I purchased a new 2005 300c in March of 2006. Almost immediately, it tended to lead to the right, and as time went on, this became more pronounced. At 6000 miles, I took it to the local Conti tire dealer to have the front end alignment checked. It was well within Chrysler specs, but they tried to 'fine tune it', with no luck. They then swapped the front two tires, side to side. No help. They told me that they had seen numerous problems with the Conti tires over the past few years, and said the tires appeared to be bad. I took it to the Chrysler dealer where I bought it. They aligned it. No help. Chrysler had issued two service bulletins on this problem. I took it back to the Conti tire dealer for adjustment. Continental agreed to replace 'the' bad tire. The Conti dealer rotated my tires 3 times, placing each tire on a different corner at least once. No help. The tires had 7000 miles on them at this time. The Conti dealer measured the tread depth for adjustment, and found them all to be half worn out. Still, Continental would only pay me for the unused tread on ONE tire. Tires on new vehicles do not have a treadwear warranty on them. Supposedly 60,000 mile tires, half worn out in 7000 miles. I had the tire dealer put on 4 Goodyear Assurance tires, (80,000 mile treadwear warranty) and my lead off problem was gone. My mileage went from a hiway average of 23.5 mpg, to about 26MPG, at 60mph, no air cond on. Combo driving ave went from around 21 to 22.5. The difference in handling is like nite and day. I too live in a rural area, with the roads being crowned and uneven. The car no longer handles like a truck. Steering is sensitive, but it is amazing what a GOOD set of tires can do. I now have over 9000 miles on the car. Still runs straight and true. I had the Chrysler dealer change my motor oil, automatic transmission oil, and differential gear lube over to Amsoil synthetic lubricants, and now my hiway mileage easily averages over 30MPG at 60mph, and my combo city/hiway mileage averages about 25.7 MPG. I have used Amsoil synthetics since 1978 with nothing but hi praise and satisfaction in them. My whole family,6 kids and spouses are all satisfied customers, too. I cannot say enough for how much confidence that I have in them. Check them out. Research them. Amsoil is known for admitting that they develop and blend their lubricants to be the best in quality, not the cheapest in cost. But it has been my experience that the higher cost is well worth it. Just because it says paint on the can, doesn't make all paints equal. It's the same with synthetic lubricants. You can buy a hi quality paint that is warranted to last for several years, and covers in one coat, or you can buy a cheaper quality paint, and have to use two or three coats to cover, and then repaint again every few years. All synthetic oils are not the same, it's whats in the can that counts. I love my 300c, so far. A real head turner. Sound system is great. NAV, parksense, and all the other extras make this car a real pleasure to own and drive. I wouldn't have Continental tires on anything I drive. The Conti dealer told me that they do not recommend Conti tires to any of their customers because of the problems, and the way Conti chooses to handle them. They only keep them on hand for those who have been lucky enough to not have any problems, and asks for them as replacements for what came on their cars.

I'm glad you like your car .I found out with the pulling to the right was a problem with the rear alignment not the front. The Conti tires are only a 30000 mile tire and all tire manufactures will only pay for the tread left on the tires.I replaced mine at 3500 miles and then again at 7000.
The dealer finally found out that my front steering cradle was made wrong so they replaced it and no trouble since. :) I put on a set of Pirelli P6 and love them.I also use AMSOIL and have for over 30 years and no tro with any thing I have used it in.But I STILL change every 4000 miles .Just can't get used to a 15000 mile oil.

All together, my car had all four wheels aligned 4 separate times. The cradle on the front was adjusted during the first alignment, in an effort to 'fine tune it'. I am a machinist by trade, so I know all about 'tolerances' on specs. Wheel alignment specs also have a fairly wide tolerance area. By 'fine tuning my alignment', they were able to adjust it to nearly centerline perfect within their spec tolerances. My car came with the self-sealing ContiTouringContac tires on it, and were part of a safety package option, and the Continental company web site identifies them as being a 60,000 mile tire. Since I no longer have them, I am unable to verify the exact model of the tire. As for the oil change interval, I still follow Chrysler's oil change recommendation for synthetic motor oils, that being 6000 miles between changes. I have the MDS Hemi, that looses 4 cylinders when cruising, or under light excelleration. This motor requires a 5w-20 motor oil be used to allow the MDS to function properly. Amsoil has a 7500 mile motor oil that I use in my car, and they too will only recommend the use of a 5w-20 in this motor. My Chrysler dealer has a promotional program in which if I have them do my service work, they will buy my tires for life, as long as I own the car. We did have some 'words' over my intitial tire problem, and their pointing out that the tires have their own separate warranty, but other than that, they have been very good about everything else. My tire dealer also worked with me as much as they could. I received a check from Continental for $155.92 towards 'The' bad tire that they agreed to replace. The tire dealer allowed me $200.00 for the 4 Conti tires, towards the purchase of the Goodyear tires, and they also sold the Goodyear tires to me at their cost. I ended up having to spend just over $100 to replace the Conti tires.

