I ordered my truck around the first week of October. It has been a loooooong wait. If the build date is good, I hope to be in my truck sometime in January. The dealership I ordered from the one of the largest in the nation. We had the allocation since October.
I hate to be a pest, but I think the tonnage of your truck order makes a big difference in when you get your truck. If you post about orders, TPW's, build dates or any other info about 4 doors, please mention whether it is a 1/2 ton(1500) or a 3/4 ton (2500). If you will do this for us, it will help the huge group who are waiting for a new truck. I have been waiting for a 3/4 ton 4X4 EC for too long. If it ever gets built, it will have three doors. I'm thinking about canceling it and waiting until I can order one with 4 doors.
Thanks to all of you who post here. You have been a source of encouragement for many of your fellow truckers.
al, everything i've heard or read here and elsewhere points to 1/2 ton production initiating somewhere between 12/20 and 01/17, and 3/4 ton production initiating around april or may. note: this is meant to cover 4 door models only. i think you'll be hard pressed to get a 3 door 3/4 ton right now because the 3/4's are only supposed to make up 5% of the overall market. they're prob'ly mostly gone, so i'd go ahead and change yours to a 4 door. the guy i dealt with for my 1/2 ton claimed to have allocations on 4 door silverados (never differentiated between 1/2 and 3/4 tons). and he got me an order number in 5 days - which is a lot more than several other 4 door 1500 folks have gotten from their dealers. drop greg stancill at montgomery chevy in louisville, ky a note about 3/4's and see what he says. he'll deliver anywhere in the continental usa to include picking up a trade if you have one. he's very straightforward on negotiating and beat my best local dealer offer by almost $1000. it can't hurt to try. you can get him at:
I phone General Motors today to check on my order. I was told last week that my truck will be built within 7 to 10 days.
Well, it seems that I (again) received some WRONG information. I realize that GM is a large company, but it would be nice to speak to someone who actually know what the hell they are talking about.
The GM spokesperson told me that there is thirteen steps to an order. My order is now at step four. She has no idea when I will get a build date. The plants will be on X-mas break from 12/24/99 to 01/03/00. I was told to phone in the first week of the new year.
Thanks for the post about getting a 3/4 ton 4 DR. I think you are right on the money. It does not look like my truck will be built as a 3 DR. That is OK with me, actually. I will drop Greg a line and see what he has to say. You know, I wouldn't mind a drive from Louisville KY back to Texas. It would be a good break in period and a beautiful drive in the spring. We might even take the long way home. By way of Denver, maybe. ;<)
al...one other note - greg will deal for $500 over invoice (note: this is true for 1500 4 doors, not sure what he'll do for 2500's) including delivery. if you pick it up, that knocks off his $350 trailering fee, translation: invoice plus $150...like to see someone beat THAT. happy hunting... kyle
Well I was real excited about getting a new Z71 4th door, when I first put my money down, I was told 6- 8 weeks it went way past that and I was just called and told that mine would be built on Jan 17, and should have it by the end of Jan. In the mean time I have thought this over, and realized that I did not need a truck full time every day, and Home Depot rents trucks $20.00 for 75 min. and 5.oo for each 15 min and you do not have to put any gas or pay for mileage. since I want the truck to work around the house once and a while I changed my mind. Then when I read about all the problems about vibration and hinges and all that it makes me very nervous. so I decided to buy a 97 Lexus LS 400 30000 miles and I will pay much less money and the ride is awesome and they have no problems at all with their cars, when will it ever happen that Domestic will get their act together inside and out. I know that some will get mad about this as I am not buying domestic but really it is not hard to see why, I will keep checking this site to see how you all are doing, and best of luck with your Chevy, I will see you in mine, But Home Depot is paying for it and taking care of the trouble. While I enjoy the comfort and dependability of the Lexus
I live in OHIO and ordered a new 3/4 ton ext.cab 4wheel drive sliverado. My dealer as yet to come up with any info on a build date or any other information. This is crazy. What is going on with G.M.
