You can get pricing on both the 1999 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra at www.autosite.com.
Happy hunting!
Firestone Wilderness AT. This tire looks like a passenger car tire, not much for the mud. Probably won't use it for the mud much but it would be nice to have the grips in case!
Still not sure what tire they put on the 265 BSWL??
Pretend this is in fine print:
excludes other GM products
Who cares about plastic hinge covers. Trivial compared to other things. If they bother you that much don't buy the truck.
not only do you get more reliable system, but you get more accurate ignition as well as much more powerful spark.
Hey guys and gals how about those of you that have
special ordered a new 1999 chevy post your date
ordered and when received and where you ordered
at(city). This way maybe we can get a better
guesstimate of how long it will take. I'll kick
it off. I ordered my 99 Z71 Sept 10 was told it
will take about 8 weeks. Ordered in Oklahoma City.
In case you can't tell I'm just a bit anxious.

Placed my order on Aug 22 in Burleson TX. It's
an LS Z71. Order was preferenced on Sept 9.

My salesman called me today. He said that a truck
that was preferenced on Sept 11 got a build date
of Oct 19. He said that mine was preferenced on
Sept 15 (GM said Sept 9) and he's hoping to have a
build date for me next Tuesday. He said Tuesday is
the day they update their info.

I've driven a 350 (5.7) in fact, I had it for two years. Unfortunately, I bent a rod on the way back from my parents and drove it into the ground. I think that the 350 is a legendary engine and I cannot choose the 5.3 over it until I see one in person take on a 350. Then, and only then, will I make my decision. . .
It is sad to see the 350 go after what, almost 40 yrs. I wish they just could have put that new technology in a 5.7 displacement and not told anyone about it.
Also, has any one noticed that the 99 4x4 looks a little bit lower. According to the spec found in Carpoint, it is indeed lower by 1 inch. Why?? I thought the goal was to lowering the step-in height while maintaining the ground clearance??
I am not bias to Ford. In fact, had a 76 GMC 4x4 w/ 350 for some 12 yrs.
Just got tired of waiting for the Silverados to compare the Ford with. Also like the looks of the ford and 4 doors, better.
The Ford is a great truck and all brands have improved imensensely (it's called evolution). The engine if real strong a lot of fun to drive. Good cornering too. No regrets and no want of more power. If the 5.3 Chev is this good it will be great too.
2000 miles now, and avg city / hwy MPG has been 14. The Chevy may do a mile or two per gal better, but the Ford is better than the Dodge 318 or 360, according to those I have spoken with.
I'm not brand loyal and I ended up deciding between the Ford Super Duty 250 and the Chevy. I need this truck to haul my slide-in camper.
The main thing I'm bummed about in the comparison category was the lack of 4 doors - a big mistake on GM's part. I tried finding out if the 2000 model year would have 4 doors. I found nobody to say that they would definately have them, including the folks at the toll free- number for Chevy and all dealers.
The folks at Chevy that I've talked to don't seem to know a whole lot about the new trucks. I keep getting different answers on things - like the camper mirror. Some say it's the stainless mounted mirror other say it is an extended mirror. I ordered the standard mirror that comes with the LS package in hope that it is big enough to work with my camper.
Has anyone got good info on when 2500's are going to be showing up? One dealer indicated they expected some in December.
In return, I bought a new 1999 Silverado Ext.
Cab LS with all of the trimmings (more than what
I needed such as buckets, power seats, etc., etc.)
Looks like, for now, it will be hard finding one
on dealerships inventory that is not fully loaded
like mine is. The 5300 V8 is superb, so far.
Longevity remains to be seen. The Vortec 350 V8
was fine with torque once you reached about 45 m.p.h., but doggy off the line. The new 5300 is
much smoother shifting, quieter, and more powerful
over ALL m.p.h. from stop to 65+ mph. I have had
only one problem which was never caught at the
dealership either and that was the horn did not
work. The relay horn switch was faulty and is
now replaced. I just wish the dealership would
have caught it before I took delivery, that is
suppose to be what the pre-inspection is for.
Much roomier interior, although bucket seat console take up too much valuable space, and
much quieter interior. GM, so far, has a winner
on their hands even without the four doors. Three
items worth noting is the lack of a cassette/CD
player combination with bench seats, flimsy
front floor mats (unlike the 1998 heavy duty rubber floor mats), and the thin, not very secure,
door seals (moldings) around the front doors. Also, the plastic tailgate protector from the
factory has to be removed in order to mount a topper on the truck. GM still has some minor design flaws to work out, if they would ever listen to their customers!

