Dodge's pricing application on their web site does the same thing (i.e., if you select 4 wheel it automatically gives you the 3.92 axle and limited slip).
Made me decide to wait, too.
4x4
10x31 tires
5sp. manual trans.
cruise control
Heavy duty pkg.
Those are the ones that I remember.
Now I as I understand it if you change anyone of the above you can get the 3.55.
For some reason most dealers are not aware of this restriction. Mine only found out after my order was being bypassed by other order's after mine. So he had to call manufacture. I don't know why for the restriction either.
What you get is a truck avg. mpg. at 16. I have 2500 miles on my truck now. Oh yea, she comes off the line pretty strong to.
Hard to say how long the restriction will last. Still not a bad truck in my opinion.
Jim
Rlang1....I think a Quad Dakota would make an excellent tow rig, you can go with a 5 speed if you prefer, I beleive they told me for some reason which I can't fathom to put it up into 3rd or 5th with the transfer case in N and tow away.....or park for an auto.....I've been seriously considering a forest green sport 4x4 quad thats sitting about 10 feet in front of my desk here for a personal driver....lol

Do you have an E-Mail address for Dodge that
I can write someone and ask why the Ram was down rated between 1999 and 2000. I have a 1999 brochure, and last year the exact same truck as mine was rated at 13,700 towing and Y2K Ram is only rated 10,000 towing.............Bill
Apparently this truck was delivered to the customer without an option (trip computer, etc.) that the customer had ordered. The dealer thought that it could be added in the dealer's shop but found out the add-on would have cost far more to install than the factory installed option and they ordered the customer a new truck instead. Meanwhile the customer put 2500 miles on the truck that is now for sale. With the 2001 models and the Cummins upgrade coming soon it seems like I should get a good deal on this 2000. In this area a 4x2 with Cummins is a rare bird, nearly everyone is 4x4, and they are going to have a tough time selling this truck in snowy New England at this time of year. I'm in no rush to replace my '95 Ford that is being very kind to me, so I can afford to wait for some things that this truck lacks, such as a 6 speed, but if the dealer makes me an offer I can't refuse might go with it as long as it has the intercooled Cummins.
Cummins Rams have been Intercooled for a very long time, this is nothing new to the Ram and is a standard with this year engine. The somewhat newer edition to the engine is the 24V configuration. Some standard features with the $4000+ Cummins option are: Heavy Duty cooling, Dana 80 rear, Dana 60 front, dual batteries, 136 amp Alt. just to name a few. If you go with the Automatic you will lose 40 ft. lbs. of torque (420 vs.460).
they have a forum area that even non-members can access, I got some pretty good tips for my Y2K Ram..............Bill

good luck,
robert
I understand that the 2001 Cummins will put out 505 ft.lbs. w/6spd. and Mopar sells an ECM upgrade for the current 24V Rams that will also put out 505 ft. lbs. 5,6spd only, I guess the Automatic will not handle the Torque.
Robert,
Thanks for the address I will let you know if I can ge some answers, any new Casino boats on the Gulf Coast lately? they pop up like flies down there.......Bill
If I am not mistaken this is your Question and Answer forum, as I see it back on 28 Dec 98 you came out of the gates Blazzin. I have asked for your expert Fleet Truck Sales guidance on the same issue far too much, if you are going to be selective on the questions you answer, and just blow me off tell me up front. I do not expect service like this from a Ram Truck dealer, I guess I will just contact my dealership to answer my question. Please Do not feel you need to respond to this Post, I just hope you do not do your customers like this, and I hope I never have to take my $35,000 Ram in for repair at your Facility..................Bill
Thanks for the E-Mail link, I sent an E-Mail to the Customer Relations Department. What a great site for consumer information and the people who are in charge..............Bill
Why don't Dodge offer a Automatic Trans. for the 2.5 L 4-cylinder Dakota? In the Philadelphia area that is what Ford and Chevy use as their bread and butter vechicles. What's up?
If you have Dodge questions you need researched, and answered punctually go to the Dodge Ram II Forum, the Community Leader is Kcram (KC Jackson).
Nothing against Trex but the last question he answered was on 17 December, which was my question. Trex if you are on leave or going away from your computer for (2) weeks let people know, that is not to much to ask...........Bill

1. Time from order to delivery
2. A "ticking" sound in some 4.7's
3. A lack of insulation causing condensation resulting in "foaming" when removing the oil cap.
In light of #1, would it be reasonable to wait to 6/00 and order an '01 anticipating #2 and #3 will be addressed by then?
As far as slow order to delivery time, I can only say that yes at first they were slow getting out the gate, as all Brand New models are, however once they started coming they came fast!! We have 8 or 9 here now and more on the way......What are you looking for?? Lol
I hope this helps.......................T REX
alt.autos.dodge.trucks. ??
Is this on the internet somwhere ie 'http://"
Thanks.
There are two ways to access it. First, you can use a program called a news reader, which downloads the messages and allows you to post messages.
But if you're a novice, it's probably easier just to go to deja.com. This is a convetional web site that gets you into a bunch of news groups, incluinding the one for Dodge Trucks.
The specific address is:
http://www.deja.com/group/alt.autos.dodge.trucks.
Once there do a search and you'll find the posts I was talking about.
thanks in advance,
robert
The consensus seems to be it is "normal", i.e., it doesn't reflect some kind of problem, but it is still annoying.
So, for all of you that have sent me questions in the past, I hope I have answered them or helped you out in any way I could.
Thanks again..................T REX

As for the waiting room stories...what do you expect. You are in a waiting room of people getting their vehicle fixed. All the people that have good luck with the vehicles are not sitting in the waiting room telling their stories of no problems. Slanted viewpoints at best.
Not saying some dealerships aren't bad, just saying most aren't so bad.

The TRAC-LOC differential is simply the Dodge's 'brand name' for a LSD. (Limited Slip Differential) Operation is virtually identical to GM's 'Positraction' unit. (They may even be built by the same outfit...Dana?)
Neither of these is a LOCKING differential. They use 'clutch packs' within the differential assembly to assist in distributing the torque between the wheels. I am not aware of a LSD being available on the FRONT of any 4x4 vehicle.
If you desire LOCKING differential(s) it may not be available from the factory but there are very good 'aftermarket' units that can be installed by any competent mechanic.
In any case... if you intend to plow snow make SURE you get the factory 'prep' for this capability. Also be aware of any warantee implications that plowing snow may have on your new truck.