We were given a Order # from our Chevy dealer about 2 weeks ago. Last week called GM 800 No. and were told to call back in a week re: a build date. Called today and were told that we have a "Week of January 10th" build re: our CK1500 LT, Extended Cab 4x4,Z71,3.73, towing package (Pewter). Rep said should expect to take delivery about 2 to 3 weeks after build week. Our order was accepted by Chevy the 2nd week in November. Anyone else got a "build week"? Will be interesting if Truck gets build week of Jan. 10th.

just got a call from my dealer (greg stancill in louisville, ky, will deliver anywhere in the continental usa for $500 over invoice, give him a call and tell him i sent you) yesterday. i ordered a '00 LS, Z71, 4 dr Ext Cab, blah blah blah, on 24 november, got an order number the 29th of nov, and got a build date of 10 jan yesterday. same story basically, target production week of 10 jan, 3-5 weeks after for delivery. hopefully gm has its act together and there won't be any more delays, and i'll see my truck in the first week of feb. can't wait...good luck to everyone and have some happy and safe holidays!
Two weeks ago my dealer said my order was accepted and he had a TPW of 12/20/99. I starting calling chevy directly once I had the order number, and they told me last week that the built week was 12/13/99 and that is was currently being built. I called yesterday and they said it has been built and is at emission/testing and should be shipped any day. I've got my fingers crossed. Its a Y2K 1500 LS 4-door, 4.8 5-speed 4x4 Z71 with a 4.10 rear end.
I called GM today and according to them, my truck and my dad's truck (both are 1500 silverado's, 4th door)were built this week and in transit. I hope there is some truth in what they told me. It has been such a long time and a lot of run around getting these trucks. I hope that all the rest of you are starting to get similar news which might verify my status. I don't know how long shipping will take, but maybe only a couple weeks.
When I bought my '98 Dodge Quad the 4th door was the clincher. I was on the fence between Chevy and Dodge and after trying out the Quad Cab there was no longer a choice. My wife and I both use the truck andthe convenience of that 4th door is great. I would not have a truck any other way. We can toss our own golf clubs in back from our own sides of the truck and when grocery shopping it is easier than using the trunk of our Bonnie. Why GM has been dragging their feet on this is a mystery to me, especially since they invented the 3 door for their S10/Tacoma.
Just talked with GM and my dealer and both confirmed that my '00 4 dr was built last week and is now in transit. Hope to take the first drive by around the 5th to 7th of Jan 2000. All nightmares do finally come to an end!!
Called my dealer (Memphis,Tn.) today and was able to get VIN on my new truck. That should prove that the truck is built. The dealer said that their information was for immediate delivery and that the truck (Silverado,2000,4th door)would be here this week. Hope they are right. I hope the rest of you are hearing likewise.
Well, as I've posted before, I placed my order for a 1500 Lt fully loaded 4 dr shortbed on Oct 1st. I was told last week that it would be built Jan 11th. and I should have in my hands by Feb 1st. My dealer also informed me that the 2500s won't come with a 4th door until about June. I'm glad I'll be getting it soon, but, I am a little pissed. I'm paying 1000 over invoice plus about 375 for advertising. I agreed to pay this because I believed the lies my dealer told me. He said that because he is the areas largest chevy dealer he would [verbaly] guarantee I would get the new 4th door before anyone else around. The best deal I could find was for 750 over invoice plus advertising, and that was a small dealer who really wanted my business. (BTW he just allocation to order it Dec 15th)
Now seeing that I paid soooo much over invoice, and waited soooo long to get this far, and finaly hear that others who have just recently placed orders are getting delivery before me, and payed much closer to invoice, or under in one case, makes me think I'm getting screwed BIG TIME by my dealer.
I'm glad that all of you are getting such great deals. This is my first NEW vehicle, and i wanted the best. This truck better be worth it. It's been so long since I ordered it, I'm forgeting why I chose it in the first place.
sounds to me like you got smoked by your dealer. i'd threaten him that unless he comes down, you're going to back out. i ordered my '00 ls, 4 door, z71 ($500 over invoice) over thanksgiving and expect it the first week of february. if he balks at you wanting to back out, tell him about all the other folks getting their four doors before you and ask him why you have to pay so much when other's are getting theirs before you. he may have taken you for a ride my friend. do what you can to get out now. if you need reference to a good dealer (mine), email me at kwerking@aol.com.
