Anyway, I am going to Tampa to talk to a high volume dealer that has 12 on order and will be arriving the last week of Nov./first week of Dec. (HE SAYS HOPEFULLY).
volume dealer that has 12 on order<<
If the dealer has 12 on order, do you just get to pick one of the 12 already configured? Or can you fully customize it? Also, looking at the SLE ext. cab 5.3 , it appears about $300 cheaper than the Chevy LS 5.3 auto w/ ac. Any comments on GMC v. chevy? Thanks, scott.
The big bummer...two of the dealers don't have anything close to what I want. They either have graphite interior or no tow package. I find it hard to believe how many people here in Florida like black interiors..they look great, but man do they raise the inside temp, and the a/c has a hard time chilling things since the black dash stays hot for a while. I guess that's what sun shades are made for, but still not for me.
I can't find out till Monday what the other dealer has coming...keeping my fingers crossed.
GMC vs. Chevy...
For similar optioned vehicles, the GMC is always more expensive. Not alot, but more than the Chevy. Their standard features and option packages are different, so it takes a little work to do a direct comparison.
Personally, I like the front end of the Chevy, but I like the interior cloth quality of the GMC. The GMC has grown on me alittle. It's truely one of those personal taste things.
If you are serious on buying a truck, do the Auto-by-tel thing. The dealer they hook you up with is almost sure to be a "high volume dealer". Atleast you will know who might have trucks on order.
Good Luck!!

Dealers are doing loss leaders now, due to inventory on the lot over three months old. I.E. one has a z71 4x4 MSRP of $31k going for $4K under MSRP.
Cant find green trucks out here. Dealers say nobody bought them last year, so they wont order them this year. I have a green boat, so at least I will have an uncommon color. I am going to order my four door tonite. Dealer says he has an allocation, I had to prod him to find that out. Hopefully I am early enuff to customize it.Thanks,scott.
I was told by my dealership that something should be known by November 1st/99. If anyone has heard from their dealership on taking build dates on 4 Door Ext. Cabs please let me know.

You can only order the fourth door in the LT (1SD) model. I will know my build date tommorrow, & can hardly wait!
All customer orders will be taken care of first, so don't expect to see any four door pickups sitting at the dealers lots until around late Feb. or March 2000.
your mpg will suffer and wear and tear on your engine will be greater due to higher rpm. I'am going to wait, the 5.3 has enough power already.

I had a choice of either the 3.73 or 4.10 ratio. My dealership was told by factory reps, to select the 4.10 ratio with the 5300. It will give you better low end torque with a same mpg loss (1 mile per a gallon).
If you have any questions call GM Canada at 1 800 GM DRIVE & ask to speak to the marketing dept. They are very helpful.

Do you know what tire size that was base on? If it was the 245's, putting 265's on should almost put you back in the range of the 3.73's
This is for the 5300 with P265 (Firestones or Goodyears) depending on what the factory has on the floor.
Has anyone ordered the FW1(Ride & Handling Shock Absorber damping) with the Z71 pkg ???
Odenmeyer: I ordered my truck 9-22-99 with 3.73 gear ratio and as far as I know was accepted. I am suppose to get a call from the salesman today on the build date.
delivery of their truck and I hope it's me.
He also said that no 4 door have been built.
I placed my order about a month ago.
Please keep posted and I will do the same.
I am not sure if that is correct.

I have had a 2000 LT 4x4 L/B X/C 3 Door ordered for two months. I am considering canceling that order and wait for a 4 door X/C Yesterday I ask the sales dude if he knew anything about the 4th door option. He read me a letter he had received from GM.. They are holding up the 4 door X/C's because they are not through with testing. He said that for customers who had an order in for a 4 door truck, they would build the truck with 3 doors instead. Now that SUCKS!!!
Don't shoot me. Just put your own amount of value to what he told me. He said it was from the factory.

I spoke with two GM dealers today, both admitted to me that I would not be able to get an allotment for a 4-door Sierra 2500 (or really any 2500, for that matter) until March. That would mean May or June until I could get the truck I want from GM. Talk about dropping the ball, that is just too long to reasonably ask people to wait for a truck that is not that much better than the competition. Especially for people like me, those with no brand loyalty. Will they ever stop shooting themselves in the foot? Oh well, I will be happily rumbing down the road with my quad, getting better mileage with more power than I could in the Sierra.
You know, all these new trucks cost so darn much, I don't see why we shouldn't have a desire for all the convenience that should be available. This next truck will be my only vehicle, just like my current truck. I would like my next truck to be BETTER than my current one. And like I've said before, people like you sound like Dana Carvey as the Bitter Old Man on SNL, "When I was young we didn't have doors, we had to chew our way through the glass and drag our bloody bodies through the window on to the seats, which were just coiled wire with no uphostery, AND WE LIKED IT THAT WAY!".
Well, if I'm driving through the desert and see a covey of birds, I want to be able to get out of the truck, reach around and open the door, let my dog out and get out my shotgun, and start after 'em before they flush. Not as easy to do if the door is on the other side. (just one example) But mainly, it's all around convenience that I know would bother me if I didn't get it on a new truck. My current truck has been great, but it still bothers me after nearly 3 years that a couple options I ordered did not get on the truck. Face it, GM are idiots for putting just three doors on the truck when they had to know that eventually they would be putting four on it.
Besides, like Rich said, THERE ARE BASICALLY NO 3/4-TONS AVAILABLE, 3 OR 4 DOORS.
hahaha
I guess I am not lazy or whatever, and btw, I am very young, so don't call me old
I am happy with my 3 doors, but if it was availalbe i would get a 4th, but its not, and im not concerned about it, because i dont ride back there for one
and since i am a country boy, if i was to haul/carry something, i would put it on the back, unless it was valubles of such things
I am sure it would be convienant, well i know it would be, but i wouldn't make my decision on a door
The most important factor for me, would be the engine. Thats the mother of all things about a truck to me
Regardless, the engine is most important to me also. But the overall utility plays into my decision. I already like the cummins best (as far as the engine), although it will cost more than the Sierra 2500 (about $1,500). Although the back seat is better in the Sierra, the Ram's 4th door might override that (especially since I won't be riding back there much). So the lack of the 4th door pushes me closer to the Ram/Cummins.
Of course this is becoming a mute point, now that I wouldn't be able to get a 3 or 4-door Sierra 2500 till nearly 1/2 way through next year. The lack of supply is the biggest choke GM is doing now.
Love that old man routine, you nailed it!!!!
Would all you people quit buying 3/4 tons, i was thinking about test driving one, but i probably won't even find one to do that with...
I ordered a '00 LT, X/C, S/B, 4DR last week. My dealer is not saying a word because he claims he just doesnt know.
Tell us more...when you ordered, when your order was accepted, etc...
Now the wait begins! There is a long process from ordering the truck to building & shipping it. My dealership hopes that without any delays/ problems in the new four doors, it will be built before the two week X-mas brake.
1)GM receives the order from the dealership.
2)GM checks for any possible delays (like holds on certain options).
3)If any problems, GM contacts the dealership & asks if the customer wants to wait for any holds.
4)once the customer has accepted the modified order, GM puts it on a build waiting list. (You can alter options right up to the time of being assigned a build date)
5) GM puts your order on a build date list, your truck is built & shipped.
I had to go through this process with my truck order. I wanted the FW1 ride control but was told that it is on hold. If I wanted to alter the order, I could get it on the build waiting list. That is where my order is now. I was told to contact my dealer at the beginning of December to find out how far along my truck is. I live in British Columbia, I don't know if orders from Canada are handled differently from US orders.
