I bought 08 Pilot EX-L w/ Nav with the price of 29,252k with finance last weekend. If I went with finance, it was only 28,252k. I bought it at Renton Honda in Washington.
  • kucha12kucha12 Member Posts: 2
Is this price OTD price? And is Pilot you bought 2WD or AWD?
    Thanks.
  • tammylee1tammylee1 Member Posts: 4
    It is 08 EX-L with Navigation AWD. Its invoice = $32,270 + $635(destination charged) = $32905
I had $3700 back of invoice with finance which is $29,205
I could get $4700 back of invoice if no finance

What was MSRP and invoice for your '09 Pilot?
  • lufacalufaca Member Posts: 31
I think you should go for about 30K OTD. I live in So cal and this was the offer they gave me but I refused it. I do not want to be stuck with an older model and paying that price. I am holding until the fever for the new model dies. I do not think they have a lot bargain power with the gas prices at the current levels ($4.00 +/ gal). My advise hold on.
  • jayemgeejayemgee Member Posts: 9
    Lufaca,

Just for clarification, you were offered 30K on a 2009 Pilot? If so, what type?

    Dear Members,

I am considering '09 Pilot EX-L 2WD but getting several quotes for '08 EX-L (no RES/NAV) from dealers as well. The lowest otd price is $26,451 ($24,116 + tax etc) and it seems pretty good deal to me. Can anyone please tell me if it is good deal? If I would like to set the target price to negotiate, how much would it be reasonable? I live in Northern Virginia and VA tax will be applied. Thank you in advance. :)
  • jefflitzjefflitz Member Posts: 5
I'd shopped around a bit a while back and decided to wait to see what would happen with pricing once the 09s came out. My local dealer has 5 or 6 VP 4WDs in stock, which is higher than normal, and they've been sitting there for weeks as best I can tell. Anyone know what kind of sales price I should be looking for right now? Can I still get the 2.9% financing also? Thanks.
  • mc4nammc4nam Member Posts: 60
You should be able to get $3500 under Invoice if you use your OWN FINANCING. $2500 under Invoice if you are approved and use the 2.9%
  • tammylee1tammylee1 Member Posts: 4
currently 08 pilot, you should get at least $4,700 below invoice without finance, or $3,700 below invoice with finance.

I bought 08 pilot last weekend with $3,700 under invoice with finance.

This week might be slightly more under since you don't have more color or option to select.
  • mc4nammc4nam Member Posts: 60
Tammy Lee, (or anyone else that has any ideas.)

What part of the country are you in? I am going to try to bargain this weekend on a 08 billet silver SE in the Dallas, TX area.

There are a lot of this Silver SE's in the Dallas area. The Dealership I am going to has 8 of the silver SE's in stock.

Invoice is $28,619 without destination charge. What bottom line price should I settle for? Should I wait until end of month or does that matter on the 08's? The best e-mailed offer I got was $25,110. (dest. charge not included.)

Thanks in advance for replies and suggestions.

mc4nam: I am in Renton Washington. I got couple dealers around here willing to give $4700 below invoice without finance or $3700 if you choose their finance. Every single dealer wants to move 08 pilot as soon as possible so they can have room for 09. I know if I could wait until the end of this month, I would get better deal. However, there was only one red cherry pearl with 4WD XE-L with Nav avaliable so we decided to buy it.
    good luck.

Thanks! I am pre-approved through a local credit union for 4.85% for up to 60 mos. So this versus the $1000 more for using 2.9% is better for me by a couple of bucks a month. With the Boch Honda advertising $23,888 for the SE, which is $4722 back of Invoice, That is the highest I will even consider paying even though it is a different part of the country, I am pretty sure all of these US Honda Dealers are on the same playing field. I will post my results.

    Thanks MC
  • jefflitzjefflitz Member Posts: 5
I thought the dealer incentive was still $1000 less on the VPs, no? Can anyone confirm that?

If that's the case, I would imagine that mean my target would be around $3700 under invoice since the extra thousand is not available on the VPs.
  • robocop1robocop1 Member Posts: 7
I am considering a 2WD EXL (no res/nav) 2009 Pilot as well. Invoice is 31,863 and then need to add $635 for Destination Charge. What was the best offer you received for 09 pilot 2wd EXL w/wo Dest charge?

Anyone have opinions on what price we should be trying for?/ Right at invoice?

