Stay cool. Ray and Kyle are implying that 'bugging' them will get your build date on fast track. No way. You contact a customer service person who puts your order # into the computer and tells you what is the latest info. Yelling, crying or bribery will get you nowhere.
Just sit back, relax and it will all happen. Phoning once a week will keep you on track -- good luck.

"Bugging" I call it being an informed & proactive buyer, nine times out of ten I know more than the dealer can tell me about my order thru my calling customer assistance, you are, however, right about "fast track" the calling does not get you anything any quicker but there is some satisfaction in "knowing" whats going on as a consumer.
TPW updates are made on weekly basis that's why I suggested Monday/Friday calls to GM.

I ordered a 2500 Silverado 4-door on October 1,1999. The factory hasn't accepted my order, but was told that they will give my dealer his allocation on the 1st of March. I had called GM and they are going to send me a check for $500 after I take delivery and the dealer wrote and complained too. So, in addition, GM is going to give me and extended warrantee coverage. I don't expect delivery until the end of April or beginning of May. Hey, it takes nine months to have a child, so I am just considering this another "pregnancy" that I have to go through.

......look at it. I waited 5 months for mine & had to go thru 2 dealerships before I found one who had the "allotment", without it there is NO order placed. The second dealer delivered in 63 days start to finish. Picked it up this past Friday afternoon & am luvin it. Now for the accessories!

It was well worth the wait!

I've learned a great deal reading all of your comments. I'm going to place an order for mine very soon. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting the best price for a new Chevrolet truck. I appreciate your response and expertise. Thanks~

As was said before, to many others: research the heck out of the vehicle you want, print out the invoice and msrp info for the vehicle equiped the way you want it, and head to the dealer(s) with paperwork in hand.
If you go with "invoice + x" where x is $200 or $500 or whatever, be aware that the invoice may go up, for reasons such as Ad Fees, vehicle or option cost increase, Doc fees, Title Fees, or other hidden extras. Ask about the other hidden charges up front. Get a "Firm" price on paper, not an "Invoice +". Have him figure out everything for you up front, including tax, title, et al, and say that the vehicle equiped with "whatever" options will cost exactly y dollars. Period. It makes it harder for the dealer to try and add "Forgotten" fees that HE would say are in the "Invoice" portion of your equation, when it's time to pay.
Everything you order now will have a determined price, compared to about 4 months ago when the fourth door cost was extra and assumed to be like $220, but is now icluded in the increased vehicle cost as standard.

    Good Luck!

Where abouts do you live? If you live in the Pacific Northwest, I know of a dealer that you can order a new Silverado from. His standard policy is to sell new GM vehicles at $218 over invoice, which includes the always elusive dealer "prep" cost. See http://www.usautosales.com/

I'll be ordering a new 2001 Silverado Z-71 later this year through him.

    Best of luck to ya.

I Live in Ruidoso N.M. I'm out scouting for the best deal. I had one dealer tell me he would meet or beat the best deal I found. I wonder how far I have to travel for the best deal for him :)
I think the biggest rip off is trying to trade in the truck I have now, 95 white step side mint!! condition with 65,000 miles. I don't let the dealer know I'm trading until he gives me the best price he can, but then he tries to really take advantage of me when he finds out I'm actually trading. "Quote" Well mam we can't give you that for it.I'm not trading 5,000 under the sell value! So thats what I'm having to deal with now.I'll wait until I can get a good price for my trade in or sell it myself.....Thanks for your help, I will look into it.

selling it out right? I bet you could get a much better price than trading it in. Stick a for sale sign on it when your ready and park it in a mall lot by roadside for the day you'll get some interested callers I'm sure.

I have never traded a vehicle in always sold it privately myself.

Do you plan on ordering a new truck or purchasing one off of a dealer's lot?

It is rare that you will ever get a good price on a trade-in. Remember, the dealer has to turn around a sell it to someone else at or near the bluebook price. Save yourself several thousands of dollars and go clean up the truck really good (inside, outside, and engine compartment) and then stick a For Sale sign in it. Know what your trucks bluebook price is to determine the selling price.

Only problem with this is that when you sell your truck yourself, you will have to have another vehicle to drive until your new Silverado comes in. If your 95 truck is your only vehicle, well then trading it in may be your only option. If you trade it in, once again, know what the bluebook price is and try to get within a couple thousand dollars of it.

When it comes to selling, trading in, or buying a new vehicle, remember knowledge is power!

