Heres a silly question. Im not certain weather I have a 4 or 5 speed tranny. I recently purchased a used 06 Touring. 3.5 litre with what I assumed was a 5 speed tranny.
I have a build date of 4-06 on my door sticker. And I thought all 3.5 300's built after 9-05 have a 5 speed tranny. Im not sure If I do. My auto stick will only display up to 4 on the dash if I manually shift. When just listening to the gears shift in auto Im not sure if Im going into 5th or juat an overdrive.
I guess the best way to determine is can someone with a 5 speed auto stick tell me if it displays 5th gear on the dash if you manually shift. And if I dont have a 5 speed , shouldnt I with a 4-06 build date ???
I did research on this question, and I came up with anything built after 9-6-05 is a five speed.read my message#4584.And the 5 speed has no dipstick. If you have the window sticker,it will tell you,if its says its made in Germany,it is A 5 speed.
Thanks illini and xtec. The dash only displaying to the number 4 was throwing me off. The car shifts so smoothly you barely feel the shift in the higher gears.
Ive had the car for 4 days and loving it so far. Heres a quick review incase anyone reading this is considering the 300 touring.
I have an 06 Linen Gold 300 Touring. With 13000 miles.
First off the 3.5 is plenty powerful. I traded in an Aurora I owned for 6 years with the V8 4.0 Northstar and this car is every bit as powerful. With much better acceleration.
Ride is tight for a big car. Very quite and zero rattles. I forgot how much better a rear wheel drive car turns than the FWD cars Ive been driving the last 10 years. Steering is very responsive.
Interior is nice and clean. A bit boring , but thats what the Limited is for if you choose to pay for it. I think at some point Im going to put in the factory Nav system. You can find the factory systems for sale online.
The only real complaints I have is the seats are a bit flat and theres a lot of wind noise when you open the sunroof over 45mph. Stereo is a bit weak , but again i chose the Touring.
The only problem Ive encoutered is what I think is possibly a bad wheel bearing. Or one of the Goodyear Integrity tires may be bad. Im hearing a very slight countinuous thumping sound sometimes when slowing down from like 50MHP. It sounds like maybe a dead spot in a tire or something. And I only seem to hear it on certain types of road surfaces. Really isnt that bad , but its the only thing wrong with the car I would classify as a problem. Ill get it checked out though.
The five speed in the 300, Magnum and Charger are built in Kokomo, Indiana. It is a Mercedes design, but the transmissions (at least mine was) are built in the USA. When I first saw no dipstick, I was shocked. Also mine has leaked and had to have some type of sensor that fits into it replaced (warranty).
I actually like how the 4 speed Autostick in my 99 Intrepid ES works in some ways better than the 5 speed in the 300. In the Intrepid, when in Autostick mode, the transmission automatically downshifts to first when you come to a stop. The 5 speed doesn't do that. Also, the 4 speed lets you know exactly what gear you are in, including 4. The 5 speed goes from 4 to D. Now when in automatic mode, the 5 speed is probably a superior transmission, but I have no complaints about the 4 speed Autostick in the Intrepid. :shades:
I just checked a dealer web site and looked at the window sticker on a couple of 5 speeds and all said made in DE which is national code for Germany. My window sticker also says my 5 speed was made in Germany.I know for a fact the 4 speeds are made in Kokomo.Check for yourself and check a dealer and youll see the 5s are made in Germany.I had the 4 speed in my '02 Intrepid SXT and I didn't like the way it shifted. The 5 speed is alot better the the 4.
I have a Chrysler 300 also and the left rear window works only on occasion. If it's really hot the window doesnt work period. I've brought it in a couple times and the window has worked then I brought it in while it didnt work and the dealer claimed there was "dirt in the channel". Now of course the window isnt working again. They refuse to just replace the power window module unless the window isnt working at the time. But of course they didnt bother checking that out last time. It's very frustrating. The car also has pools of water on the runners inside the doors when it's raining. I find the mechanics and service advisors to be quite useless. Is there anywhere to file a complaint about the window? Thanks
There is a service bulletin for your rear window. The bulletin #2303804 with date of bulletin Sept.23,04.Why your dealer didnt know about this is weird.I heard some people complain about the same problem so they should know whats going on.Look in your owners manual and it shows a 800 number for customer service,Or you can try another dealer and see if you get service like you should get.For your water problem have them check the seals on the door.Good Luck.
If your car is still under warranty,it won't cost you anything,if your bring it to someone else it will cost you and they have to be able to read the bulletin to know what to do to correct the problem.