    THanks
  • ryan14ryan14 Member Posts: 15
    mc4nam,
I am in S.Ca, got a 2008 SE silver few days ago, the quote was 23,500 finance with my own or 24,500 2.9% with Honda. I am qualified with 5.6% so went with 2.9% save me few bucks/month
  • drfr3ddrfr3d Member Posts: 2
The lowest offer I have received is $31,715 wo/ freight. It is considerable but '08 price is too good to ignore. I probably go for 08 EX-L 2wd. :(
  • rickseericksee Member Posts: 6
Been wanting to replace wife's 12 year old Explorer for years. With proceeds from pending house sale, can finally do it. Am excited about price of 08 Models, but could probably wait a few months as the 09 excitement fades. Before I decide that, wanted to identify "great new features" of the 09's that 08's don't have.

Is there a forum or site that highlights the big ones?

Basically looking at 4/AWD EX-L with res.

Thanks in advance! Love this site. Power to the buyer.

We have a whole group of discussions about the Honda Pilot, here. Including a discussion just for the 2009 Pilot...

If you are familiar with the current model, that discussion probably covers a lot of the differences.

If you really want a great deal on an '08 model, better hurry... stocks are dwindling fast..

This is No.1 Honda volume sale which is just guideline for how low Honda dealer can go... if you really lease from them make sure the floor manager doesn't add the dest chg again. Acqu fee 595 is standard.

    3 available 08 SE 4x4
    $23,888 or 3Yr lease 238/mo, 1000 down

    3 available 09 EX 4x4
    $28,988 or 3Yr lease 398/mo, 1000 down

    Ryan,

I had no luck today at a large dealership in The Dallas area today. I even brought in the add from boch honda showing the $23888 add price for a 4x4. I was asking them to match this price on a 2x2? The 2x2 cost them $1400 less?

They would only go with $25110 and would not budge on $1500 worth of adds. It was pretty unbelievable considering our Honda Element came from them and we have done all of the service there?

The craziest thing is The GM came out and said "We can't match that price because there are different incentives in different parts of the country for Honda?" Huh?

I am going to try another dealer on Monday that has even more SE's in stock.

Should I wait until the end of the month? End of this month is also end of quarter?

I have a hard time paying more than an advertised price of another Honda dealer.

    mc4nam,
I didn't go to the dealer to make a deal, sent them (2 my local dealers) email to ask for a quote. They both gave prety much about the same, $23,500 and $23,595, they both included des. charge and asked for $1,000 if I financing with HD. I called my bank and got a rate turns out finance with HD better, saved me few bucks and I don't have to do all the paper works.

The dealer where I got my Pilot they was selling good. I got there on friday they had like 4 EX-L, 3 SE, 2 EX, and few VP. I went there because I got a quote before on EX-2WD for $21,850 (included des. charge), of course $1,000 more if finance with them, but didn't have the color ny wife wanted, waited for two days. Mean while asked for another quote for SE 2WD because the kids wanted DVD and I like the sun roof :) . Back on Monday and only 4 Pilot left in all models

I would recommend you ask for the quote first, they responded me within 30 min, that will save you time and headache. Make sure everything is clear like include de. charge, rate....Even though agreed on the price, it still took me more than two hours because they tried to sell me the stuffs and I firmly said NO. From my experiences, the quote they give over internet is likely the final price. I tried to to negociate through email but got no luck. However, compared it was about other paid, so that is good because they don't want no game either do I. Good luck hunting

Just picked up my 08 Pilot EX-L probably the last one in NJ with leader interior, moon roof, running boards, heated seats, etc. etc. List price $34,680.00 got it for $27,470.00, I sure I could of gotten it for less, but didn't want to settle for another grey color (this one is Bali Blue) there was another couple interested in the same car.
Got rid of a Jeep Cherokee...What a difference! The Pilot seems to have twice the room, a little noisy when braking, but so far so good.
  • zorcereszorceres Member Posts: 23
I posted this somewhere else not knowing there was a specific thread for it... still here it goes again:

We got our 2009 Pilot 4WD Touring with NAV and RES for $38,000 + taxes and fees (which were around $2,200 since we had a 3K trade-in). This price also included chrome side steps and crossbars. We are in MA and finalized the deal on 6/6/08. We also got 4.5% with them (have gotten 4.9 via our credit union so they gave us a slightly better deal to get our business). They are not doing the 2.9% with the 2009 :( We negotiated the trade-in after having a final price on the new one. The MSRP is about 42K with the options.