Has anyone heard when the 2007's will hit showrooms? Seems late.

    Thx

If you listen to the news,DCX '06 inventory is huge and they can't get rid of them, and they are cutting productions on '07s.They should should be coming soon ,but I think with smaller inventories.GM,and Ford have the same problem.

    The 2007's are out.

This vehicle was a week old when the tranny blew.Waited a month for a new tranny from Detroit.Vehicle is now 15 months old and having persistent electrical problems.Lock out, won't start, alarm activates, etc.Dealer says its the fail safe system.New key, battery and send me on my way only to have the problem continue.Vehicle towed 3 times in two weeks. This at a cost of 46K..I love the car but cannot put up with all this aggravation.Very poor product for the money. And they wonder why the US auto industry is going down the tubes????I was loyal to American made, but will now have to switch.Soryy guys,,you suck at building automobiles...
  • lacadelacade Member Posts: 12
My 300 Touring started to show the same problems a few months ago.

Remote won't work, alarm activates and car won't start. After the alarm stops I just open the door with the key and the alarm activates again. I put the key into the ignition the and the alarm stops. Everything is back to normal for a few weeks.

As usual, the dealers have no clue as to what could be wrong since "I am the only one" with the issue. No fault codes are recorded.

If you go to WWW.elkincjd.com they have a 2007 build calculator. No Heritage for 07 though. Go to the chrysler site and build calculator for 06's ( the only one they have) and build yourself another 06' Heritage, Once done hit Search inventory and it will give you the dealers around you inventory. If you don't see one, use advanced search and expand the distance from you. Here in SC there are several Heritages, I almost bought one but chose to buy an SRT8 on ebay instead. I love it.
  • xtecxtec Member Posts: 354
I noticed this isn't the only vehicle you had trouble with the tranny. So I would say its not only Chrysler. You can go elsewheres but they aren't any better.I read the so called car of cars the 07 Toyota Camary are having tranny problems and some can't drive their cars because they hesitate so bad.Plus you bought a car in its first year which is a mistake you made.I don't care what you buy any first year car is gonna have problems.I been buying Chrysler products for 36('70-'06) years and had 2 lemons which is not bad.I bought 1 GM and it was a lemon.
  • vic10vic10 Member Posts: 188
It's a pity but it's true. A Buick Park Ave. I bought had: two engine changes, six water pumps, one power steering pump, new rear suspension mounts, new brake pads, and several electrical glitches all within the first 3 years. It was replaced by another Buick that ran flawlessly for 6 years (of course...I bought the supplemental warranty). So far, after 26 months of ownership and 26K miles, my only complaints with my 300C are minor, quickly repaired with one visit to the dealer. It's a shame not all of the 300's run as well. But then, they're build by humans.
  • xtecxtec Member Posts: 354
Wow,now thats what I call a Lemon.Thats was worse then all three that I had together. My cars after my lemon cars turned out to be good ones. You just either had good luck or not. They have a percentage of how many cars out of a 100
that will have problems. You just hope you don't get one of the bad ones. There is a theory that don't buy a car that was built on a Monday or Friday.Check the built date.

I have had my 300C since 9/05 and have had 5 different CD players in it due to the thing skipping (4 replacements for that) and also for just not working at all. Now that my car is out of warranty, it won't play, load, or eject the CD's. It just sits there stuck. The other things (cassette, radio player, and satellite radio) are unaffected. My dealer wants $390 to trade this radio out for another one. Does any one have a better solution? Needless to say, I am getting a little put off by this.
  • mikeyjohnmikeyjohn Member Posts: 365
Why would your car be out of warranty? I have had mine since June 04 and my warranty does not run out until June 07, unless you have gone over mileage. I would also say that you should have a case because of the number of times that your unit was replaced. I use my unit all the time and have never had a problem.
  • drbditdrbdit Member Posts: 7
I have over 40,000 miles on it so no warranty. I agree there is a case there from my viewpoint, but as you can guess, not from the dealers.
  • mikeyjohnmikeyjohn Member Posts: 365
I thought that was case with your warranty, although I still think you should have a claim for the CD player.

