I finally have a built date for my 4th door (Ordered 21Oct99). The date that I got is week of 10Jan2000. There was one catch though, The dealer told me to expect my truck to come with limit slip rear-end as GM supplier can not keep up with standard rear-end volumns. Has anyone else heard anything on this? The truck I ordered is 4WD 4 Door LT.

WOW! Yet another person with a build date for next week!

Chris (cwidener1), sorry, I've not heard nothing about your unique situation. BUT, I've noticed a little trend here that I will elaborate on.

I ordered MY 4 door LT on October 1st, and was RECENTLY told of a build date of Jan 11th. (same week as yours) I was getting concerned about all the other orders being placed AFTER mine, and people getting deliveries BEFORE my truck was even built! Now here is the trend, and only MY opinion of what is happening.

When GM started building 4 doors, they ONLY built 4 doors. (is anyone waiting MONTHS for a 3 door? I think NOT!) They decided to build the base and LS models in the 1500 series first. No offense, but these are the cheapest trucks of the line, and should sell VERY quickly, whether they were ordered or not. These are the ONLY kinds that people have been receiving. At least, they are the only ones I've been READING about anyone receiving.

Next, the 4 door 1500 LT models are being built. I may have missed a few posts, but every post I've seen on a 1500 LT shows a build date around next week. Target Production Week (TPW) Jan 10th.
See the pattern yet?

I figure the first 4 doors were built around Nov 15th. Thats about 6 weeks of base models and LS models. I would guess that the LTs will run for at least 3 weeks, and maybe, up to 6 weeks.

If I'm right, the 2500 base and LS models should start production around Feb 1st or Feb 21st.

Finally, the 2500 LTs start production 3 to 6 weeks after that. Figure as early as Feb21 (3 week 1500 LT and 3 week 2500 base and LS) to as late as April 7th. (6 week 1500 LT and 6 week 2500 base and LS)

In a couple of months we'll see if I was right.

Does this mean that no more 1500 base or LS models will be built until the 2500 LTs are done? Probably not. It may be that only certain lines are building certain versions of this model and the 1500 LT assembly line is just getting started.

Either way, why else did it take this long for the 1500 LTs to start, and the 2500's postponed till much later?

I know it's a long post, but I WANT MY TRUCK, and I WANT IT NOW!!!

Well folks the 4 door truck I ordered on 9-22-99 has finally arrived. I picked it up today at 4:00 pm today from my local dealer here in Georgia. I must say the 4 month wait was well worth it. A red Z-71 4wd locking rear diff, auto trac, bucket seats, trailering pack, 5.3L. Wind noise is not a problem just as quite as my 99 that I traded in. No vibration up to 85 MPH. No rattles or unusal noises. Great truck. Updates to follow. To all you that are waiting hang in there good things do come to those who are patient.

Thanks for the update on how GM is jerking us around. I really don't think the dealers even have a clue of what has gone on. It would of been nice if General Motors would communicate a little with the dealers on what the schedules were in advance instead of promising 6-8 wks delivery time and not being able to fulfill that commitment.

I ordered my 4-door Silverado LS with 5.3L,2WD, Trailering pkg etc, etc on 11/22/99. GM said this morning that it was built on 1/4/00 and awaiting a carrier.

It appears from previous messages that the arrival date to Phoenix would be another 2-3 weeks.

Does this sound right? What plant would it have been built at?

I'll offer a different possibility since my 4 dr. LS is also due to be built this week ( and the base model doesn't have a 4 dr. option ). I think that both LS and LT models can be built at the same time along with other options (including mixing GMC and Chevy versions). I don't know about mixing 1500 and 2500 models at the same time. I believe that 4 dr. units built in November were from a pre-production limited unit build to find any final production quirks (units shown at the auto shows, etc were most likely from hand assembled prototypes). During the Christmas to New Years shutdown, the Fort Wayne factory was then fully converted to only build 4 dr. units. The time between early November and Jan. 4th gives GM time to make any last minute adjustments for volume production. January's output of 4 dr. trucks are totally sold or fully allocated for initial dealers stock, so Feburary is the earliest that GM can make 4 doors as standard. The dealers current inventory of 3 dr. units will cover customers that are more flexiable.