I'm ordering it. I've read so many comments of the ordering process, that If I do sell my truck (myself) I'll be out of a vehicle for some time.Especally since I work out of my truck,Also one of you mentioned that your getting a 2001? When will they be ready to order? May I ask what a good price of ordering a new 2000 Chevy with all the works would be? If you don't want to post it, just use my email and send it direct. Thanks for all your help... Carla

Some disadvantages to selling on your own are that you have to pay taxes on the full purchase price rather than the difference price. On a typical 97 truck traded on a 2000 this can mean an additional $1100 plus in taxes ( depending on your state/local tax rate) which mean you must get at least an addition $1100 for your truck over what the dealer offers for trade just to break even. Also selling yourself you have the risk of dealing with unscrupuless buyers who are just looking for a joy ride. Depending on the vehicle it can be more or less seceptable to this. For instance a late model vette is more likely to attract joy riders than a 4 door sedan. ... Rich

I plan on ordering my 2001 Silverado sometime towards the end of July 2000. Some dealers will take your order as early as May. But actual build date for the vehicle probably won't be until the end of summer.

I plan on ordering a 2001 Silverado LS Z-71, 4th door, 5.3 L, 3.73 axle, Locker, auto, 265's, tow package, Autotrac, fog lights, deep tint glass, slider, tow hooks, ....well basically a loaded LS for around $27,800 including "destination" and "prep" charges.

To keep it simple, it will be Dealer Invoice price plus $218 (for "prep") and that's it. Very simple and very painless. The hardest thing about it is deciding which exterior color I want.

Try www.webcarbook.com/index.htm or Carwizard either one to research your pickup. That is the site that most dealers that I have talked to use to line out a pickup with MSRP and Invoice. It is right on the money...Used Vehicles are listed there also...Most dealers use NADA Book to find trade-in. Which doesn't allow for anything extra hardly. And sucks I think....

Find out if your dealer will do an "In and Out" on your old truck. If so, then a few weeks before your truck is due to arrive, find a serious buyer and then do the transaction along with the new truck. The dealer may charge you $100 for the "In and Out", but you get the tax benefit on the new truck for whatever you sell the old truck for.

Anyone know the difference in ride for each optional suspension package on the Silverado?
I ordered the HD Suspension so I could get the factory trailering package. I specified the skid plates also. It is my understanding that the z71 package also includes a high capacity air cleaner and taller shocks. Does the z71 ride firmer on paved roads than the HD Suspension, and or does the HD Suspension ride firmer (harsher) on paved roads than the regular suspension?
  • leathal02leathal02 Member Posts: 114
is probably the stiffest you can get with i think 48mm shocks
  • snitselasnitsela Member Posts: 47
I understood the taller shocks to allow more suspension travel when off-roading. My question is do the taller shocks, as in the HD Suspension package and z71 package make for a stiffer ride on a paved road?

Leathal has said yes, what about the rest of you?

I heard some good things on these shocks. They are suppose to ride smooth on rough roads, but still be firm when cornering or braking. I was wondering if anyone has tryed these? If so, how are they.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
you describe. Smooth on rough roads and great on cornering. A bit expensive at $ 65 - $70 each. I wouldn't give mine up made a world of difference on my '00 Silverado.

I went to buy a set of these shocks, but they don't list them in the catalog for 2000 models. In 1999 Chevy made a C/K model and a Silverado. So I'm not sure if there is a difference in shocks. What part # did you get? Thanks much
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
there is an application guide found at the following link:

    http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/index.html

I believe the part number is
    33010 front - 34010 rear 2WD
    33012 front - 34012 rear 4WD
The model year 1999 is listed alone (new body style) versus 1988-1998 (old body style). You could also confirm this when ordering which is what I did. Good luck!

I saw one on the I-405 with paper plates yesterday.I sped up to check it out and to see if it said 2500 on the door, and also to verify it was a 4-door Silverado. It was white and had paper tags. Some lucky sole is about to be shocked.I know I was to see it.My dealer told me it could be months before he saw one.Anybody else spotted one or am I the last person to see one driving around? What a great day it was yesterday. To finally see this truck and to find self service reg.gas for 1.59.in so.cal.It really might be paradise out here! Eric

I have a four door LT 2500 it is a beautiful truck. I ordered it on Feb 21 and took delivery on April 1. As far as I know there will not be any on the lot-all the 2500's are customer orders. Chevrolet is diverting dealer orders to customers to clear the back log. The LT is a great truck. The bucket seats are great, it has a great stereo, built in compass and thermometer. It drives great-its a luxury Suburban pickup. Its big but at 5,523 pounds its 900 pounds lighter than an F-250 v10 and about 400 pounds lighter than the dodge. I got it for a great price. $500 over invoice.

