Well, I was out in every snowfall we had last year (and it was more frequent than we usually get). Probably between 1-5 inches. The ESP was flawless. The only problem I experienced was minor slippage when accelerating from a stop. That being said, I had a Wrangler and they are pretty much unstoppable compared to most cars. So, if your Wrangler has a hard time with the hill, the Magnum probably will as well.
Never, Never, Never.....You are going to destroy your engine
I bought an '05 in March which was built 12/2004. To date I have had the dealer check alignment for the right pull "problem" which he stated was "normal". I believe this since many techies have stated that this car is setup so that the road crown (higher in the center than on the sides for rain runoff) can be felt more. Since one normally drives on the right side of the road, the car follows the tilt and pulls right. This is apparently normal for this car. PS: There was an alignment issue on the early models but these have probably been flushed from the dealer inventory.
I have also had the "dash pop" fixed...20 minutes, A/C lockup...1 hour to reprogram, and a Homelink weak transmitter...2 visits / 60 minutes to replace, all at no charge.
If you are significantly plagued by both the desire to have this car and the worry about problems I suggest you consider the optional extended warranty. I got an seven year 85,000 mile extended warranty with zero deductible on EVERYTHING, no exclusions except wear items like brakes, tires, etc. It listed for about $1,800. I dealt this along with the car deal (1% below dealer invoice plus $100) and got it for less than $1250. These packages are high profit for the dealer and they can discount them greatly. You should do this when you deal the car since you hold the all cards at that time.
I also got a bunch of oil change certificates, good at any CDJ dealer. They reduced the cost of an oil change to about $12....remember this car (Hemi) requires 7 quarts of 5w20. This is about 2 quarts more than the "Jiffy Lube" places quote their deal for and you would incur a premium charge from them.
Any of the people who had the "water in the transmission problem" should qualify to have it fixed under warranty. They should insist on a replacement transmission versus a "drain & refill" process. Once the water get inside corrosion begins...draining will not reverse the corrosion.
Good luck in your pondering.
My question; The car doesn't slip in gear as far as I know. But, we park on an inclined driveway and when you shift from P into D it has a tendency to clunk rather loudly. Also when you shift into P and take your foot off the brake it rolls backwards about a foot. Dealer says its the way the transmission is designed. My wife has also experienced 2 occasions where she's shifted into gear and the car doesn't move. She can rev the engine as if its in gear but it just sits. She shifts back into P then back into D and it clunks and engages.
Don't get me wrong, this 43 year old male LOVES this car. Its all I can do to keep driving my 98 1500 Dodge Ram instead of sneaking out the door with the Magnum. But, having had transmission problems with my pickup I shudder at the thought of any long term issues with "The Beast"
* First set the emergency brake
* Put the trans. into N.
* Take your foot off of the brake and let the car move so that the emerg. brake is
holding the car.
* Put the trans. into P.
This or a variation will prevent the transmission from 'hanging' on the parking pawl and causing the clunk you hear when you move from P to D
i do have a small problem with the dash dimmer, it doesn't dim. Thats not so bad, it can be fixed. The problem is the Dealer. Thomas Sales and Service of Bend Oregon has refused to sevice it. A little history: On my 2005, they screwed me around on the oil smoking, rebuilt the wrong part of the engine, put chemicals in the oil to make seals swell. I never wanted to go back...but they are the only dealer in Central Oregon. So I went there with the idea I'd watch them every second so they can't sabotage my new 06. They refused to let me watch or be in the back seat. I know they have insurance reg's to follow but this is a special case. So now I have no dealer within 200 miles to go to. It will take a day or more off work to go to anohter dealer, like the one I got the 06 from (they are good,200 mi) but will Dodge pay for lost wages to go this far?? TS&S is not a 5 star dealer. I have heard many bad stories about them. I would think Dodge might yank thier right to be a dealer and find someone else to run it. So for now, I put a towel over the gauges at night.