In checking on my silverado (built 1/4 and awaiting courier), I was told by GM that the courier services were backed up by rail and they were actively seeking truckers to assist with the delivery of the new Silverados. They could not pin down an ETA for that reason. I will call back tomorrow to determine which plant it will be delivered from.

My dad and I picked up our "00, 1500, Silverado LS, X/C 4TH DOOR, trucks today!!! All I can tell you boys is that the 4 month wait is over and worth it. I have put 100 miles on mine and so far everything is perfect. The quality and performance is outstanding. You just can't imagine how great this truck is until you drive it.

Hang in there, yours' is on it's way.

I understand that their is a GM customer loyalty
rebate worth $500 off the price of the vehicle. My
in-laws did not receive one in the mail. They
bought a GM last year. I understand that if they
get the certificate, they can pass it on to me to
use on my new Silverado due in next week. How do
you get a hold of one of these certificates? They
are good through 2/29/00.

My guess is that you can't stop driving your new truck long enough to do anything else, right? I remained level headed myself and only took off
a whole day from work to drive mine.....come bedtime my only problem was deciding whether to sleep in the house or in the truck.....ain't these trucks nice? Ditto on the wait and the worth it!!!

Not only did I take off 1 day last week, but I am going to take 3 days vacation next week. Man, where can I haul my boat to??????? I hope that this is not contagious, because once all these 4 doors start arriving, there might be a wide spread case of chronic Silveridous in the workplace.

the same. Remember the article said to boost slumping sales, GM was mailing coupons, didn't say anything about a rebate. Possibly though, they are doing two different things, don't know why they would, but who knows? Maybe Kyle knows..

I received my Sierra Ext. cab 4 door truck tonight!!! So far everything is perfect. I think my truck and my brother in-laws are the first GMC 4 doors in the Memphis area.

My dealer will honor the certificate on my new 4-door Silverado LS 1500. I oredered it on 11/22/99 under the GMO plan, so I am getting a screaming deal (17% under MSRP + GM card rebate and loyalty rebate). It was built 1/4 and is due to arrive 1/18.

As far as I know the only vehicles the loyalty rebate coupon is not eligible on it is NOT valid on is Suburban, Tahoe, and Yukon.

I have been so carried away by the overall performance of my new truck that I had forgot the main reason I bought it. I've had my truck a week and have already used door # 4 a dozen times or more for practical reasons, not counting showing it off to my buddies. Next real big test is to load up all my grand children (3 out 5 in car seats) for a ride. Can you imagine what that was like in my 2 door X/C.....Thank you Lord!!!

I have been off the board for a few days but it ain't because I'm driving a new truck. I'm still waiting for me 2000 4X4 EC LB LT. As of now it is a 3dr. (ordered 9/15/99) I had much rather have a 4dr EC. The dealer said I can't change the original order. After what I've read here about the 4dr trucks hitting the ground, I'm wondering if my truck will be built as a 4dr. What do you think of my chances here? I'm thinking about canceling the first order and placing a new order for the same truck with 4drs. I would hate to cancel it if there is a chance it will have 4 rds after all.

After GM getting hammered so bad in the press (Motor Trend, Car&Driver, Off Road), GM has made the forth door standard equipment. Do not even know if three door models are being made any more? In Grand Rapids Michigan we have one dealer with 10 or more 1999 that they can't give away because like the rest of us people who are dishing out $30,000+ want the FORTH DOOR!

Just because GM makes the 4dr standard next month, don't expect the base price to remain the same as the 3dr. The base price will probably rise to match the current option price. If that is the case, you can be certain that GM will not give you a 4dr for the price of a 3dr. Bottom line, if you want a 4dr then cancel the existing order and get a new one. BTW if the dealer doesn't have a TPW on the 3dr then the order can still be changed. It is also possible that he is trying to locate one at another dealer ( this is very likely if 3dr are no longer being built). In fact, he may be planning to trade a 4dr when it arrives to another dealer to get you a 3dr. Wouldn't that be crap. He is giving you the run around. Take action.

