The going price for 87 is now $2.85. My wife filled up yesterday at East Coast for $2.71. Today, Kangaroo is "only" $2.75 and the Chevron next to it is $2.79.

Diesel at Sheetz is still $2.79, 6 cents below 87.

I am a bit surprised over here. Gas is on average about $3.13 for unleaded regular. I found it at one station for $3.09. My rental Trailblazer got 17.8 MPG on the first 100 miles today. I wanted to make sure it was full. So it may be better than that depending on how much was in the tank when I picked it up.
    PS
It is gorgeous sunshine and 84 degrees today. Just went snorkeling with the turtles.

i love it when diesel costs the same or less than 87 octane.
i've actually been buying mostly 91+ octane lately, for about $2.97. MA/NH. bring the heat!

Wow, it's been a long time since I saw diesel and regular be the same. I remember a few years ago when diesel was $0.30 to $0.40 cents cheaper. :surprise:

I was up in Millersville, Maryland, and got gas for my truck at an Enroy station for something like $2.859 per gallon, for 89. 87 was "only" 2.779. There was a WaWa just down the street advertising the same price.

Back in my neck of the woods, I think about the cheapest 87 runs is $2.899, while 89 is around $3+. Oddly, I've seen some stations where Diesel is cheaper than 87 octane.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
3.31 for regular, 3.49 for premium. I forget the 89 octane, but I see the differential changed, which makes no sense as usual.

I am going on a little road trip in a few days (only a couple hundred miles)...maybe I should try to hyper-mile the E55....but I doubt I will have the self control.

I just returned from a weekend in Roseburg, Oregon and regular gas prices were pretty consistent in the $3.29 to $3.35 range. You weinies back east don't realize how good you've got it with your sub-$3.00 gas. :P

SE Arizona, town of Willcox, we are ranging from $2.86/gal to $3.17/gal for 87 no-lead. The $2.86 belongs to the Mustang ghastly station and the $3.17/gal belongs to the Standard Chevron.

I just cashed in my Giant Stores rewards points (local supermarket chain). You can select 10% of shopping order or for every 100 point you have you can has $0.10 taken off your per gallon price. I had enough points to take $2.50 off per gallon. I love only paying $0.25 per gallon, too bad this was a one time shot.

I guess us in the Chi-town areas aren't weenies since we jumped from the $2.999 to the $3.159 for regular fuel.

I got lucky as my fill-up today at the usual place was only $2.929 :shades: . Everyone else (Shell/Mobil/BP/Speedway) jumped yesterday afternoon from $3.029 average to $3.159. I was expecting to pay at least $3.029 as my usual spot is always a dime to fifteen cents lower. I hate to think what it is in the city, particularly downtown Chicago
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
In looking at my records from last year and current I didn't pay in the $2.90/gal range for fuel until June 19th. Looking back over the month of April, it pretty much paralleled June of 2006. From example, on April 9th I paid $2.799. Last year my area didn't hit $2.719 until June 10th. Over the next few weeks this years' price stayed roughly the same, with last June's prices catching up to be a few cents more than what I paid today, $2.929 today versus $2.959 last June 19th & 26th. about 2 months

Comparing the other stations' fuel prices of $3.159 on average, this area didn't hit that amount until July 12th 2006., about 2 months.

So we're running about 2 months ahead of schedule, what gives? :confuse:

Any of you notice this as well in your areas?
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
I filled up May 9th last year and it was $3.39 per gallon in San Diego. As of yesterday the Costco station I use is back down to $3.18. They were up to $3.31 before I left for Hawaii. I would say it parallels last years pricing in So CA.

    PS
Gas here on the Big Island is averaging about $3.17 per gallon as of yesterday. That is cheaper than the San Diego average of over $3.31 per gallon.

Who's going to revolt and how ???? Unless something is done at a governmental level the CEO's of the oil cartel are going to make sure they make enough money to retire billionaire's since being a multi-millionaire is no longer good enough compensation for oil executives.

Well I Paid $2.92 at Walley World around noon. I might have to get another gift card to save a few extra cents at the pump as I would of only paid $2.90. ;) Did I just say "ONLY" :surprise: Gas around town here in Dumas was $2.95 at the few stations I saw. I'm sure it was more expensive on the other side of town. I had to go picket and slop prices in Amarillo, were a eye popping $3.09 a gallon. I only paying $2.92 in Dumas, made me feel a little better. My god when are we going to get some relief ? I'm ready for gas price caps or something and if any executive creates shortages they should be throwin' in prison.

Rocky, there are a lot more billionaires selling you computers and software than oil. I do not see any oil billionaires in the top 25 of the list. The retired head of Exxon is not a billionaire. It used to be mostly oil men on the richest Americans list when we produced most of our own oil. No more Gettys or Rockefellers on the top of the list. Now 5 of the richest people have gotten wealthy selling us crap from China. Your buddies at Wally World.

Oil is a commodity and subject to the rules of trade. The big advantage to this high priced oil is more exploration is being done. Companies like Exxon and BP would like to sell more at $60 a barrel. They are happy selling it at $40 per barrel.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
Well I read somewhere the Exxon-Mobil CEO could be worth a billion dollars afer all his retirement pays out which included a lot of stock. :surprise:

  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
Do you think he put any less time into making Exxon what it is than Paul Allen or Steve Ballmer working at Microsoft? By many corporation standards he was way under paid. He is wealthy for sure. He is not a billionaire. People get rich off of stock every day. I think you are pointing a finger at the wrong people. Oil executives are no more over paid than Auto company or tennis shoe company executives. And especially sports and entertainment people that produce NOTHING that benefits the nation.

