I was told the same thing (4 wheel drive comes with 3.92 and limited slip).

Dodge's pricing application on their web site does the same thing (i.e., if you select 4 wheel it automatically gives you the 3.92 axle and limited slip).

Made me decide to wait, too.
  • jwm2jwm2 Member Posts: 43
I ordered just what are talking about and had to go with the 3.92 just like you say. As I understand it here are the items that defaults your order to the 3.92.
    4x4
    10x31 tires
    5sp. manual trans.
    cruise control
    Heavy duty pkg.
Those are the ones that I remember.
Now I as I understand it if you change anyone of the above you can get the 3.55.
For some reason most dealers are not aware of this restriction. Mine only found out after my order was being bypassed by other order's after mine. So he had to call manufacture. I don't know why for the restriction either.
What you get is a truck avg. mpg. at 16. I have 2500 miles on my truck now. Oh yea, she comes off the line pretty strong to.
Hard to say how long the restriction will last. Still not a bad truck in my opinion.

Alas I am at a loss as to your previous question, I've asked my tech's and they have no clue either and without having a 2000 truck ratings book I can't answer this one....Sorry :(

Rlang1....I think a Quad Dakota would make an excellent tow rig, you can go with a 5 speed if you prefer, I beleive they told me for some reason which I can't fathom to put it up into 3rd or 5th with the transfer case in N and tow away.....or park for an auto.....I've been seriously considering a forest green sport 4x4 quad thats sitting about 10 feet in front of my desk here for a personal driver....lol

    T rex,
Do you have an E-Mail address for Dodge that
I can write someone and ask why the Ram was down rated between 1999 and 2000. I have a 1999 brochure, and last year the exact same truck as mine was rated at 13,700 towing and Y2K Ram is only rated 10,000 towing.............Bill

Our local DC dealer has a 2x4 2000 quad cab 2500, Cummins, LB, auto trans, and many options returned after 2500miles. I understand that intercooling of the Cummins was introduced midway in the 2000 model year. This truck was originally delivered in Aug of 99. What is the easiest way for me to tell whether this engine has the intercooler? Do I look for coolant hoses to something downstream from the air filter box?

Apparently this truck was delivered to the customer without an option (trip computer, etc.) that the customer had ordered. The dealer thought that it could be added in the dealer's shop but found out the add-on would have cost far more to install than the factory installed option and they ordered the customer a new truck instead. Meanwhile the customer put 2500 miles on the truck that is now for sale. With the 2001 models and the Cummins upgrade coming soon it seems like I should get a good deal on this 2000. In this area a 4x2 with Cummins is a rare bird, nearly everyone is 4x4, and they are going to have a tough time selling this truck in snowy New England at this time of year. I'm in no rush to replace my '95 Ford that is being very kind to me, so I can afford to wait for some things that this truck lacks, such as a 6 speed, but if the dealer makes me an offer I can't refuse might go with it as long as it has the intercooled Cummins.
  • bmckenziebmckenzie Member Posts: 118
    Stabbur,
Cummins Rams have been Intercooled for a very long time, this is nothing new to the Ram and is a standard with this year engine. The somewhat newer edition to the engine is the 24V configuration. Some standard features with the $4000+ Cummins option are: Heavy Duty cooling, Dana 80 rear, Dana 60 front, dual batteries, 136 amp Alt. just to name a few. If you go with the Automatic you will lose 40 ft. lbs. of torque (420 vs.460).

If you want to get some good gouge about Cummins Rams go to: http://www.turbodieselregister.com
they have a forum area that even non-members can access, I got some pretty good tips for my Y2K Ram..............Bill

Thanks for the help. I was thrown off by the statement in the 2000 Ram brochure that said "Strong engines including an optional Magnum V10 gas engine and an optional all-new high-output Cummins Intercooled Turbo Diesel (late availability)". I took this to mean that the intercooler was new late in 2000, but instead Dodge meant that the new high output intercooled Cummins turbo engine would be available late in the 2000 model year as an option to the current turbo intercooled Cummins. Looks like the new engine will instead be available in the 2001 model year that begins in Feb. Thanks again.