I just picked up my new 2000 4 door silverado yesterday. I also ordered the Z-85. Everything I read said the Z-71 was very rough riding. The Z-85 is definitely firmer then the ride in my 1990 silverado- but not in a negative way. Handles well-just feel the bumps alittle more. Paul

I'm scheduled to receive a new 4X4 1/2 ton Silverado LS next week. I was informed that it was produced in Texas. I thought these trucks were produced in Ontario, Canada. Has anyone heard about the quality of trucks produced in Texas (no offense intended, just curiosity)?

a fire in Michigan plant where most of them are built. I would expect delays in production and most built for a while will be out of either Ontario or Texas.

Hello gang I'm new to this site. I just bought a new 2000 Chevy Z71 off road package LS and it had Firestone A/T tires they were 245/75R/16. I decided I would rather have a bigger tire to take up all that wheel well space. I put 265/75R/16 BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A's they made the ride much better. Has anyone else experienced a noticeable change like this from tire change out. Also the tire shop Discount Tire said that the Firestone tires were really out of balance. I only have 1k miles on truck. Thanks, Kevin....

My truck was built in March Ontario plant. Its a Ext Cab 4 dr really I am enjoying it. I have noticed a little play in the drive line a couple of times only, anyone else experiencing this?
  • gotribe1gotribe1 Member Posts: 81
If you exchanged on/off road tires for AT tires it would make quite a difference. That isn't what your post said though. It sounds like you exchanged AT for AT but only increased the size. You would probably get a slightly better ride with the larger tires. Did you get the computer reprogrammed for the change in tire size? I don't know exactly what needs to be done, but from what I have read on this forum it is something that needs to be done. I don't understand your second post. What do you mean by drive line play? Are you referring to the steering?

Has anyone noticed how well their door align on their truck. Mine is terrible. Had it back to the dealer 3 times, still not good. I am going to have the area service manger for Chevrolet look at it for the second time. Has anyone had the same problem? E-mail with your comments. ejd71@hotmail.com

My back doors are perfect, the passenger front is good, but the drivers door is too "high"and it sticks up high enough to easily see it.I won't worry about it,until if,or when,I have some other problem, then I'll say something about it.
I have no air leaks or funny noises like some people seem to have.
  • thomascthomasc Member Posts: 25
Check your hinges. The door hinges on my '97 3-door were welded to the frame. The alignment was terrible but the dealer wouldn't do anything about it--they said drilling the hinges and installing the bolt kit was too much effort for a simple alignment problem. If the hinges are still welded, good luck!

I was kicking myself because I noticed the alignment problem when I bought the truck. Silly me, I thought it could be taken care of under warranty.

    Good luck!

Hello all. I have a 2000 LS Ext- Cab with bad alignment on the drivers side door and the tailgate. I'm not sure if the door is bent, or if was just installed wrong. On mine, if you look at the bottom edge, along the sill, it tapers in about 3/8 of a inch towards the front. But up the vertical edge,( the side with the latch), it protrudes about 1/8 of a inch at the little "V" in the door. Took it back to the dealers body shop and they told me there is no adjustment in the hinges. Same deal with the tailgate.

Also, does anyones steering squeal when you turn to the left? They still can't fix that one.
And, does your windshield motor seem like it's loud? I can hear mine whirring quite easily, I haven't been able to compare it to another.

My truck was built on 02/23/00 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. The only thing wrong with the truck was that the driver's rear door was out of alignment. One trip to my dealership & it was fixed & has been perfect since!

I'm in the market for a new Silverado 1500
extended cab, short bed, and am looking for advice
    on the engine choice.
This truck will be used primarily as a passenger
vehicle, with no towing use. My dad had a 96 with
the V6, which returned him mileage consistently in
the low 20s, with fine performance.
I like the new V8s, and am concerned that the V6
may hurt resale, but like it's higher potential
mileage figures. I plan on selecting the 3.42 axle
    ratio.
    All opinions welcome!
  • nrd525nrd525 Member Posts: 109
I personally wouldn't even think of getting the V6.In a standard cab,~maybe~,if the price was really cheap, but not likely. It's just too small to easily pull around all that weight.I have driven a 95 or 96 SB reg cab a couple of times, for short periods, and it was annoyingly slow to me,and I would never buy a V6 full size truck,an S10,yeah,but it's no rocket.
My 4x4 4dr Sierra SB 5.3 3.73 just turned over 2000 miles, has never gotten below 15 MPG,and on one fillup got almost 17.My Jeep Grand Cherokee got 13.2 ave.,with the 4.0 six!
    My advice,drive all three,and get the 5.3!
  • rcoosrcoos Member Posts: 167
    kkempen,