Just checked the highest gas price for this area using "gas buddy" and it is $3.05 here in Dumas for the highest price. It is unusaul for Dumas, to be cheaper than Amarillo. :surprise:

    Rock,

They need to retire as billionaires - they need money to put cheeseburgers on their BK Whoppers!! Eating a plain Whopper is so multi-millionaire-ish!!

Thanks for the heads-up on fuel prices. I may be down there, well the Houston area and then on to McAllen / Brownsville area anyway, at the end of the month.

P.S. 94' Ultra has left the merket in Penn. ? :surprise:

Apparently. I went out to the Spring Carlisle meet two weeks ago. Real Ultra 94 was found at the PA Turnpike rest stop close to the Harrisburg East exit last year. This year it is conspicuously absent. Good God, maybe we'll soon have that 85-Octane swill?

I filled up yesterday and it cost me $91.00. My tank holds 26 gallons maximum. The week before that it cost me $80.00 and the week before that it cost me $75.00 to fill up. I keep a gas mileage record and you would be amazed at how much the gas has gone up in just 4 months, over a $1.00 per gallon in 4 months.

I had at least 2 gallons if not more left in my tank when I filled up yesterday. The gas pump said it took over 26 gallons, and it still was not completely filled up? How can this be? The math does not add up.

It's bad enough that we have to pay these outrageous prices of $3.60+ a gallon for the past couple of months, but to have the stations rip us off and tell us we are getting more than we actually are, is just down right WRONG.

I asked the attendant when they last had their meters on their pumps checked and calibrated? She said last month. I asked her then how in the world could the pump say that my Tahoe took over 26 gallons when the tank only holds 26? And that's only if the tank was completely out of fuel and then filled up to the brim. She just nodded her head and said, uh I don't know!

I wish that I knew who to talk to about this because it has to be illegal. Imagine how much the gas station is making under the table. This was at the ARCO right next to Hwy 14 on West Palmdale Blvd., Palmdale CA.

Example: They are saying that they sold you 26 gallons, but in reality they only sold you 24 gallons. So they have 2 gallons left over and also charged you for 2 gallons that you did not get. Now lets make those 2 gallons 500 gallons a day. This is not only a lot but it is also a felony.

It's to bad that the District Attorney in Palmdale CA hasn't got the balls to do anything about this. Or maybe there's some kind of kick back going on. Palmdale has grown from approximately 60K to over 130k in population just in the past decade. That also means that more roads, houses, schools, etc. need to be built see where I'm going with this. Someone has to pay and if they can’t pass yet another bill to tax us more, well then they figured out another way to get our money. Now imagine that 75% of approximately 200 gas stations are doing this. So multiply 500 gallons a day time 150 stations = $75,000.00 a day is being ripped off. I can not prove any of this other than what I said happened to me yesterday when I filled up. I did get a receipt and would love to see them squirm their way out of this one.

Wow, imagine if!, the war has to be paid for and it is costing billions. Are they really taking the money from the social security? Don't even get me going on that one. Or are they doing like I suggested the City of Palmdale CA is doing, except on a larger scale across the country? This would add up to billions we all over paid for gas.

Well maybe someone might read this and then it might get passed on and eventually get to the right person or the wrong person. :confuse:
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
Two questions. Are you sure the Tahoe tank is only 26 gallons? How did you know you had 2 gallons left in it? If yout think the pump ripped you off, there should be some state weights and measures commission to notify.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
    Johnny4,

I saw something like this years ago on Dateline.

Phillips and another person went around to different gas stations, I believe out-east but may have been west coast, and found the same thing. They found stations were grossly overcharging people by 2 ~ 3 gallons, or the pumps were set to jump by 10 ~ 30 cents. It all started when a gentleman kept gas records for his minivan, went to fill-up and noticed that the pump registered 22 gallons, though his tank was only 18 and he had about a 1/4 tank of fuel left. Same as you he asked what happened, attendant said they didn't know, the shrugged-up shoulders. He called, complained, found others with the same problem and Dateline picked it up from there. What was happening was that most people were just paying attention to the dollar amount, say buying $10 or $20 bucks worth, instead of looking at the actual gallons. So the stations were cheating people all day / every day.

Long story short, in every instance the stations were gouging people, with the pumps registering a certain amount of gallons when in fact less was pumped, or if the right amount of gallons were pump, the price didn't match.

$3.16 and $3.19 today on the stores I saw on my Segway ride to work.

Average for the city is $3.04

Have not noticed less driving and have not noticed people slowing down.

I guess we are adapting/accepting these prices, which makes me mad.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
I can tell you from the last 3 years of high prices in San Diego. The only thing different is people complain about the price then speed off to no where. I am sure it impacts the market on vehicles, not to where I see any less big lifted PU trucks.

I guess we're waiting for a hurricane to hit to have an excuse for raising prices. So the best we can do now is that there's a refinery in Indiana with trouble doing the switchover to the EPA mandated summer gasoline blends. Wouldn't it be better just to have one summer blend that all areas use if they're not using real fuel. It seems that these areas having different blends keeps causing a problem.

Since last Thursday, daily gas prices.

    $2.85
    $2.84

That is a very good point. I believe one of the lawsuits between the EPA and CARB is over gasoline formulation.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,675
Supposedly the tight, high price market here is due to a BP refinery in Indiana. I assume they supply Chicago and Detroit with whatever special blend each requires.

Do I recall correctly that after Hurriane Katrina there was discussion about how each major city required a different blending of fuels? St. Louis was one. That was when the government suspended the requirements for all the special fuels to expedite refinery efficiency and delivery.

Of course a couple of new refineries 20 years ago would have helped. But the politicians and green groups don't want new refineries built.