It is still under warranty. But they wont fix it!! I called Chrysler direct. The service bulletin was issued for 2005 models and although my car was built in early 2005 it is considered a 2006 so they say it doesnt apply to my car! It's completely absurd! It's the exact same problem. They know they have this problem. The windows were incorrectly installed and they wont do anything about it. GRRRRRRRRRR.
It really doesn't matter if it doesn't match the bulletin, the problem still exist and they are obligated to repair any defect you have whether there is a bulletin for that problem or not. They are breaching their warranty if they don't fix the problem.I would either have a talk with the service manager or try a differant dealer. If that doesn't work, bring it back as least 4 times for that problem and then you can file lemon law or ask Chrysler for a buy back.I would try the buy back, you get full value for you car,on lemon law they deduct useage. How do I know ,ive done both.I hope it wont go that far but thats your options.Make sure you keep all receipts everytime you go for repair and make sure they give them to you each time.Good luck
I can't find anywhere on my windosticker that says where the tranny was made, but it is a WA tranny, and that is a MB code, so you may be correct that it was made in Germany :shades: .
If you look on your window sticker, it will be towards the bottom, just above where it tells you the fuel mileage. It will say parts content information. It will tell you where it was made, then it will say country of origin. It will first show where the engine was made then the transmission,it will say DE or Germany for the 5 speed.
Your is the only one Ive seen that says US for the 5 speed,I looked at about 50 window stickers and they all said DE or Germany.Mine says Germany, thats on my 2006 Charger.Maybe they make some in the US,but yours is the first for me.I'll keep looking until i find one like yours. Most of the ones I checked were 300s.
I imagine it's super rare since it was only available for, what, half of the first year of the 300? Anybody have an idea of the production numbers of 300s with the jade interior?
I am so disappointed with my 06' 300C I bought it brand new from the dealer and now I'm having Transmission problems it only has 3000 miles on it! I had noticed a leak from under the car in my garage and its like a pinkish color and really oily so I checked and nothing so I took it to the dealer and they said the gaskets had to be replaces. And within the same day its ready to go I don't know if I can trust them because they are lazy and it just makes me mad to pay $43000 and for it to be giving problems and it hasn't even reached 5000 miles! Well if anyone else has had this same problem please let me know what I should do, because at this point I want to trade it in.............. :lemon:  :confuse:
I'm confused with your message. On one forum you say you have a new sportage, then on another you say you have a 07 300c,now your driving a 06 300c?Plus you praised you car on a forum, now you say its junk?
This is common with the LX cars. It's a minor transmission leak that gets fixed in less than an hour. You would be nuts to trade it in for this because no car is perfect.
My 300C did the same at about 16000 miles. The leak comes from failed gaskets around a sensor that plugs into the transmission for information for the computer. It is a common problem, and doesn't take long to fix at all. Get it fixed and enjoy the wonderful car :shades:
Actually, the Jade/Graystone was available for all of the '05 and '06 model years. Still, not overly common, and usually stuck with only a couple exteriors, but still not super duper rare.
Guys can you tell me how much over invoice should I spend on a 300C? I heard the Chrysler sold to Cerberus news really shake buyers confidence... How about its maintenance costs?
Btw I've been told buying a brand new one isnt worth it since it loses almost $10k the 1st year, is it true?
If it is, then how much should I look forward to spend on an 06 or 07 300C?
I spotted a silver on beige 06 300c, 19k miles, almost fully loaded w/ protection group, sound group, wood trim, sunroof and xenon.
This is my 1st time for a Chrysler, so any infos are very appreciated
The Kelly blue book on this car is 31660 in excellant condition.I don't see much depreciation on this.I read the the 300,then the Charger have the best resale value in their class. The maintenance costs should be no more then any other car.As far as Chrysler, thats the only thing I buy, mopars. As far as being sold to Cerberus,I heard good things from this, plus Damlier still owns almost 20%.
I'm actually more concerned than confident with the sales though. Particularly on technology and availability of parts. I hope they will still use MB parts and technology in 300s. No offense but Chrysler sedans pre-300c are total mess imo. I do however admit they look good, especially the 300M. Crossfire looks good too.
Chrysler has a deal with MB and will still be involved with designs and parts.Right now they are working together on new engines, transmissions, and axles.Plus like I said MB still owns almost 20% of Chrysler.I will say My Charger is the best built Chrysler product I ever had.My '02 Intrepid was a great car,but no match to the Charger.
Traded my '00 300M for a new '07 300C. The M was trouble free for all 72,000 miles. My wife has an '02 Caravan with 87,000 miles-No problems. Don't be fearful of buying Mopar. The 300C is absolutely a great car and is a pure pleasure to drive!!!