My car is in Kms. and I only have 18,000 Kms on it. I guess I have to get out there more!!!!
  • xtecxtec Member Posts: 354
If you had problem with your CD player while under warranty, then its documented and they should repair it until the problem is solved.I would discuss this with your service manager, and if you get no help call Chrysler themselves.Your problem hasn't been solved regardless whether your in warranty or not, this is a ongoing problem
that they are obligated to fix until your satisfied.I would have them check your wiring system,it just hard to believe that you had 5 defected CD players.Good Luck

Does anybody know what the redline is for the Chrysler 3.5L engine? I know the specs are 250HP@6400RPM but you aren't able to shift at 6400 so you don't even see 250HP. From my experience the car shifts at around 5500 RPM.
  • xtecxtec Member Posts: 354
You answered your own question. Its 6400.Why aren't you able to shift at 6400?even if you leave your tranny in drive and give it full throttle,it should shift at 6400.If you do it manually you should be able to shift at 6400.I have the 3.5,and I have no trouble getting to 6400.If it shifts before that, then you should bring it in for a adjustment on your tranny.
  • batistabatista Member Posts: 159
Thank you. I guess I haven't been flooring it hard enough.

my new yorker just stopped working in the middle of the road. I just changed the alternator 2 days prior to that. I put in a new crankshaft sensor because it had no fire and that is what I was able to trouble shot it too. Now this! It still won't turn over after the crankshaft sensor was replaced.link title

I have had a 300 AWD here in Florida for 2 weeks. All the reviews I can find like these cars, but this is what I don't like:
Loose steering. Constantly correcting the steering. Very little feel of the road.
If I am driving at 60 mph the car starts to feel unsafe. Lack of precise steering. Car wonders all over.
Brakes are soft. Really have to press to get a reaction.
Windows too small, especially the front windshield. Can't even see some stoplights unless you lean way forward in some unnatural position.
Can't put my arm on the window sill - it is too high up.

On the plus side, this car feels very similar to my 1976 Grand Fury. Big hood, simple instruments, lots of room.
It does have a lot of power too. It is pleasant looking and I got a compliment from some guy who really liked my car.

I know I am used to European cars so I try not to factor that into the equation. Someone at work is planning on buying a 300 (currently has an Intrepid)and I am not sure if my concerns are real for most people. By the way, my last two previous cars were Jeeps which I really did like.

I know this is the place for buyers of 300's who for the most part love their cars. And it is upsetting when someone criticizes, but please let me know how you feel about these issues. :confuse:

Glad to comment (My 300C has 30k miles)
Although I agree there is a steering issue I don't think it's lack of road feel. I think it's too responsive to the road. If you're use to two finger driving you will be all over the road. But a firm, steady hand will keep the car on the straight and narrow.

Totally disagree with the brakes. I drove a rental Town Car a couple of weeks ago. For one relatively quick stop the brake pedal mushed down so far the edge of my shoe pressed down on the accelerator, making for a very exciting moment or two. There's absolutely no mushy-ness with my brakes. Maybe the problem here is yours being a rental.

The window size is a personal thing. Here in Tulsa, on a 100+ deg summer day, the smaller windows are quite pleasant. I personally don't find the reduced visibility an issue. As for viewing stop lights, I had similar issues with a 2006 Impala. And yes, you can't put your arm on the sill. But I never did that with my other cars since I'm usually driving with the climate control on Auto.

I've also heard complaints about the speed control stick (vs steering wheel controls) but found once I got use to it I could activate without having my hands leave the steering wheel rim, something you can't do if the controls are on the wheel. Drove that Town Car for a week and never got use to the steering wheel controls.

My only personal complaints are the stiff ride with the Hemi engine, and too much rear suspension noise. I'll be replacing the Conti tires pretty soon and that may address some of that. Have not had any mechanical issues so far. Love the power (it spoils you....). And the 20 mpg to and from work.

I appreciate your intelligent sensible comments.
The more I drive the car the more I like it, it is just a shock after driving our Euro cars.
You are probably right about the steering but I find I have to constantly correct it, and there is almost a quarter turn of constant correcting.

The brakes are not a big problem, but in my own car they are more precise and if you make a panic stop the car knows it and will automatically apply full pressure.

