We have a lot of Maveriks out here. :shades:

But when it comes to names, Sheetz has to be the worst. Bed sheets, three sheets in the wind? That's not what I think of when I see those stations....
  • 210delray210delray Member Posts: 4,721
Sheetz has long since invaded our area (central VA). They're based out of Altoona, PA, and I understand there really is a Mr. Sheetz.

WaWa is just moving into the northern VA area (none locally yet). I used to patronize a brand called Swifty in IN in the 70s.

Does anyone remember Red Head? (Pittsburgh area, plus one in Warrenton VA as late as '79 or so).

filled up my '76 LeMans today at the local Shell station. It has a preference for premium. $3.679 per gallon. The BP up the street was pushing it for $3.779! I didn't notice what the prices were for 87 and 89. Didn't even bother to look. Last time I tried to get by with putting 89 in this car, it reminded me, every time I had to accelerate. Damn thing clattered like a Diesel!

I'm just grateful this thing is more of a fair weather toy than daily transportation. Otherwise its ~10 mpg local, 15-16 highway would kill me!

Well Steve_[host], it looks like I was right when I made the statement a couple days ago...

" I'm figuring since it's supposed to break the 60-degree mark this week petrol prices should shoot up again by Friday. "

Prices went up yesterday afternoon from $3.559 on average for 87 octane to $3.699. The one station that sells E85 on my route to work jumped from $3.599 to $3.759. Diesel is up to $4.389 at most places. Citgos are stable, remained at $3.559.

Oh, we broke into the mid-60s ~ low-70s range yesterday ;) (only hit some 60s downstate on Wednesday so it didn't count)

    Sheetz:

    87: $3.39
    93: $3.59
    Diesel: $4.09

We filled both Camrys at Hess for $3.25 (87) a couple of days ago. Yesterday, the price went up in 2 steps to the same $3.39 as just about everyone else.

I can see the new diesel cars coming are going to be big hits!

You better start playing the futures market (it might be the only to afford a full tank in the near future!).

This month I've moved from ~3400 to 401 in the April rankings at the Car Stock Exchange. I don't think I'll get into commodities with real money either, lol.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
I was regularly cracking the top 50 ranking till something got screwy with my account. They are still trying to fix it but I have no idea what is going on with my stocks now.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
It does still have the "Beta" tag over there. :shades:

I dread the day they think of averaging the results of people who work here vs. the "general public." I'm gonna tank the company average, lol.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Oh yeah I understand and they actually just got it fixed and I am still on the overall top 50 list.

I have done beta testing for software before and I understand how frustrating it can be for both the testers and developers.

    Premium. . . .$3.54

And The gas prices @ the Gulf yesterday were 11 cents lower!!!

Passed a Chevron an hour ago hawking regular for $3.45. I was so flabbergasted I didn't catch the premium or diesel price.

The Maverik a mile or so down the road was holding at $3.33, which I think is a cash price. I guess they lost their ladder or number stick, and haven't been able to change their sign or something.

I filled up a delivery a couple of days ago and gas was in the 3.32 range.

I filled up my demo today and gas was 3.64.

Filled up last week in upstate NY with premium @$3.51 this week it's $3.73 for the same grade. WTF?

I recently read that the Clintons made 109 million dollars since leaving the white house. I guess that was the pay-off for giving all our secrets to China.

Now I'm thinking that Bush is trying to better that amount by giving our wallets to the Saudis. Ain't politics great?

...in the week. Did the entire fleet, (except the Brougham).

Sunoco Regular has jumped from $3.27 on Thursday -> $3.33 on Friday ->$3.39 this morning!!!

    Ultra is a psychopathic $3.65!

Somebody said that fuel prices will keep going in this direction as long as we're willing to pay the extortionists.

Yow! Yeah, it's getting painful over here at the shore, too. I didn't look today or yesterday but my cheapest in town Sunday was $3.25. The Cumberland Farms (!) was $3.35.

I was fortunate enough to take advantage of the fact that the stations on the Parkway can only set their prices once a week so on Sunday it was still $3.17. Managed to get it up north where there's actually a Shell station. Most of the Parkway is Lukoil which is fine if you don't mid running your gasoline car on diesel and/or water.

Yes, that may be true. I do have some picks in commodities and have stocks in the oil companies. But still, I'm not the type that rather see others in dire straits just so I can make some dough.

