Question #1- I am looking to install an additional set of fog lamps on my 2003 Limited 4Runner. I currently have a Wagg front bumper guard which I'm planning on installing the lamps on. I would like to avoid drilling any holes in the firewall and I thought I would use a wireless remote light switch. If I decide to go wireless, what would be the best way to get power to the lights (12v). Thanks!
Also, Would it be legal to have the new fogs (amber colored) and the standard vehicle fogs on at the same time?
Why would you want to add the supercharger to the V6? Why didn't you just get the V8? At upwards of $3,000 including parts, labor and increased premium required gas for the charger, money obviously isn't an issue.
NOW they use different engine. I am talking about the 2005 XRunner (the new generation Tacoma) and the current 4Runner. So again, they should have a s/c for the 4Runner's V6 soon.
I would like to keep the 17" wheels on my '04 Sport, but would like bigger tires. Do not like the factory Dunlop tires and want a slightly bolder stance, I do occasionaly off road so do not want a street tire. Anyone out there with experience with larger tires? So far been told to purchase new rims (16") and then have a choice of tires.
Bridgestone Revo's and they come in stock and larger sizes for the 17" rim. These tires get raving reviews everywhere I have looked. i.e. tire stores, off-road forums, etc.
I plan to put BFG All Terrains on my V8 SportEdition. They are available in 265/70R17. I am told if you go any larger in diameter, you will need a lift or they will rub. The profile on the All Terrains is more square than the Dunlops, which are fairly round. This will give you a more aggresive look and better contact patch.
Speaking of lifts, has anyone lifted the new 4R with the XREAS suspension? I would like to go up a bit, but I want to keep the XREAS.
Just got my Weather Tech Bug Deflector installed on my '04 4 Runner. The grill doesn't go back as snug and the top nuts wouldn't thread back on. The grill does not seem loose. Has anyone experienced this that can give me some advice? Thanks
Any thoughts on best way to add XM radio to 2004 4runner Sport?
In addition, I think the sound in the factory unit is a little weak but I am hesitant to replace it as I believe I will lose the steering wheel controls. Any recommendations?
Check w/ your local authorities, but nn most states, you can have no more than four white/yellow lights operating in the front -- two headlights and two fog/driving lights. (six lights if you include high beams on some quad beam vehicles) unless you are off road.
I was running headlights, stock fogs and aux. fogs and was cited in Colorado. I also had a set of hella driving lights mounted but they were wired to high beams and fortunately they were not activated too.
I'm looking to purchase an auto-dimming rear view mirror for my 2004 Sport, and I'm trying to figure out what type of mount the mirror has before I go torqueing it off the windshield by mistake. Has anybody removed their mirror, specifically on a 2004? I guess they changed the mount from 2003 to 2004.
Just answered my own question. It is a wedge mount, so don't try to turn it off. The plastic cover against the glass has one tab on each side holding it to the mount. Snap this piece back and you'll see the mount. Pull the tab on the bottom and push the mirror up and off the tab stuck to the window.
Has anyone had their dealer install a rear spoiler on a 04 4 runner? If so, is there anything I should be aware of or look out for? Or should I order the car and have it installed at the factory. Any advice would be appreciated. Apparently, you can not get a rear spoiler on an 04 4 runner SR5 in the Northeast/Mid Atlantic region.
The dealer installed spoiler is slightly different than the factory one. On the dealer installed one the light wraps over the bottom of the spoiler. I think because it is an LED light.
I have recently added a Terk XM Commander to my 2003 V8 4Runner Limited and had it installad at Circuit City. Their installation department actually did a pretty good job and it took them approximately 2 hours to complete.
I had the XM display unit installed on the raised lip between the cupholders and the gear selector area. It complements the interior colors very well. There is only a small protruding wire that would indicate that this was an aftermarket install, but is not very noticeable. The XM module itself is hidden in the dash while I had the extremely small magnetic antenna located on the rear right corner of the roof close to the roof rack.
The sound quality is incredible with 121 XM channels to choose from. I highly recommend this product.
Unfortunately, it is not portable as other XM units are. Also, you will lose the functionality of the steering wheel mounted controls for changing channels, but adjusting the audio volume is not affected. The XM Commander Kit also includes a wireless remote and is easy to use.
I was wondering if anyone had the optional Exhaust Tip by Valor installed on to their 4Runner. Is there any change in the exhaust note? I am considering to purchase one for my 4Runner. Any input?
I see from searching that some of you have installed the Borla dual exhaust, but have any of you installed the TRD catback exhaust system on your V8 4Runner? Any feedback? I would be interested in knowing if there was any noticeable change in performance. Also, is it significantly louder? I don't mind a little extra noise, but I don't want to wake up the neighbors when I go to work in the morning.
I think that was previously discussed in one of the forums here. The TRD exhaust is indeed a rebadged Borla. Compare prices and see which is better for you. Good luck
I asked that question of the TRD folks awhile back. Here's the reply I got:
The dual exhasut for the 4 runner is available and it can be purchased from any local Toyota dealer, retail is $899.95. The system is made in house by TRD and not by Borla. We only have available one system and it exits the sides of the vehicle, and as far as warranty, no TRD part if installed by the Toyota dealer affects the existing warranty on the vehicle.

