    GM and Fiat Spa is back in talks with the creditors of Daewoo. Ford previously had been selected as the preferred bidder, but then failed to submit a final bid offer to the creditors. Meanwhile, several thousand Daewoo workers have walked off the job in Korea and Poland. A Polish delegation has been sent to Korea to for an explanation, but the creditors are reluctant to make any more infusions of operating capital since they are afraid they will not be repaid. Daewoo, operated the newest, most modern small car factories in the world. GM has been interested in acquiring the assets to gain entry into European and Asian small car markets. Korean labor unions want ownership to remain in Korea, and have threatened problems if a foreign owner takes over. The Daewoo Leganza represents Koreas entry into the US luxury car market, and is priced significantly lower than its competitors, while offering luxury comparable to the more expensive cars.

    hey, easy on the suv drivers. you're way over generalizing. for every bad suv driver I see, there are at least 2 bad pickup drivers. I can't count the number of times a I see some 18 year old kid with a silverado weaving in and out of traffic at 80 mph.

    Sorry if I offended anyone I guess I should have said anyone who buys a 5000# vehicle.
    Another problem I see with a lot of drivers is that they buy a 4WD vehicle and become invincible. I think they should drop the SUV tag and classify all vehicles on a truck chassis a truck. The term SUV is nothing more than a marketing tool and as a result people buy them thinking of sport and not utility. To me there is nothing sporty about a 5000# truck they look nice but are not sporty.

    Everyone wants to think that they are "sporty" instead of what they really are. They couldn't market vehicles if they advertised them as perfect for what most people realy are

    Is the best truck the one that sells the most? If so then the best truck is Ford.
    Then Dodge would be the loser.
    Dodge owners would say that Toyota was the loser because it sells fewer trucks.
    By the way, what is the logic that Toyota Tundra built in Indiana and Toyota Tacoma built in California are foreign trucks when "Ford, GM and Dodge have parts or entire trucks made in Canada and Mexico" are considered domestics.
    And all the Dodge fans better not forget that it is a Diamler-Chrysler product and I guess that makes it a German truck.

    Sorry, but I see lots more SUV drivers whipping in and out, slamming on the brakes. Sure some trucks, but far fewer, since often they have loose payload in the beds they don't want bouncing around. Soccer mom is usually much more rude, in much more of a hurry, more likely to be talking on the cell phone than Gonzolo who's hauling lawn mowers, gas cans, and his co-workers riding in back.

    For all you people that think Fords suck because
    it won't last "60,000" miles are screwed up to me.
    I really don't believe in 4 cylinders though. I
    have an 88' Ranger STX 4x4 w/ a 2.9L V6 5 spd. that
    is rebulit w/ 70,000 miles. 75% of the truck is
    stock. The first engine went threw about 296,000
    miles until there was no compression left to start.
    The Transmission and clutch had 349,000 miles
    until it was replaced. It has gone to Michigan more
    than I have. It was well taken care of, but yet
    beat. The paint looks great, the style looks great
    with the stock Roll bar w/ offroad lights and stock
    pushbar w/brush gaurds, and stock front and rear
    end. I believe this truck will last until about
    450,000 miles and then it will be so worn out that
    I will just have to part it out. This truck has
    never been in a serious accident, but just hit on
    the passenger fender, which I replaced.

    Also my mom just got a 2000 S-10 LS w/ 4.3L V-6
    auto with 5,000 down from her father and I tell her
    all the time how much it sucks. The fold out seats
    in the back squeak over every bump in the road.
    She went to the dealer numerous times for it and
    they claim they tightened bolts, but the problem
    still persists. The passenger seat has to be all
    the way back because it doesn't latch. That's what
    I call cheap. This truck costed $23,000 and it's
    only a 2WD and no power anything except steering. I
    changed the oil in it yesterday and I found out
    that the oil plug had magnet on it to trap all the
    particles in the engine. I thought, that's the
    most intelligent idea i've heard from them. The
    truck has almost 16,000 miles and I say it's okay,
    but I don't think that truck will last 100,000
    miles.