Anyway, my fillup today was at the local Jewel's where the prices are the cheapest at $3.599 for 87, with the higher grades 10 cents higher each. Everyone else, except for Gas City, is running $3.69 for 87 octane on average, with premium running $3.91 average. Looking over my records the closest I came to this price was last May 29th where we topped out at $3.529. The prices dropped after that, teetering in the $3 range then started it's fast climb back well above first fillup in November.

Gas City, always highest on my commute, has the following listed:
87 octane for $3.799 (I think premium petrol is over $4 but couldn't make out the sign)
    E85 for $3.299
    Diesel for $4.499

A co-worker filled-up in Matteson yesterday (south suburb of Chi-town, near the Indy border) for $3.85 for regular!! Most areas in the city are very near or at $4.

I happened to be on the Parkway today - the day before the weekly price change. $3.17! The next best price around here is $3.35.

There was a fair line for it but I had time and a book in the car so what the heck.

    Return to reality tomorrow.

At a local 76 station in Philly today (not sure where), they were doing gas for .76 cents for 76 minutes. People were lined for a few miles (i believe) and the lady at the front of the line had been there since 8am this morning :surprise:

    I wonder how that went....
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
Gas at Shell was $3.65 a week and a half ago. I filled yesterday and it was $3.76. This morning it is $3.85
Food is higher here at the grocery stores. We mostly buy fruits and vegetables at the various farmer' market. Still pretty reasonable and healthier eating.

No lines at even the cheapo Aloha gas stations. Shell has full service for $4.05 per gallon.

The .76 cent fill-up @ the 76 station in Philly sold 1,965 gallons of gas during the 76 minutes yesterday from noon until 1:16pm. It was a promotion that was tied to the 76ers NBA play-offs against the Pistons. I can only imagine getting gas for that much!!!

    Upstate NY.

    87--$3.63
    93--$3.83

The local rip-off Mobil had 93 octane at $3.97. Almost there. On the NYS Thruway I saw diesel at $4.52. And these bums just had the nerve to raise the tolls too! Welcome to NY truckers and tax-slave suckers.

As I filled my tank yesterday morning, I realized that I'm definitely driving less. Pretty much to and from work and an errand or two during the week && weekend. :( I'm doing all my shopping online though :P

    Regular . . . $3.43
    Mid . . . . . . $3.54
    Premium . . $3.65

after katrina, when gas prices spiked, one of the bike drivers told me he got better mileage with his civic than his bike. i did see him driving around the parking lot on one wheel on his bike, so maybe he didn't drive it the same way. :)
our company just marked out a big area of the parking lot for motorcycles.
i tell people we are starting to look like a glorified biker bar. :P

at the Jewel's was for $3.72 for 87, an uptick from $3.68 yesterday, with the higher grades having a 10 cent spread each. It is a little comforting that if you buy more than 8 gallons you get a free coffee, any size.

This puts most everyone at the $3.72 range for 87 octane petrol, except the following:
    Citgo is at $3.70
Gas City is at $3.90, with E85 at $3.40 & diesel at $4.59
    Speedway is at $3.78

I can't give more price detail as these are just the prices on my work commute. Last I heard the city was well past the $4 mark, for the past 3 weeks!!

The one thing I can't seem to come to grips with is the driving style of commuters over this past month. It seems the faster the prices rise the faster people drive. I mean, everyone here knows my routine / driving style so I won't go into that but lately people have been driving faster than bats out of "well"!! And not just the small vehicles, it's mostly been the SUVs / CUVs, full-size trucks and vans. Kats and kittens have been putting the hammer down like everything is a 1/4-mile, stoplight to stoplight drag race! I'm glad I didn't get that moped.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
After a while you'll get use it. I've been pretty much doing that since fuel hit the $2.50 range years ago. Actually started when petrol "shot up" to two bucks!! My driving since that time has been to work - home - back to work, maybe to the local Lowes or Farm & Fleet on the weekend. Grocery is handled on my way home from work by taking an alternate route. At first it's kind of a bummer because you're thinking you're missing something, but soon you realize the only thing you miss are the extra fill-ups.

My only regret is that I didn't take the road trips I had planned while fuel was still in the low to mid-two dollar range. Oh well, at least the mileage on the pickup is kind of low considering the year. It's kind of a mixed feeling looking at my fuel logs the past 3 years to see how petrol prices have increased - if only my salary increased along the same lines.

We're getting some overlap with the What will you do when gas price rises above $4 a gallon? discussion, which is ok, but if you enjoy this one you'll like that one.