Our '99 Intrepid ES has 115,000 miles, has been a great car and still is. I have no qualms about my son taking it to college next month, 250 miles away. Our other son's 2000 Cherokee has 117,000 and has given us no trouble (except A/C, which is being repaired now). I recently bought a used 2005 Grand Cherokee and wife mostly drives the 2006 300C. Our daughter has a 2004 Accord, which has also been very good, but has had more recalls than any of our Mopars have ever had. I also can't say enough about the service I have gotten at our local Chrysler/Jeep dealer. What can I say, we are more than satisfied with Chrysler, before, during, and after the merger. :shades:
Chrysler just came out with a liftime powertrain warranty. This is a great deal. Its for most models and for the first buyer. It can't be transfered to another buyer. This is for '07 and '08 model years.
My lease is finishing up on my first 300 C later this month. Thirty-nine months and 80,000 miles later this car is still fun to drive. Honestly my only complaint is that I just can't to keep tires on the car. This has more to do with its considerable capabilities, how much fun the car is to drive, and the performance tires than any fault of the vehicle.
My previous car was an Audi A6 which was unreliable and not particularly fun to drive, and prior to that, it was a Ford Taurus (reliable and also not particularly fun to drive). Business is good and I pretty much have my pick of any foreign or domestic vehicle. My choice is a 300C AWD.
My 07 300C is only 3 months old and you are right - it is a "kick" to drive. After reading all the posts about the "crapinental tires" - wearing out, "crown" and alignment problems - one of the smart things I did when I bought the car was have the dealer exchange those tires for the Goodyear Assurance tires, which I had on my 300M. This tire is great and the car tracks like a train!!! A couple of observations - the power windows seem to have a mind of their own, stronger hinges are needed so you don't get knocked back into the car, cruise control seemed to be an afterthought. Overall, a really great car!!! P.S.- Make sure you get the Luxury Group option. It adds to the class.
The Conti's were garbage...and the Goodyear Assurance I put on 3,000 miles ago are great (so far...). A friend is looking at the Bridgestone Turanza for his 300C, which are a bit cheaper than the Goodyear. Anyone have experience with them?
We had the Turanza EL42s on one of our Caravans, and while they were okay, that's about the most glowing praise I can give them. They had good tread life (55,000 miles), however, their traction in all driving environments left a lot to be desired and they were a bit too squishy and soft for my tastes. The Assurance TripleTreds that I have since had mounted are far superior in every regard.
I know someone with a 2005 or 2006 300 Touring who just experienced a blowout while on the highway. Apparently this isnt the first time this has happened with this car. Does anyone know anything about this problem? Should Chrysler be giving him a new style of tire? This is a very annoying and dangerous problem to have.

I have never heard of this. Why would Chrysler be responsible for a blow out of a tire? Tires can deflate for any number of reasons. Was it properly inflated before the "blow out"? Had he run over something? Chrysler is not responsible for tires anyway, the tire manufacturer is if a defect can be proven. :shades:
my question was simply if anyone had heard of a similar problem with the stock tires. Sorry, but I dont think 3 blowouts within a year or so is normal. Wasn't Ford held partially responsible for the problems with the Firestone tires on the Explorer.
I figured that someone might know something about this this issue and be able to recommend a better tire in the same size.
I hadn't heard anything about it. Ford was held responsible because it was thought that they recommended too low a tire pressure on those Firestones. The main fault was with the tires.
What constitutes a blowout that would be thought to be due to a tire defect? To me that means a properly inflated and cared for tire lost pressure at speed. Actual "blowouts" are not something associated with tubeless tires. Most tire failures occur because of puncture damage or heat caused by underinflation. :shades:
So? Around here that's not exactly an Earth shaking occurance, however, I've been spending the last week and a half or so in Hong Kong. Since arriving last week I've been keeping a sharp eye out for any American cars, and today, finally, I found one. A big, black and beautiful 300C looking totally at home while tooling up Chater Road. ;-)
Does anyone know when the 08's will be out? I emailed a local dealer and they just ignored me. Nothing on the Chrysler / Dodge web sites about the 08 300/Charger/Magnum yet.

Anyway, here is what it says for my 2006 300C:
US/Canadian Parts:72%
Final Assembly: Brampton Ontario
Country of Origin:
Engine: Mexico
Transmission: United States
So I believe that at least some of those 5 speeds are made in Kokomo.
It's a W5A580 transmission. :shades:
