
I feel a continuous vibration when riding in the 2nd and 3rd row seats even on smooth asphalt road. I don't feel it in the driver seat nor the passenger seat in front. It's definitely different from feeling the bumps on the road. The seats vibrate. Anyone noticed this? Thanks in advance.
If that is how they normally ride, neither will be in my garage.
The tires are either over inflated or in need of a wheel balance.
I have, literally, ridden in the back of hundreds of Odysseys and Pilots and have never felt this.
Now this was over a year ago, but I worked with Alton Blakley Honda in Kentucky. The van was about a year old with almost 12k miles when I decided to do it. My local dealer was talking $1200 or so at the time. They charged me $875.

let's ask gee about 3rd row comfort...
Steve, Host
1. fits nicely between the cross bars
2. fits odd shaped things better than a hard pack
3. easy to store when not in use
4. sits lower than a hard pack causing less air drag (I think)
5. much MUCH cheaper -$35 a Target with all the ties downs you could need.
Thanks for setting us all straight about Hondas though. Maybe you should try writing a book about how to win friends and influence people while you are sitting there at the computer wasting O2.
Thanks again.