Magnum29 05 SE Magnum
I had the same experience last year - Dodge tech started to try a patch - a more knowledgeable said no - pull it and pump. I'm now replacing at 30,000 miles - the screw was at 15,000 miles.
I'm not happy with 30,000 but sounds like I'm in better shape than most. I'm going with Goodyear Assurance.
05 Magnum RT rwd
I only have 3000 mi on it so tire wear is not apparent. The pull to the right: well, yes and no.
As has been noted, some roads seem worse than others what with ruts and all. When I'm in the "tire grooves", it does seem to want to drift right. But then I will put the left tires on the "crown", the right tires in the middle of the right driving lane and the car tracks straight ahead.
I did manage to find a "level" stretch of road (amazing how little level stretches there are) and the car tracked straight.
I have no issues with this car.
It smell like the worst BO any one could have.
thanks romannumal :confuse:
You can plug in any parameter/application you want to find all the choices. Also has tests and reviews.

Where on God's green earth is the friggin oil filter?!?!? I've taken the bottom rear panel off and I can't find the damn thing! Do I need to take off the bottom forward panel off too?? Would it be easier to drive the RT onto ramps when changing oil (provided I can find the elusive little bugger)? One other question-what is the consensus on high performance air filters like K-N? Are they worth the money or is it all just so much hype? :confuse:
As for the K&N filter, I run them in all my vehicles. Some report better performance, some better gas mileage. I haven't experienced anything noticable. However, I buy them for the longevity. You only buy one and clean and reoil it as needed. Saves money in the long run.
We just turned 30,000 miles and replace the tires at 26,000 with the tread indicators nearly flush. I am not going to whine about the poor tread wear. Let's be real here folks, we got the HEMI and we use it. With the ESP on it corners like a snake and we take it out on drives nearly every weekend and try different roads every time.
Great fun but if you do like I do, you will be lucky to get to 25,000 before laying out the 600+ for new Continentals. I have run flats on my Vette and they are a darned site more expensive and don't wear any better.
So if you got a HEMI, have fun and be careful. This car can get you in trouble!
When we first got it, it pulled to the right like some of the other entries I noted here at the site. My dealer flagged a warranty fix to the front suspension alignment components and installed the fix. It has bee straight as a die ever since. We rotate every 6,000 and no alignment problems as yet. Great car from my standpoint! Won't haul those 8 foot 2x4's like the commercial says easily, but it can be done. My wife loves it!!!
No other problems in 30,000 so it's a keeper for me..

Thanks.
Folks, if you are going to explore speeds north of 130, please, PLEASE, upgrade your tires.

across the country and have gotten 12 different reasons
for my cars pulling to the right. Have had the front end
worked on with new bolts, different alignment machines,
one factory rep himself overseeing the work all to no
satisfaction or remedy of the problem--STILL PULLS!!
Would like some help with your problems for our Lemon
Law hearing which is coming up this month. Please post
any you have also had to replace tires at 8500 miles due
to their cupping after all my rotations. Have been told
the pulling has been built into the car to avoid crossing
over to the center line thus avoiding a head on collision.
Makes sense to me??? The Porkster-- :lemon: :lemon:
For everyone out there....document tire rotations, tire wear, allignments....everything. The more info we have, the quicker we might get this resolved.
6 times from a dealer is nuts. If a mech compounds their inattention to the very well-known TSB's out on this issue by telling you the car is "supposed to pull" -- as in the car is not supposed to go in the direction it is pointed -- take that as a sign that you have the wrong dealer looking at your problem.
And worst case... the alignment spec is published, as are the TSB's. There is also a Mopar alignment kit available that enhances your range of adjustment. You can get the car aligned yourself by any competent shop if all dealers in your area are staffed by chimps.
And get yourself to a place like lxforums.com, where literally thousands of Magnum/300/Charger owners have experience with your car and can share the wealth.