    O. Ross,
I understand that the 2001 Cummins will put out 505 ft.lbs. w/6spd. and Mopar sells an ECM upgrade for the current 24V Rams that will also put out 505 ft. lbs. 5,6spd only, I guess the Automatic will not handle the Torque.
    Robert,

    T rex,
If I am not mistaken this is your Question and Answer forum, as I see it back on 28 Dec 98 you came out of the gates Blazzin. I have asked for your expert Fleet Truck Sales guidance on the same issue far too much, if you are going to be selective on the questions you answer, and just blow me off tell me up front. I do not expect service like this from a Ram Truck dealer, I guess I will just contact my dealership to answer my question. Please Do not feel you need to respond to this Post, I just hope you do not do your customers like this, and I hope I never have to take my $35,000 Ram in for repair at your Facility..................Bill

I went to my local dealer today to talk about ordering a Dakota Quad Cab and was told that he could no longer order the 2000s. He said he won't be able to order again until they get the pricing info from Dodge on the 2001s. Any ideas why Dodge is already moving on to the 2001s? It seems there must be something they are eager to change or add to the trucks. ????????

    Hey Mr. Dodge Salesman:

Why don't Dodge offer a Automatic Trans. for the 2.5 L 4-cylinder Dakota? In the Philadelphia area that is what Ford and Chevy use as their bread and butter vechicles. What's up?

    To all,
If you have Dodge questions you need researched, and answered punctually go to the Dodge Ram II Forum, the Community Leader is Kcram (KC Jackson).
Nothing against Trex but the last question he answered was on 17 December, which was my question. Trex if you are on leave or going away from your computer for (2) weeks let people know, that is not to much to ask...........Bill

Any one buy new injectors for their Dodge Diesel lately? How much did they cost?
  • trex99trex99 Member Posts: 61
Jorgensen, The best explanation I can get out of anybody is a number of things really, for one the fuel economy goes down significantly, look at the neon, almost 10 mpg difference, also the power goes down, auto's tend to dog more, also Dakota's with the 2.5 are our "base" truck, in fact we don't even order them for our store because the requests for them are so few and far between that we would'nt sell them very often, when I first started here we had 2 of them for about 5 months, all we order now are the sport package 6 cylinders.

jonesn41, I inquired about injector prices and I would need to know what year your truck is, which engine you have 24 valve or 12, also would need to know the transmission auto/manual......I did find out the 2000 24 Valve engine with automatic transmission the injectors list on the parts computer for $105 apiece!!!

To bmckenzie, Im sorry that I didnt inform you that I would be gone for a while for the holidays, I went out of town. In the future Ill send you an Email and let you know, I will however be here and continue to do my VERY BEST to find answers to your question as A FAST AS I CAN!!!! As a matter of fact I returned to find the 2000 Towing guide for all Dodge trucks sitting on my desk, so if you are still interested leave me a message. Again I apologize for inconveniencing YOU!!!

There appear to be 3 issues within the various Dakota Quad threads that disturb me:
    1. Time from order to delivery
    2. A "ticking" sound in some 4.7's
    3. A lack of insulation causing condensation resulting in "foaming" when removing the oil cap.

In light of #1, would it be reasonable to wait to 6/00 and order an '01 anticipating #2 and #3 will be addressed by then?
  • trex99trex99 Member Posts: 61
Thanks for the question, I have consulted with our head tech about your concerns and here's what we found.....We went to the MDS computer which is linked to Detroit and is THE source for recall and TSB (technical service bulletins) for #2 & #3 and there is no info on either, apparently there hasn't been any problems with either of the items that you are describing, nor had he or any other techs heard of any.....I also asked about the possibility of these problems on the Grand Cherokee with the same engine.....same answer.
As far as slow order to delivery time, I can only say that yes at first they were slow getting out the gate, as all Brand New models are, however once they started coming they came fast!! We have 8 or 9 here now and more on the way......What are you looking for?? Lol >:)
    I hope this helps.......................T REX

Trex, go to alt.autos.dodge.trucks. There are numerous reports of people having both problems with the 4.7 (ticking and foam in the filler spout).
  • bpeeblesbpeebles Member Posts: 4,085
Could you elaberate on how to access
    alt.autos.dodge.trucks. ??

