(That's the easiest way you can determine whether a photo of a Mazda 6 is an international version or a North America version, by that turn-signal marker.)
Mazda6 i 5-door (AT and MT):
i1. Base, no packages.
i2. Security only
i3. Bose Audio only
i4. Luxury only
i5. Luxury and Bose Audio
i6. Security, Bose Audio, and Moonroof
i7. Security, Luxury, Bose Audio, and Moonroof
Mazda6 s 5-door (AT and MT):
s1. Base, no packages
s2. Luxury only
s3. Luxury and Bose Audio
s4. Luxury, Bose Audio, and Moonroof
s5. Bose Audio and Moonroof
s6. Bose Audio, Moonroof, and SAB/SAC
s7. Luxury, Bose Audio, Moonroof, and SAB/SAC
The Security package on the 6i contains ABS, TCS, SAB/SAC, and Alarm.
The Luxury package contains leather, heated seats and mirrors, power seat, and EL gauges.
So, you can look all you want for your particular desired options, but you ain't gonna get it unless it's on the list. Note that if you want an s model with SAB/SAC, you only have two choices. It's a little easier on the i model. I'll probably be looking for s6 (MT).
Don't shoot the messenger.
Personally, I'm happy to see that I can get the moonroof with cloth seats on both the i and the s. IIRC this was a big gripe for people on these boards when the sedan first came out.
Now I just have to decide which engine...
Thanks
Oh, and I buggered-up the ‘s’ model combos in my previous post. Here’s the corrected version. Of the combos on the list below, the first order was limited to the s2 (Bose only) or s7 (fully loaded) config, either auto or manual.
Mazda6 i 5-door (AT and MT):

i7. Security, Luxury, Bose Audio, and Moonroof (fully loaded)

I predict that the 5-door models won't have a rebate for a while.
Model: MAZDA6
Year: 2004
I am going to be purchasing a Mazda 6 5-door as soon as
it is available for order by the dealers in my area. Can you give me an
approximate date, when I should be able to place this order. Thanks
I received this response today.
Hello Jeff,
Thanks for contacting Mazda.
I am happy to hear of your interest in the MAZDA6 5-door. This vehicle
is scheduled to start production in early March 2004. Normally the
vehicles can be ordered several weeks in advance. I am researching
this with the Distribution Department and as soon as I receive a more
specific answer I will e-mail you back and let you know.
Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. It has been my pleasure to
assist you. Please feel free to reply to this message with any further
questions or comments.

I hope this information is usefull to some of you others waiting patiently (or not).
Jeff
I think we've already received info that the first production for the 5-door is end of Jan and deliveries of these will be late Feb or early March.
Dealers already know what they have inbound for the first deliveries.
We sure appreciate your help. And coming from a dealer-basher like me, that's a compliment.
Is this the Volcanic Red we've been hearing about?
Does anybody recognize the city in the background? (hint: the two tallest buildings)
Or is that just a fake backdrop?
I guess this as another lesson in communication.
All MAZDA6 5-Doors come standard with a sport package, which in addition to 17-inch wheels includes aggressive front and rear fascias, integrated fog lights, side sill extensions, rear wing, oval-tipped exhaust outlets and titanium-look power window switch panels. All 5-Doors also have a body-colored sport grille and rear wiper/washer.Standard seat-mounted side-impact airbags protect the chest, neck and head of front occupants. An optionally available side-curtain airbag system adds additional protection from side impacts for both front and rear occupants and deploys from the outer edges of the headliner.

For the 5-door, SAB and SAC are optional, part of the Security Package on the 'i' model and a stand-alone option on the 's' model (subject to allowable option combos).
The Wagon may be different though, I don't know about that. They may have actually made SAB standard on the Wagon with SAC as an option, though this doesn't make much sense and doesn't fit with Mazda's option packaging as far as I've seen.
6 color choices
Blazing Copper Metallic
Glacier Silver Metallic
Lapis Blue Metallic
Onyx Black
Steel Gray Metallic
Volcaic Red (a true hot red like the rx-8 or Atenza 23z )
I wish they would make it standard though. It would make it easier to find one with the options I want.
Not yet, next Monday (Feb 2). Wagon to start two weeks after that.
On second thought maybe I'm only half off-topic, as the same would apply to the hatchbacks.

Oh... and by the way... I kept bugging Mazda via email to see if they would have foldaway mirrors on the 6 and they said no... and wouldn't even tell me how I could order them from Europe if I decided to buy the 6.
Now in their last email, they are maybe thinking about offering them.
This is New York and I don't want my mirrors knocked off when I'm parked in the city!
I see many cars parked in the city with side mirrors broken off!!! People who can, fold their mirrors.
Maybe if more people bug Mazda...
Why should they shortchange us out of features that are on the Europe and Asian market vehicles just so they can save a few bucks because our government has fewer guidelines on cars?
When you say "folding mirrors" are you talking about manually folding ones, or the electrically folders under driven control that they put on Europe and Japan cars.
If you're talking about the former, I thought the car has them.
If you're talking about the later, then Mazda simply doesn't want to put a feature on a car that is costly but that would appeal to only a tiny segment of the market taking their cars to Costco and Barnes and Noble in suburban America. Standard cost/feature tradeoff - don't take it personally. Every other mfg feels the same way, so it's not Mazda ignoring the market.

the m3 has foldaway mirrors standard on them,
and the mirrors are about the same size if the electrical work is the same maybe you can replace the m6 with the m3 mirrors it sound like some you can try or e-mail mazda uk for part info, it is do able

I'm not aware of any other US spec car which has them standard.
It is an option on a few US spec MB products, typically in a $1300 option package.

the Mazda 3 (m3)
It's just not something that is very useful to the vast majority of US drivers. That doesn't mean it isn't useful to you of course, but I don't think we can get on Mazda's case for not offering something for which there is virtually no demand.

I for one like having side mirrors that can be folded or bend out of the way (had the bend-away ones on my '89 323LX and have the folding ones on my '99 ProLX). My wife wish she'd had them on her Saturn when she got too close to the side of her garage when backing out of it. Ouch! That was kind of an expensive repair. She complained about the lack of that feature for a while.
I think they're more common in Europe and Japan because they have less elbow room than we in the US and Canada have, so parking spaces tend to be on the tighter side.
Cars made overseas generally have folding mirrors as they allow the mfr to pack more vehicles in the same amount of space, thus saving on shipping charges. Usually (but not always), once they start being manufactured in NA, mfrs tend to chuck them in favor of cheaper, fixed side mirrors (unless their customers complain enough about the change). The "domestically" made vehicles I usually see with folding side mirrors are larger ones like trucks and SUVs because their mirrors get pretty large. I bet a few don't even fit through a "standard" 8x7ft garage door opening without folding at least one of the side mirrors.
Plus, if you have one of those garages (for those who have one) where they cheaped out on floor beams and placed a metal pole in the middle of the garage (right opposite the side mirrors) to support the floor above, folding the side mirror can make getting through between the car and said pole possible, especially when carrying stuff.
the mazda6 US does not have electrically folding mirrors why i don't know
It does have the option for power remote mirrors, but the "power remote" here refers to remote adjustment, not folding mirrors.

I looked at the M3 parked next to the M6 and I don't think the mirror supports are exactly the same.. so I would have to find a way to order from England or wherever.
Did notice that the rear headroom was compromised. I had to slouch, otherwise my head was plastered on the ceiling (with my neck bent to fit). The wagon, OTOH, I had inches to spare (same as in the 3 hatch). So, you pay the price for the sloping roof line.