    Dodge's I would say are okay, but I don't like the Ram front end look.

    For all you Chevy fans, Tiell Chevy to start making V10's since the biggest is a gass guzzling V8.

    was a good engine. Had a ranger with one that lasted a long time also. Disagree about the V-10 though. From what I hear Chevy's new 496? V-8 gets better mileage than the old 454. I like Ford's approach with a smaller V-10, but I would think you would be able to get just as much power out of 8 cylinders...

    Many people think that since ford bought the Jaguar company that the ford is the bomb.
    Chevy has had the most long lasting trucks on the road without no ones help.I personally prefer Chevrolet than Ford or Dodge and that p.o.s Toyota that claims is better than every truck.
    If you still think that ford is better than chevy your wrong, If you compare the cobra to the Corvette Z06 and the Camaro SS the winners will be Chevy!
    Something is wrong with ford the ignition sucks, the transmision sucks, Ford just plain sucks!!

    Anyone know anything about Ford making the 4.6L V8
    standard on the XLT Supercab SB? Kelly Blue Book
    makes some reference to an August 10th date and the
    engines, but it is not explained well what this
    engine thing is all about. Edmunds also states the
    4.6L V8 as part of the 507A XLT package. As
    usual, the dealers' sales people are not much help.

    As the unofficial, self-appointed guidance counselor around here, let me encourage you to finish high school, go on to some kind of schooling after that (trade, junior college, college), use the spell checker and open your mind just a little.

    Also, to answer your profile question, Camaros are not going out of business since they were never in business in the first place. The Camaro is a model produced by Chevy that may (or may not) go out of production (but probably should be dropped because they've been sucky anyway ever since the model change halfway through the 1970 model year -- oh how I wish I'd kept my 69!).

    Good luck and keep going to school. You're going to need to make a living someday (which will most likely require some increase in literacy). Daddy will probably not keep buying you trucks....

    I think a lot of people misunderstand where the 'sport' in sport utility comes from. Hence you hear them frequently saying "I don't know why anybody would call them sport utes, there's nothing sporty about them." It is not sport in the conventional car enthusiast's sense, as in the 'sport' of road racing or auto-crossing. It refers to the sport of offroading, or more generally to supporting the active lifestyles of other sports, such as kayaking, hunting, etc...

    What the hell is the matter with you people. Ford is much better than chevy. Fords are better built, look better and are way more reliable that p.o.s. chevies. I will admit that the old chevies are good. My father has a 1978, crew cab, longbed, 454, 2wd, pickup that has 90,000+ miles on it. That is the actual milage and it has never turned over. I drive a '97 F-150 and every time I see a new chevy I want to throwup so badly. FORD IS #1. Chevy should take a note from Ford on how to build the best in class cars, trucks, and SUV's. Anyone who says FORD sucks should have a catscan.

    Also love the f150... and I think those new Silverado's are lookin pretty darn good... Tundra isn't heavy duty like the other trucks but it still seems like a slick, well engineered piece of machinery... gee whiz guys... can't we truck lovers just get along?

    because it's an awesome truck... and also cause it's yours... I personally am torn... when I trade in the Ranger in a year or two I was positive I'd want a '97-2000 slightly used F-series.... but that best in class rear seat room and bigger standard V8 in the silverado is pretty darn tempting... I may have to give this brand loyalty thing a second thought come decision time...

    the back seat in this truck is amazing. I havent heard one complaint from a passenger yet.

    I can't accept less than a 6 foot bed...then it goes from being a real pickup to an SUV in disguise...so I might as well go buy myself an SUV. Except I don't especially like those...

    The supercrews can haul though. This past sept a guy was hauling a bunch of bricks (3000). Didnt think the pallet would fit well but somehow it did.

    Just helped a buddy buy one this last weekend. It had the aluminum cage that swung out over the tailgate making it almost as long as a long bed. The cage also kept things from sliding to the cab when the tail gate is closed. Definitely versatile.
    I personally don't think you're giving up anything in the bed and gaining a lot of interior room. If your load is too big for a regular short bed you just put the tail gate down any way. Don't you?