Yeah. I put 500 down on a VISA, and it's a signed contract by both the dealer and myself. I know I'm paying too much, but, do I really have a choice? I already have my build date, and it looks like I'll actually have it in about a month. There is one other thing I noticed though. It seems that most are getting the LS. I've opted for the LT. Are LSes (what is the proper plural form?) being made sooner or in larger quantity? I do recall the dealer spewing some BS about the LT 4DOOR being THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER blah blah blah, and it is a PREMIUM VEHICLE yada yada, and GETS THE HIGHEST PRICE.
So I spend a few hundred more than most on a $30000 truck. I guess I have to look at it like I am getting exactly what I want.
I don't think I buy the LT as being a premium vehicle. I know my dealer used three of his eight allocations to order LT's, mine being one. I see mostly LS's on the road. I only bought an LT because of a GM employee discount. It sounds like your salesman should be wearing a plaid sports coat, smoke a cigar and have slick hair.
No matter what you do, someone is always going to get a better deal. After dealing with 4 different dealers, I thought I had landed a pretty good deal, until I saw what others were getting at this site. Some got around paying advertising cost, some destination charges, some delivery and processing fees, etc.etc. Just wait and see what people are going to pay in Aug. 2000 for the same truck your buying now. You could have saved $250 by not wanting to be the first in your area. I understand where your coming from because I too wanted my truck sooner and didn't want to wait. That is generally going to cost!!!
If you did the best you could do in your specific area, then that's all you can do. If you back out now, you chance having to start all over again with the wait. Read your contract real close, there are provisions to cancel and get your deposit back if certain conditions are met. Dealer can also do likewise.
As far as LT's more sought after than LS's, he may be right. However, $1000 above invoice on LS or LT is still $1000.
One more thought then I'm outta here. Some people actually pay MSRP for there Vehicles, you didn't. The average "best you can do" is 10%-12% off MSRP. Your somewhere in between. Good luck
As of 5:30 PM CDT, on Thursday Dec 30,1999, I drove out of the dealership lot in my NEW 2000 Silverado LS 4th DOOR. Yes, Virginia, they really do exist!!!!!
great news!!! woohoo!!! the wait is almost over. any problems you can tell? doors work well, no squeaks, vibes, excessive wind noise, etc? good luck and happy new year!
I have about 67 miles on it now, and all I can say is, " It was worth the wait". I am very impressed with the quality and soundness of the rear DOORS, smooth operation, tight fit, VERY LITTLE road noise (less than my '99), great ride, etc. etc. There was a slight price increase from when I ordered it, but my dealership honered the original price. I can not say enough about Keating Chevrolet in Winnie Tx; they have been great throughout this entire ordeal. Anyway, for everyone that is waiting, hang on and I pray that each of you will be as happy and satisfied as I am.
z176, Congratulations on your purchase. I was wondering if you know the actual build date of your truck. I am curious to see if Chevy was giving me erroneous information when I called them.
You said "I am curious to see if Chevy was giving me erroneous information when I called them."
You have GOT to be kidding!! GM??? Giving you false info? Getting different answers from several different people? Getting the run-a-round? Feeling like they could give a hoot about you? Waiting and waiting to spend $30000 on a truck they will not build? Do I sound bitter? Well, I AM!!! If they don't get off their collective behinds and build my 3/4 ton 4X4 3dr E/C truck, I'm gonna cancel the order and re-order a 4dr E/C. Then, I will NEVER get a new truck.
It was built on Dec 22 at the Fort Wayne Assembly plant. It arrived in Winnie Texas at 10:00 A.M. on Dec 30. We were really not expecting it until next week sometime. Have about 200 miles on it now, and it keeps on impressing me so far.
I was called this afternoon by a dealer in Montana and informed that Chevy is building the 4th door 2500's now. Also that they are building a lot more 1500's than 2500's (as usual for the infinite wisdom at GM). Can't even get the 3 dr type built quick enough, now they are into the 4th door type. I'm just about ready to cancel the whole thing and forget about it altogether. A 2500 is going to be extremely hard to come by, if at all for a long, long time. Bad business practices from GM, plus all of the troubles that they are having just sort of puts a cold blanket on wanting one now.
Last week I stopped in at GM dealer in Calgary (that's in Canada eh?) and asked the sales _manager_ when he expected to have 4 door trucks show up on his lot. He told me without a hint of hesitation it would be a good 6 to 8 months before that happens. Yes sir, if I want to wait for a 4 door I'm to come back in August or thereabouts. Meanwhile I might want to have a look at their great selection of 3 door models. It makes you wonder how stupid dealers think customers are these days, particularly given the widespread use of the internet?
calling regularly to check on status of my 1500 4dr (ordered 11/22, told 12/20 it was built and in transit, then corrected to build date of 1/17). this am i was told by gm it is built! can't wait to get it. they must be pumping them out. ill post more info as i can. i know there a plenty of us waiting.
big amen to the stupidity or nerve of the dealers telling us no 4drs til summer..... i've had several tell me that. i just walk. probably will drive by the local guy who's been feeding me that line to show him.
An associate at work mentioned that he had recently read an article in a major truck/car review magazine that indicated that there was a significant increase in wind noise on the 4 door Silverado.
Has anyone seen this article? My 4 door is on order with production start scheduled for this week.

I WAS LOOKING IN THE GM BUYPOWER SECTION. THERE IS A DEALER IN MAPLEWOOD MN. SHOWING ABOUT 5 4DR 4WD PICKUPS ON HIS LOT. ALSO SHOWS SOME IN KS.AND SAINT LOUIS. I'M STILL WATCHING FOR SOME TO SHOW UP A LITTLE CLOSER TO THE EAST COAST.
number1: I have been driving my 4 door now for a week, and after having a '99 Silverado 3 door, I and my wife both believe that the 4 door is quieter than the 3 door.
bhimelright, you want something close to the east coast and cheap, call greg stancill at montgomery chevy in lousiville kentucky, he'll deliver the truck to you. how's that for close? i ordered mine 24 nov, expect delivery 1st week of feb. email me for more info... kwerking@aol.com
Z176, Since you seem to be the only person here with a new 4 door Silverado, can you please give us a rundown of what type of Silverado you have, its options, and what you feel are all the positives and negatives about it. Thanks, David H.
Has afs11 grown that much older waiting for his truck? Does anyone know if 3 doors are still on an assembly line somewhere or are all trucks in production now 4-door models (x-cab 2WD)?
dch0300> This truck was ordered as is, to fit my requirements / needs. Here it is: '00 1500 LS; 4 Dr; 2 WD; 4.8-V8; 3.42; Ext. Pewter with Med.Gray Custom Ent.
Options: Bucket Seats, Towing Package, Firm Ride Suspension, Large Air Cleaner, Alum. Wheels, P255/70R-16 Tires, Fog Lamps
After Market: Line X Spray in bed liner; Bug Shield; Vent Visors (front only); Full Length Fiberglas running boards; & Leer Bed Cap
As compared to the '99 3 Door I had, here are the positives:
1) Easier access for rear seat passengers 2) Easier access for to vac; clean windows, etc. 3) Not having to walk around to put packages, etc. behind the drivers door 4) Less rodd noise 5) Better ride with firm ride suspension
I could keep going, but if you have specifics, fill free to e-mail me and I will get back to you.
that is the kind of post that really helps! thanks much. mine is in transit now and almost exactlly like yours (differences - 5.3, graphite cloth, ride control suspension, power seats, cassette and cd, no fog lights.) so glad to hear no probs. enjoy and keep us updated!!
Waiting for TPW of nearly the same truck except bench seat and 3.73 axle in GMC SLE. Glad to hear you are happy, but cannot understand why your new truck has less road noise than does a 3-door. Great if it does, but can't comprehend how another door makes the cab more quiet -- you would presume the opposite. More insulation for 2000? Al

When did you order your truck? I ordered my pickup on 11/04/99 & received the order number on 11/08/99.
How long have you been waiting?

I agree with you 110%. I live just outside Vancouver (also in Canada, eh!). The dealership was very eager to sell me a 3 door model.
They changed their minds very quickly when I started to leave. I factory ordered a '00 4WD X/C (4 dr). I have a build week of 01/17/00.
I think that you will see the four door Silverado's on dealer lots by the end of March.