Dear TRD,
On your homepage, I see a new dual catback exhaust for the 4Runner with 4.7L V8, but I can't find it in the online catalog? What's up?
I would like to have a local TRD dealer install on my '03 4Runner. What's the price? Would it affect my warranty in any way? Is this the system made by Borla? Is it possible to modify for rear exit?
bryancos - you will love the homelink mod - and it's very easy to do. I bet you got the cheapest price going through Partznet - they are very good.
john dode - keep us posted on your progress with the autodimming mirror with compass, where purchased, easy of install, etc. I saw it mentioned on T4R.org
Here is a link to photos of my Terk XM Commander unit in my 2003 4Runner Limited. It was professionally installed at Circuit City within 2 hours at a cost of around $87.00. This was the cleanest install available (IMHO). I also considered having the display located near the moonroof controls, but was afraid of having the technicians make a possibly costly mistake.
I will be adding photos from time to time. Please leave me feedback

**** I believe that there is an accessory available that will preserve total functionality of the steering wheel buttons, but I am satisfied with the wireless remote provided that has an RF transmitter on both the top and bottom to ensure that the remote can be used while held in virtually in any position.
One reason I did not purchase the more portable Delphi XM Ski-Fi or Roady is because I didn't want any unsightly wires or adapters in the cockpit area. The XM Commander was cleanly installed and compliments the interior nicely.
I have a 2004 V8 Limited for ~2months. I am still noticing little "gadgets" within the vehicle such as the garbage bag holder, etc. At any rate I noticed in the manual that there are hooks available in the rear cargo area to "hook" and secure a plastic grocery bag to (loop plastic bag handle over). However I do not appear to have the hook only the receptacle to receive the "hook". I asked one of the service guys & he thought it was an accessory. Although I cannot find it anywhere. Does anyone have these hooks? If so did they come with your vehicle or did you order?
LOL, the garbage bag holder is practically a joke, imho. Basically, I think that the way it is used properly is to take a plastic shopping bag (ie. the kind you get when you grocery shop, and then try to loop it through the little notches. It is not very sturdy, but fortunately, if it is kicked out of place, it can be easily put back into position.
I suppose there might be some sort of fastener available that would work from The Home Depot.
As for the hooks in the rear cargo area,I do not think that they are available with the Limited as the Limited has the dual decker cargo feature. Practically speaking, purchasing a cargo net (if you don't have one) might be a better solution as the hooks don't hold objects heavier than a couple of pounds well.
I have the 2004 Limited with double deck cargo. What I sometimes do is hook the plastic grocery bags on the 'star' shaped things on the side of the car about 15 inches off the floor of the cargo area.
To this day I have not figured out a satisfactory position for the cargo net that came with my car. I have the spider net kind, I think. I have tried hooking it up at the upper level of the cargo area but have nothing to attach it to near the roof of the car. The best I have been able to do with it is to attach the hoops of the net to the under side of the upper cargo flooring, and attach the net hooks to the tie down hooks on the floor of the cargo area near the back door, but it still doesn't seem quite right. I welcome any suggestions as to how to propery hook up the spider cargo net.
To use the spider net, you need to use the plastic hooks on the underside of the upper cargo deck and attach the other two loops to the cargo rings just aft of the rear seats. Hope that makes sense. I'll be putting up more fotos in my Yahoo photo link shortly.
To use the "Star shaped things," you need to have the pouch type net, which is available on ebay for about $20 plus postage. At the dealer, I believe it is about $35 (your price may vary).
Neither does mine. What are you trying to say? Although there were a few reports of X-REAS equipped 4Runners sagging, this is an extremely rare problem.
The X-REAS Suspension does flatten out the 4Runner more than an non equipped model.
I don't know of ANY SUV that turns corners flatter than any car.
can someone recommend the best place for a front grille protector as far as pricing, and would you go with wagg or manik please? I am also curious to know which oil and cabin air filters is recommended: Napa gold, K&N or green and where is the most affordable place to purchase them?
I use K&N oil filters with amsoil 5-30 oil in my 2004 v6 limited. Mobil 1, K&N and amsoil oil filters were top rated in the articles I read. I personally like the front runner and rear bumper guard by waag. I know you wanted to know about grill guards, I talked to alot of people who say waag products are good. I just wish they still made the front runner in stainless steel. That would look great with my titanium color.
I am considering Manik Grille and brush guards for my 04 SR5 and noticed you can buy them in one,two or 4 piece in black or stainless. Is it better to get the one piece, is black going to hold up as well as stainless(rusting etc..) is it easy for a semi-handy guy to install, and finally if I have the sport bumper trim(FO)and the hood protector both that came with the truck, will I still be able to install one of these? Also, do the bars that go across the headlights interfere with light at night? I know you can remove them as well. Thanks in advance. Cliff
The one two and four piece are different versions of the same exact brush gaurd?
And I bet what you say is stainless is really chrome, right?
Lastly it won't fit over the stock sport bumper trim. (btw if you replace your sport bumper trim I would auction it because they go for a lot of money new) Also the grilles over the lights do not affect them.
Does anyone have a recommendation on what brand is good and a photo of what the bug deflector looks like on a 2004 4-Runner. Like to purchase one for my new 4-runner
Thanks toyboxx for your feedback. So, why would anyone buy anything other than the one piece. Also, yes it is chrome. Seems to be considerably more expensive than black! Wonder if it is worth it? Also, the sport bumper trim, it looks nice, but how much does it serve functionally speaking?
Obviously the Manik offers more protection. In your opinion, what could it be auctioned for just to give me an idea. Thanks again toyboxx,
Toyboxx Any idea if one removes the front bumper trim if there will be holes left and are they then going to be used by the Manik or Waag bars? Hate to remove the bumper trim and have giant holes showing? Any thoughts on this? Thanks

The Billet grille looks pretty sharp and reasonably priced.