Is this on the internet somwhere ie 'http://"

    Thanks.
  • lmeyer1lmeyer1 Member Posts: 215
Sorry about that. It's a News Group-- not a conventional web site.

There are two ways to access it. First, you can use a program called a news reader, which downloads the messages and allows you to post messages.

But if you're a novice, it's probably easier just to go to deja.com. This is a convetional web site that gets you into a bunch of news groups, incluinding the one for Dodge Trucks.

    The specific address is:

    http://www.deja.com/group/alt.autos.dodge.trucks.

Once there do a search and you'll find the posts I was talking about.

i have heard that the clicking could be the fuel vapor purge solinoid on the firewall. could you ask around, my mech says he cant even hear it.

  • lmeyer1lmeyer1 Member Posts: 215
Henne, that's what some of the folks at alt.autos.dodge.trucks have been saying too.

The consensus seems to be it is "normal", i.e., it doesn't reflect some kind of problem, but it is still annoying.

I regret that I am leaving the car/truck business and going on to do other things. I have noticed that about 75% of the questions I have gotten here since the start of this topic are more technical questions than sales interest, so, what I have done is ask one of our Master Tech's to take over for me, he has been a chrysler tech for over 25 years and can certainly answer your Dodge Truck questions and concerns. He has however started the topic under a new name, you will find him at topic #1496 any questions for a dodge tech. He is very knowledgeable about Dodge trucks and all other Chrysler products also. I hope that he can be of assistance to you with anything you might want to know. I know he has been to me!!
So, for all of you that have sent me questions in the past, I hope I have answered them or helped you out in any way I could.

    Thanks again..................T REX >:)

Is this anti-spin differential like the old posi-track with the clutches inside. Will it cause uneven tire ware or rear end hop in a tight corner. Are there two anti-spin differentials on a 4X4. I am getting ready to place an order for a 2500 Quad Cab 4X4 Cummins
  • bigvenis78bigvenis78 Member Posts: 1
Why doesn't Dodge offer the plow prep package on the sport appearance group on the 2500's? I think a lot of people would like that so I was just curious why they don't offer it.

I BOUGHT MY 2000 TUNDRA IN OCTOBER 99, MY PROBLEM IS I JUMPED THE GUN AND DIDN'T CHECK TO SEE WHAT THE "PAYLOAD" CAPACITY WAS. I PAID CASH. I SPARED NO EXPENSE AND GOT ALL THE OPTIONS,INCLUDING "LO-JACK. MINUS THE TONNEU COVER AS I WANTED A SLIDE-IN CAMPER. THERE ARE CAMPERS THAT FIT IT BUT NOT THE STYLE I WANT.I NEED THE BIGGER STYLE SLIDE-IN. WHICH IN TURN MEANS I NEED A BIGGER TRUCK!!! I WENT TO THE PHILADELPHIA CAR SHOW TONIGHT , AND FELL HEAD OVER HEALS FOR THE "DODGE" 3500 DUALLY DIESEL. $38,000 SOMETHING, WAS THE STICKER. MY QUESTION IS, WHAT KIND OF BEATING WILL I TAKE TRADING IT TO A DEALER, COMPARED TO SELLING IT STRAIGHT OUT TO AN INDIVIDUAL?? THE TRUCK HAS 9500 MILES AND HAS HAD 3 OR 4 OIL CHANGES ALREADY. I HAVE EVERY PAPER SINCE DAY ONE. AND I MIGHT ADD, HAS BEEN METICULOSLY TAKEN CARE OF!! OF COURSE I WILL BE LOOKING FOR BEST OFFER.. THANKS REPLY TO SCOOB42@AOL.COM

In the new Dodge magazine there is mention of an increase in horsepower and torque. The horsepower increases to 245 and torque increases to 505 with a manual transmission. What changed? Can the change be done to older 24 valve diesel engines?