Thanks for the post. I don't mind paying more for the 4dr. I can tell you as of last week, there were only two trucks like the one I ordered in the whole state of Texas. I won't settle for a truck that has less equipment than mine. You say they can change the order if no TPW? I was told different but I will believe you, a non GM person, more than anyone I've talked to at GM or the dealer. I'll go back and lean on the dealer AGAIN. Man, this is getting to be big mess. But, after reading the post from guys who have received their 4dr trucks, I ain't giving up. Old Z71 has the same last name as mine and I think we are related. I asked him to drive up for a visit. I think he is afraid that if I see his truck, he will come up missing and I will have a 4rd truck. ;<)))

I PLACED AN ORDER ON FRI. FOR AN LT 4DR 4WD. THE DEALER SAID THAT IT SHOULD GO IN ON TUESDAY AND I WOULD ONLY HAVE UNTIL FRIDAY TO MAKE ANY CHANGES. HE SAID BEFORE YOU COULD CHANGE THE ORDER UP UNTIL BUILD WEEK, BUT NOT ANYMORE.

if you don't have an order number yet, your truck is not going to be made a 3-dr. if you get a 3-dr, it's going to be a "very similar" one to your actual order, cuz the dealer's going to hunt for one like yours. if i was you, i'd tell the dealer to change it to a 4-dr or you're leaving. if he won't do it, call greg stancill at montgomery chevy in louisville, ky. he'll have the truck you want delivered to you. my truck is being built right now, i expect delivery the first week of feb. the longer you wait to adjust your order, the longer you'll wait to get your new truck. email me at kwerking@aol.com if you want details on my deal with greg. he's done right by me from the start. provided gm doesn't build me a lemon-truck, i would recommend greg stancill to anyone, over any other dealer...

From the sounds of the previous posts people believe that 3 door trucks are still being built to fill pre-existing orders. Is this a fact or are all trucks coming off the assembly line in every plant now 4 door? Has anyone who had a 3 door on order actually received a 4 door instead?

I have an order # but not a TPW, so I'm wondering if a 4 door will actually be subbed for my order because no more 3 doors are being built.

GM does not make life easy by this total lack of reliable info.

Most of us feel the 3dr. is not being built anymore, but that dealers will shuttle 3dr. trucks between them to fill any demand as best they can. If a dealer cannot show you a copy of the Vehicle Order Detail with the Vehicle Order Number and the TPW, then the 3dr. that he is talking about is not coming from the factory.

I just went to the Los Angeles auto show this past week and when I got to the Chevy display, they were showing their 3 door models. When I went to their info booth, the "factory rep" proceeded to tell me that I would not see any 4 dr models until April or May. I told her about the posts here from people who had received delivery on their 4dr order and she said it couldn't be true. I told her it seemed odd that they wouldn't have even a prototype of a model that is set to come out in production in April at an auto show in on of the countries largest cities. I guess they don't want people to know about the 4dr so they can sell all the 3dr models that are sitting in dealer inventories. I was happy to see that the GM display had a 4dr Sierra on display, although disappointed that you could only look from a distance. I am holding out a little longer to see if any problems arise from the first batch of 4drs. So far people seem to be happy with them.

I originally ordered my truck 3 Sep 99. After 2 weeks I heard about the 4 doors. I then had my dealer change my order from a 3 to 4 and color change from gray to pewter. No problem with the order change, very good/friendly salesman. I also ordered GMO. Ive had my 4dr, 1500, 5.3 Sierra now for 9 days, definitely worth the wait. Good luck on 3 or 4 door, just one factor in an awesome truck.

pkooistra, I just got home from the Detroit Auto Show and they had the 4 doors on the floor, come to think of it, I don't think there were any 3 doors to be found. Also got a chance to see the new Avalanche. It is going to be one sweet vehicle and if it was not over a year away, I might cancel the truck and buy an Avalanche. Got my $500.00 rebate notice in the mail today. Called the dealer and he said that they would honor it - No Problem.

