Couldn't agree more. Why is the price so much higher in the Midwest right now? It can't be gas taxes, at least for OH and IN.
regular $2.63
Premiun $2.83
34 cents below last year this date....
"The high prices are not illegal since the state says businesses can charge whatever the market bears for gasoline, unless the governor has declared an emergency.
And, gas stations are not required to erect gas signs showing how much customers will pay, the report said."
Sounds like quite the Mickey Mouse operation!
That is why I generally fill up 10 miles prior to the airport.
Is that much different than the municipalities who charge 15-25% hotel room taxes (and rental car taxes) targeted at the tourists? (Or who finance their sports arenas in that manner?)
Seems like requiring the stations to post their prices would be an easy way of adequately notifying everyone - this station apparently doesn't tell you the price until you turn on the pump lever.
87 - $2.479
89 - $2.619
91 - $2.699
93 - $2.719
diesel - $2.699
30.38 gallons of diesel for $82 today... should make it to Sep 10th on this tank, though.

210,
It is kind of nice, in a not so nice way, that Chi-town isn't the only area with +$3.00 fuel prices (your listing for Detroit). Was thinking of making a road trip to Indy this weekend but it is doubtful.
Have a good holiday everyone!

because of a patchwork of regulations, the gasoline market if regional, not national.
Then in WV, the prices were back down to what I paid in Mansfield.
In Front Royal VA (Warren County), 87 could be had for $2.51; when I arrived home in central VA, the going price was $2.59, same as when I left last Saturday.
Now by Friday morning of the holiday travel weekend, the prices are down to $2.75x at the lower quartile of station pricing. I would love to see the box plots for pricing here over a year period done week-by-week. The median price variation shown in the daytongasprices.com plots don't show the greater variation in the lower priced stations which many people seek out to fill up at lower prices, part of the time when they are lower.
Currently lower pricing is at $2.75x but many stations are still at $2.99x.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
regular unleaded - $2.65 - $2.79
Time to start my topic on Oil prices.
for example, I live in central va. just 30 miles north, gas runs about a dime more. why? some of the counties up there charge an additional tax to fund mass transit. there is also the much higher cost of living and therefore overhead at the stations that cause them to need a larger profitt. How busy the station is can also have an effect. a station pumping 400,000 gallons a month can charge less than one pumping 100,000 per months.
Better link it. :shades:
dtownfb, "How are gas prices determined?" #1, 31 Aug 2007 11:58 am
Today they're all going to rise to $3.099. The first have started.

steve_, "What will you do when gas price rises above $4 a gallon?" #1072, 30 May 2007 3:50 pm
Well, they are being raised, almost in group to $3.09.
I suspect that's because they came back to work today and decided there's a hurricane, so raise the price.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
Some stations fell to $2.73 here yesterday; haven't been out today to see if they've jumped. $2.89 to $3.09 is a big jump.
Hopefully powercells or some alternative fuel source will be found so we can all tell big oil where to stick their pumps!!
The Sandman
At first I thought it was a misfortune to fill-up yesterday morning for $3.04 but I considered that lucky when I left work yesterday evening. Within a 12-hour period (6am to 6pm) the petrol prices jumped anywhere from 15 to 25 cents!! We're now in the $3.19 to $3.25 range for 87 octane.
What the cuff is going on? :confuse: Is it because Felix jumped to a Cat 3? Is it that the speculators remembered they artificially extended the summer driving season to September 30th? Someone got a hang-nail? Sky is too blue in Dubai?
While everyone else has been going down the last month or so we've been getting nailed
Got a Gasoline Jones

Still around $2.40 in Phoenix
Looks like we (Illinois) made the podium, being second-highest.

May be time to pull the Olds out and fill it up before the prices jump again since it's going to get cloudy in the next couple of days.
The going price seems to be $2.65 -- looks like we're not going to get that nice decline we got last year at this time.
-Rocky
I did notice that diesel jumped 4 cents to $3.09 at a nearby Sinclair.
I noticed at Sheetz that 93 is $2.89 and diesel is $2.99.
Yes. :shades:
I was hoping the prices would stay down a bit till I am all moved. 6 weeks making a trip per day and I still got about a month to go. Where did I get so much JUNK?
I hope some of those trips at $2.79 a gallon are to the dump, 'cause you don't own stuff, it owns you.