    OK, I need you Silverado owners to confirm a rumor. A company i am friends with has a fairly large fleet of half ton silverados, and one of the guys said that if you turn on the flashers, the speed limiter is disabled.

    anyone tried that?

    I'll double check but I was basing it on a 5.5' bed(?) and a 2' tailgate(?) making the total enclosed length with the cage 7.5'. About 6" shorter than a long bed.

    They fired an exec and now the president of the company here in the US is gonna get the AX. Also cost cutting and lay offs are going to happen? What is up with that? Im not a big dodge fan but it really bothers me. Damn foreigners. Why do they have to be so shady???

    as with any job.....you screw up enough times and you're out....same as with baseball and marriages. I don't believe that nationality has anything to do with this one. If you made money for DC, I'm sure you will have a job...or you'd have to be a super salesman like Iococca...

    The reason Chrysler was in the cellar for years and had to be bailed out by the Feds. Heard rumor several years ago, after Chrysler turned the corner and started producing decent products, that Iacocca was trying to rig a takeover and get his job back. Was probably jealous that they were making decent products and profits. Must have just been rumor though, because I never heard anything else about it. What a jerk!!!

    I respectfully disagree with you on Iacocca's role at Chrysler. He single handily brought them back from near death with that garbage K-car and the minivans. The Fed. backed loans were paid back years ahead of time.

    What bothered me about the jerk was he would tout how great Chryslers were and knock the Japanese autos all the while the majority of Chrysler products had JAPANESE motors in them.

    "If you can find a better car for the money, buy it" What a crock.

    I respect that you disagree with me. Really!! The point I tried to make, and I will admit I did not do a good job, was that I heard he tried to regain control of Chrysler after they were seeing some new success. The introduction of the Intrepid, Stealth, the current generation Ram, and many other new models drastically increased their profits. I was peeved to hear that he would try to regain control when things were going so well. Again, this is all based on rumor that I heard many years ago, so it may all be hogwash.

    Well whatever Iacocca did, at least he didn't sell the company off to a foreign company for a quick buck, like Eaton. Chrysler's now being run into the ground with 7 plants idling and stock price sitting at 40% down for the year. Now with Dailmer people occupying most of the top seats at Chrysler including the President (Holden got fired over the weekend), Chrysler's going to be a shadow of its former self. Hopefully we'll still get the same inovation that created the Ram, Viper, Prowler and PT Cruiser but somehow I think most of guys behind those designs are already gone to GM and Ford.

    I highly doubt that Mercedes is going to let dodge go down the tubes. They are a large manufacturer with a lot of years of experience. I don't see the point of them buying a controlling interest in the company and then not doing its best to see to it that it is a success. By the wat Iaccoa was responsible for bringing the ford mustang to market and presented the concept of the minivan to ford, who rejected the idea, before coming to chrysler who welcomed the new idea.

    the Chrysler innovators have pretty much left too. I don't see much precedent for the kind of out-of-the-box thinking that has kept them afloat in the German corporation. Great engineering, yes. Innovative design, not particularly. Maybe they'll try to buy an Italian company (for the designers) to get that. The American portions of DC will almost certainly decline. I won't say fail, but there will be suffering....

    Plymouth is dead, the Ram van is dead, the Ram-based SUV is dead, the Chrysler 300 Hemi convertible is dead, the Dodge Charger is dead, and the new JGC is on indefinite hold. trevor Creed, chied Chrysler designer said this week at the concept car preview that no more concept cars will be produced unless "a business case can be made for them". I agree, the "who cares, let's build it anyway" attitude of the 1990s Chrysler is long gone now.

    The unveiling of the new Ram 1500 is 8 weeks away at the Detroit auto show. We'll see.

    That 300 hemi convertible was sweet. I think that was one of the nicest cars at the autoshow last yr.

    Best lay your eyes on this, it aint that way no more. Looks like them facts be the Toyota one be sellin best now. Facts be facts, them fad chasin big3 ones aint that good no more. Done sold that 52 long time ago. Got me one of them limited ones now, hitch be coming in the mail order. Got ta tote that mule now.
