I have not checked out the lifetime warranty, but overheard a conversion from someone who apparently did: In addition to the routine 3000 mile service check, there is apparently a massive periodic 50K check that must be done at the dealer and should be in the 4-figure range. Having said that, my 300C 30K check (plug change, tranny flush, etc.) came pretty close to that. Yes, you pay for the thrill (and it's worth it!)
Sorry, Shipo, it was only an overheard conversation--so I can't speak of its accuracy--but the message was, whatever this "required" periodic check was, it was definitely NOT no cost.
I'm pasting the following paragraph from the actual text of the terms of the warranty:
"To continue warranty coverage, the owner must have a powertrain inspection performed by an authorized Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge dealer once every 5 years. This inspection will be performed at no charge. The inspection must be made within 60 days of each 5-year anniversary of the warranty start date of the vehicle."
Yeah, and that makes for one heck of a compelling argument to buy a new Chrysler product. Given that we currently have two Chrysler products with a combined quarter of a million miles, we'll be needing a couple of replacements sometime in the next year or two. With the above two facts in mind, and in spite of the fact that I am a bit of a manual transmission bigot, the warranty is enough to put a 300C in my top five possible replacement cars. ;-)
Only in the top five?? Depends on what you're looking for, of course. A cushy rider it's not, but that's about the only complaint I have with mine (2005; 35,000 miles). It's a kick to drive, so responsive both in handling and in power that you'd think it was hardwired to your brain, gets good gas mileage for its power, and at least for me has had zero issues....
Like I said before, I'm a manual transmission bigot, that and I like a slightly smaller RWD car to throw around. As for my desire for a cushy rider, nope, that ain't a problem at all as the two 300Cs that I've taken out for a spin were pretty much at the cushy end of what I consider acceptable. ;-)
So, in my case, the decision is between, giving up my enjoyment of stirring my own gears in exchange for a car that I can drive for a couple hundred thousand miles and only have to pay for scheduled maintenance and peripheral repairs (i.e. not the drive train).
Then again, maybe, just maybe, when the new 6-Speed Challenger hits the market, Chrysler will also offer three pedals under the dash of the 300C as well. I know that there's probably a grand total of about six whacked out individuals in the entire country that would buy such a beast, but rest assured, I am one of them.
I know the older 4speed automatics had some stalling problems (must be the input or output sensors just like the previous 300m and similiar had). Does the 5speed have these same issues? Any other problems causing these cars to be lemons and avoided? I am extremely hesatant to even consider this or the charger because chyrsler has never even bothered to fix this dangerous problem.
I had a '02 Intrepid SXT with that 4 speed, and never had any stalling problem,or never heard of anyone who did.I now have a '06 Charger SXT with the 5 speed, and it is the best tranny I ever had in a Chrysler product. The 5 speed is a Mercedes design as well as the chassis. The 300 and Charger are the best Chrysler ever made.I wouldn't hesitate to tell someone to buy either car.Plus the lifetime warranty is the best so far.On the powertrain.
Anyone have comments on adjusting passenger headrest forward and back? The passenger headrest seems tilted too far forward, is there a way to adjust it back an inch or two?
These are not adjustable in that way, only up and down. Is it bothering you as you drive? I think the reason they are this way is to reduce travel of the head when there is a rearender. Less whiplash that way. I thought they looked too tilted forward when I first saw them, too. But two years in, this has never been an issue as I sat in the car.
I noticed the same thing on my 300 3.5 within the first 1,000 miles the engine would shake like it is staling and the car moves forwards a bit I whent to the dealer and a mechanic told me that it is from the way the vavles where seated at the factor and as long as it doesn't cause a computer code they will not do anything about it.
There is a service bulletin for your problem. The bulletin #06011 the date of bulletin is Feb.23,2006.It states valve seat not properly seated in cylinder head. They admitted to you thats the problem. If you car is under warranty, they should fix this, you are having a problem caused by this valve seat not in the head.I would mention this bulletin, and tell them your symptoms caused by this problem, and your car should be repaired. If they still won't try another dealer,or call Chrysler.