Yesterday 16 Feb I called Daimler Chrysler to determine the order status of 2001 2500 Quad Cab 4X with Cummins. Talked with Dan Bogojevski. Never had the extreme displeasure of speaking to an illiterate, abusive, arrogant, and indifferent troglodyte. He deleted my order placed 24 Jan. How does a person doing phone support refuse access to management support / intervention. These DC customer assistance folks are arrogant to new extremes. According to Dan Bogojevski I have one option only - Reorder. With wait times exceeding 60 days and now having a little insight into DC customer care, reordering has little appeal. There are many vehicles available perfectly adequate to meet our needs At least GM and Ford have alternative venues in place to prevent one employee from taking such extreme measures. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank You. Bruce - bat123@qnet.com

Try this web site, www.madisoncountydodge.com. This site was established by an unhappy camper, and contains a link to the names and email addresses of responsible people at Daimler/Chrysler. My experience happily, has been diametrically opposed to what has occurred to you. My representative is absolutely great, and I have expressed my feelings to his supervisor. I also know of folks who have not had such good luck with their individual representatives. Hope that this helps, and at the least you will find it a very interesting site.

Before you scrap your Dodge plans I would check with a supervisor. Like Bookitty, I have had a great experience with my DC rep. He has been professional and, above all, helpful and knowledgeable. I too will be contacting his supervisor to let him know, that as a customer, I am most appreciative. I am sorry to hear about your experience and I'm sure management will be as well. Good Luck!
  • carls5carls5 Member Posts: 62
Bat123, Sorry you hit a bad one. I have dealt with three different people so far and everyone has been polite and helpful. Before you scrape Dodge I suggest that you call back the number and ask for a supervisor. Tell them your problem and ask for help. If that does not work ask for the supervisors supervisor, keep excalating. I doubt very much if he could delete your order but if this did happen than I would complain and state that you expect priority treatment and that they should be going back toyour dealer, rerequesting the order and give it a high priority when they enter it back into the system. Like I said before I think that the majority of the people are helpful and responsive, I would hope that Dodge will weed out the bad apples who are not this way.

    Good Luck

Carl you seem like a nice guy, the first I have met since buying my Ram.My experience with Dodge is that they offer a second rate product and even worse there customer support/dealer network is HORRIBLE!! I won't bore you with all of my problems let's just say I have 56 service write ups and 29 days in the shop at 4 different dealers.I am now in the Lemon Law process. My question to you is why do you sell Mopar products?Aren't you tired of seeing past custemer's angry? On my numerous trips to the dealers I have noticed that the place looks like a hospital waiting room, people are sad and depressed.I know there is good and bad in all but what really pissed me off is the FACT that I have had no help from anyone at Dodge service writers, service managers, and the numerous people that I have talk to at the 1800 number. All I have got was a real bad case of kiss [non-permissible content removed] and phone calls and letters regarding my service experience.Dodge does not care at all about my problems all they are interested in is the bottom line.

i will be in the market for a new midsize pickup within the next 6 months. i currently drive a 1990 Dodge Dakota. 4cyl 5spd. i have owned it for 7 years. the truck has been fantastic for over 130,000 miles. and it is still going strong! i still use it every day for work but i find myself in need of a longer cargo bed now that i have taken on more job responsibilities. does the new dakota come in a 4x2,4 or 6 cyl and a longbed? if not are there other makes that do? i'd really like to stay with Dodge given my fantastic experience. thanks