I don't drive with the windows down but i still like to have my arm on the inside of the window sill. I have become used to not doing this, but would like to be able to...not a big thing.

The speed stick is awkword at first, but you do get used to it.

My own car has a much stiffer ride so I don't find the ride to be harsh...actually pretty good. Not sure what tires are on it but they are noisy.

I really like the power and if you owned a car from the 70s or 80s this is like driving the ultimate one of those. And that big hood really makes you feel you are driving a real car!

Getting to actually like it quite a bit but not ready to trade in my Euro car for one.

IMO it would be an amazing car if it was a little smaller, had a higher roofline with bigger windows, and had more precise steering. Overall, it is the best rental car I have ever had and makes for a pretty decent vehicle.

I dumped the Conti's at 17K and went with the Goodyear Assurance - ride, traction and handling are much improved.

Good idea! They ruin the whole car. Amazing what a difference a good set of tires can make.
I like the car the more I drive it but too bad they couldn't get the Mercedes feel to the steering!

My '05 C just passed 17k miles. Very few problems but the tires have been replaced under dealer loyalty program. The car came with 2 free sets. the continentals had some tread left but I have had probelms with self sealing not working and was told a tire could not be repaired. now have the good year and they are great.

I received my 300C AWD in March of 2005. It now has 21,000 miles and thus has had 7 oil changes. Something has needed repair every single time - from faulty O2 sensors to rattling unroof (open or closed.) Once, as I left a traffic light the entire dash began flashing and the car would only creep at about 5mph. I pulled off the road, turned it off, restarted it and it did fine - all the way back to the dealer.

The most persistant problem has been the automatic wipers. Thrice, the dealer has worked on it and they still come on every time I give a turning signal. Sometimes they run at high speed when there is no rain, and sometimes they remain intermitant even when it is pouring.

Also, the trunk interior has caved in under the trunk lid opening.

I buy a car about every 3 to 4 years. The only new car that I 've owned with more issues was a 2000 S-Type, and Jaguar's ads for the 2001 S-Type boasted that 74% of the cars parts had be re-engineered. That made me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I'm already shopping for a replacement.
  • mike_sp1mike_sp1 Member Posts: 43
When I purchased my '06 I never considered that there would me such a slim selection of replacement tires--especially the lack of Michelins and Goodrich. I would NOT replace the crapola Contis with another set--worst set of tires I have ever owned  .

With that said, that limits me according to results from Googling, to Cooper, Goodyear, Pirelli, Yokohama, Firestone, and Bridgestone.

The only Goodyears are actually minivan tires.

It appears that the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity tires look like winners.

Thoughts/opinions of the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity or other recommendations would be appreciated. :confuse:

    Thanks,

I put the Cooper Lifeliner SLE 18" tires on my Magnum RT and they have been fantastic. The Crapinentals wore out at 16,000 miles. I now have 30,000 and the Coopers look hardly used at all. Better wear, better driving, better ride, better tire all the way around. Pretty reasonable too. I have been very happy with these tires.

I still have the original Continental 4X4 something or other on my 06 C AWD. Totally worthless in the snow. Getting rid of the C in a month or so but if not I would have already put something else on.

I have a 2006 300 with the Heritage Edition chrome wheels.
I have just noticed pitting on all 4 of my wheels. (18 inchers, if that matters) I live in Pittsburgh and they salt the roads like crazy, but has anybody else noticed this.
    Thanks for the help.
  • donl1donl1 Member Posts: 112
Pitting has been a widely discussed topic for the 05 and 06's. Many have had luck with the dealer and Chrysler replacing wheels. Check out a few more forums and you find this topic is quite common.

The 2005 models of the 300 have a 70,000 mile/7 year warranty on the drive chain, 36 month bumper to bumper.. The 2006 models have a 36,000 mile, 3 year warranty, bumper to bumper and drive chain.

This is what I have on the table. 300 Touring edition, leather interior, moonroof, satellite radio, power seats, 3.5L V6. MSRP of the car is 30,360 - Cap cost is 28,140 - 1500 Chrysler rebate - 2,500 down payment. Since my wife only qualifies for "B" tier credit with Daimler Chrysler, the money factor is .00354 (8.5%). They offered 39 month lease @ 437. Residual 53%.

What do you guys think? All the lease calculators online come out to a little more actually with those stats. What should I do? Is this a worthwhile deal? To purchase the car, the payment would be over $500 per month.