So it's been 3 yrs since this 300 model was introduced. How's it holding up?
My 2005 300C with 36,000 has been virtually trouble free. Oh, the seat back on exit feature stops working every few weeks and has to be reprogrammed (odd that the steering wheel up always works though). But no other issues. At all. I'm wondering in particular if anyone has seen problems with the MDS as the engine gets older?
I had a 300C with numerous problems but your exit feature can be fixed. I complained four times and they finally put a new module in and that cured it. I had the dash replaced twice, the fuel pump once, some sort of esp module once and a thermostat in 54,000 miles. When the lease was up I got a Lexus. Problem is with the Lexus I haven't met any new friends at the service dept like I did with the chrysler. I sort of miss the roar of the hemi, but not the repair problems.
Have over 43,000 on my 05, done all the mtc required, just have cosmetic issues. A couple of weeks ago did a 1200 mile round trip and was getting from 24-26 mpg. For a hemi this is very good...
Oh, the seat back on exit feature stops working every few weeks and has to be reprogrammed (odd that the steering wheel up always works though).
Can you describe this feature a bit more? I bought my mom an 06 300C for Christmas two years ago and she's always singing the praises of her car but she has never mentioned this. I don't think she knows it's there.
Is it something you have to enable in the personal preferences?
It's under "Personal Settings". Scroll through the menu. It's labeled as "Automatically move seat back on exit". I'm guessing you have to "set" a particular steering wheel position and seat situation (forward/aft/height as well as seat back) first.
If the digital display only shows 4 gears, you can be sure that you only have four gears. Using the auto stick to manually shift up from first through fourth, you should see no change in the RPMs after fourth. If you bump the shifter to upshift from fourth and the RPMs drop, then you have found a fifth gear. I don't know of any 3.5V6 versions that have the five speed. It was a standard issue Mercedes for the 5.7V8 HEMI models. This is another one of the many reasons I opted to spend a bit more the 300C.
Both of my 2006 300C's began to drip a bit of transmission fluid on my garage floor at about 15000 miles. I took them in for service and was told it was simply an O-ring on the speedometer cable. This little rubber part cost 80 cents and was replaced while I waited. There is nothing wrong with the car or the transmission.
Checkout the after market kits on the internet. I have seen several of them that simply wrap around the existing one in one piece. They are self-adhesive and some are real wood, and look factory.
I purchased a 2006 300 Limited because all brochures listed it with 5 speed transmission. When I took it back for service I was told that it had a four speed Tranny.I called chrysler and the best they could do was give me and= extended warranty.I think they used false information and wouldn't stand behind the customer against the dealer. The salesman told me they didn't have a 4 speed tranny in the limited model three times. It is the last Chrysler product i will ever buy or recommend to a friend.
Was this a new or used Limited? If new, all you had to do was look at the window sticker. I thought all Touring and Limiteds with the 3.5 came with a 5 speed. I notice now with the 08's, every model except the C and SRT come with the 4 speed. Anyone know what happened? I have an 07 300C, and couldn't be happier with the car!!!
The 5speed was a option on the Limited and Touring.I have a 06 Charger SXT with the 5 speed and I noticed that you can no longer get the 5speed on the Charger now unless its a R/T or better. It looks like Chrysler is only putting in the 5 speeds in the Hemi cars, which I think is a bad Idea.I think they are doing this for cost saving measure.Plus keep the prices the same. The 5 speed has been great so far,and I think I would be upset if I was told I had a 5 speed and it turned out to be a 4.I would be calling someone at Chrysler and ask for a buy back. The 4 speed not bad,but thats not the point.Robert56 -I think you should blame the salesperson more then Chrysler and put pressure on the dealer.Good Luck
I understand your displeasure with not getting exactly what you expected. However, at least (I think) you can check the transmission fluid on the 4 speed, not the 5 speed. I have the 4 speed in a 1999 Intrepid and it (with regular fluid and filter changes) has been flawless through 125,000 miles. My son takes that Dodge to college. I actually like the way the Autostick works better in the Dodge than in my the 5 speed in the 300C. If I liked the rest of the car (and they are great riding cars), I think I'd get used to it. How long a warranty did they give you? I would have asked for free transmission services according to the dealers most severe conditions schedule. Enjoy the 300. :shades:
Do you have the 2.7 V-6? To get the 5 speed tranny, you had to get the more powerful 3.5 V-6 or the HEMI. If that changed for 2008, it may be because of the recent change of ownership Chrysler experienced. The Mercedes 5-speed may be a limited supply item now...