This is just my 2 cents, but I love my 2009 Pilot. We researched (test drove too) all SUVs in the market that have a 3rd row and the 2009 Pilot was the one with more space between seats and in the "trunk" when the 3rd row is up. Plus not so bad on mileage (yes, they can always do better and I wished they had a hybrid option too). Also, I like that it doesn't have huge blind spots when backing up like, for example, CRX-9 does. I do love the look of it and the fact that is "square" ( I don't like the sporty looking ones as much, I like the more truck looking ones.... beauty is in the eye of the beholder). We feel that considering this is a new year vehicle (not a 2008 that are been rolled out) the price was right. We could have gotten the 2008 Pilot or Highlander (the ones that made our short list) for less, 30K and 34K respectively, but didn't mind (and could afford) to get this one, fully loaded (and I mean has everything we were looking for and more!) for what we think is a good price at this point in time. We know that it might be cheaper 3 months down the road but we really needed to update our car ASAP. We do plan to have it for 10 years (like we did our previous one) :)

Good luck to all of you on your car buying experience...I hope you get great deals or at least feel like you did when you drive the car out

Can you get a drive out cost? What is your tax?

    We just purchased a 2009 Pilot EX-L 2WD for $33,600 drive out.

Also, what is the 4WD MSRP and Invoice?
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
7000 off a Honda Pilot is no big digs. The Pilot has always sold for 7000-7500+ off msrp on average for the last 4 or so years in July. The fact we may be a month or so ahead is of no consequence. Gas is 4 now and the prices and sales of these things are in the tank.

The Pilot and Ridgeline always had a trade in value of 10k or more off msrp the first 12 months or so of ownership. Now its probably like 13k or more. 8k off sticker with 3.9 or 1.9 for 36 months or just more cash would be an ok deal. You want much more off than 7000.

If you have to cough up more dough because you really need a Pilot and only one dealer has your color and specs within 200 mi, OK but don't go buying a Pilot because of a big 7000 off because thats been about an average deal for years about this time.

    Good luck
    --jjf

There are a few things wrong with that story:

Honda has begun offering $7,000 cash back on 2008 models of its largest SUV, the Pilot. That is the most money it has ever offered buyers on a vehicle, said Michelle Krebs, senior industry editor for Edmunds.com.

Honda has never offered customer cash back, never have and probably never will. They may do dealer incentives but no "rebates" to the customer. So that part is wrong for sure.

I think they are talking about the difference between what you can get a Pilot for and MSRP, not $7,000 under invoice. If you look at the difference between invoice and MSRP on an EX-L w/NAV 4wd is is nearly $3,500 and then add in the $3,500 incentive and you get nearly $7k off of MSRP. Since most dealers will also deal into the hold back a little to move a Pilot, $7k off of MSRP on some models is possible.

They also quote someone from Edmunds, yet Edmunds incentives on the Pilot show $2,500 or $3,500 for all but the VP no matter which ZIP code I use.

Anything is possible, but I would say it is very likely the CNN story is just plain wrong.

I just received an internet price for a 2008 Honda Pilot AWD VP for $23,724 with includes the 2.9 financing for 60 months. Also, I received a 2008 Honda AWD EX price for $24,691 without special Honda financing. Both prices include the destination charge.

First, how are those offers? Second, is there much difference in the VP versus the EX?

09 Pilot 2WD EXL - 33.6K OTD - what was the selling price before Tax (or what %tax or amount did you pay and other fees, Dest charge included, -breakdown, etc.). and I assume this is the 2WD EXL without DVD?

2009 Honda Pilot Mocha Metallic EX-L 2WD [without RES (DVD), side steps, or grille]

Base Price: 31179.36 (Destination $635 included)
    Admin Fees: 498.00
    $31179.36 + 498 = 31,677.36

Sales Tax (Gwinnett County GA) 6%: 1900.64
    Title: 19.00
    GA Warranty Protection Act: 3.00

    Total - 33,600.00

FYI. The finance dept. tried to tack on some extended warranty ($1800) without even asking us. We did not want it since Geico has the same warranty ($250).
The finance dept. initially gave us a 5.99% APR. It ended up to be 5.49% since we put down a chunk of dinero. They failed to know that. They had to check their books to verify.

I have an offer from a local dealership here in Indy for an 09 pilot ex-l with res for 700 over the invoice, which last I checked was a shade under 33k. They didnt have the color i want (sterling grey/black) but another dealership will have it later next week or early the week after and I'll probably be able to get it for no more than 500 over invoice. Has anyone else out there been offered a similar deal? I contacted all my local honda dealers and all seemed ready to deal (prob no surprise given the gas proces).

