In my area (far western suburbs of Chicago), the prices peaked around 2.10 for 87.
This morning prices were down to anywhere from 1.81 to 1.89 (Citgo, Speedway were lowest, Shell highest).
It's been coming down a penny or two a day or every two days for the past month.
This morning I heard on the radio the FTC did find that last summer Marathon-Ashland did artifically lower their supply. Will be interesting to see where that leads.
But the funny thing is that, once again, after the lawmakers in our fine state of IL announce a price investigation, the price suddenly starts to decrease.
What else is there to say... Umm... Oh yeah!
Cook County has higher taxes on gasoline but overall they have cheaper fuel prices than my county - DuPage.
I live in Kansas City Missouri and QuikTrip is now selling 87 octane for $1.51 a gallon. There are reports of gas for $1.49 a gallon elsewhere in the city.
Actually here observation of the $1.29 came during a description of her fillup... she usually stops at a certain station... and she paid $1.49... a mile down the road she saw $1.39, and a couple of miles past that she ran into the $1.29
Here in State College, I'm seeing $1.45 at the moment...
don't some of the gas stations just do like the one in NY did and lower their prices to $0.99/gal for 87 grade. make everyone form really big lines to get their lovely fuel , but in the meantime raise the prices of the stuff inside to station to make the profit off of everybody that sits in line for 2-3hrs at a time.
Hey, he sold out of the 87 grade and made a bundle on hotdogs.... LOL
You type in your ZIP code and you can see a list of stations in your area with the current prices if someone has updated them. You can even become a price spotter if you drive by the same stations all the time.
Local Amoco dropped from 1.84 this morning to 1.79 this evening.
I got letters from the Guv of IL, the FTC, and my congresspeople (I wrote to all of them) and they said last month they were investigating... I guess it's true.
I guess the government helps out once in a while too....
I don't even know where I was. All I know it was Will County IL.
Prices ranged from 1.68 at Speedway, 1.71 at Amoco and 1.79 at Shell. Filled up at the Amoco. I'll probably keep going back there since it's only 4 miles away (and two miles further than my Food Store).
1.79 at Amoco and Shell in my neighborhood in DuPage County, but I forsee that changing this evening when I go home... heh.
87 octane - $1.34/gal. (This is at the cheaper gas station - used to be Starvin' Marvins but someone bought them out - think the name may be Minute Stop.)
I'm back and forth between Mississippi and Louisiana so will check LA gas prices the next time I'm there.
Today it was $1.46 a gallon for 87 octane at my local Chevron station. Most other gas stations such as Speedway, Super America and Shell have about the same prices around here.
ECHO is the excellent Toyota response to high gas prices. Comfortable seating, good performance while delivering excellent fuel economy. Meanwhile, gasoline here is $1.409 for Sinclair 85 octane, $1.509 for 88 octane and $1.609 for 91 octane "premium". (High altitude gasoline is lower octane than elsewhere in the USA).
I just thought of a question. Does anyone know why gas is priced at so many cents and then 9/10ths of another cents? Why another 9/10ths? Why not make it an even cent?
Since I wasn't a business major, I have no clue. WHY do the stores do the SAME thing? It NEVER made ANY sense to me. It's just a psychological thing as far as I can see.
Costco is $1.979 for premium self-serve. Most stations range between $2.029-2.099.
Aloha Petroleum in my neighborhood beats them at $1.959 - regular is $1.799; plus is $1.859. Once a week, for cash buyers, it's another $0.05/gallon off.
Tesoro has a weekly "mystery station" rotation with a "one price, any grade" promotion. Two weeks ago, $1.799 in my area - Aloha "matched" those prices. Last week, it was $1.839. This week - haven't found it yet.
Either there have been gas price wars, or the stations are giving people a 'break' for the higher prices this week reserved for tourists. (Monticello Indiana is the 'home' of Indiana Beach.)
I guess we can't get a break on anything here. I saw on the news that prices a re falling radidly. Your posts confirm this. I wonder if we will see a drop in prices.
Mike, on your way to work, get off at Palomar Airport Rd., go right @2 blocks. For the mileage you drive to work, it would be worth it to become a member for $25.00. I got it in Carlsbad last week for:
I do have a membership but that Costco is WAY out of my way and the one near us doesn't have gas. I also am wary of what brand of gas they use. I don't want to mess up the injection on my LS. Don't you also have to use a credit card there?
Yes you have to use a ATM/Credit card. So far, no pinging with the 87 gas, but I use Valvoline SynPower fuel injector cleaner every 3k also. For me filling up 16 gal/wk. saves $4.00 tank, that's $16.00 more I can spend on A/C in the house. Man It's muggy here this year, could be a long summer....GOOD LUCK!