CAN ANYONE COMMENT ON DODGE OFFERING A DIESEL IN THE DAKOTA? I UNDERSTAND THAT SUCH A COMBINATION HAS BEEN DISPLAYED AT ONE OR MORE RECENT AUTO SHOW. I BELIEVE THE ENGINE WAS APPROX. 4.0 LITRE TURBO V-6. WITH TORQUE FIGURE EXCEEDING GAS 5.9 AND BETTER EXPECTED FUEL ECONOMY. I BELIEVE THIS WOULD BE GREAT COMBINATION. ANY RUMORS FROM FACTORY? THANKS! JIMT

Getting close to a final deal on a 2000 Dakota. My dealer here in Georgia says there is a $500 advertising fee on these trucks. Mandatory and imposed by the Chrysler. Is this true?
I have purchased about 8 new cars since 1982 and do not remember ever paying such a fee.
    Thanks,
    jh
  • trex99trex99 Member Posts: 61
Yes the advertising fees are true....they are on all DC vehicles....pretty sure they are on most other brands as well they just dont want you to know you are paying for their advertising.....

I have been waiting for over two months for a special order Dakota club cab. I have spoken with at least eight different DC employees and most are capable, ALL are polite. But my dealer has ignored my calls and even the sales manager only returned one call claiming my truck had been built when the zone distribution agent maintained otherwise!! If another company made a larger compact truck, it'd be all over but the shouting. The real reason they are brushing me off is the salesman quoted me too much for a trade figure on my 99 Ram so they are hoping I'll just go away and bring my no money deal to Ford or Nissan. Pretty lousy way to build PR considering this will be my third transaction in a fiscal year if it holds together. Anyone have a name or an address for a complaint to be logged that might mean something? Please let me know!

Take a page from my book. Before you buy a Chrysler or Dodge truck or car sit in the waiting room with the real customers. Listen to their tales of woe. DC tries their best to make every complaint drag on till the warranty is expired & when they actually due cover a defect, your vehicle comes back dirty, scratched or dinged. And don't forget to check their work. I always found missing bolts, hoses disconnected; it's impossible. Their styling is great but quality and service are not important to them.
  • chadc777chadc777 Member Posts: 54
goldstar1, I don't understand how you can make such a sweeping statements about Dodge/Chrysler dealers. How many do you actually have experience with? If its just one or two, find another dealership. All of them are not like you say.

As for the waiting room stories...what do you expect. You are in a waiting room of people getting their vehicle fixed. All the people that have good luck with the vehicles are not sitting in the waiting room telling their stories of no problems. Slanted viewpoints at best.

Not saying some dealerships aren't bad, just saying most aren't so bad.

I am looking to buy a new dodge ram 2500 extended cab 4WD do I need the anti spin differential axle I plan on lowing snow with this truck. Is it like the old positive traction.
  • trolleydodgertrolleydodger Member Posts: 1
In my diligent research on Dodge's Dakota 4X4 [extended cab base] I ran across something called "Regional 4X4 Adjustment". It amounted to an $850.00 deduction off the price of the vehicle for certain regions. It appeared to apply to my region. Can anyone explain?
  • bpeeblesbpeebles Member Posts: 4,085
    (mrlevel)
The TRAC-LOC differential is simply the Dodge's 'brand name' for a LSD. (Limited Slip Differential) Operation is virtually identical to GM's 'Positraction' unit. (They may even be built by the same outfit...Dana?)

Neither of these is a LOCKING differential. They use 'clutch packs' within the differential assembly to assist in distributing the torque between the wheels. I am not aware of a LSD being available on the FRONT of any 4x4 vehicle.

If you desire LOCKING differential(s) it may not be available from the factory but there are very good 'aftermarket' units that can be installed by any competent mechanic.

In any case... if you intend to plow snow make SURE you get the factory 'prep' for this capability. Also be aware of any warantee implications that plowing snow may have on your new truck.

hey guys - few questions for this thread: anyone know if the 2001 Dakota Quads will offer a moonroof option? Also, when and where is this Dodge Maxx going to appear. I've seen a few tantalizing tidbits about it, but nothing solid spec wise and photos of interior. I saw all those photos of the Dodge Power Wagon Diesel - sounds really expensive and way too small for my needs.