I will keep updates posted.
Out of curiousity, what's the GVWR and payload for the 99 2500 Silverado and what is the weight (dry/wet?) of your slide-in camper?
The GVWR is 8600, payload is 3115. The camper I will likely end up with is a Starcraft, Roadstar model slide-in pop-up. The specs say weight is 1344 dry and 1559 full.
I'm using the camper pretty much full-time so I didn't want to cut it close on weight. I'll also be hauling my mountain bike, canoes and associated gear. Hopefully I can make my $ last long enough to travel for a couple of years.
Sure hope I did the right thing by ordering the Chevy - I'm a bit nervous about ordering a new model.
Any ideas on bed liners would be appreciated. I noticed much talk about them in an other area. I'm considering the spray in type.
Sure hope my truck comes in before Christmas. If anyone sees/tests a 2500 I'd sure like to hear about it.
Also, does anyone know about the standard chrome wheels? The aluminum wheels didn't do much for me so I ordered the standard chrome, but still haven't spotted a truck with them.
I bought a 10'11" Bigfoot 3000. After crunching the numbers, I opted for a 1 ton dually (99 F-350SD SC V-10 4x4 Lariat 4.30 Limited Slip with all the options). The camper has a dry weight of 3000 pounds without options. Add the weight of the AC, generator, thermal pane and full tanks, and I'm figuring it will weigh closer to 4,000 pounds. Add gear, passengers and the truck and I'm figuring the total rig will weigh in over 10,000 pounds. If I occassionally tow a boat, that will add about 500+ pounds in tongue weight. The GVWR on the 1 ton is 9,900. It increases to 11,200 when you add the duallys.
Personally, I'm a Ford man, but I wouldn't be concerned about buying the new Chevy. Chevy makes a quality vehicle. They're V-8s tend to be a little stronger than the Ford V-8s and they tend to get a little better mpg. I'm sure you will be happy with the truck. The third door rattle is the biggest complaint I've heard. Hopefully, they remedied that in the new truck.
I had a Line-X bedliner sprayed in yesterday. It looks really sharp. Line-X and Rhino appear to be the two brands with the best reputations. I was in and out of the shop in less than three hours. The cost was $395.
I had the line-x sprayed into my 99 silverado and i love it. the looks are great, and the testure is much better than the rhino liner. go for the black color.
What size body did you get? I have a 99 GMC coming thinking about getting a spray in. How much did it cost? Is the texture smoother looking? Can not wait until I get my truck. Thanks for any info.
short box. $392.00 w/tax. texture has a bumpy look to it, hard to explain but it looks much more uniform and nicer than the rhino.

Where did you order that 99 Silverado 2500? None of the dealers here in Phoenix have any pricing on the 2500 versions... said they might see some in December and you could order then for Feb-Mar delivery...finally also found a dealer with a brochure... the camper mirrors telescope out but it doesn't say if they are manual or electric...they don't look as sturdy as those on the new Fords however (which don't move)...
If you order the 6.0 V8 and the Z82 trailer package you also get a tranmission temperature gauge standard...and an oil cooler as well
...while I like the new Fords one of my disappointments is the L-H instrument clusters which sort of leaves one guessing as what the readings really are...
I tow a 6500 trailer...right now I would go with the 6.0 4x4, LB, 3.73...
I looked hard at the diesels, but the electronics problems reported by many 24V Dodge owners and the cavitation issues related to the Fords sent me back to Chevy...
I found a brochure this week too and finally saw what they were doing with the camper mirror. Just don't know if they are electronically controlled. I assume they are not as they price out as a deduct on the LS package.
Does anyone know if the accessories they show in the brochure are installed at the factory? I'm interested in the running boards.
Here in Idaho we do have the pricing on the 2500 pickup. There are still a few restrictions but I have been assured that the 2500 can be ordered now and will be soon built but we should see some before the first of the year.
I had to do much research but found out the mirror in the catalog is an after market mirror at this point. Forgot to find out if it is electric or manual though. Some RV places to have their own powered extension mirrors similar to this.
The running boards are not factory installed. I hate to say the catalog should clarify that a little more.
The tranny temp gauge only comes in the 2500 series.
People, these pickups are awesome!!!!!! Don't miss the chance to get one. By the way the 4.10 rear end is available in the 1500 series and the flat torque curve the new engine has is really a superb quality. This combination makes it one incredible towing truck.
Any truth to the rumors about the 2000 truck coming out in the spring with a 4th door!
I am hearing the same rumors on the 4th door. It sound as though it will be a definite new item. Also new diesel will be available after first of the year. Also a new big block. Believe it or not it will be an 8000 engine. Thats the 502 truck engine. Not sure when the 2000 trucks will have available orders yet.
Are you hearing if the 4th door will be in the form of a crew cab or extended cab. Thanks for your information. I'm getting conflicting info from dealers here in Texas...
What dealer in Phoenix has brochures on the Silverado? I've been all over the valley and nobody has them.
It will definitely be in the form of 4 doors in the extended cab. We now have the short box crew cab available in the old body style in 2500 and 3500 series. These should change to the new body style next year also.
Keep in mind that (depending on your area)that you can probably only get the 454 in the 3500 series of the short box crew cab.
Davidd, there are all kinds of restrictions and weird things happening until they get things at the factory figured out. I will look that one on the order program tomorrow on the LT sportside. I am curious myself. Another weird one that they just cured recently was that there was a color restriction on the LT's (white for one, believe it or not) and as of this moment you cannot get a two tone LT. Give them time though they will get it all cleared up.
I am a salesman for Chevy and all these things you are bringing up only help me to learn more so keep them coming and if you want email me. Just click on my username above to get it.
Thanks for the usefull info. You seem to be up on things better than most.. Here's another question:
When ordering a 2500, can I get it with a (Z82) trailering package without getting the (Z85) heavy suspension? I'm wanting the smoothest ride posible in a 3/4 ton with a receiver hitch. Could I get it without the heavy suspesion and add the receiver hitch later? Hope this is clear as mud...Thanks
ps. These numbers are from GMC, I assume they are the same for a Chevy.
On the 2500 you can order the Z82 trailer package without having to get the Z85 heavy suspension. This can only be done with the auto trans. The 5 speed is different in that you cannot get the trailer package at the moment. The hitch may have to be dealer installed. On the 1500 series you do have to get the heavy suspension to get the trailer package.
Also Davidd you were right when you said you cannot get an LT sportside pickup at this point. I am sure alot of the things will be cured at a later date.