I owned a 05 Chrysler 300 Touring since 2 years ago. But it's now 27k miles into its life and I've been driving it carefully ever since I got it. Everything seem s fine except they had to fix the alignment a few times ( a common issue among all 300's)when it was less than 1000 miles and they also replaced the rear left power window module and flushed the software. Dealers got those issues taken care. But I was told the camber bolt has to be replaced in order to adjust the alignment again. And it is not covered under warranty. I was a mechanic in the service too so I understand how things work. In this case, it's either the mechanic at their dealership was trying rip me off by charging $460 to replace it, or Chrysler had a defect bolt on this one. How can it be damaged when this bolt sits at the center of the wheel? So I contacted one of the warranty Rep to discuss it, but this lady seemed know nothing about mechanical problems and she called up the service Dept. A few minutes later she returned to me saying that Chrysler 300's has different alignment design and it's costly to fix the alignment issue. Then she kept on saying the $460 job of replacing this Camber Bolt is considered "Normal Wear and Tear". What a joke!!!
I like this car and I expected to see big panel gaps and some issues as people stated on forums. But now I believe why people also said "Chrysler doesn't stand behind their products".
To those people who consider Chrysler products as their daily drivers, be prepared to deal with quality issues during life expectancy of their products. If you want reliability and service, go somewhere else.
And to Mercedes Benz, they made a big mistake to associate with Chrysler. This kind of experience truly damage the image of a world class car manufacturer. Mercedes should sell Chrysler, NOW!!! They don't deserve it.
  • xtecxtec Member Posts: 354
Your not making sense. You have a 3/36 month warranty on your car and with the info you gave your bolt should be covered under this bumper to bumper warranty.I think your talking to the wrong people.I been driving Chrysler cars as well worked on them, and its the only brand I would buy.I never had problem when my car was under warranty.I think these are the best cars Chrysler made with the help of MB.I think you should call Chrysler's office and see if they can take care of your problem. The 05 300 were noted for bad alignment and I would bring this up with whoever you talk to.Chrysler stood behind their product for me with a lemon that they bought back('85) and a buy back('01).Good luck.

Thx for your reply. I'll wait and see if I need to take furter action, cuz the last aligmnet was done at least a year ago and I rotated the tires accordingly and monitored tire pressure all the time. I only noticed the steering wheel being 3-5 degrees off center and the car pulls to the "LEFT" a bit on the road. The dealer offers a pothole special PKG which comes with an oil change. So I took the car in for aligment. There's still a possibility the mechanic was making this up to rip me off for $460 on the repair. The aligment isn't bad at this time since I don't see and abnormal tire wear. So I decided to keep my eyes on the car and take it to another dealer next time. My 6th sense tells me that I shouldn't trust this dealer anymore. Can anybody tell me how can a Camber Bolt be broken by normal driving? I really love this car and I'd take the 300 over a Volvo everytime we go out. Just hope Chrysler hires more knowlegeble warranty Rep than the one I talked to(she told me she's not a Tech so she doesn't know what a Camber Bolt is!!!) :(
  • illini4illini4 Member Posts: 140
A camber bolt in the center of the wheel? That doesn't make any sense.
  • cm3cm3 Member Posts: 11
Do you mean that it can be damaged by normal driving condition? or the dealer was simply trying make up something to charge me?
  • vic10vic10 Member Posts: 188
Replaced the Conti's at 30K miles. For the last 6K or so, the car's handling was positively squirrelly. It felt like it had bias-ply tires installed--or that something had come loose in the front end. The Goodyears went on 4 days ago. Don't think they're any quieter than the Conti's (though I'm running them a bit hard: 34/32 psi) but they've totally changed the handling of the car. NO skittishness in the front end. Solid feeling. Like a totally different car.... I'd highly recommend them.

What grade of gas are you guys using? I am gassing up with Premium.
  • vic10vic10 Member Posts: 188
Mid-grade 89 octane. Tried premium and thought I was getting slightly better mileage. But have concluded it's more a function of the brand of gas (and outside temp and tire pressure....).
  • billfromnewpalbillfromnewpal Member Posts: 5
I have a 2005 C and have been using 87 octane. It runs fine, can't tell any difference when using 89.

I have a 2005 300C with only 23K miles and have been fortunate to never need an alignment. Don't know if you bought your car off the lot or ordered it. I ordered mine - is it possible they take more care in building the made to order cars?

I've been very happy with the 300C and the 2 other Chrysler/Dodge's we have - Intrepid and Grand Caravan Sport.