I did research on this in '06.I found That anything built before 9-6-05 with the Touring/limited had the 4 speed, anything after had the 5 speed.Check your built date on the door and see what the built date was.Now they show the '08 with the 4 speed again for Touring/Limited.Chrysler doing alot of changing right now.Double check your pamphlet and make sure it doesnt state the 5 speed as A option,or that their will be a change after a certain date.Check in small print.Good Luck
I had the same issue with my '05. The wire under the seat stretches and pulls on the plug when the seat is moved too far forward. Just play with the plug and it will start working again.
I have just purchased a 2007 300 limited that has the 6cd, am-fm, sat, and ucall radio. i would like to swap it for a MyGig unit. I have been told that I can not because MyGig came out with the 2008 model. From what I have researched the connections look the same. I also found out my car was built in late July of 2007, so the MyGig features migth have been incorporated. How can I find out. :confuse:
I have a MyGIG in my '07 Sebring, so I know it will work on some 2007 Chrysler models. Mine came from the factory already installed.
You might search a little over on the Nitro forums. That's the best place I've found anywhere for MyGIG talk and tech info. Even though you have a 300 the people there seem willing to share information about MyGIG, no matter what you drive.
I started my 07 300 this morning and after allowing the car to warm up I noticed I had a Orange error light on in the dashboard. It was an exclamation with a half circle over it. After about 5 minutes of driving the error turned off.
I just bought my 300, does anyone know what this error means?
New 300 driver. I love the look and feel of the car. The ride on this one seems stiffer than a couple of the ones I test drove. It has the run flat tires and see to ride ruff when cold.
Hmmm, how is it that you have an SRT with only a 5.7 liter engine? FWIW, I'm 99.9% positive that all SRTs have a 6.1 liter (i.e. 426 Cubic Inches) Hemi. Yes, no?
Regarding your complaint about the RFTs, it is completely consistent with that from drivers of every other RFT shod car on the road.
Run flat tires always ride a bit firmer than regular tires. Your premium option tires have a extremely thick 1/2" sidewall that is designed to be capable of suspending the weight of your car without being inflated. The advantages far outweigh the minor change in ride when cold. The run flat design reduces the sidewall flex to a minimum making the tires corner very well without having to go with the 20" rim and low profile tires to get the same effect. I prefer the standard 18" size rims and better tires on my 300C's. They also improve mileage and run cooler. Wet and dry traction is far better than the stock continental tires the car wore out of the factory. I was down to the wear bars after only 20,000 miles, so I upgraded to Michelin run flats about a month ago. These are the exact same tires that come on BMW SUV's. Although they are a little expensive, I should get about three times the wear out of these tires. They are also substantially quieter on all kinds of pavement.
That is true. The yellow exclamation symbol indicates that one or more of your tires has less than 30 psig air pressure. The computer menu will show the individual tires pressures and the low one(s) will be blinking. I usually keep mine inflated (cold) to 34 psig, and they will run about 36 psig when they warm up on the road.

Yes I have a 3.5 six it was the only one advertised in the Chrysler pamphlets.
Thats why I am disappointed in the dealership and Chrysler.

There's a 300C SRT Design for $39,000 MSRP with the 5.7L. There's also a 300C SRT8 for $44,385 MSRP with the 6.1L.