Heard from dealer. Said our LT, 4 door 4x4 ex cab was made and has been shipped. Dealer said price increase of $135. That list is now $33,335. up from $33,210. when we placed the order on Oct 10th (order accepted 11/14). Anyone else heard that?? Also dealer said we could not get loyalty rebate because we gave dealer our '96 Chevy truch in trade early (10/14/99). They say we actually have to be in pocession of a GM auto at time of delivery. That sounds like bull....! We've just been waiting for our new truck to come in. Another dealer said all you had to do to get loyalty rebate was to have purchased a GM product in the past. Can anyone comment? Thanks.

Don't trust the dealer. You still have the right to walk away. It's kind of like a bait a switch. Even if it costs them $135 more, they should eat it. It's not like they had to do anything for this truck, i.e., no storage, no advertising, but they will try to charge you for those things.

If they won't give you the $500 'loyalty', ask him why, since you gave them the truck? I believe you should try to call GM, maybe while you're at the dealer even, and confirm that you should get it. The dealer may just try to add that to his profit.

Personally, I;d check out the $135. It may be legit. (Edmonds or Kelly BB). I'm not sure what the dealer has to gain by hassling the $500, tho. Doesn't GM credit him with $500 for the coupon. Isn't it the same as cash? I think it is just that he doesn't know the rules--could you believe a dealer being ignorant of GM policies??? I agree w/dropper, call GM from dealer. It should be honored. Let us know. I forsee myself in the same situation in a few weeks (TPW this week.) Thanks as always for the usefull info.

Called Chevy 800# today and they confirmed my LS 1500 4dr. was built on 1/13 (TPW was 1/10). So I expect it in Texas the 1st week of Feb. BTW the truck has 5.3L, auto, 3.73 locker, aluminum wheels and towing package. Order placed 11/24.

Has anyone seen their "Vehicle Order Detail" sheet yet?

The reason I ask? Well, today I received the detail sheet of the truck I ordered... I think. It ALMOST looks like the details of the truck I ordered, is a better description.

To better explain: I ordered a year 2000 1500 "LT" short-bed 4-door 4WD Silverado with UV8, QGC, Z71, E24, Z82, B71 and GT5 options. And this was October 1ST. Almost 4 MONTHS AGO!

The detail sheet contains too much info for me to post here, but this is the highlight:

"Model: CK15753-Silverado: 1500 Short Box, 4WD, Ext.Cab Pickup"

Now pay attention to this line.
"Pattern: 004774-LS Short Box 4WD 4th Door"

And it goes on to "Order Options", and list many, if not all, of the options that are extra for the LS but are standard for the LT, along with my personal extras listed above.

I just spoke to my dealer (its 8:10 pm my time)and he assures me he ordered an LT, and will verify the build info in the morning. Does this mean that GM built me an LS configured to LT specs, or is this how all LTs are configured? (Yeah Right!)

If this is just a built up LS, I'm not taken it! I ordered a freaken LT! If these Bozos think that they can pull this Sh-ugar, they can kiss my hairy Tushy! Believe me, if I find the dealer did this and tries to change the LS-LT Emblems, a lawsuit will be on them like white on rice!

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could supply a reasonable answer, and I sincerely recommend that everyone at least review their own Detail sheet!

I think I need some glycerin tablets.

I do not believe that there are any features that are contained on the LT that are not extra charge options on the LS model. I may be wrong on this, but if I'm right, all GM has to do is automatically select the LT option codes along with a single code that calls for LT emblems instead of LS and you have an LT. If this is the case, then there is nothing wrong or dishonest about this, it's still the same LT, and it probably makes their computer and parts inventories easier. If however there are LT features that cannot be had on the LS ( as an example, better insulation or larger brakes) then the dealer is wrong. I have a copy of my Vehicle Order Detail on my LS and it is correct, but this doesn't help you. Maybe someone else with an LT order can help more.

The leather seats on an LT are not the same leather you get with an LS. The LT has heated seats. That is the only difference I can think of between an LT and load LS.

