gas was $1.05 for a month here, until it got past 50 degrees, now $1.19-$1.24 reg. On news, they first said" gas going up due to uncertainty in the middle-east"..if it were relaly due to this factor, gas would have stayed near $2.00 per gallon for the past few months, and would never drop . I think another channel was more honest, they said prices were rising and will do so through the rest of the spring and summer(Gouge Us Time!).
Bet $1.50-$1.75 by Memorial Day Weekend, and drop after mid-July some, then go back to realistic prices by 2nd week of Sept, as per usual?
Makes you want to drive a battery car, if they were good. Maybe Honda is onto something here by introducing their new Hybrid Civic now? (su[pposed to get 48/48 with CVT. Not bad for a "5" seater).
Don't see any factor other than the impending spring!
Just a reminder that the Town Hall chat is on for Wednesday evening (5-7pm Pacific/8-10 pm Eastern). Hope you can join in on this week's topic: Stump the Technicians. Will they be able to handle the pressure??? Come to the chat and find out!
Read what I posted a few months back in a similar discussion: #13 of 107 At least here, where it freezes by tboner1965 Jan 24, 2002 (04:27 pm) All vehicles do damage to the roads.
I don't disagree that cars do much less damage than truck.
I do disagree if you are telling me it is not proportional.
Every road surface has cracks, designed in, or flaws. Two tons or 80 tons beating on those cracks will make them bigger. It just takes longer for a two ton vehicle to do it.
FWIW, I just fueled up at $1.059 in Missouri. There is a sticker on the pump that says there is $0.354/gallon tax 18.4 cents is Federal and 17 cents goes to Missouri.
I don't know what my retailer paid for his fuel, but it's probably in the ball park of that number plus the costs to ship it and such.
So he is selling me gasoline for $0.704/gallon (not considering taxes) and it probably costs him about the 0.579.
I think it is completely wrong for the government to get more revenue from a gallon of gasoline than those who make it and/or sell it. At best the gas station owner is making $0.125/gallon.
For the sake of argument, let's say a 44 gallon barrel of oil actually produces 44 gallons of gasoline. (Actually, I think you get about half of that, but I can't find the link right now that demonstrates what really comes from a barrel of crude oil.)
Today, crude futures traded at about $19.25 to 19.75 per 44 gallon barrel. So if all the crude in a barrel becomes gasoline, then there is about $0.44 worth of crude oil in a gallon of fuel.
Seems to me, that the ones raking in the money on fuel is the state and federal governments.

in Southern Ca? They usually seem to beat everyone(except maybe Hawaii and Alaska???) in prices by 10-30 cents per gallon, depending where you live. Southeastern USA is usally least expensive by 10cents less than anyone else's.
Someone had said (at school) that when they were in S.C., they got gas(off at a small town, Hanahan? Near Charleston S.C.) about 2 weeks back, they paid only .94 for 87 octane and we were paying $1.05.
pf_flyer-host - Let me know the next time your prices go up in State College - we seem to lag your increases by about 24 hours here in the Western part of the state - I'll run out and fill up my tank! LOL!
is on the rise and it ain't the temperature! Grey Out Davis said that with the phase out of MTBE and the addition of (the MUCH more expensive [?]) ethanol, we can expect to see $2 regular again
Visit the mother of all price gouging in northwest CA and pay $1.73 for cheap 87, up .26 in the last couple of weeks. It's painful to hear the national averages.
Don't know what part of Pittsburgh you're in but here in the south, still holding at $1.199 for 87. Although did see a Sunoco going up to $1.259 on the way to work this morning.
We were still at 1.259 in PGH this morning, but I'll bet they go to 1.279 pretty soon, if the past few week's are any indication. Your price hikes in State College always are a day or so ahead of ours. If it's still 1.259 this afternoon, I'll fill up!

We're still at $1.259 for 87 in the North Hills, too. Filled up last night expecting it to be at 1.279 or 1.299 today based on our advance warning system from State College!
Maybe we should add a USER GAS PRICE REPORTS section to the Town Hall chats!

I leave the Land of the Golden Sun (San Diego)with the price of 87 at ~$1.599. Arrive in what truly is Paradise (Hawai'i) a scant 5.5 hours later only to find 87 is $1.559 there. I return a week later (the price in Honolulu is still $1.559) only to find we're now at $1.639! Yikes!!
Ann Arbor, Michigan: Now at $1.45 per gallon for 87-octane. Acura Integra is very fuel efficient, put in a few bucks to top it off. Last weekend it was $1.29 or so.
I heard on the news that one of the reasons gas prices are going up is the switch to a different type of gas for the summer months. ... I thought that in the winter ethanol is added to gas to create an "oxygenated" blend that reduces emissions, and that is how they justify the price increase in the fall. Now to me it seems like common sense that if you stop adding ethanol to the gas the price should drop.
because summer is still 3 months away. I truly think that the prospect of increased middle east tension along with greed on the part of some in this world are the main reasons. The price hikes have been to rapid and to much over the past 3 weeks, seems a little fishy to me!
From Chevron, pretty much echos what many have said about the price of fuel, again, look at the percentage of the price that is tax and how that has increased.
I don't feel I'm getting better roads for the increased taxes.