Go with the 5.3 engine. It will cost you a little more to order it, but it is well worth it. Only about 1 mpg difference between the 5.3 & the 4.8. Remember the extented cab is about 500-600 pounds heavier then the regular cab & if you are hauling extra people, you will appreciate the extra horsepower.
    rcoos

p.s. this motor is like a rocket....you won't be disppointed!!!

June, 2, 2000, I purchased a 2000 Silverado, 6L, auto, 2WD, LB, with the HD tow package. I paid $27,000 for it through fleet sales at a Lou Grubb dealership in Glendale, AZ. After breaking in the engine (approx 620 miles), I left Arizona for Florida towing a car. My tow load was approx 6000 lbs. While in Kansas I had the entire drive line dealer serviced with fluids ($250.) in accordance with owners manual requirements. I dropped off the car in Tennessee, drove to FL then back to AZ. The truck's pulling capability and cruising with load is outstanding. However, the truck developed two unacceptable noises on the trip.
PROBLEMS: The engine (6L) has a ticking noise at all RPMs with and without load. The sound is similar to a noisy lifter, exhaust leak, or possibly a bad injector. It is very pronounced at startup, then fades as the engine warms up. But, it doesn't completed go away. Also, under acceleration I hear a tinny vibrating shrill coming from the transmission only through first gear, with and without load, any engine temp. I haven't taken the truck in yet because of the holiday, when I do I will submit the fix here. Honestly, I have little confidence in dealership repairs, especially warranty work.
After logging 7400 mile in 3.5 weeks I have other observations to make, some minor:
-Gas mileage sucks! But I knew that from the get-go.
-The rear plastic hub-cap lugs tend to loosen after long highway runs. I just snugged them down and check them often.
-The 2WD (tires with E rating) will get stuck in wet grass or soft sand, especially without load. Trust me, it's embarrassing!
-The convenient cup holder vibrates a lot, drinks require lids.
-The cab is roomy, and the back seat has leg room. Who cares! I don't sit in the back.
-I have decided that I don't like the 4 DR cab. Although a convenience, it appears to lack durability, and prone to future leaks. Those doors are a pain in the butt in a parking lot too, especially parked next to another vehicle when your loading or unloading the back seat. If I was an engineer at GM, I would loose the two back doors, keep the big cab size, and increase the size of the the two front doors.
Considering all this I am still satisfied (not thrilled) with the truck.
QUESTION? Have others experienced similar problems?

Does anyone know how much a new Silverado 4-door LS should be discounted due to hail damage received while on the dealer lot? How much does the dealer receive from insurance and/or Chevrolet? I am wondering what a fair discount should be. One dealer is offering one for $21,900 that prices at $26,618 MSRP. (without the damage repaired).

    Thanks

I am happy with my 00 ext. cab 3.42 with the 5.3 with 2600 miles on it. I would recommend the 3.42 and 4.8 to you since you are not going to be doing any towing or trailering. You will get better gas mileage. My combination has plenty of power and get up and go. I decided to order the 3.42 for better gas mileage and the 5.3 for additional pulling power if I ever decide to pull a fifth wheel trailer on vacation. It's impossible to have the max gas mileage and max pull in the same truck. I ordered what would work best for me. If I thought I would never pull a heavy fifthwheel across country, then I would have gone with the 4.8 in combination with the 3.42 ratio. The 4.3 did not interest me. I think the V6 will have much less attractrion on a resale, but there will not be much difference between the 4.8 vs 5.3 V8 and you will save the added cost of the 5.3 which it sounds like you do not need its power. Again, I am quite pleased with my truck's combination. Hope this helps. Bob

and I am looking for advice. I just put a deposit on a 2000 GMC 4wd 4 door short bed W/all the goodies. I have a '97 Chevy K1500 Silverado w/ a 350, 3.42 gears, the 13 bolt locking rear, and 6600 gvw. My wife drives it primarily, and the '97 tends to be pretty stiff with the heavy springs, shocks, etc..
It only has 21k miles on it w/ almost no problems.
The new truck is a Z71 w/a 5300, locking 3.73 rear, and Auto track.