Your detail sheet should show a discount for the LT package, otherwise, it is a loaded LS.

My LT is also on the way, was built on Tuesday. I ordered mine October 1. I don't know how you late orders all got in front of me, but I am getting my truck now so I won't hold it against you. Are you talking about the Vehicle Summary sheet that the dealer prints when you sit down and build the vehicle, or the invoice that comes with the vehicle? I think the key is getting the 1SC code as that is the LT. Of course check and make sure the dealer didn't take the LS emblem off and stick a LT emblem on instead. I'm not joking on that one. In my case I bought a vehicle and later the paint on the front fender faded differently than the rest of the car. When I confronted the dealer he said that some minor damage had occurred in shipping and had been repaired. He also said that he did not have to tell me about it when he sold it to me. I don't shop there anymore and now always ask if any repairs, mechanical or otherwise have been repaired prior to my taking delivery. Fortunately Chrysler more than compensated me for my troubles.

DETROIT (AP) - General Motors Corp. saw its earnings fall to $1.1 billion in the fourth
quarter, a decline of 32 percent, due to reduced U.S. truck sales and losses at its Hughes
electronics unit.

The world's largest automaker said it earned $1.86 a share, compared to $2.48 a share last year, when the company reported record quarterly earnings. The results beat Wall Street expectations.

Hopefully this will mean better deals this year on their trucks as this may be an indication that they are losing the battle in sales with Ford and Dodge. Regardless, this is a big hit to earnings that I am sure they will be wanting to change.

Even if an LS is fully loaded, it will lack the following features only available on an LT:

Heated seats with six way power, two position driver memory, power lumbar

I have no need for the items above so I ordered a fully loaded LS with leather buckets. It's about $500 cheaper.

I ordered the 6-way power in the 40-20-40 seats (I needed the extra seating for the kids). I was hoping it would include the two position driver memory, but it sounds like that was a pipe dream. If it includes it, I will post it.

That's great to know you will be getting the right vehicle and hopefully real soon. I agree that the customer service people do not have lots of information to share but that's probably because all of the computer systems are not linked between order entry, factory status and outside transporter service. When you mentioned VIN# are you referring to the 17+ digit number or just the Vehicle Order Number? If the VIN# exists then the vehicle truly exists. Is that VIN# on the copy of the dealer invoice/window sticker that you have? Again, it sounds like all is going to turn out ok.

Does anybody have any recent news on the start-up of production of 3/4 ton extended cabs with 4th door? My dealer says he thinks March and GM customer assistance person I spoke with early this week would only say "sometime in next 90 days".

Also, I got a "Extra Value Certificate" in the mail this week, offering either $500 off purchase price, or free basic maintenance service or free extended warranty. I guess this is the $500 coupon everybody's talking about. However, the fine print says you have to take delivery from dealer stock, which implies you can't use it on ordered vehicles. I haven't called my dealer about this yet. What have you folks been experiencing with this coupon - can I use on the 3/4 ton truck I ordered 2 weeks ago?

My dealer is willing to apply the coupon to my ordered vehicle, but it has to be "in stock" by 2/29 which isn't going to be a problem for me since it was built last week. The 2500's will be too late.

Read the fine print guys. It is not $500 off in addition to the deal you made, it is $500 off MSRP. I think some of you are going to be disappointed. Most people get better deals than that, I hope, without a $500 certificate. Good luck.

My letter states the following, "In addition to your Supplier Discount, you can take advantage of great regional incentives". And latter it states, "Plus, I've enclosed a GM Extra Value Certificate to add on top of eligible GM regional incentives". So yes, the $500 is in addition to other discounts or incentives, not just MSRP.

Quoting from the included cover letter, it says "Get an extra $500 toward the retail purchase or lease of an eligible new and unused GM vehicle". By "retail" I guess that does mean MSRP, but all the posted messages seem to indicate folks are in fact getting an additional $500 off whatever deal they actually make.

I did read more of the fine print on the back of the coupon and it does say "Deliveries after February 29 are not eligible", so I guess I'm hosed.