I have been emailing several Honda dealerships throughout Houston, TX. Just 2 days ago, I received an email from John Eagle Honda for a new Pilot 2009 with DVD for $29,062 + TTL. Several hours later, I received an email from the same dealer - for the same car - for $27,125! I immediately made an appointment to view the Pilot.

Unfornately, when I got there, the salesman said that his assistant had made an error and the real price is $35,830. Wow, I somehow knew it was too good to be true. But I told him that I received 2 quotes back to back- that I didn't appreciate the dealership luring me onto the lot. He quickly replied that it was not how he does business and said that he can sell at $34,999 for a New Pilot 09 with DVD. It is $200 below MSRP of $35,195.

But he's tacking on about $1800 of options that I do not want.

Is there anyway I can make him honor that email price? Or give me a better deal than 34,999+options+TTL? What shoud I do?

So there is nothing I can do legally to make them honor the quote? Because I really want it for the price they quoted me $27,125.00. But I don't want them to kick me off the lot.

I haven't tried using the "wrong" emails to deal with other dealerships. I think other dealerships would point out the discrepancy. Or laugh in my face like the salesman of my first car buying experience. Anyone think other dealerships would accept this $27,125 quote as legit and deal with me?
  • renew2renew2 Member Posts: 23
Go to Baytown Honda... all of the other dealers in Houston are smoking the good stuff thinking they will get very close to Invoice... most dealers told me NO ONE will come off more than few hundred dollars off MSRP... Baytown comes through selling car for much better price... tell em to pound sand and call them next time b4 you make the trip.
  • pablo9pablo9 Member Posts: 29
The Houston dealers are a tight group and know they're being shopped when emailed. I just bought an 08 Pilot a month ago and realized quickly they didn't respond well to bringing up I can go down the road...I had the most leverage with the 08 as an outgoing model. Also, I felt they were playing pretty heavy hardball knowing the current onslaught of people coming in for all the 4 bangers for gas mileage...their volumes are high right now in other words.

Baytown Honda is a good suggestion. I have heard Gunn Honda in San Antonio does pretty well but have not gone there myself. Reach outside of Houston and you'll probably get more leverage.

    Good luck.

A dopey secretary or internet kid breaks a nail and types 24385 instead of 34385 or something in an email of all things. C'mon. Better yet, 4,385. Go to the attorney general and collect your car for 4000 dollars. Call Bill Clinton (nope, he's been disbarred) call Monica Lewinsky?.. Hillary? No. Joe Peschi and Dinero from "Casino" or "Goodfellas". Their offer they can't refuse (or refute)

Its common for dealers to work the few new models arriving for a few weeks or months at msrp to the just gotta have the latest crowd. One would think this would be a shorter period this year than most for the pilot. Given it may be hard to trade in a 08 pilot 12 months from now for 12000 off msrp, I really wouldn't be jumping at the 09 for less than 5000-6000 off.

    Good luck

I'm with kyfdx... go to another dealer since they gave you that price just to get you there. It happened to us too. We got a "quote" for 36500 for the touring only to get to the dealer to find out it was too good to be true. First, they said that the person we were dealing with had a family emergency and have to leave and then we literally bumped into him! Then a sales manager said that that was an impossible price so we stood up to leave and he tried to hold us hostages (and I am not kidding, they wouldn't let us out of his office) until he could double check that he couldn't make that price. We had to push him out of the way!!! Ridiculous!! Needless to say we will never in a million years will ever go there again and called Honda to complain about their tactics. In "revenge" we stopped every single person we could and told them about the previous dealer we went (were we finally ended buying the car) that had better prices and treat their customers like family... a few people actually left :P (to hopefully buy someplace else). We didn't hide our anger for being duped either...

    Hello rbiesel,

Contact Bob Schlabach at Huggins Honda In North Richland Hills. Tell him MC from Colony sent you. I drove 30 miles to buy from this guy. We truly closed the deal via the internet. I e-mailed him detailed pictures of my trade and he gave me a trade price that did not change when I got there. I did send him very detailed photos though, about 20 of them. I was a uch smoother and honest internet purchasing experience.

I bought a 2008 SE 2wd from him. There are tons of those available in DFW. Not quite as many VP's but Bob is looking to get rid of the 2008 Pilots.

Please let me know what happens. I think he will work hard to get your business.
(reply to this with your e-mail and I we can talk more about it.)
